00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Designers, for this challenge, we're sending you out into the city.
00:07You will be working in teams of two.
00:11Jay, you're working with Mila.
00:12Wow.
00:17Ew.
00:18Welcome to Harlem, baby.
00:19Amy's style in Upper East Side might be a little bit of a clash.
00:23I just have to get over the fact that I don't like her.
00:26Jay hasn't even started a tank top yet.
00:28I have about a million pleats to make.
00:30Oh, shoot.
00:32We're .
00:38Emilio, congratulations.
00:40You are the winner of this challenge.
00:42Seth Aaron, you are also the winner of this challenge.
00:45Yay!
00:46Amy, you're out.
00:49Which model will be in?
00:50I'm gonna stay with Brittany.
00:53I'm sorry, Holly, that means you're out.
00:57This is Project Runway.
00:59Yes!
01:00I am fashion.
01:01Look at me.
01:02It's cut or be cut.
01:03Just make it work.
01:04Great clothes.
01:05Great style.
01:06Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:09Well, I won't do anything to win.
01:11I will.
01:12But only one can be the winner.
01:14My weapon of choice.
01:16For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:20The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie-Claire magazine.
01:24An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:27A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:33And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:37Losing Amy was really tough.
01:52The only thing that's saving me from being completely overwrought by this is that she's
01:59so strong.
02:00So, it's game on from this point forward.
02:03Everybody hold my black sunglasses on.
02:05I am closer to Bryan Park than I think most people probably ever expected me to get in this
02:11competition.
02:12But my eye and my focus is still on the prize.
02:19I'm a little jealous that, you know, Seth Aaron and Amelia won the challenge.
02:24I'm one of two girls and I'm the youngest one.
02:27You know, it's definitely scary now that there's only a few of us left.
02:31Let's go.
02:32Alright, let's go.
02:33I won yesterday but I'm normal today.
02:36You're normal.
02:37I'm normal.
02:38Hello.
02:39Hi.
02:40Now there are only seven of you left.
02:54So, for your next challenge we want you to take your creativity to the next level.
02:58Let's just say the next challenge will involve more than just choosing your fabric.
03:03Tim and a special guest are waiting for you in the workroom to fill in on all of the details.
03:08Good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
03:11Bye.
03:12Thanks.
03:13This challenge will involve more than just choosing our fabric.
03:17What does that mean?
03:18Are we going to get a couple pocket elves to help us sew?
03:21I mean, what is it?
03:22Good morning, designers.
03:23Good morning.
03:24Good morning.
03:25I am thrilled to introduce Vivian Tam.
03:28I'm so excited to be here.
03:31Yeah.
03:32Vivian is a designer who understands how to marry the art of fashion with the science of technology.
03:37You're going to be doing something that every fashion designer dreams about but seldom realizes.
03:44You're going to be designing, creating your own textile to serve as the core of the design that you developed for this challenge.
03:52Wow.
03:53Yes.
03:54Exciting.
03:55Very exciting.
03:56I am so excited about creating fabric and I'm completely confident that I'm going to be able to really create something that's me.
04:03You've all been using your HP TouchSmart notebooks.
04:06Now you're going to carry it over into a TouchSmart all-in-one desktop to design your textile.
04:12And that textile will be digitally printed for you.
04:15Working with HP, they make the computer more personal.
04:18Today the challenge is all about fashion with technology.
04:21My vision started with this beautiful butterfly and it turned into this beautiful fabric.
04:27My prints are my inspiration.
04:29Now is your turn to make your designs.
04:32HP and Intel are proud to bring you the technology.
04:35Now you have to supply the vision.
04:37So designers, you will have an hour to develop your design.
04:41And your design will be manufactured by Dynamics.
04:45So you will receive it tomorrow morning.
04:47It's so challenging, huh?
04:48Yeah.
04:49Yeah.
04:50So you have two days for this challenge.
04:52Great.
04:53We will be going to Mood where you will buy supplementary fabric.
04:57And then today you can prototype in muslin.
04:59And Vivian, we have you and HP and Intel to thank.
05:03So thank you so much.
05:04I'm looking forward to see your prints.
05:05So we're going to let you design.
05:06I'm so excited about this because I've never designed my own fabric.
05:11It's amazing.
05:12Absolutely amazing.
05:14I've never made my own fabric before.
05:17It's exciting.
05:18But at the same time, it's challenging and nerve wracking.
05:21Prints don't typically work for Anthony.
05:24So this is just a challenge.
05:26However, I'm trying to remain focused because ultimately we have like an hour to design a textile
05:31and print it out.
