00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:03Are you guys ready for your next challenge?
00:05Your next challenge is to make a figure skating costume for me.
00:11It's just a fantastic time for all of us.
00:16Think about a way of responding to Michael and Nina that's less you.
00:21He's already been forewarned several times by Tim Gunn.
00:24If you it up, you're gonna have to thread it yourself.
00:27It broke.
00:28Off with her head.
00:30Now you're gonna see who's really creative.
00:39I think that it was really creative, the swirls that you used around the design.
00:43Yeah, I did take some risks.
00:45You're not helmet-laying.
00:46No, I mean, I've seen it 52 times.
00:49God, doesn't he want to listen?
00:51He never listens.
00:53What's worse, not going far enough or going too far?
00:57I'd like to congratulate you, Zulema.
01:00Really?
01:01Stunning.
01:02Santino, you're in.
01:04That means I'm with you out.
01:06Was it the shirt?
01:07At stake for the winner of Project Runway is a fashion spread in Elle magazine, a mentorship
01:14with the Banana Republic design team, a 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster, and $100,000 courtesy of
01:20Saturn to start your own life.
01:22This is Project Runway.
01:23Let's get it on.
01:24The search for the next big fashion designer.
01:25This is a dream come true.
01:26I'm gonna do whatever it takes to win.
01:2716 designers.
01:28Everyone here is crazy.
01:29Drama has to happen.
01:30Yes, I'm a competitive person.
01:31Three finalists will make it to Olympus Fashion Week.
01:32You will see me at Fashion Week.
01:33But only one can be the winner.
01:34Heck yeah, I'm gonna win this.
01:35For these 16 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:51I don't know.
01:52I did not sleep well last night.
01:55I'm exhausted.
01:56It was good to win, but I don't want to get sidetracked.
01:59It's really down to the wire now.
02:03Now anyone could be eliminated at this point in this past challenge what I had made for Sasha Cohen was pretty ridiculous and horrible
02:13With this next challenge. I'm not taking any chances. I'm not gonna do something over the top. I'm gonna do my best and see where it gets me
02:21Hello
02:31Are you ready for your next challenge? Yes
02:34Okay, this challenge is about what drives your creativity as a fashion designer
02:42Inspiration I'm going to send you off to meet with our very own Michael Kors
02:47He's going to talk to you about what inspires him and fill you in on the rest of the details
02:53But first let's bring out the winning and losing designers models
03:03Models this also is a competition for you as well the model paired with a winner of Project Runway will get a fashion spread in our magazine
03:12so Lima
03:13You were the winner of the last challenge
03:15And your model was Rachel if you decide to stay with Rachel then Shannon will be out
03:22If you decide to change models, I will bring out all the models for you to make the switch
03:27What do you want to do? I today am going to choose to change models, so I would like to have the models come out
03:38Okay, let's bring them out
03:45All right, so Lima, who do you want to switch Rachel with I would like to have a walk-off between the following three models?
03:56Danielle
03:57Tara and Shannon
04:00It's a
04:02So we're just going to step back and have a little walking session going on right here. Why don't we I was sort of?
04:08Thinking this would be something that Zulima would do
04:11Once we realized it was going to happen you could just you could feel the tension between all of us
04:16Zulima's walk-off man that was a twist, you know up until this point everyone who won still just was loyal to their own model
04:32I
04:38Haven't had enough time to study the girls themselves, so I said you know what they all have the same outfit on you get to see how they move
04:45Why not a walk-off?
04:49All right, Zulima you've seen them walk which one do you want all of us?
04:53We're just on edge just hoping that she didn't take our girl. I choose Tara
05:03Literally my throat just dropped to my stomach and I just wanted to like throw up
05:10I personally think that Zulima did know that she was going to pick Tara for the most part the walk-off was just Zulima being dramatic
05:17All right, Zulima
05:19You picked Tara
05:22That means Rachel
05:24Will be now a next model
05:26All the models you can leave the runway. Thank you
05:36Rachel was very very very angry and the whole time she kept looking at me like I can't believe this bitch did this and I was like
05:42Well, I can't believe she did it either. I changed models because my model cannot walk
05:47I can't be concerned with Nick do a good job when next week you take her back
05:51I'm sorry Shannon you're out. I'll feed again
05:54Thanks. All right, you have your models. Are you ready to get inspired?
