00:00This season on Project Runway, we started with 16 semi-finalists from around the country and brought them to New York.
00:09Hello, everybody. Welcome to New York.
00:11We only had room for 14 designers, so we gave them a challenge.
00:15We sent you six yards of fabric, and we asked you to create an outfit that best expresses who you are as a designer.
00:22You may be wondering why it is there are only 14 workspaces.
00:26Tonight, two are going to be out.
00:30With so much on the line, the competition was fierce.
00:40Santino, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:42This is a great way to start a series of many wins.
00:46But in the end, two had to go.
00:49John, Heidi, you're out.
00:52Which one of our remaining designers has what it takes to be the next great American designer?
01:01This is Project Runway.
01:05Let's get it on.
01:06The search for the next big fashion designer.
01:09This is a dream come true.
01:10I'm going to do whatever it takes to win.
01:1216 designers.
01:13Everyone here is crazy.
01:15Drama has to happen.
01:17Yes, I'm a competitive person.
01:18Three finalists will make it to Olympus Fashion Week.
01:21You will see me at Fashion Week.
01:22But only one can be the winner.
01:25Heck yeah, I'm going to win this.
01:26For these 16 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:35Before receiving the new challenge, our 14 contestants moved into Atlas, New York, Gotham City's luxury apartment building in the heart of the fashion district.
01:45We found out who our roommates were, and I just about peed in my pants because it was Santino, Danny V, and it was Andre.
01:59These three guys are great.
02:02Oh my gosh, that's the Empire State.
02:04What first sparked my passion in fashion, my dad is a Greek diplomat, and I remember as a little boy watching my mom get ready for the diplomatic parties, and she would be all bouffant out and wearing these gorgeous gowns.
02:18And as a little boy, I'd be like, oh, look at her.
02:21Come on, Santino, come here.
02:23My roommates, it's going to be really sad when they, like, start to leave, and I'm still here.
02:28Can't we stay longer?
02:30I'm not Alexander McQueen yet.
02:33I'm not Calvin Klein yet.
02:35I'm not Tommy Hilfiger yet, but I am that person.
02:38I want to leave a mark like Shakespeare.
02:40I saw this, and I had to have it, man.
02:46Nice.
02:47That's cool.
02:48Very cool.
02:49Living in the Atlas, it's definitely a world of change from downtown Pennsylvania, where I live now, and have my own store.
02:56Woo!
02:58Sorry, ladies.
03:00Can't just take them.
03:01We have to do it diplomatically.
03:03Aw.
03:03I would say that Lupe and Cara are real easygoing.
03:08Okay, wait a second.
03:08Maybe I'll make it easy, and I'll just take this bed.
03:11Zuleem, her style, I think, is a little different than mine.
03:14Are those all yours?
03:15Yeah.
03:16Maybe you can, like, double up.
03:18You know, fair is fair.
03:19No, that's not going to happen.
03:21She lets you know what she's thinking.
03:23I don't believe in fair, man.
03:26Ruby.
03:26I have no problem with living with a group of people for a month.
03:29I mean, I am the oldest of seven children.
03:32When I was five years old, my mom didn't have enough money to buy me a sewing machine,
03:36so for the longest time, I made all my clothing by hand.
03:39If you would like one, I'm more than willing to give you one.
03:42Oh, thank you.
03:43You're so kind.
03:46I like that shirt you're wearing.
03:48It's a print of Rasputin, dude.
03:50Yeah, it was like the Merlin of Russia.
03:53Like Mary Lou, no?
03:55Sort of.
03:56Last season, I was cut first.
03:58And last challenge, I was one of the six to get called up on the stage, you know?
04:03I look forward to the next challenge.
04:05I want to impress the judges so people get a good impression of what I do,
04:08why I care about being a designer,
04:10and why you would care to purchase my clothes.
04:17Hello.
04:18Hi.
04:19Congratulations for making it to season two.
04:23At stake for the winner is a fashion spread in Elle magazine,
04:28a mentorship with the Banana Republic design team,
04:31a brand new Saturn Sky Roadster,
04:34and $100,000 courtesy of Saturn to start your own line.
04:38Okay, I'm going to host a little party for you guys tonight
04:41so you can get to know each other, relax, have a little fun.
04:46Tim will be there,
04:47and he will tell you all the details for a new challenge.
04:51At the party.
04:52At the party.
04:52Oh.
04:55For the first challenge,
04:57we assigned your model.
04:59This time, you can choose who you want to work with.
05:02Remember, choosing the right model
05:04can make all the difference.