05:32So here we go.
05:35My idea is to create something that emulates giant drips of paint on a canvas.
05:43I am using a paint brush to create my design and it truly feels like I'm painting.
05:49I've chosen to use a technique to create my pattern that's actually subtractive.
05:54It's kind of scrolling, organic, very painterly.
05:57This is fun.
05:58I want one of these.
05:59I want one of these.
06:00I wouldn't need a TV anymore.
06:02As a designer, I think branding is what we want to do.
06:06So I chose to do a graffiti print with my initials.
06:09Brian Park, here we go.
06:12Do we have time to print so I can see what it may look like?
06:14All you have to do is press print.
06:16Oh.
06:17I mean, it'll automatically just go.
06:26I want to, you know, show the judges that I can use color.
06:30And I am using black again, but I'm using red and a little bit of bright orange in this palette.
06:39All right, designers, this is very exciting.
06:41We're sending off your fabric to be manufactured.
06:44And we're heading off to Mood to get supplemental fabric, all right?
06:47So come with me.
06:52All right, designers, you have $100 and 20 minutes.
06:56So surely after all this designing of the textile, you know what you're doing.
07:00I see looks of fear.
07:04Your 20 minutes starts now.
07:06I design five to ten sketches really quickly.
07:17And then I look for fabric.
07:18The fabric that I find that best suits the design is what I go with.
07:21Girl, this look like algebra.
07:27Give me an eighth of that.
07:28Okay.
07:29I'm using color this time.
07:30I love yellow.
07:31So I'm going with a British take on pop punk.
07:36All right, that's it.
07:39Time, everyone.
07:40You need to be at the counter ready to pay.
07:42I'm like running like crazy.
07:44Oh, my God.
07:45I can't wait.
07:46Thanks.
07:47Woo.
07:48Off we go.
07:51Come on, everyone.
07:52Let's go back to Parsons.
08:02I'm doing three pieces.
08:03A jacket, a skirt, and a top.
08:06With the more time, the judges are going to want to see more work.
08:10My plan of attack is to first start drafting and designing a strapless dress with a V-neck.
08:17I'm also using a giant piece of the print on one entire side of the dress.
08:23Jillian, hi.
08:24I'm so excited.
08:25Oh, my God.
08:26That's the brightest yellow I've seen in my life.
08:28It's so bright, isn't it?
08:29Mila, there's just a lot of things wrong with the fabric that she designed.
08:34I think that, like, when we were children, we played with Legos.
08:38I don't want to wear Legos.
08:39I just wanted to play with them.
08:41I'm just hoping...
08:42What does your print look like?
08:43Can I look at it?
08:44Well, this is it.
08:45But it's actually...
08:46Where is it?
08:47It was so transparent.
08:48It has to be fixed.
08:49Oh, this is it.
08:50My print was so light that when I printed a mock-up of it, I actually couldn't even see what it looked like.
08:56So I'm worried that that could jeopardize my original vision.
09:00What are you making?
09:01A jacket.
09:02Well, bar an ass out of myself.
09:07I figured I'd try something new this time around.
09:10Anthony's trying separates again.
09:12In this challenge, I'm thinking about doing separates simply because I'm trying to create a more edgy look for myself, but already I'm feeling a little iffy about it.
09:23Lord, I'm gonna pray now for this jacket.
09:27Because I've never made one L in my life.
09:30Okay, I'm gonna run with it.
09:33But I'm fighting my viscera.
09:35So I started draping a blue leather, like, bustier.
09:40And then when I had it all completed, I put it on the dress form, and I hate it.
09:44Do it this way.
09:45If it was somebody else's garment coming down the runway, what would you say about it?
09:49It's now or never.
09:50I'm not gonna have a second chance if I don't do this right.
09:54Okay, okay.
09:55Think, think, think, think, think, think, think, think.
10:00Coming up on Project Runway, I'm having a little bit of a block on this challenge.
10:04It's a pretty basic silhouette.
10:06We do not listen to Tim whether he likes it or not.
10:09Wow.
10:21Okay, my viscera tells me to abandon the blue leather bustier.
10:26You don't like the blue?
10:29I'm not crazy about the blue.
10:30He's not talking to me.
10:31As a designer, I think I have the right or just the preference to change direction anytime I feel like it.
10:37So I just took it apart and started over again.
10:40Hmm.
10:41Maya, you must be dying something.
10:43Dying something? No.
10:44Oh.
10:45I'm having some difficulty with the print challenge because I don't normally work with prints.
