00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03This challenge will decide who goes to Fashion Week.
00:08Your challenge is to create a high-end runway look inspired by the circus.
00:17Emilio, your dress was our favorite.
00:20You're in. You're going to Bryan Park, said Theron.
00:23We appreciate that you're willing to push yourself.
00:25You're in. You're going to Fashion Week.
00:27Anthony, you still need to mature as a designer.
00:30You're out.
00:32Mila, Jay, you're also in.
00:35But only one of you will show at Fashion Week.
00:38This is Project Runway.
00:40The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
00:44An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
00:47A $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
00:52And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
00:57Congratulations, you're going to Fashion Week.
01:09Woo!
01:15I'm giving each of you $9,000 in the next four months to create a 10-piece collection to show at Fashion Week.
01:23Mila and Jay, you both will be designing collections.
01:28But only one of you will be showing at Fashion Week.
01:31We want to see more from you before we make our final decision.
01:35When we return to New York, you will choose three looks from your collection to be judged.
01:41One of you will show at the tents, and one of you will be out.
01:45Now let's bring out someone that you all have grown very close to.
01:50It's a little old me.
01:52Hi!
01:53Hi!
01:54Heidi!
01:55Designers, I just want to tell you how extraordinarily, exceptionally proud I am of each of you.
02:04Look where you are!
02:05And I also want to tell you that before you know it, I'm going to be paying each of you a visit to check in on the progress of your collection.
02:13Alright.
02:14Alright?
02:15Good luck!
02:16And I can't wait to see you at Fashion Week.
02:25Jay and I both have really strong points of view, I think, that generally speaking come across in what we do.
02:30But, um, mine's better.
02:32I have to make sure that I beat Jay.
02:37To be in the top four, it's mind-boggling that I'm here.
02:42I know that I could beat Mila and win this competition.
02:47You're going down at Bryan Park, bitches!
02:50The first day I came here, I know what I'm doing for Bryan Park.
02:53It's gonna be another showstopper.
02:58Don't forget your purse.
03:00I definitely am going to stay to my aesthetic.
03:03And it's definitely going to be not boring.
03:06Do I think I can win Fashion Week?
03:08Hey, I can.
03:10This is it.
03:11Bye.
03:12Bye.
03:13Bye.
03:14Bye.
03:15Bye.
03:16Bye.
03:17We'll see you at Fashion Week.
03:19I'm off to check in on the collections of our final four designers.
03:35First up is Seth Aaron Henderson in Vancouver, Washington.
03:38Surprise!
03:39Oh, Tim!
03:40How are you?
03:41I'm great.
03:42How are you doing?
03:43Tim's here.
03:44Here it is.
03:45Are these all new pieces for the collection?
03:47Yes.
03:48I did a total of 15 already.
03:49My God!
03:50I'm marveling at the sheer volume.
03:52My goal is to take at least 20 outfits with me in New York and edit there.
03:56I've never seen anything like this in Project Runway history.
03:59I don't just want to win.
04:01I want to stomp the competition.
04:03I kind of like the look of some skin showing, but really covered.
04:08Oh, it's beautiful.
04:09This is my long coat belt.
04:11It doesn't have to be on there because it does fully snap.
04:14This is one of the first pieces I did.
04:17I love this coat.
04:19Those are pockets.
04:20This underneath.
04:22I think it's a great piece.
04:24This dress.
04:25A sweater.
04:26Can I say something?
04:29Yeah.
04:30You could show all this at Bryan Park.
04:33It will look beautiful.
04:34It will look cohesive.
04:36People who don't know your work will be on their feet.
04:39But you're not going to win.
04:43We've had so many designers show at Bryan Park who've had fabulous collections,
04:48but it didn't surprise the judges.
04:50It was the work that they were doing for the challenges.
04:53And I see the zipper details, for instance, and I know that's a signature of yours.
04:57But if you want to win this, you've got to stretch.
05:02You've got to reach beyond what we already have seen from you.
05:05There's no surprise here.
05:08This is classic Seth Aaron.
05:10Should I show some of that in my collection, though?
05:14I mean, from where I stand, I'd like you to reconceptualize the whole thing.