05:05Let's bring out the girls.
05:22Models,
05:23this also is a competition for you as well.
05:27The model paired with a winner of Project Runway
05:30will get a fashion spread in Elle magazine.
05:32As you can see, there's 16 of you,
05:36but only 14 designers.
05:41The designers will now choose the model they want to work with,
05:45and at the end, two models will be out.
05:52Santino,
05:53you won the first challenge.
05:55You get the first pick.
05:57I really feel like it was a blessing from above
06:00to have Heather,
06:01and I would like to have my next challenge
06:03with Heather as well.
06:08And for the rest of you,
06:10I'm going to draw your names
06:11out of this bag randomly.
06:15Chloe.
06:16Actually, I love working with Grace again.
06:18She was great.
06:19Emmett.
06:20Shannon.
06:21Andrea.
06:22Danielle.
06:24Guadalupe.
06:25I'm going to work with Eliza again.
06:27Cara.
06:27I'm going to go with Eden.
06:29Zulema.
06:30Rachel.
06:32Marla.
06:32Cara.
06:34Nick.
06:35Tara.
06:35My little Naomi Campbell part two.
06:40Daniel Franco.
06:42I highly recommend Rebecca.
06:44You're great.
06:45But I like to try different coloring.
06:47So, Claudia, please work with me.
06:50Diana.
06:51I'd like Wesleyan, please.
06:54Kirsten.
06:55Melissa.
06:57Daniel.
06:58Bozovec.
06:59Rebecca.
07:04I was like, holy crap.
07:10There's one button left,
07:12but there's three models on the stage.
07:14Two models are going to be out.
07:15And that last button is Raimundo.
07:20Well, I think you guys are all beautiful,
07:22and this is a hard spot to put me in,
07:24but I think that a model really has to walk really well
07:27to sell the clothes.
07:28And I think you guys walked well,
07:29except that I especially like Maria.
07:33I'm sorry, girls.
07:42You're out.
07:44Offi da zin.
07:45Thanks.
07:46Thank you, guys.
07:47Offi da zin.
07:48Bye.
07:49Okay, you've picked your model,
07:56and I hope you're happy
07:57because this will be your model
07:59for the rest of the show.
08:01Oh, no!
08:04Oh, my God!
08:04Oh, my God!
08:05Oh, my God!
08:06All right, get dressed for the party.
08:09Bye.
08:10All right.
08:10All right.
08:10All right.
08:10Let's get dressed.
08:16All right.
08:17Let's get dressed.
08:19We went back to the apartment
08:20to get dressed,
08:20to go to the party,
08:21and actually, I thought,
08:23okay, what do I need to wear
08:23because they gave us 30 minutes to get dressed.
08:25So I chose this jersey dress
08:27that I went up, like, two days ago.
08:29It was so easy to put on,
08:30but it's still cute.
08:31Hey, can I ask you an opinion?
08:32Yeah.
08:33Do you think it's, like, too much?
08:35It's just a matter of the color, Diana.
08:37Okay.
08:38At first, I put on
08:39what was my old prom dress.
08:41I felt that I picked out
08:41a pretty stylish one
08:42when I was in high school
08:43so it could be worn again.
08:45My fashion sense is derived
08:46from science and technology
08:48because I don't really read
08:50about any of the normal fashion magazines.
08:52I usually read science magazines.
08:54Are you sure about over a dress?
08:56I think I'm going to wear the other dress.
08:57Yeah, you should.
08:58I put on the gold jacket
08:59and grabbed a scarf
09:01to wrap on my purse.
09:02I always just grab a scarf.
09:03I wear them all the time
09:05in remembrance of my mother.
09:07I'm an attorney.
09:08On the side,
09:09I started a line of swimwear.
09:11My head is definitely in fashion,
09:13and I would love to do it full-time.
09:15Does she want it like this?
09:16Yeah.
09:17Shall we party down or what?
09:19All right, guys.
09:19We're ready to overall, huh?
09:20Yeah.
09:26Thank you, darling.
09:42That's my song.
09:44We have to do a little makeover on Diana.
09:46I know it's going to get more and more difficult
09:55as the challenges get tougher,
09:57but I'll have to stay true to what I love,
09:59what I think is beautiful,
10:01and just do it.
10:02Can I ask all of you to gather around, please?
10:05This challenge is a serious test
10:07of how far you will go for fashion.
10:11Take a look at yourselves.
10:12I'm looking at you.
10:13You have great personal style.
10:16This challenge,
10:18you are going to use the clothes off your back
10:21to fabricate your design.