10:50I think I might be in trouble this time.
10:52You know, I blame Beyonce for everything that go wrong in my life.
10:58It's something about her song that will make you think, first of all, that you are a size for, that you can conquer the world, and that, I don't know, you are all powerful.
11:09Do you think Beyonce has a song for people who can't find jobs? Or the interview that you didn't do so well in? Do she sing any songs about that?
11:17I think everyone loves Anthony. I don't even think he tries to be funny.
11:22I love that about him.
11:25I wouldn't like Oprah, because out of all the days she could book me for her show, she'd book me for the show where she don't be screaming, you'll get a car, you'll get a car, you'll get a car.
11:33Oprah don't book me on the, my husband has a porn addiction. No, Oprah, I don't want to be on that show.
11:40Because my uncle Leroy got that same problem.
11:43I do not purposely try to be entertaining in the workroom.
11:47Even when I'm like pouring out my heart and like being like somber and all that, people still laugh at me for some reason.
12:01I can't wait to see my fabric. You know, if the colors are off, it's going to look like crap.
12:07I feel great leaving the workroom tonight. Myself and all the designers included are so excited to see our printed fabrics.
12:13Now we can leave.
12:14Woo!
12:23Hello?
12:24Hey, how are you?
12:25Happy birthday.
12:26Thanks. So, how's the puppy?
12:28I think so fine.
12:30If I sit and think about how much I miss my family, it will affect why I'm here.
12:38I'm here to win Project Runway season seven.
12:41Okay, I'll call you again, baby.
12:43Okay, I love you.
12:44Love you too.
12:45Bye.
12:46Bye.
12:53Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.
12:54Oh my God.
12:57Oh my God.
12:59All of us walk into the workroom and our textiles are ready for us.
13:04Now we're watching our beautiful creations unfold.
13:07I love it.
13:09We made our own fabric.
13:10Oh my God.
13:11I love you and I don't even know you yet.
13:15Oh my God.
13:17Oh my God.
13:18Oh my God.
13:19Wow.
13:20I open my roll and it's beautiful.
13:22It's the most beautiful grayish blue.
13:24There's this beautiful oil spot effect kind of going on and the sheer layers.
13:29It's just really gorgeous fabric.
13:31Wow.
13:32It's so vivid.
13:33Yeah.
13:34The colors.
13:35Did you want it to be just vivid?
13:36Yeah.
13:37Oh my God.
13:38Can we make out with our fabric?
13:39This is amazing.
13:41S-A-E-S-O-S.
13:44E-S-O-S-A.
13:48Okay.
13:49I don't get it.
13:50E-Sosa.
13:51E-Sosa.
13:52Emilio Sosa.
13:53Oh, got it.
13:54E-Sosa.
13:55Sorry, it's early still.
13:56Damn, Mercedes.
13:57I think Emilio's print is probably one of the worst in the room.
14:03Emilio is good at fitting things, but I feel like his taste is questionable.
14:09I am so freaking stoked on this.
14:12My fabric looks freaking amazing.
14:14So I think I have a very, very powerful look in front of me.
14:18Yours looks like he's coming along beautiful.
14:21I like the print.
14:23I'm just having a hard time with...
14:26Did you read?
14:27Well, I just don't know how me it is.
14:30I'm kind of, you know, wondering what I should do.
14:33This isn't really a challenge where I can be very sculptural.
14:36So I'm really trying to put something together that represents me.
14:44All right, designers.
14:45I'm eager to see the outcomes of your custom textiles.
14:49So I'm just here to check in with all of you, and Milo, I want to start with you.
14:52Okay, great.
14:53Great.
14:54I'm so happy with the way it turned out.
14:56I know it looks kind of evening, but the twill makes it feel, you know, more daytime to me.
15:02So you want it to read evening?
15:03I don't want it to read evening.
15:04But isn't it the length, sort of by definition?
15:06Well, yeah, but I just thought it was like, you know, maxi dress kind of for a spring event kind of thing.
15:12All right.
15:13Well, just carry on.
15:15Carry on.
15:16Thanks, Milo.
15:17Thank you, TG.
15:18I did a three-piece suite.
15:19I see it as being early spring.
15:21So I'm doing a lightweight leather jacket.
15:24It's a wrap jacket.
15:25She'll have a prim, little fitted dress with a blouse.
15:29This is my one concern.
15:31The proportion of this to this.
15:33Too much here.
15:34Just look at that when it's on her.
15:36Yeah.
15:37Thank you, Tim.
15:39This is my textile, which is a graphic.