05:59Micah course is waiting for you and I see you back here on the runway
06:03Bye
06:05Heidi hinted for our next challenge that it would have to do with inspiration something that obviously every designer needs
06:21Hey guys
06:22Hi
06:23Oh my god
06:23Good morning
06:24Good morning
06:24Good morning
06:25Good morning
06:25So why don't you come on back?
06:27We're going to talk about the challenge coming up
06:28I wanted to talk to you guys about inspiration and you know every designer works differently
06:35You know some people are more abstract in their inspiration. Some people are more specific
06:39This is a fabulous picture of a woman named doris duke
06:42And she was the tobacco heiress and she kind of broke the rule
06:47She was like an east coast girl who moved to hawaii and had an affair with a surfer in the 40s
06:52people were shocked and we started thinking about that whole era of
06:56Hawaii Anna in the 40s and then what happens for me?
07:00I start with the mood and I started thinking okay doris duke if doris duke was around today
07:05What would she pack? Where is she going? We started fooling around with color?
07:11I mean, so there's a color board for a whole collection
07:15It's all about how to take that first picture
07:19That that idea of doris duke and how do you turn it into a whole collection?
07:23So inspiration is our thought today
07:27I've got a little doo doo doo
07:30I've got gifts for you guys
07:33We all love a gift
07:34Nice gifts
07:35Terry cloth cashmere think again
07:38Nice
07:39Come on
07:39Yes
07:40A little olympus digital for everyone here
07:43Okay cara that's yours
07:45Thank you
07:46Andre that is yours
07:47There you go
07:49There are strings attached
07:51You have an hour
07:53You get to walk anywhere in New York
07:56You're going to take pictures
07:58And then you are going to go through the pictures
08:00And you're going to pick one
08:03One shot
08:04It could be anything
08:06Anything that provokes you
08:07And then you make a fabulous garment
08:09And then you get to show us that garment
08:12And we get to see your train of thought
08:17We're excited to see it
08:19And we'll see you back on the runway
08:20Great
08:22All right
08:22Wow
08:25Let's go over here
08:27Just keep your eyes out
08:38It's here
08:41We had one hour to take photos of things
08:45Objects people whatever that inspires us
08:48I'm just happy I'm not with Santino
08:50Because I know he's going crazy
08:52It's a great color
08:52It's a cool way to begin a design challenge
08:58Thank you man
08:59I walked to like 7th and 23rd street
09:03I took about 80 pictures
09:05And saw some really amazing things
09:13Oh this is great
09:14Bubbles
09:15I shot mainly a lot of buildings
09:17I didn't want to mess with people
09:18I like buildings
09:19I like lines and stuff
09:20So it's actually perfect for me to shoot that
09:22I based my design off of a no trespassing
09:28Danger no trespassing sign that I saw on a building
09:32I kind of thought of the restrictions
09:35Of things in this crazy, crazy place
09:38Can you get your head out of my picture please?
09:44Do you mind if I take a photo of you?
09:46This African woman came down the street
09:48And she had this beautiful red dress on
09:52That's basically what inspired me
09:53I'm not shooting anybody
09:55I know barely
09:57My inspiration might be
10:00You know a little bit at a loss
10:01I get inspired by my models
10:03I'm sad that Tara's not my model
10:06Do I understand or respect Zulema's decision for causing tension?
10:11That's the only thing
10:12Was it a wise decision?
10:13Probably not
10:14If you're not kind
10:15You're not going to get kindness back
10:17Is somebody flipping you off?
10:21Yeah
10:21So nice
10:21How'd you get that?