10:23No!
10:26I'm kidding.
10:28Yeah!
10:29It was like the record was skipping.
10:32We need more champagne.
10:34More champagne.
10:35My leather jacket and my jeans,
10:38and oh, no, no, no.
10:40When you get back to the Atlas apartment,
10:42what you're wearing tonight
10:43will go into one of these bags.
10:47It will be brought tomorrow to Parsons,
10:50and it will be your primary resource
10:53for your design.
10:56You have a lot of work to do tomorrow.
10:59Get some rest,
11:00and I'll see you in the morning.
11:01We're home.
11:02We're home.
11:02We're home.
11:03Oh, my gosh.
11:08We're home.
11:08We're home.
11:10Oh, my gosh.
11:12We're home.
11:12We're home.
11:13We're home.
11:13Very surprised, vintage leather jacket.
11:16Oh, my gosh.
11:16It's so cool.
11:17When Tim says to us
11:20that we have to take literally
11:22the clothes off our backs
11:23and turn it into fashion,
11:25at first I thought,
11:26oh, oh,
11:28I'm going to miss the coat a little bit.
11:30I got these clothes
11:31right at the time
11:33when I was trying to open up
11:34my little studio boutique,
11:35and before I came here,
11:37I just closed my shop.
11:38So these clothes were about my history.
11:41Hopefully there's a sink with soap.
11:43I'm really excited about the challenge,
11:51but for me,
11:52I'm really upset
11:54that I wore this scarf
11:55because it's a family heirloom.
11:57I don't know
11:57if I'm willing to give up the scarf
11:59for a chance to win the challenge.
12:03Okay.
12:04There it goes.
12:08Coming up on Project Runway.
12:10Lupe is going from person to person.
12:13giving her critique.
12:14You're going to sell innovation to me.
12:15Don't you even try to come right here.
12:17There's anyone a threat.
12:18Carol gets flustered easily.
12:21Oh!
12:23No.
12:33When Tim said that
12:35your second challenge
12:36is clothes off your back,
12:37I looked at myself like,
12:38oh, poor girl,
12:40you got nothing on.
12:41I thought, oh my God,
12:42what we're going to do,
12:43but this is why you're a designer.
12:45You have to be innovative.
12:54Good morning, everybody.
12:55How are you?
12:57Can I ask you to gather around, please?
12:58Welcome to your second challenge.
13:05The clothes off your back,
13:07quite literally.
13:08This challenge is about invention
13:11and about innovation
13:13and how well you can take
13:15these existing parts
13:16and make them work
13:17for an altogether different purpose.
13:19So we have from now until midnight,
13:22and that's it.
13:24Okay, so you ready to go?
13:25Yeah, let's go.
13:26All right, let's go.
13:27Let's go.
13:34Leather jacket, check.
13:37Chains, check.
13:38You wore my favorite jacket
13:40and now I'm destroying you.
13:44I was excited
13:44because I knew
13:45that I had enough materials
13:46to work with.
13:48I wore a pair of corduroy pants,
13:51my favorite leather jacket.
13:53I hold nothing sacred
13:54and there's no material possession
13:56that I have
13:57that I wouldn't let go
13:58to gain more.
14:02Emmett, get to work.
14:04Stop effing around.
14:05It's better just cut.
14:07Don't even think about it.
14:08Just start cutting.
14:09I spent about two hours
14:12just on the concept.
14:14I feel that without a solid concept,
14:17working, cutting, and draping
14:20would be futile.
14:24I like it.
14:25I mean, if I didn't,
14:26it wouldn't be on the mannequin.
14:27I wouldn't be cutting.
14:28I would never cut
14:28if I didn't like something.
14:30I cut when uncertain.
14:31Just do it.
14:32Don't overthink it.
14:33Go with your instincts.
14:34Don't think about concepts
14:36and what if this or what?
14:37Just do it.
14:38I always make my deadline.
14:39That's not even a question.
14:51I put on the gold jacket
14:52and the Minty's T-shirt
14:54totally last second.
14:55I grabbed a scarf.
14:57I'm combining the jeans,
14:58the denim,
14:59with the gold,
15:00changing it into a skirt,
15:01and I've decided
15:03not to use the scarf.
15:04It's very sentimental.
15:06It was actually a scarf
15:07that my grandmother
15:07gave my mother
15:08right around the time
15:09I was born.
15:10I still have questions
15:11about your intention.
15:12Like, do you intend
15:13it to be open?
15:15What is your intent?
15:17I think bad design
15:18is design that doesn't
15:19seem to have any intention.