15:42What is it supposed to say?
15:44Uh, it says E Sosa.
15:46And S-A is Seth Aaron?
15:48Seth Aaron?
15:49Emilio Sosa, S-O-S-A.
15:52I see.
15:53Seth Aaron Emilio Sosa.
15:55Oh, I didn't see that.
15:56That's all I see.
15:57Well, I don't see that.
15:59Emilio Sosa, S-O-S-A.
16:02I see.
16:03Wow.
16:04All right.
16:05I have to recalibrate my thinking, because that's not what I see at all.
16:09So basically what I wanted to create was a 1940 silhouette combined with like a graffiti print.
16:15That's why I did the text.
16:17I wanted the print to be the thing.
16:20And that is what it is, because if you take the print away, it's a pretty basic silhouette.
16:24Well, I would say it's a classic silhouette.
16:27Tim Gunn comes in and automatically, he mocks it.
16:30And I'm like, okay, great, Tim.
16:33But you know what?
16:34I do not listen to Tim, whether he likes it or not.
16:37How's Seth Aaron?
16:38This is my sketch.
16:39When creating my textile, I went for a British pop punk feel.
16:43Do I say it?
16:44Oh, absolutely.
16:45It printed wonderfully.
16:46The tiles are a little larger than I thought they would be.
16:49This is fantastic.
16:52This needs to be just as good.
16:55All right.
16:56All right.
16:57Thank you, Seth Aaron.
16:59So for this challenge, it's a little bit of a challenge for me, because I'm not really a print type person.
17:07Really?
17:08You fooled me.
17:09I mean, I'm trying to make it as me as possible, but...
17:12I kind of had a block on this challenge, to be honest.
17:15I'm trying to work it out.
17:16Unblock.
17:17I know.
17:18Unblock.
17:19Someone's going home.
17:20You don't want it to be you.
17:21I know.
17:22I'll figure it out.
17:24Okay.
17:26Thank you so much.
17:27So talk to me about what you're designing.
17:28What I'm designing is just celebrating the lines that are in the pattern, without being
17:33so literal, like showing them in the skirt and showing a little detailing in the bodice.
17:38I'm concerned that the judges may say to you that you weren't ambitious enough.
17:44So work away.
17:45Well, thank you, Tim.
17:46Thank you, Anthony.
17:47All right, designers.
17:49So you have until midnight tonight.
17:51All right.
17:52I'll see you tomorrow.
17:55That is so cool.
17:56It's perfect.
17:57Good.
17:58I hope they don't see that.
17:59It got wet right there.
18:02A lot of designers never get the chance to design their own fabric.
18:07No.
18:08Carrie tries on the blouse.
18:09We get the dress on her.
18:10It's great.
18:11There's minor alterations to it.
18:12But overall, the look looks fantastic on her.
18:14You know, I'm completely convinced that I've got a really great look on my hands.
18:17This is, like, getting so hard.
18:21Like, most of my work, I like to be dimensional and prints are, like, so flat.
18:25It was hard in the beginning, but I feel like it's harder now.
18:29And I really want to win a challenge.
18:31That's, like, all I'm focusing on.
18:34I don't want to be safe.
18:35I don't want to be in the top and not win.
18:37I want to win a challenge.
18:40Mila and her white teepee of a dress I'm baffled by.
18:45How can someone call themselves a designer and not be able to work in color?
18:50I'm very confident in my color and fabric choices.
18:54It's definitely taking a risk, but I feel like at this point in the competition, I have to take risks,
18:59and I have to listen to what the judges are saying.
19:05Anthony, how is your fitting?
19:08I'm trying to figure out if I want to keep working with this bodice or abort.
19:13Anthony's taste is questionable sometimes.
19:15I mean, he's a joy to have around.
19:17I'll be sad to see him go if he does before me,
19:20but I just can't imagine him making a collection for Bryant Park.
19:24Be-da-boom. Be-da-boom.
19:26So runway's tomorrow, and I feel good.
19:29I know it's totally me.
19:31Obviously, I created the fabric.
19:33How's it going?
19:34Oh, it's going, Maya.
19:36The bodice, it's just too big.
19:38It's large, and I just think that it's going to be really cumbersome
19:41to try to work through these alterations.
19:44I basically scrapped my first top.
19:46The fit wasn't incredible, and it was one of those,
19:49do I keep working on this top,
19:51or do I go to something I know I can make fit and look fabulous?
19:54It's giving me quite a conundrum trying to work through my reality
19:58and what may happen tomorrow.
20:01What did I do to do third of these?