10:23Print
10:24Okay
10:25We got back to the work room and we printed photographs
10:30We were to pick from all those photos one photo and design an outfit inspired by that photograph
10:37After editing through everything that i had photographed
10:41I decided on a picture of parts of overlapping graffiti
10:47I think it would be really a great achievement to take a wall that had spray paint layers
10:54And do something that looked so high art and couture
10:58Oh that's pretty
10:59That's from Michael Kors
11:00I had to give it 20 feet to find my inspiration
11:04The picture that I ended up choosing was actually the first picture that I took
11:09And it was these gorgeous orchids in the lobby at Michael Kors's studio
11:13Because I thought they were beautiful and that's what inspired me the most
11:16It's pretty
11:19The final photo that I chose was a photograph of some dirty water in a gutter
11:23Something that you wouldn't normally notice as beautiful but the way the sun was shining
11:27And the way the light was reflected it sort of glistens and there's these rocks that sign
11:32Sort of um sparkle like jewels
11:35I always like to take something that's humble or lowly or ugly and apply like the big charm gun
11:41To it and make it pretty
11:45Oh please
11:46My mood made it a little difficult to sort of concentrate on that I wanted to find something that inspired me
11:53To be honest i'm usually more inspired by my models
11:57Nick i'm taking the picture okay
11:58Yeah
11:59That's great
12:00That's nice
12:06Hi everybody
12:06What's up
12:07Can i ask you to gather around
12:09I care tremendously about each and every one of you and that's why it's tough love time
12:20My perception is that the work for the last couple of challenges is for the most part quite lackluster
12:27You really need to wake up
12:34Coming up on project runway
12:36You are in serious jeopardy
12:38I think he's totally right
12:39Be more ambitious
12:41I think it was more of a slap
12:43I don't want to be here
12:44There's a part of me that wants to just be done with it
12:46It's tough love time
12:53You really need to wake up
12:56Tim wanted to kind of give us a reality check
12:58He had things to say about all of us designers and not all good
13:03Daniel you always excite me in the early phases of your designing
13:08But then it seems that you lose momentum and you fall short of the potential that your work could really achieve
13:15Chloe i'm afraid that if you don't push the envelope and step out of your comfort zone
13:20That we're going to hear that you're a one note
13:23Okay
13:24Zulema please take risks
13:27I don't know if mine is more about risks if it's more about time management and not be able to finish
13:32The judges don't care they accept the time constraints
13:35What tim told me sort of threw me i have to push it more whatever i did before it has to be two times better
13:41Cara you're the only one of the designers remaining who hasn't won a challenge
13:47You really need to step away from work that looks like we could buy it on madison avenue
13:53santino
13:54You are in serious jeopardy and i reserve that comment only for you
13:59Yeah
14:00He was just like you're gonna be out yeah i take what he said very seriously i think he's totally right
14:06Andre and nick
14:07I have the same three words for both of you
14:13Be more ambitious
14:16What's he talking about i have been ambitious i think was more of a slap
14:19So this new challenge is the perfect opportunity for you to step out of the metaphorical box
14:26And really show what you can achieve as designers
14:29Okay
14:29That was probably the last straw for me i was going through a whole gamut of emotions at the time and
14:35To be honest i'm just over it and over the whole show there's a part of me that wants to just
14:42Be done with it
14:45You have until midnight tonight so let's get our photograph
14:50Our inspiration source and let's go shopping
14:53Tim gave all of us reality check i think i'm definitely capable of so much more
15:02We received a hundred dollars and 30 minutes at mood for this challenge what's your inspiration inspiration is
15:09Japanese sleekness oh all right that's exciting i wanted to play on texture so i wanted for the bottom to do like a stretch tweed and
15:18Then the top i opted for this beautiful silk organza it's kind of in a light champagne color i need like an ombre
15:25Chiffon like gray i got the gist of what tim said to me i'm really trying to do something
15:31Tasteful and beautiful what other fabrications do you have that are ombre and oh and behold i find an
15:38Identical match to the picture and it's just a stroke of good luck inspiration yeah
15:43Where's your head right now in terms of how you're thinking i'm thinking one dress because a dress can
15:51Be finished quickly i have time management issues i just need to figure this out very quickly i don't work with darks
15:58So i think this is something that would be definitely different for me all right okay i'll leave you alone tim can i ask for you
16:04Sure help opinion i'm still thinking what would look best on the blonde model because i've been switched
16:10What happened zulima took my model
16:15There is a switch yeah i gotta tell you when i think about zulima's model yeah oh geez
16:22She's such a problem she's like a elongated marshmallow i know she's this gumby legs and she's such a stiff
16:31Oh god that's a whole new thing oh you have even more than a challenge yeah exactly
16:40So
16:47So
16:49So
16:51So
17:01I do have a slightly closer relationship with Nick.
17:13I think that the walk-off really kind of wore him down quite a bit.
17:18All of us have our breaking points.
17:20What are you thinking about?
17:21I'm not.
17:22I'm done.
17:24It's up.
17:25I don't care.
17:26Like I said, I'm done.
17:28You aren't.