15:21They'll probably say
15:22what's different
15:23about the shirt.
15:24Kirsten, her top
15:25doesn't really look like
15:27a top.
15:28It looks like a bra
15:28with a napkin
15:30on top of that.
15:31I want everything
15:31that you do
15:32to look like
15:32you really mean.
15:34Do you have a compass?
15:38I'm sorry,
15:39but is anyone a thread?
15:41Kara was nervous.
15:42She gets very anxious
15:43about things.
15:44She's like,
15:44oh my God.
15:45She gets really,
15:46really flustered easily.
15:48These jeans are making me crazy.
15:50Do you know how
15:51to thread this?
15:52I do,
15:52but I don't have time.
15:54Do you know
15:55how to thread this?
15:56I'm not going there.
15:57It's like,
15:58excuse me,
15:59can you come over?
16:00You just know that
16:02further on we go,
16:03there's less and less
16:04time for that.
16:05Oh!
16:07Can we finish this
16:10for me, Lupe?
16:11Yeah, sure.
16:11Thanks.
16:13Don't expect to win, though.
16:22How's Chloe?
16:23It looks like this,
16:24and actually the pocket
16:25is going to continue
16:26to the front.
16:27Okay.
16:27My design's a combination
16:28of my Rachel coat
16:30and a dress that I made.
16:32Really wasn't a lot
16:33of fabric,
16:34and I combined the two
16:35into kind of like
16:36a geometric,
16:37pretty cool,
16:38mini dress.
16:38Yeah.
16:39What's wrong with her?
16:39I don't know,
16:40but that's too much
16:40like my first outfit.
16:42I would just say
16:42that before you start
16:43dealing with the
16:44embellishments,
16:45dealing with the
16:45embellishments,
16:45yeah, really get
16:46the silhouette down
16:47and the construction down.
16:49I'm a little
16:49perplexed by
16:51this actually draping
16:53this way.
16:53When I heard from Tim,
16:54I was completely
16:55overwhelmed
16:56and didn't know
16:57what to take care of first.
16:58Be prepared to respond
16:59to that,
17:00because I think the judges
17:01are going to address it.
17:03So, Andre,
17:04all right,
17:05my only question
17:06for you is time.
17:08You've got to go,
17:08go, go.
17:09I was wearing
17:10a 1960s jeans jacket,
17:13apparently by jeans
17:14from the 70s.
17:15The challenge is about
17:16invention and transformation,
17:18so I thought,
17:18hmm, how can I take this
17:19and make it the absolute
17:21opposite of what it is now?
17:22And I'm transforming it
17:23into, ba-da-da-da-bum,
17:25a cheap-how,
17:26traditional Chinese dress.
17:28Wish me luck.
17:28It's just a matter of finishing.
17:32How would you instill
17:33innovation to me?
17:34What's innovative about it?
17:36Like, what do you find
17:37innovative about it?
17:38What would you tell me
17:40if I was a buyer?
17:42Oh, no.
17:42Try and get as much
17:43out as you can.
17:45All of a sudden,
17:45I looked in the corner
17:46and Lupe's going
17:47from person to person,
17:49sort of giving her critique,
17:50and I'm like,
17:51well, that's kind of nervy.
17:53But I really like it.
17:54It looks really good.
17:55You do it, girl,
17:56but don't you even
17:57try to come right here.
17:58You might get hurt.
18:00It's really, really good so far.
18:02But you got to look at you.
18:03I know.
18:03Look at this.
18:04Oh, no, no, no.
18:08Very quiet back there.
18:12How are you doing?
18:13I have a stupid amount
18:15of work to do.
18:16It's like, I don't...
18:16I'm concerned about Daniel
18:18because I work next to him
18:20and I can just feel his stress.
18:22Why am I tailoring?
18:23I mean, the project
18:24doesn't even deem
18:25that necessary.
18:26Oh, what?
18:27Answer here.
18:27What?
18:28Once again,
18:29Daniel is complicating things.
18:31When you have time,
18:33you make a tailored garment.
18:35You know, he tries really hard.
18:39I think it's really admirable
18:40that he is back
18:41and he's trying to do it again
18:43and that maybe you'll have him
18:44back again for the third season
18:45or something
18:45if he doesn't make it this season.
19:00Everybody, it's midnight.
19:03It's time to stop.
19:05At 12 o'clock,
19:0780% of the designers
19:09were not finished.
19:10That really shocked me.
19:12I was a little surprised
19:13to find that other people
19:15didn't take the time element
19:17into consideration.