20:09Coming up on Project Runway.
20:11Wait, wait, there is something wrong.
20:12I'm pushing it to the last second today.
20:14I think Mila is in trouble.
20:16We're off to the runway.
20:26Whew.
20:27So tired.
20:29I didn't sleep last night.
20:31Really?
20:32I'm feeling so exhausted this morning.
20:34This is definitely not the easiest challenge for me.
20:37It just feels a lot more intense than it has so far.
20:40You look like a gay Christmas ornament.
20:44Why'd you say that?
20:45Now he's going to want to change.
20:47No, you look beautiful.
20:48I'm sorry.
20:49Babe, I'm sorry.
20:50Babe.
20:51Babe.
20:52It's going to be a nice runway shirt today.
20:54I feel so strong about my fabric and my design,
20:57but you never know how the runway is actually going to go
21:00because in Project Runway land, anything can happen.
21:04Are we leaving?
21:05I'm going to change my pants.
21:06I think you look hot.
21:07Oh my God.
21:08Thanks, Anthony.
21:09Sabotage.
21:14All right, fellas.
21:15We are leaving as three.
21:17We're coming back as three.
21:19Returning as three.
21:21Three.
21:36I still think I have a great chance of going to Bryant Park.
21:41I'm trying to focus a lot on being very consistent
21:45and pushing the boundaries with my design.
21:49If I can't get sleeved on a jacket in an hour,
21:52then there's just something wrong.
21:54Wait, wait.
21:55There is something wrong with me.
21:56I did a lot of pieces.
21:57I did a shirt, a tie, a blazer, pants.
22:00So I'm pushing it to the last second today.
22:03Anthony has a lot on his plate this morning.
22:06Right now, I'm trying to figure out
22:08what can I do to make my dress a little more special.
22:12Yay.
22:13Turtleneck.
22:14Done.
22:15I'm definitely ready for the runway show
22:17based on the amount of work I put in last night,
22:19but you can't even tell anymore who is in trouble
22:22or who's going home.
22:24It's such a tight competition at this point.
22:28Good morning, everyone.
22:30Good morning.
22:31I'm about to send in your models.
22:32You know the drill.
22:33You'll have an hour to send them
22:35to the Garnier Hair Salon
22:36and the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room.
22:38Use the bluefly.com wall very thoughtfully
22:40and strategically.
22:41I will be back to take you down to the runway
22:43a little later.
22:44Thank you, Tim.
22:45All right, make it work, everyone.
22:51Can I try something on you real quick?
22:53First of all, I wanted to have you go to make sure.
22:55So I didn't do it just plain down.
22:57I did a little kick-free detail in the back.
22:59Nice.
23:00I don't really care for Jonathan's look.
23:03It's really pale.
23:04And then when you look at the colors, they're really pale.
23:06And Jonathan's really pale.
23:08And it's just like, I just want to take a bucket of paint
23:10and just throw it over on that side of the room,
23:12because everything is pale as hell.
23:14I'm so happy with this print, too.
23:16I couldn't be happier.
23:18I think Mila is in trouble,
23:20due to the fact that her dress is so stiff
23:23and that Brandeis can't walk.
23:25Oh, I think it's so cool.
23:26Yeah, I like the hair like that.
23:27Oh, I like it.
23:28Okay, let's go down to hair and makeup.
23:35And a little bit of black smoky at the top,
23:37not at the bottom now.
23:40Really dark.
23:41No color.
23:46I just want to hear a pull back in upon the tail,
23:48and blend.
23:52Structure to the side.
23:56Designers, in ten minutes,
23:59we are all going down to the runway.
24:02Ten minutes.
24:12I think it's cool.
24:13I think it looks great on you.
24:14I love the way the dress came out.
24:16I think it's totally me,
24:17but it's going to be a real matter of taste this time,
24:20so we'll see what the judges think.
24:22Go team, Jay and Brittany.
24:24There's nothing else in that room that can top this.
24:30The print is smart, it's bold.
24:33I feel good.
24:35I love the way that it's loose,
24:36because it is a day look, so...
24:39I don't want to go home.
24:40My biggest fear is getting so close
24:42that I can see Bryant Park out of the corner of my eye
24:45and then losing it.
24:48Designers and models,
24:49we're off to the runway.
24:52Right here, right here, right here.
24:53Right here, right here.
25:01Thank you, everyone.
25:05Coming up on Project Runway...
25:07It's too conceptual, it's too weird.
25:09It's like a disco straitjacket.
25:11Full-on catastrophe.