17:29You're too talented.
17:29You want to watch me?
17:31I'm done.
17:32Shut up.
17:33Go home because you deserve to go home, not because of some technical detail, baby.
17:36But it's not just that.
17:38You know that.
17:39I know.
17:40I don't want to be here.
17:42If you really don't, that's your choice, but before you totally give it in, just make sure
17:49you're thinking bigger picture.
17:54I love you.
17:55Me too.
17:56Daniel, he's 24, but he sort of gave me a speech, and he's like, you need to stop sulking
18:01and acting like you want to leave the show, and he snapped me back.
18:04He read me.
18:04I was like, yeah, you're right.
18:06I've come this far.
18:07I came to New York to be in the top three, if not win.
18:10So I'm going for it each time, and I'm going for it today.
18:14You know?
18:14Here we go.
18:15Let's see what Nick can do.
18:36Falapo?
18:36This is my thing.
18:38This might be this thing.
18:42That's good.
18:43I don't understand these people.
18:45I mean, it's almost like we're in kindergarten.
18:47You're making a movie?
18:47Yeah.
18:47Meryl Streep got cast as Anna Wintour.
18:49Wow.
18:50Fabulous.
18:51It's not that the others aren't being cordial to me, but you know how people look at you
18:55out of the cut of their eye?
18:56It's just like, they're talking to you, but they're always looking at you like, I'm watching
19:01you.
19:01I'm trying to see what's going on with you because you're shysty, and I'm not shysty.
19:07Excuse me.
19:08If I win tomorrow, I'll be switching models tomorrow, too.
19:15And if I win the competition after that, I'm going to switch again, and every time I win,
19:20I'm going to switch models.
19:21It's nothing personal.
19:22It's just business.
19:23Coming up on Project Runway.
19:28All of this dress, it is starting to wear people's way of f***.
19:32Come on, Sarah.
19:33I mean, yeah, for a minute I wanted to cut her, but you want to f*** me?
19:36Well, you can't.
19:44Daniel, I think what you've created is delicious.
19:47Designers, rock the Casbah.
19:49Whenever I'm in a bad mood, and I just need to laugh, I always ask Santino to do an impression
19:56of Tim.
19:57Designers, up until now, you've all f***ing sucked.
20:01However, go out there and kick butt.
20:09Nick.
20:10Yes.
20:10That was close.
20:13So what are you doing?
20:13Well, I remember we talked about this goddess in the fountain, and this is how I would see
20:19her dress, so I decided to do a bias-cut skirt.
20:23All right, just make sure that she walks this.
20:25Yes, I know, because it's really...
20:27Incredibly well.
20:27Exactly, because that's very important.
20:29Oh, yeah.
20:29She's got to own it.
20:30She walks like a stiff.
20:31Yeah, no, she's got to own it.
20:32It's not going to work.
20:32Exactly.
20:33She has to own this.
20:34Yeah.
20:35Santino.
20:36Oh, wow.
20:37All right.
20:38You're in a new zone.
20:40Yeah.
20:40You're there.
20:42You'll show them.
20:42How's Andre?
20:43It's supposed to feel like gutter water.
20:47Though you know that.
20:49Looking at this, I don't know that.
20:51I don't know that.
20:52Be more ambitious.
20:53Now I see what you mean about the diagonal.
20:56That idea that she's no trespassing, kind of...
20:59I get it.
21:00You know what I'm saying?
21:01I just don't think you want to be literal-minded.
21:04This one was difficult because I didn't know where to start from.
21:07I couldn't get my head around it.
21:09Well, you know, in fashion, there's this very fine line between being funny and being witty.
21:15And very few people can achieve the wit as opposed to what's being a joke.
21:20No, I don't want it to be a joke.
21:21No, you don't.
21:21I don't want to make a joke.
21:22I think it's...
21:22I mean, right now, I really feel you've got the potential for doing this here.
21:26So, Zelima, where are you with your garment?
21:29I don't know.
21:29I just don't know.
21:30Right now, I just don't have anything.
21:32I have the top.
21:32I don't have a bottom.
21:34Time management has always been an issue with me because things need to be made properly.
21:37I don't know how to make things improperly.
21:39I kept thinking about what you said about, like, taking more risks.
21:42I think I take a lot of risks.
21:44But then I'm now thinking to myself, what more can I do?