05:21Between now and Bryan Park, I would expect most of this to go away.
05:29Wow.
05:30I wasn't expecting a complete start over.
05:32You just have to find another level of you.
05:35Half my money's gone.
05:37More than half my time's gone.
05:39So that something new and unexpected emerges, yet we still know it's Seth Aaron.
05:44I know you are capable of this, which is why I'm pushing you.
05:48All right?
05:51So you'll do it.
05:55Cool.
05:56Well, my wife and kids are dying to meet you.
05:58You still want me to meet them?
06:00Yeah.
06:01After all this?
06:02I've been going, like, 1,001 miles an hour.
06:05But maybe I need to wipe the slate clean, chill out, and just really think and start over.
06:13So Megan and Aaron, your dad's going to Bryan Park, and you're going with him.
06:16How do you feel about it?
06:18Excited.
06:20I told all the kids where I have to go to counseling to know how to deal with this.
06:24Tina, how did the two of you meet?
06:25He was the boy next door.
06:26Is that right?
06:27Yeah.
06:28Oh.
06:29Being away from my family is the most difficult thing I've ever done.
06:32I did it for them as well as me.
06:34Ready?
06:35Go.
06:36Our goal now is to get to L.A.
06:38Eyeglasses.
06:39Draw, draw, draw.
06:40Balloons.
06:41Fallopian tube.
06:43Winning this would definitely allow me to pack up and create a better life.
06:48Tethoscope.
06:50Now I see it.
06:53Well, that was fun.
06:54I got something special in mind for you.
06:56You do?
06:57What is it?
06:58Pop a gun's on the tramp.
06:59The Hendersons are trying to kill me.
07:01Dude.
07:02I did it.
07:03Yeah.
07:05I got Tim to jump on our trampoline and to see him interact with my kids.
07:09Man, it's just awesome.
07:11All right.
07:12Parting words for you.
07:13I want you to think hard.
07:15I want you to reflect.
07:16Slow and steady wins the race.
07:18Damn.
07:19Take care.
07:20Work hard.
07:21I got to get to work.
07:22Bye.
07:24Whew.
07:31Next, I'm visiting Emilia Sosa in New York City.
07:34It's amazing, isn't it?
07:35It is amazing.
07:36A lot of people don't ever get to see it from this angle.
07:38I'm looking forward to Tim meeting my brothers because the most important thing in my life
07:42is my family.
07:43Nicholas.
07:44Nick, nice to meet you.
07:45How are you?
07:46Hi, Felipe.
07:47Nice to meet you, too.
07:48So how are you feeling about your brother and his achievements?
07:50Proud of him.
07:51He's, you know, he...
07:52How proud.
07:53Very proud.
07:54Trust me, Tim, when I tell you, Emilia has the hardest worker that I've known.
07:57We learned our work ethic came from our parents.
07:59My dad came from the Dominican Republic with only one relative in New York.
08:04My father was a janitor.
08:06My mother worked in a factory for 30 years so my brothers and I could have a better future.
08:11We grew up in the South Bronx throughout the 70s and 80s.
08:14Tim, it wasn't easy.
08:18My environment was a very urban, lower-income, tough neighborhood.
08:23But I saw beauty in the ruins.
08:26I saw a graffiti, bright, brash color.
08:30The birth of hip-hop was in my neighborhood.
08:33And that would always be ingrained in my aesthetic.
08:37Bye, gentlemen.
08:38Thank you so much.
08:40It's fighting against the odds to create what you want to create.
08:43Well, Emilio, you have a lot of work done.
08:45I've been working hard.
08:46I'm halfway there.
08:47I was inspired by color.
08:48I can see that.
08:49That's the way I start.
08:51It's refreshing.
08:52You know what?
08:53I believe people think full of the line.
08:55You see a lot of black, a lot of gray.
08:58I'm thinking of turquoise with red.
09:01And I fell in love with this odd, I don't know what color to call it.
09:07Is the whole collection an odd to the 40s?
09:10A touch.
09:11A touch.
09:12But then the color brings it to a whole other level.
09:16I created a print.
09:18It's a camouflage with my initials.
09:21It's my name.
09:22This is what the print looks like now.