25:13Welcome to the runway.
25:23As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,
25:25and the next day, you're out.
25:28For this challenge, we gave you the tools
25:30to design your own fabric.
25:32This is a project runway first,
25:34and an opportunity that a lot of designers dream of.
25:38I hope you'll wow us,
25:40because now the competition is tougher than ever.
25:44Okay, let's meet the judges.
25:46First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
25:48Hey, guys.
25:49Hi, Michael.
25:50Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
25:53Hi, Nina.
25:54Hi, everyone.
25:56And fashion designer, Vivian Tam.
25:59Hi.
26:01We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:03One of you will be named the winner,
26:05and one of you will be out.
26:08Let's start the show.
26:09It's pretty amazing, because 24 hours ago,
26:15I was drawing this pop art on a computer screen,
26:19and now it's walking down a runway.
26:25It's crisp.
26:26It's clean.
26:27It's fully finished,
26:28and it's just everything I wanted it to be.
26:35I think my garment has definitely achieved
26:38everything I set it out to achieve.
26:40The print is soft and subtle,
26:42and the mix of the textures is really beautiful,
26:44and the colors look great on Carrie.
26:57The dress looks very electric,
26:59and it looks like it's moving,
27:01which is what I wanted.
27:02It's very bold and powerful.
27:04There's the textural element and the print element.
27:07I love it.
27:16As I watch Lorena, I'm like,
27:17we got this.
27:20The print is graphic.
27:21It's bold.
27:22It's energetic.
27:24It says everything that we were challenged to do.
27:28My print is spot on.
27:30I love my dress.
27:31I love the little jacket with it,
27:32but then Brandeis has picked the dress up on the side to walk with it,
27:45and I'm really freaking out about that,
27:47but I used print in a way that no one else did.
27:49I am very proud of the look that I created for Christina.
28:04She looks polished, and she looks feminine.
28:06She looks like a lady.
28:07That's everything that I try to exude as a designer.
28:20The whole look turned out the way I wanted it to be.
28:23It has this very military-inspired attitude,
28:26and the fabric has this tribal feeling to it,
28:29with the black and the green.
28:41Jay, congratulations.
28:43Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
28:46You can leave the runway.
28:54The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
28:58One of you will be named the winner,
29:01and one of you will be out.
29:03Let's bring out your models.
29:04Emilio, tell us about your print and your design.
29:17For this challenge,
29:18I wanted to showcase two of my greatest influence,
29:21which is graffiti and 1940s French fashion.
29:25So I decided to create a print using text.
29:29It says E Sosa, which is my name,
29:32and the hearts represent the O's.
29:35I have to say, I am in love with the whole outfit.
29:38The coat is just a different, unique shape.
29:41She looks very sophisticated.
29:43And then the dress underneath is stunning.
29:45You nailed it.
29:47I mean, you nailed it.
29:49To come up with a signature pattern,
29:51and that it's abstract, how great is that?
29:55I would love to wear it,
29:56but I would love to see the heart shape in the neck
29:58or in the waist area with the black.
30:00So it ties back to the print.
30:02The unexpected juxtaposition of the 40s
30:05and the graffiti was fantastic.
30:08She looks great from head to toe.
30:10Thank you very much.
30:12Mila.
30:13Okay, I wanted to create something painterly for my print.
30:16I thought because it was such a large scale,
30:18I wanted to show a big piece of it.
30:21I worked on the strap detailing,
30:23and I just made a little jacket
30:25to show some versatility in the way that it could be worn.
30:28I don't find anything intriguing about this print.
30:33It's like a Mexican Serape gay flag,
30:36and no matter how great your model is,
30:39she literally was hobbling down that runway.
30:44I love that it's finished,
30:45but this dress is definitely something
30:48that you've seen in the 70s before.
30:50It looks too stuck in time.
30:52This is not much of a print.
30:54You used it very modestly.
30:56This print, it doesn't go with this dress.
30:59It's like a mixed message.
31:02Anthony.
31:03I thought to myself, hmm, Anthony,
31:05let's try playing with color and geometric shapes
31:08to see if we can give you a little edge this time around.
31:10I wanted something that was structured,
31:12but something that was a little festive at the same time.
31:14I think there's a few things that are going on
31:17that I don't quite understand.
31:19Is the shrug, is this a shrug?
31:21Um, that's an interesting question, Nina.
31:24The initial jacket that I created,
31:27honey, she died.
31:29So in the final hour, I had to create a different piece.
31:32Like, you stop explaining.
31:33Just say it was a shrug.