21:47Had Tim not say take more risks, I would have just made something.
21:50I have to say I kept harping and obsessing over what Tim said.
21:54All right, I'm leaving you alone.
21:55Daniel, that's stunning.
21:57And it still allows for movement.
22:00That is stunning.
22:01It's the Santino effect.
22:02I just can't stop touching it.
22:04No.
22:05Don't get seduced by the Santino effect or we'll all crash and burn.
22:10Oh, sorry.
22:12Sorry, Santino.
22:13I meant that only in the nicest way.
22:15Now I see how you talk about me when you think I'm not around.
22:18No.
22:19I tease about you.
22:20Okay, everyone, you have two and a half hours.
22:24Get rid of any self-doubts.
22:26Just do it.
22:27And blow those judges away.
22:45Time is a major factor for this challenge.
22:48We have less time than we've had on almost every other challenge.
22:53This is a fashion design marathon.
22:56It's the Ironman triathlon of fashion.
23:00I have nothing.
23:02Time is almost up.
23:04I'll figure something out.
23:05I always do.
23:07Whether I like it is the big question.
23:09Are you okay, Nick?
23:18Come on, let's hear it.
23:19I mean, yeah, for a minute I wanted to cut her, but I've already...
23:22I mean, you know, it's a competition.
23:24Fine.
23:24If I win next time, I may take Tara back.
23:29You want to me?
23:30Well, you can't.
23:40Salima.
23:41Honey, we've got 15 minutes.
23:45It's okay.
23:45I hate this morning.
23:47For me, the stakes are very high.
23:49It would mean everything.
23:51If I won, I could start my line.
23:53That's some seed money.
23:55I mean, anyone who says they're not here to win should go home now because they've already
24:00lost.
24:01Ready, guys?
24:02Yeah, we've been ready.
24:04Oh, such a little bitch.
24:07Hi, everybody.
24:08Hi, Tim.
24:10The time has come.
24:11Your models are here, so you have an hour to bring them to the Trace and May Hair Salon
24:16and to the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room to prep them for the runway show.
24:20Okay?
24:21So I'm sending them in.
24:23Okay.
24:23All right?
24:23Good luck, everybody.
24:26Hey, how are you doing?
24:28Okay, quick try on it.
24:29I still need to do some sewing.
24:30But the outfits Zulema made for me to wear, I did not like at all.
24:37What was the theme?
24:39Inspiration.
24:40It was not finished when I got there.
24:43She had to basically sew it on me and kept poking me with needles.
24:47It was horrible.
24:49Perfect.
24:50I'm going to model extra hard not to prove Zulema wrong, just to be able to stay with
24:55Nick because Nick is my favorite.
24:57Okay.
24:58And all of a sudden I'm like, okay, I hope she can walk.
25:00I hope she can walk.
25:01Please, please, please.
25:02God, I hope she can walk.
25:04Mmm.
25:05The eggs are like slinky.
25:07Oh, look at you.
25:08I was like, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
25:11Yes.
25:11So now she's my new muse and my new model.
25:13I'm so jealous.
25:19Mega 945.
25:20Okay.
25:21So we just want to pull it straight back.
25:22And I want her two periods of flow.
25:26Yeah, I want it to look like Cole.
25:28Danger, no testicles.
25:29Andre, your garment doesn't have a back on it.
25:48Okay, everybody.
25:49This is it.
25:51F***ing s***.
25:52We're leaving.
25:53If you stay here, you self-eliminate.
25:56Come, come.
25:57Coming up on Project Runway.
25:59To me, it looks like a debutante dress gone wrong.
26:03That's a big talk you just had.
26:05Da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
26:06The talk doesn't match the dress.
26:13Hi.
26:14Hi.
26:14Welcome to the runway.
26:18As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you might be out.
26:25There's seven of you now, and after tonight, there will be six.
26:32This challenge was about inspiration.
26:36We gave you one hour to run around Manhattan, taking pictures of things that inspire you.
26:41We're going to judge you on how well you translated this inspiration into a final look.
26:47We gave you $100 in one day to put it together.
26:51Let's meet the judges.
26:54The fabulous Michael Khoris, king of jet-set American style,
27:00Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine,
27:03and the winner of our last Project Runway season, Jay McCarroll.
27:07Hello.
27:08Hey, Jay.
27:09We will be scoring your designs as they come down the runway.