19:19Andre, gotta stop.
19:20It's midnight.
19:22Okay?
19:23Tomorrow's a runway show
19:24and I'm a little bit scared
19:25because the pieces of my garment
19:27are all there,
19:29but they're not assembled
19:30into a dress yet.
19:31You gotta stop.
19:35I know, but stop.
19:35At midnight,
19:36I wasn't finished.
19:37I still had a couple
19:37of seams left to do.
19:39I felt that it was too ambitious.
19:40I didn't finish.
19:41All right, tomorrow.
19:42I think it's cool.
19:43Tomorrow.
19:43I really felt that I failed.
19:46Okay.
19:47Good night, everybody.
19:51Coming up on Project Runway.
19:52This is going to be
19:54a very tight day.
19:55My mom is not here.
19:56She's dropped out.
19:59Andre was at his width
20:00and you have to be more prepared.
20:02Don't talk.
20:03Just finish.
20:10When I head over
20:11to Parsons for D-Day,
20:14as I can now call it,
20:15depending on how I feel
20:17when I go back in,
20:18I may go,
20:18wow, I feel great about this.
20:19Or I may go,
20:20oh my God,
20:21I can't believe what's going on.
20:22I've got to fix this
20:22in less than two hours.
20:25We've got a hardcore time deadline,
20:27which to me, of course,
20:28always is a time for concern.
20:30You know,
20:30whatever it takes
20:31to finish the garment beautifully,
20:32I'm going to do.
20:34The judges send me home today.
20:36I'll be disappointed,
20:37of course,
20:37but I'm very proud of my design.
20:40I'm in good shape.
20:48Hi, everybody.
20:49Hi.
20:49Can you all just gather around?
20:55This is going to be
20:56a very tight day.
20:58You have a mere two hours
21:00to fit your model,
21:03get your model
21:03to the Theresa May Hair Salon,
21:06get your model
21:06to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room,
21:08and get her completely prepped
21:10for the runway judging today.
21:12You have a mere two hours.
21:13And looking around here this morning,
21:15I'm worried.
21:17A number of you
21:18have a lot of work to do.
21:21So you have to be
21:21very, very strategic
21:23in how you use your time.
21:24Models are coming in any moment.
21:26Okay.
21:26So you've got to go.
21:33Oh, s***.
21:34Of course, right now,
21:39I'm stressed out.
21:40It's only because the time
21:40is running out really quick.
21:42I think my aspirations
21:44for quality is a little bit,
21:46I don't know,
21:46a little higher.
21:47So it's harder for me
21:48because I've only become satisfied
21:50when it's at that level of quality.
21:51It's the make-it-work time.
22:08How's that feel?
22:08I mean, I feel that.
22:09That's awesome.
22:15Where are you going, though?
22:16Um, my mom is not here.
22:17She's dropped out.
22:18Oh.
22:19Which isn't good.
22:21But we have called
22:22one of the eliminated models,
22:23Allison.
22:24She's on her way over right now.
22:25Okay.
22:26So she'll be here any minute.
22:29I know.
22:30I know it's very bad.
22:33It's a little short for my taste.
22:35I see women wear dresses like that
22:37that are short like that
22:38all the time.
22:38Oh, God, you are fierce.
22:54As usual,
22:56my outfit is going to make
22:57a real splash
22:59and stand out.
23:00I'm...
23:01It's totally rock and roll.
23:03You made it!
23:04Ha-ha!
23:05I'm so proud of you!
23:06The biggest fear for me
23:08is being one of the people
23:09that get cut.
23:10I mean,
23:11I worked hard not to get cut
23:13on this challenge, you know?
23:15I worked hard,
23:15and hopefully the judges see that.
23:17Seem here, seem here,
23:17and that's it.
23:18Just do it fast.
23:19You all have 15 minutes.
23:21Andre, you're still in the dress form?
23:23Shh!
23:24Being this tight and close
23:26to the deadline
23:27with this much work to do
23:29is a little alarming.
23:31I'd love to talk,
23:32but it's not enough.
23:34Don't talk.
23:35I'm just looking.
23:37I realized that I had to make
23:38some last-minute changes.
23:39I got a little nervous.
23:40It's par for the course
23:41for me to get nervous.
23:42Okay, man, let's do it.
23:43Ready?
23:44Mm-hmm.
23:47I had just come back
23:49from hair and makeup,
23:50and Andre was just
23:52at his width,
23:53and...
23:54If you could sew
23:55this and this dad.
23:57What color?
23:58This.