31:34It was a shrug.
31:35I didn't know.
31:36I'm trying to go more modern.
31:37But you still hold on to some of the things, quite honestly,
31:41that make it look very normal.
31:43The sweetheart line may be too sweet
31:45for the architectural print.
31:47I can see your effort,
31:48but you didn't go further enough to develop it.
31:51I feel like I've seen this many times from you,
31:54this silhouette.
31:55I just would love to see something different.
31:59Seth Aaron, tell us about your design.
32:02I like to draw pop art.
32:04So this is hand-drawn and represents
32:07a vibe of a young lady's face.
32:09And then I gridded it in thick windowpane.
32:12This complete look represents me 100%.
32:15What I like about you, Seth Aaron,
32:17is that you're always true to yourself.
32:19You know, the whole color combination is wild and crazy,
32:23but it works at the same time.
32:25It's impeccable.
32:26It's got personality.
32:27And each piece on its own, they're great pieces.
32:31I thought your print was very charming.
32:34And I love the fact that you did this jacket.
32:37It looks sharp.
32:38It looks very well made.
32:40Adorable.
32:41Maya.
32:42Well, for this challenge,
32:44I wanted to create a textile that had a lot of movement.
32:47And I'm really trying to pull the flat and the textural quality
32:52to combine a total architectural, sculptural look.
32:55And I really like the way it came out.
32:58I think it's very me.
32:59I think you did a brilliant job with your print.
33:02It's almost like electricity.
33:04However, you have the print, the textured panel,
33:07and then you have her hair.
33:08There's a lot going on.
33:10The coolest thing about this is that this look
33:14has this weird juxtaposition going on.
33:17She's kind of like a romantic warrior.
33:20Every way I look at the dress, I'm intrigued.
33:23In general, I do love the print.
33:25And I think that you give, like, a textural effect to your designs.
33:29It's very, very good.
33:30Give it more three-dimensional.
33:31I like it.
33:32Thank you very much.
33:33Jonathan, tell us about your fabric and your overall design.
33:37I laid layers of sheer polka dots.
33:39And when they came over the different sheer fields of color,
33:42they almost gave, like, a watercolor effect.
33:44Instead of doing it a wrap jacket in the front,
33:46I chose to turn it around and give it a different twist.
33:49And then underneath, Carrie has a double-layered silk chiffon
33:52trapeze blouse under the cocktail dress,
33:54which is completely made out of the print.
33:56The jacket, first off, is just...
33:59It's like a disco straitjacket.
34:01It doesn't make any sense.
34:02Then I get to the print, which looks like a dirty tablecloth
34:06that food just kind of randomly spilled on.
34:10To refer to it as a dirty tablecloth, I think, is just preposterous.
34:14But there's nothing compelling about that print.
34:16I just can't see the emotional attachment that anyone would have.
34:20Oh, God, look at that.
34:23Your husband helps you back into your straitjacket.
34:26Oh, that's not a good thing, sweetie.
34:32This is a full-on catastrophe.
34:36That kick pleat on the back is beyond upsetting to me.
34:40It looks dirty, it looks poor, it looks soiled.
34:42The emotion that I get is sadness.
34:45I feel sad.
34:46But is sad not an emotion?
34:48I actually think there have been many clothes over the years,
34:51quite frankly, that are sad or melancholic, but in a beautiful way.
34:57But I definitely stand by my print.
34:58It's more organic.
34:59It is a different emotion than the other pieces on the stage,
35:02but I think that's okay.
35:04Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:07We're gonna have a little chat, and then I call you back.
35:11You can leave the runway.
35:13Let's talk about the designers that we didn't like.
35:23Let's start with Anthony.
35:25My problem with Anthony is that there is always an explanation.
35:29There's always an excuse.
35:31He always does this kind of silhouette, every time, over and over and over again.
35:36I mean, I think he just takes very basic forms, and he decorates them.
35:40Yeah.
35:41You need to be more adventurous.
35:46Let's move on to Mila.
35:47I feel she took the easy road in here.
35:49She could have given us something more creative.
35:52I mean, the poor model looked like she was walking in a striped teepee.
35:56And you know what?
35:57This is the sundress that everyone's mom wore in 1972 on a patio.
36:01Yeah.
36:02You know, there's nothing special about this dress.
36:08Let's talk about Jonathan's dress.
36:10He got very offended when he said that, you know,
36:12his print was reminding you of a dirty tablecloth.
36:15He was like...
36:17It looked poor.
36:18I think this was a total car crash today.