27:13One of you will be named the winner,
27:15and one of you will be out.
27:21Let's start the show.
27:28Tim said to me that I needed to be ambitious.
27:32Changing out our water into an evening gown is definitely ambitious,
27:36and it came out as something really beautiful and glamorous that I was very proud of.
27:49For me, the inspiration was danger, no trespassing.
27:52I thought that I really brought the message across,
27:54so I definitely think the inspiration translated into the garment.
27:58The piece that I made for the inspiration challenge, I was pretty happy with.
28:15I felt like I had to slap it together at the last minute,
28:18but overall, I thought it was a real stroke of good luck to find the fabric that I did.
28:24My inspiration concept was taken from an orchid,
28:40and just kind of the juxtaposition between having this very delicate,
28:44very kind of feminine flower,
28:46and I'm hoping the judges will really see the entire inspiration.
28:57When Grace walked down the runway, I felt the garment looked good.
29:00It looked finished.
29:01You can see how I was inspired by my inspiration picture.
29:05I was pretty happy with the whole thing.
29:07She came out, and she glided down the runway.
29:21Honey, she just looked divine.
29:23Just really made me smile.
29:37This is my first runway with Tara.
29:40She's a fantastic model.
29:42She has a really good body, and I like the way she walks,
29:44and I thought that her look and her body would complement my clothing.
29:48Thank you so much for watching.
30:08Bye.
30:10Designers, we've tallied your scores.
30:22I'm going to keep all of you on the runway.
30:25I'll bring out your models.
30:27We will ask you some questions.
30:29One of you will be named the winner.
30:31And one of you will be out.
30:34Let's bring out the models.
30:40All right, the first designer I'm going to grill is Daniel.
30:53Tell us a little bit about your photo, your inspiration.
30:56The first photo I actually took was two orchids in this nice, clear, solid vase.
31:01I wanted a pedestal almost for the flower and then brought in detailing and whatnot for the blossom.
31:06I really like what you did, Dan, and I think you executed it very, very beautifully.
31:13You did a great job.
31:15I like that you picked something that is genuinely beautiful to be inspired by, rather than just something random.
31:23I agree.
31:24I can totally see it, you know, you look at the picture and it translates.
31:28The next designer is Chloe.
31:30I want to start with Jay.
31:31Um, I feel like the picture was so overwhelmingly geometric and had such an interesting perspective.
31:37So, I just wanted it to be more geometric.
31:40I'm with you, but for the time that I got, it was like the best that I could come up with.
31:45Oh, listen, honey, I've been there.
31:47So, I'm kind of working off of the picture of the Chrysler building.
31:50It reminds me of the Chrysler building.
31:51I'm surprised.
31:52Was this Chrysler?
31:53I've been there.
31:54I mean, don't tell me that.
31:55I like the juxtaposition of the hard and the soft.
31:59I think you also picked a very hard inspiration, and maybe it doesn't really come through, but I like this dress.
32:07Kara.
32:08Um, when I was walking around the city, and I just really, um, saw all these post-no bills and no trespassing,
32:16and I feel like the city, as much as it's so inviting, and so, um, it can also be so offensive and stay away and get away,
32:25and it stops you in your tracks, or it moves you forward in your tracks.
32:29I mean, if you stop and look, we're surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of signs.
32:34That's a big talk you just had.
32:36Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
32:38The talk doesn't match the dress.
32:40It's very simple and simple.
32:42I actually disagree with you.
32:43I think simplicity has its voice, and I must be honest with you that I think this speaks volumes.
32:49I mean, Donna Karan has based an empire on New York City iconography.
32:56I-I-I think you did something very literal.
33:00Andre, tell us a little bit about your picture, your inspiration.
33:04My picture is literally a picture of dirty gutter water in New York City.
33:09I wanted to make something very beautiful out of this ugly thing.
33:13Um, for me, this is the most inspired one, I think, from the picture.
33:16I definitely saw it.
33:18I got it.
33:18And I-I like the idea of you, um, taking ugly things and trying to make them pretty.
33:23I think it's always intriguing to take something that other people don't notice,
33:28and you turned it into something glamorous.
33:30All in all, it's, uh, it's pretty great looking.
33:33And it looks very expensive.
33:35It does not look like a hundred dollars, so...
33:37Good point.
33:39Nick, why don't you tell me a little bit about what inspired you, what your photo is?