23:58He had to sew
23:59the model into the dress.
24:01I think he was feeling
24:02very insecure.
24:04You have to be more prepared.
24:05Don't talk, just finish.
24:07Okay, everybody.
24:09This is it.
24:11It's the Andre.
24:12We've got to go.
24:15This was a unique garment
24:16in that it held
24:17a lot of symbolism
24:18for my life
24:20in the past three years,
24:21which have not been easy.
24:23If I was eliminated,
24:24it would be devastating.
24:26How sad.
24:26Okay, follow me.
24:29Coming up on
24:30Project Runway.
24:31Welcome back to the runway.
24:33Let's start the show.
24:38I was really tired,
24:39and it reflected my emotion.
24:42I don't need to hear all this.
24:44I'm sorry.
24:45I'm so sorry.
24:48Hello.
24:49Hello.
24:49Hello.
24:51Welcome back to the runway.
24:52Your challenge was to design
24:56a new outfit,
24:57and you were only allowed
24:58to use the clothes
24:59of your back.
25:00And you were given one day
25:01to complete the challenge.
25:04You were asked to improvise
25:05and be inventive.
25:07And that's what we're
25:08looking for tonight.
25:09All right, let's meet the judges.
25:14Fashion designer, Michael Kors.
25:18Nina Garcia, fashion director
25:19of Elle magazine.
25:21And the legendary Diane von Furstenberg.
25:24Good luck.
25:26We will score your designs
25:28as they come down the runway.
25:30The designer with the highest score
25:31will win this challenge.
25:33And one of you will be out.
25:40Let's stop the show.
25:49As I reconstructed my jacket
25:51into the skirt portion of my design,
25:55as I draped it on the dress form,
25:57style lines appear,
25:58and it looked pretty amazing.
26:03I think that Eliza rocked it.
26:12You know, I like a lot of movement,
26:13you know, in my clothes.
26:14Things that draw your attention
26:16and your eye to them.
26:17I loved it.
26:26I'm very happy with my project.
26:28I feel that it's innovative.
26:30I am proud to stand behind my work.
26:33If I were called out onto the runway
26:34and asked to defend my project,
26:36I most certainly could.
26:44Now that I have been here,
26:46I think it's put a lot of pressure on me.
26:48It's really important for me
26:49to stay all the way to the end.
26:51I definitely am here for the long run.
26:52Putting so much detail on my clothing,
27:07that takes a lot of work.
27:08But I don't like to let it out on the runway
27:10unless it's beautiful and perfect.
27:12That's my style.
27:13That's what I do.
27:14This garment,
27:27there's never been anything
27:28quite so personal for me.
27:30It's strange to think about
27:32how I've just closed my shop
27:33before I came here
27:34and how my life
27:35is never, ever going to be the same again.
27:38I'm confident in my design.
27:51I think I'm my worst critic.
27:53So if I'm happy with it,
27:55then hopefully it will suffice for the judges.
27:57My outfit is completely different
28:08than when it started
28:09and it has a completely different feel
28:11than the outfit I was wearing.
28:13Mine doesn't need to be the most brilliant.
28:15It just needs to be good enough
28:16to keep me hanging in there.
28:24I'm pretty realistic when I know
28:26I had a good design
28:27and a bad design
28:28and it stood on its own.
28:29You wouldn't have ever known
28:30that I'd combine a dress
28:31and a coat together
28:32and it looked like
28:33a completely different garment.
28:42When I saw her coming down the runway,
28:44I was happy.
28:44I was pretty confident
28:45with my outfit
28:46and then how I turned
28:47my leather jacket
28:48and t-shirt
28:49and foxtail
28:50into this modern punk girl.
28:56I basically used my whole outfit.
29:04I went for that sort of
29:06very urban Oliver Twist
29:07hipster look.
29:17My outfit was the mix
29:19of a little bit of rock and roll
29:21and a little bit of Parisian chic.
29:23It was great.
29:33I wanted to explore more movement.
29:38I wanted something
29:39that really swished around
29:40on the bottom
29:40and I was really happy
29:41with the result.
29:42I created a sweater dress
29:52out of my cardigan.
29:54I didn't wear very much
29:55that evening.
29:56A lot of people wore
29:56a lot more than I did
29:57and I did the best I could
29:59with what I had.
30:00There was a little shortage
30:01problem in the back
30:02but I thought the design
30:03was great.
30:04We've tallied your scores.
30:30Designers, please step
30:31onto the runway.
30:32If I call your name,
30:41please step forward.
30:46Guadalupe.
30:51Emmett.