09:27For the first time, I think Tim Gunn is actually speechless.
09:30I call it spray-painted brocade.
09:33The epaulettes, little side zippers, it gets lost in this fabric.
09:37I'm not designing a line for the cameras.
09:40I'm designing a line for my client.
09:42Let me put it this way.
09:43The judges are going to watch these looks walk that runway.
09:46That's going to be their experience with your collection.
09:49And that experience is going to determine whether or not you win this.
09:53I made a very strong showing throughout the season.
09:57Indeed you did.
09:59And they understand that.
10:00But you cannot go into this thinking that that's going to...
10:04I'm not going into it, but I'm not going to go into it like,
10:06oh, I'm not going to do a detail that I want in a jacket because they won't see it.
10:09Look, here's my point.
10:10Here's my point.
10:11What is your point?
10:12The point is you don't have a lot of time left.
10:13Right.
10:14You still have a lot of work to do.
10:15Right.
10:16And I'm saying, I don't know that this is worth your time.
10:18That's all.
10:19But you do whatever you want to do.
10:20You just do it.
10:21Okay.
10:22I'm creating a collection for women.
10:25And as far as I know, Tim doesn't wear women's clothing.
10:28I see a serious absence of sophistication in this work.
10:33And I see clothes that look, frankly, old.
10:37Okay.
10:38It's going to have my name on it.
10:39It's not going to have Tim Gunn's name on it.
10:41I see the big picture in my head.
10:43All right.
10:44Do it.
10:45Thank you, sir.
10:46But I'm confident that when it's done, this collection is going to blow everyone's socks
10:51off.
10:52Get exhausted.
10:53Get out.
10:54Go.
10:55I'll see you in Bryant Park.
10:58Coming up on Project Runway.
11:00Can I tell you what struck me when I first looked at this?
11:03Conservative, a little matron-ly.
11:05Dude, what?
11:06What is this?
11:07We're running out of time.
11:08Who is it?
11:09Jay.
11:10I don't want to lose to that little .
11:11Next, I'm visiting Mila Hermanofsky in rainy Los Angeles.
11:25I'm really excited to show Tim my designs.
11:33At this point, I'm not focusing on the three looks that I will be showing the judges.
11:39This is Ziggy.
11:40Hi, Ziggy.
11:41I'm just going to build all ten looks, and I'm just going to pull them from there.
11:44I started off with this concept of shadows.
11:47It is all about shadows.
11:49It is all about shadows.
11:50Now, shadows can be very graphic, or they can be soft, and they can be evocative, even
11:56sinister.
11:57So are you sticking to black and white in the collection?
11:59There is black and white, but there's also...
12:00Of course there is.
12:01Of course.
12:03What my intent is, is to introduce this aubergine color.
12:07I'm just being perfectly one about it.
12:08It's a black and white collection with a few spots of color.
12:11However, it's you.
12:14I know that I'm taking a risk by not showing very much color.
12:19Yeah, beautiful.
12:20Beautiful.
12:21But I'm completely committed to it.
12:23This was the struggle design, you know, that I fell in love with the fabric.
12:28It fits really nicely, but I feel like it's sort of a conservative fit.
12:33Can I tell you what struck me when I first looked at these?
12:36Just that word.
12:38Conservative.
12:39Even going a little matronly.
12:42Dude, what?
12:43I mean, matronly?
12:45No, no, no, no, no.
12:46Look how chic and fabulous you are.
12:48And that's what these need to exude.
12:50My design aesthetic is not as in your face as some of the others.
12:55This was going to be black patent leather.
12:56I love the patent leather idea.
12:57Oh, good.
12:58I love it.
12:59But as long as I own it...
13:00I can see people wearing this.
13:02And I'm ready to defend it.
13:03It's beautiful.
13:04You know, I can't go wrong.
13:06That first day in New York, you're standing up basically against Jay.
13:11Mm-hmm.
13:12How do you feel about that?
13:13Where my head is at is I'm going to Bryant Park.
13:16Right.
13:17I don't want to lose to that little .
13:20I mean, he's...
13:23I don't know.
13:24He's a designer and I just think that he's really annoying and he can't win.
13:30No way.