33:43I believe it was a fabric store, and it was just in the window, and it just struck me,
33:48and I took a photo of it.
33:50So I thought of water, I thought of the ocean, and, um, I sort of also thought of, uh, like,
33:55Paris Hilton in Greece, strolling with her Greek boyfriend down the beaches of Mykonos.
34:02So that's what inspired me.
34:04Once again, big story.
34:06It's-it's just these stories, you know?
34:08It's like, I don't-I kind of want to look at it, and I feel like that's-
34:11I remember you doing a lot of those stories yourself, too, though.
34:14No, that was Austin.
34:15The wind came and swept it away, and I was never talking about Mykonos.
34:20I don't know where you kids are from.
34:22Honestly, I think the top is great looking.
34:25What it has to do with Mykonos, I don't know.
34:30Zalima, tell us about your inspirational picture.
34:33I saw this African woman in traditional garb.
34:37I said, let me use Western cut and use certain elements, color and various other things.
34:44Can I say, Zalima, this is the third time that I've seen something of yours that has an execution problem?
34:51And I think that it's so important in a designer to execute it well and to present it well.
34:58I-100%-
34:59Because everybody here, your counterparts, some of them have exceptional presentation.
35:05I-I totally agree.
35:06To me, it looks like a debutante dress gone wrong.
35:10It's kind of like the trashy debutante in town in the red dress,
35:13and her mother's a bad home sewer.
35:15I mean, that, it looks so home sewn.
35:19Tim talked to me about taking risks and doing something different.
35:23This is extremely different for me.
35:25When Tim says something, you have to listen, I have to say that-
35:27Tim did not make this dress.
35:28No, no, no.
35:29I'm not saying Tim made this dress.
35:30No, no, no.
35:30That's not what he was talking about.
35:32He was, no, no, no, no, no.
35:33Let me go back.
35:34You executed it, and it's poorly executed.
35:37Mm-hmm.
35:38Santino, tell us a little bit about your picture, your inspiration.
35:42The picture that I chose to interpret was a wall that had multi-layers of graffiti writing on it.
35:50I love the juxtaposition of taking something that's underground and street
35:54and making something that's high art and expensive.
35:58Um, I wrote four words in my card.
36:00Did you watch last season?
36:02Yeah.
36:02Okay.
36:03Austin's Scarlet Grammy dress.
36:06That's all I could see.
36:07Yes!
36:08Oh, my God, that's the same exact fabric you used.
36:10Is it really?
36:10It's exactly that.
36:11I think it is exactly that.
36:12Does anyone wear this?
36:12That outfit dress, of course.
36:13Yes.
36:14Oh, my God.
36:14Same color.
36:15Same color.
36:16Same everything.
36:17Same everything.
36:17Oh, my God.
36:18Same everything.
36:18But for me, I mean, the skirt is, like, massive, oh, you know?
36:22She looks big, and the waist is too high.
36:24I feel like, you know, a big butt is hiding underneath that dress kind of thing.
36:28Well, I know a few women who could use that dress.
36:30I did want to do something different.
36:32That's commendable.
36:33And I'm listening.
36:34I swear I'm listening.
36:35But it's in the finishing.
36:37I don't know.
36:37Yeah, it's totally in the finishing.
36:39You push yourself past your usual thing, which, hey, hats off to that.
36:43Thank you, Michael.
36:46Okay, we're going to have a little chat.
36:49And I'm going to call you back.
36:50You can leave the runway.
36:59I like Chloe's dress.
37:02I thought Chloe's dress was pretty.
37:04I could see her vision from her picture.
37:07It was there, but it wasn't fully finished, fully flushed out.
37:10But it was pretty.
37:11Honestly, I looked at Kara's.
37:17I mean, a 45-minute explanation for a dress that could take 10 minutes to sew.
37:21Who cares?
37:22It's a tube dress with a piece of tape wrapped around it.
37:27Nick's was not memorable to me.
37:29My God, if I see another fishtail gown, I can just, I can't.
37:33How did Paris Hilton's boyfriend get involved in this whole story?
37:35I don't know.
37:36You know, they just could have kept going.
37:38Endless, endless.
37:41I thought Zulima was just a nightmare.
37:44No inspiration taken from the picture, really.
37:46No energy.
37:47Then executed poorly.
37:48I just think that poor presentation or execution is just not acceptable.