30:57Raimundo.
31:01Marla.
31:02Nick.
31:11Kara.
31:15Diana.
31:22Daniel Bosalek.
31:24If I have called your name,
31:31congratulations,
31:33your scores were high enough.
31:35You make it for another challenge.
31:37You can leave the runway.
31:37The six remaining designers
31:49have the highest
31:50and the lowest scores.
31:54We will bring out your models,
31:55ask you some questions,
31:58and one of you will be named the winner
32:01and one of you will be out.
32:06Let's bring out your models.
32:07Santino.
32:08Santino.
32:21Santino.
32:21Hey.
32:22You shredded your leather jacket into bits.
32:26I did.
32:27Was that one of your favorite ones?
32:28It's my favorite jacket of all time.
32:31I took the power away from my favorite jacket.
32:34And I said, you know what?
32:35You're no longer my favorite jacket anymore.
32:37You're now going to become a dress.
32:39You know,
32:40if it were a competition
32:41of who would give their own skin for fashion,
32:43I would do it.
32:44You did.
32:45You gave your own skin,
32:46your favorite skin.
32:46I want to be a billionaire someday in my life
32:49and I'll buy hundreds of these jackets.
32:51I'll have it back.
32:53This is what I made
32:54and I'm really happy.
32:56Very nice.
32:57Great.
32:59Chloe,
33:00do you want to tell me
33:01what you thought about?
33:03I love clean lines
33:04and I love interesting lines
33:06that goes front and back.
33:08And just the combination
33:09of all the fabrication,
33:11the colors,
33:12I thought I can do it.
33:13It's my style.
33:14I loved it.
33:15If I wouldn't have this bump,
33:16I'd wear it right now.
33:17It looks amazing.
33:18Trying to keep it me
33:19as much as possible.
33:20Trying to keep it you
33:22is what you said?
33:23Yeah.
33:23It shows.
33:24I think it's very beautiful.
33:30Daniel.
33:31Can I see the back
33:32for a sec?
33:34So you took the jacket.
33:35What happened?
33:36Did we reset the sleeves?
33:37Is that what happened?
33:38I reset the sleeve
33:39and I wanted to polish up the denim
33:41and I wanted to play with the silhouette
33:43and these are the results.
33:46It's chic and it's tailored.
33:52It's very good looking.
33:53Thank you, Michael.
33:54I think that you did
33:55a beautiful job
33:56and much better than last time.
33:59Thank you, Nina.
34:05Sulema,
34:06why did you decide
34:08just to use your sweater?
34:09I just tried so many combinations
34:11and I just felt
34:13though it is short.
34:14I know.
34:14It is much shorter
34:15in the back
34:16than in the front.
34:16She has a lot of booty.
34:18I just...
34:19My mannequin is very flat
34:20and she has a lot of booty
34:21and usually I adjust
34:22for myself for that.
34:23But I do think that...
34:25that your challenge
34:27was to create something
34:28and not make excuses.
34:31I'm not making excuses.
34:32It is what it is.
34:33It is too short.
34:35I just did the best
34:36that I could
34:36with what I had.
34:44I have a question
34:45for Kirsten.
34:47You had a lot of material.
34:49You had a scarf.
34:50You had a jacket.
34:51You had a t-shirt.
34:52You had a pair of jeans.
34:54Let me explain the scarf.
34:56The scarf that I grabbed
34:58was one that my grandmother
35:00gave my mother
35:01when I was born.
35:02But why not use it?
35:03You didn't even have
35:04to destroy it.
35:05If it had been
35:05any other scarf
35:06except for the Napoleon scarf,
35:08it's spectacular.
35:11Would you wear this?
35:13I'd wear the top
35:13but with something
35:15a little bit more demure.
35:16And then I would wear the skirt
35:18but with a less sexy top.
35:20If your reaction
35:21is that you would wear
35:22that top
35:22with something more demure
35:24or you'd wear
35:25the skirt
35:26with something more demure,
35:28then what you basically did
35:29is you just went
35:30over the top.
35:34Andre,
35:36what were you thinking
35:37about this challenge?
35:40Where to begin?
35:42The first thing
35:43that Tim Gunn said to us
35:44when we were at the party
35:46was,
35:46the next challenge
35:48was going to be about
35:49how far you would go
35:51for fashion.
35:52Um,
35:53that was the goal.
35:56And it was really lucky
35:57for me because
35:58what I had to work with
35:59was
36:00a testimony
36:03of
36:04the first
36:07and maybe the last
36:08three years
36:09of my career.