36:20We have told him in the past that, yes, we praise him for taking chances
36:24and being conceptual and all that.
36:26But this time around, that's what killed him here.
36:29It's too conceptual.
36:30It's too weird.
36:34Let's talk about the designers that we did like.
36:37Let's start with Seth Aaron.
36:39Talk about making clothes that look unbelievably beautiful.
36:44Unbelievably polished on not a lot of money and not a lot of time.
36:49Seth Aaron, I feel like, is always full of ideas.
36:52Yep.
36:53He gets it.
36:54He's true to himself.
36:56Thinks outside of the box.
36:58I like the print.
36:59It's whimsical.
37:02Emilio.
37:03I love his print.
37:04And I love the dress.
37:05I would love to have that dress.
37:06The sleeve shape and the jacket, the back drape, it's so beautiful.
37:09Yeah.
37:10Adorable.
37:11That was great.
37:12This print could work smaller, bigger, many colors, different fabrics.
37:18Doesn't matter what you would do it in.
37:20Exactly.
37:23Let's talk about Maya.
37:25The side silhouette of it I thought was really fabulous.
37:28I mean when she said I wanted to give my print movement, she totally got me because yes, you can totally see that in her print.
37:37She makes beautiful clothes and in terms of fabric she probably did the nicest print.
37:42I agree.
37:43Maya's print is my favorite print today.
37:45It's flattering, easy to work with, and it's special.
37:49All right, so we've made our decision.
37:56Okay, let's bring them back out.
38:05One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
38:08Emilio, you are the winner of this challenge.
38:27He did a great job both with the print and the design.
38:30The final result was polished, spirited, and cool.
38:35Congratulations.
38:36You can leave the runway.
38:37Thank you very much.
38:43I win the challenge.
38:45That's cool.
38:47The third time.
38:48Three, baby.
38:49This one just showed everyone that I'm a force to be reckoned with.
38:54Seth Aaron, another great job.
38:56You're in.
38:57You can leave the runway.
38:58Thank you so much, guys.
39:02Maya, you're in.
39:03You can leave the runway.
39:04Thank you so much.
39:06It's definitely frustrating that I have been so close to having wins three times now.
39:11I was really hoping to win this challenge.
39:17Mila, you're in.
39:18You can leave the runway.
39:24Anthony, Jonathan, one of you will be out.
39:29Anthony, this was yet another simple cocktail dress.
39:34Your print was very safe.
39:35And again with the excuses.
39:38You don't need to point out your mistakes.
39:41We do see them.
39:44Jonathan, despite your protests, this look was bizarre and quite sad.
39:49We appreciate that you take risks, but this was a complete and utter misfire.
40:00Anthony.
40:05You're out.
40:06We will miss you.
40:07We will miss you.
40:08Thank you for everything.
40:09Jonathan, that means you're in.
40:10You can leave the runway.
40:12Jonathan, that means you're in.
40:13You can leave the runway.
40:14Jonathan, that means you're in.
40:15You can leave the runway.
40:16You can leave the runway.
40:17I think you're in.
40:26Well, thank you.
40:27You're in.
40:29Hey boo! What's going on? I think that life has taught us that you don't have to have
40:40the crown to be the queen. I don't know what song to sing, bye bye birdie, hell I don't
40:47know. Ultimately, considering where I've come from and the type of people that I grew up
40:53with, never in a million years did I think I'd be in this place. Some levity, good. Anthony,
41:03I hope you are as proud of what you've achieved as I am for you. Thank you, Tim, for everything.
41:11I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space, but I want you to think about
41:14the legacy you're going to have. You're on the cover of Mary Claire magazine. I know Tim.
41:19Woo! Y'all be good. We love you, Anthony. I got eliminated today, but I still have breath
41:27in my body to change my tomorrow, so don't cry for Anthony, honey. Matter of fact, toss back
41:34one for me. I still think that greatness awaits. Next time on Project Runway, you'll be designing
41:43for a celebrity. This person does have a little bit of a reputation for being opinionated, headstrong,
41:49and knowing what they want. And I'm glad that I'm not in your shoes. I'm sweating like a freaking
41:56pig here. It's insanity in here. Where the hell is I here? It's definitely becoming a huge pressure
42:02cooker. Designers, may I have your attention? Oh my god. I'm really shocked. All of our little
42:09worlds have just been turned upside down. I'm as stunned as you all are.
42:3920th Ann
42:40That's the biggest thing ever.
42:4120th Ann
42:43때 ,
42:45You've got us to go back in here.
42:47I really feel the only thing that doesn't matter.