37:55No.
37:55No.
37:56I mean, it needs to be presented well.
37:59It needs to look finished.
38:00It's part of being a designer and, you know, part of being professional.
38:07I just loved Andre's.
38:09I thought that was the most, I don't know, maybe it's his demeanor or something.
38:12I think with Andre's dress, it translates exactly from the picture.
38:16You knew what the inspiration was.
38:18Yes.
38:19And the most important thing, it looked expensive.
38:21Yeah.
38:22Finished and sophisticated and well-made.
38:27I prefer Dan.
38:29I thought it was very sophisticated and I thought it was very well executed.
38:35Daniels was unexpected.
38:36Yeah.
38:36You know, he changed your eye.
38:38He changed the silhouette.
38:39I'm a full Dan fan.
38:40I thought it was chic, great looking.
38:45Santino.
38:46I think his clothes look unfinished.
38:49I mean, granted, that's part of what his whole shtick is.
38:54Right.
38:54But, I mean, with this, with this picture, he could have completely Santino'd that outfit to death.
39:00Totally.
39:01And then it would have looked like a graffiti thing.
39:03You know, and.
39:03And I'm sorry, a lot of people get inspired by graffiti.
39:06The orchid and the, the water on the street, those are different things to look at.
39:12Yeah.
39:13And a designer is all about looking at different things.
39:18Okay, let's call them back out.
39:19There are seven of you on the runway.
39:32One of you will be named the winner.
39:35And one of you will be named the winner.
39:37And one of you will be out.
39:47There are seven of you on the runway.
39:48One of you will be named the runway.
39:50One of you will be named the winner.
39:51And one of you will be out.
39:55Chloe, you're in.
39:58You can leave the runway.
39:59Nick.
40:14You're in.
40:17You can leave the runway.
40:18And now for the winner of this challenge.
40:34Congratulations.
40:37Daniel.
40:39You're the winner of this challenge.
40:40Congratulations.
40:42Chic, sophisticated.
40:43We thought it was great.
40:44Awesome.
40:44Thank you so much.
40:45I feel ecstatic about winning again.
40:50I think it was Andre.
40:51I'm honestly just focusing on each challenge as they come.
40:54And hopefully that's enough to take me to the next round.
40:57I'm happy.
40:58I'm happy.
40:58Okay.
41:01Andre.
41:04You're in.
41:06You can leave the runway.
41:15You're in.
41:33You can leave the runway.
41:35Zolima, you let us down on this one.
41:51Your dress was uninspired, unfinished, and no excuse can cover that up.
41:57Kara, we felt that your dress was unoriginal, and we all felt that we don't need to hear that
42:08much explanation.
42:11Your dress should speak more than you do.
42:15Kara.
42:16You're in.
42:23You can leave the runway.
42:34Are you safe?
42:35Are you safe?
42:35Yes.
42:36I told you.
42:37Oh, my God.
42:39Oh.
42:41That means, Zolima, you're out.
42:42Okay.
42:44Okay.
42:50Bye.
42:57Are you okay?
42:58Yeah, I'm fine.
42:59I'm totally fine.
43:01I didn't think they would.
43:02I never thought they would.
43:05What can you do?
43:06It's a competition.
43:07It's a game.
43:08It's a game.
43:09I wouldn't say I made, like, we're going to be best friends and talk on the phone with
43:13one another forever, but we've definitely, you know, definitely become friends.
43:20Quiet room.
43:21It's getting more intense, isn't it?
43:24Zolima, you need to go up to the workroom and clean up your space, okay?
43:28No problem.
43:30I think I'm definitely talented enough to be in the final three, but the thing is, this
43:35is a competition is a competition, and you can't make mistakes.
43:37Any mistake can cost you.
43:47Next, on Project Runway.
43:49Are you ready for your next challenge?
43:50Yes.
43:51We're taking a field trip.
43:52Oh, what?
43:54When Tim was taking us down the street, I was thinking, what has he got planned?
43:59This is our destination.
44:00Hello!
44:02My mouth just dropped.
44:03I'm like, oh my God, I don't want to deal with this.
44:05Designers, make it work.
44:07Carry on.
44:09Santino, I want to hear more.
44:12Tim made me blush a little bit.
44:15I mean, let's be honest, she looks like a doormat.
44:17I'm not impressed anymore.