36:10It sounds ridiculous.
36:11but it's true.
36:16Are those happy tears
36:17or sad tears?
36:17Both.
36:19I'm confused.
36:21I'm not sure
36:21if you like what you did
36:22or if you hate what you did.
36:23I'm completely confused.
36:24I love what I did.
36:26The coat
36:27and the jeans
36:28that I wore that night
36:29were...
36:30I wore because
36:32I was really tired
36:33and it reflected
36:34my emotion.
36:36I was bedraggled
36:38emotionally
36:39and so were my clothes.
36:42I just wish
36:43that all this emotion
36:44and all this energy
36:46that you have
36:46you focus on
36:48your creation.
36:49I don't need to
36:49hear all this.
36:51I just want to see it.
36:52I'm sorry.
36:53I'm sorry.
36:54I'm sorry.
36:55I'm sorry.
36:55I'm sorry.
36:57I'm not supposed
36:59to be crying.
37:01Jesus.
37:02I fear for you
37:03that you can't give us
37:05just a nice
37:06simple explanation.
37:08Okay,
37:08we heard what you had to say.
37:10You can leave the runway.
37:11Very interesting.
37:24To say the least.
37:25Was Andre's
37:26an Oscar-winning performance?
37:29I was confused
37:30with that reaction.
37:31Am I supposed
37:31to feel bad for him
37:32so I give him
37:33a good score
37:33so that he can stay?
37:35I don't know.
37:36I feel it's a bit
37:37unprofessional in a way.
37:38From the waist down,
37:39it just...
37:41It looked like
37:42you ran out of time.
37:43Yeah,
37:43it was sort of like,
37:44oh my God,
37:44the clock is ticking
37:45and I don't know
37:45what to do here.
37:48What I thought
37:49was very odd
37:50was Kirsten's.
37:51I didn't ask her
37:55to cut off the scarf.
37:56Oh, I don't know.
37:57I mean,
37:57that top to me
37:58was just look like
37:59you were to
37:59Bad Guns N' Roses concert.
38:01It was really tacky.
38:03Well, also,
38:04even when she said
38:04I wouldn't wear
38:06the top with the skirt
38:07and I wouldn't wear
38:08the skirt with the top.
38:09Well, then why did you...
38:09Why did you put it together?
38:10It's a limo.
38:16Well, I...
38:17I like it.
38:18I could only look
38:19at her butt, though.
38:20If you would not let
38:21a girl walk down the runway
38:22with her butt
38:23hanging out like that,
38:24would you?
38:24No, I wouldn't.
38:28Who I found
38:28very interesting,
38:30Daniel Franco.
38:31He surprised me.
38:32I thought it was beautiful.
38:34It was something
38:34that I would totally wear.
38:36It really,
38:37it fit her beautifully.
38:38And truly,
38:39you could have walked
38:40right off the runway.
38:41And it was a good design.
38:42Yeah, absolutely.
38:46So, Chloe was fantastic.
38:48I loved her, too.
38:50She had the least
38:51to work with
38:52and it looked like
38:53it was designed
38:54whether she had
38:55a constriction or not.
38:59We have Santino left.
39:01Well, that was quite nice.
39:03That was quite spectacular.
39:05He knows what he's doing.
39:07Totally.
39:07He knows what he's saying.
39:09He's very much in control.
39:11I think that Santino
39:12is a very obvious choice.
39:18We made our decision?
39:19Yes, definitely.
39:20Are they coming?

42:03Andre and Kirsten.
42:06One of you will be out.
42:11Kirsten.
42:13We wish that you've used
42:15more of your resources.
42:17We thought that your taste
42:18level wasn't there.
42:21Andre, we were moved
42:24by your story.
42:26But I think it's more
42:27important to be moved
42:28by what you've designed.
42:40Andre, you're in.

42:44You can leave the runway.
42:50I really like her.

42:56You can get me.
42:59I'll see her in LA.
43:01We love you.
43:02It's Kirsten.
43:09Is it illuminating?
43:10Yeah.
43:12That means Kirsten, you out.
43:17I'm sorry.
43:18I think the toughest part of my day
43:27was coming backstage and having
43:30to say goodbye to everybody.
43:31I have very few things left
43:37of my mother's or my grandmother's.
43:39So the decision to keep the family heirloom
43:43and not use it in the outfit
43:45was very true to myself and my style
43:48because I believe very strongly
43:52in family and friends.
43:53They're the most important thing.
43:54of you.
44:03You will be designing an outfit
44:04for one of fashion's most stylish icons,