13:31Guess who's here?
13:32Hi.
13:33This is my dad, Del.
13:34Hi, Del.
13:35And this is my mom, Carol.
13:36Hi, Carol.
13:37Nice to meet you.
13:38The support that my parents and my boyfriend, Matthew, are giving me, it really makes me
13:42feel special.
13:43So I have to ask your mother and your father, we're sitting in a black and white house,
13:48black clad, Mila and Matthew, our adorable Ziggy, black and white.
13:54Was Mila always like this?
13:55It shows up early on.
13:57I mean, she was always dressed to the nines, as I recall, you know.
14:02And then she was in her goth period, I call it, when she was all black.
14:06Oh, goodness.
14:07All black.
14:08But I always thought Mila needs to be the designer.
14:12Even though I have been a costumer in TV and film for the last 12 years, I never gave
14:18up this dream.
14:19When I started off my career in fashion, I felt like when I have my own line, which I
14:24will one day, it will be when I feel like it's time and I'm ready.
14:28I've been given a second shot at living my dream of being a fashion designer.
14:33But to see her get back into the creative process and actually making things, you know,
14:38I saw a wonderful sparkle in her eye.
14:40It was wonderful.
14:41I'm this close to that opportunity.
14:43I'm so close I can taste it.
14:45Well, I cannot wait to see you in New York.
14:47I have one shot and it's do or die.
14:49Take care.
14:50Thank you, Tim.
14:51Bye.
14:52Finally, I'm visiting Jay Nicholas Sourio in San Francisco.
15:07Hey!
15:08How are you?
15:09So great to see you.
15:11Great to see you too.
15:13So talk to me.
15:14My inspiration is the Japanese samurai.
15:17I love the colors, the texture and things that are kind of like sticking out of the costume.
15:23I love the juxtaposition of the samurai and the geisha.
15:26I like to combine soft and hard things together.
15:28So the collar, it creates that, you know, additional softness.
15:31Once you build up the volume and the collar, does everything else disappear?
15:35It might.
15:36I think the most interesting part is the skirt.
15:38I mean, I do too.
15:39I've seen...
15:40This is where you want the eye to go.
15:41Yes, I get that.
15:42Moving on to this piece, I wanted to make an outerwear that's very dramatic.
15:48Where is this person going?
15:53Nowhere.
15:54Shouldn't that big dramatic statement also be able to walk the red carpet?
15:58I mean, shouldn't Heidi be able to say, I want that for the Oscars?
16:03All right, what's next?
16:05So my kimono jacket.
16:07This is wool and alpaca.
16:11Well, let me...
16:12Let's just talk about the bodice aspect.
16:14I think it's a knockout.
16:16Ah!
16:17I love everything about it.
16:19I love this wrap.
16:20I love the color.
16:21I love the fabric.
16:22Now...
16:23Oh my god.
16:24Qu'est-ce que ce?
16:25What is this?
16:26The sleeve.
16:28When it gets gimmicky like that, I fear it gets too much like student work.
16:34When Tim says student work, I want to vomit.
16:38I don't want my collection to look for it.
16:40I don't want my collection to look like I've tried so hard to create drama.
16:46You and Mila are going up against each other.
16:49We are.
16:50I'm not worried about that part.
16:51You aren't?
16:52Why not?
16:53I feel like I have the ball on my side.
16:57I don't have to worry about Mila.
16:58I already know I'm going to beat her, so it's fine.
17:02I love the vest, but it's a matter of what you show it with.
17:06But I still have to go and compete with Seth and Emilio.
17:09And I sort of have to go back and redo some of these pieces running out of time.
17:15There's so many wonderful things happening in there, and then it just goes a little cuckoo.
17:19It's cuckoo Chanel, girl.
17:21My parents are here.
17:25Oh, wonderful.
17:26And my aunt and my partner, Rolando.
17:28I can't wait to meet your family.
17:29They're cooking right now.
17:31This is my place.
17:33Jay, you take these steps so spryly.
17:36Hi, Mom.
17:37Hi, Rolo.
17:38Me too.
17:39Hi.
17:40How are you?
17:41Nice to meet you.
17:42Rolando, thank you.
17:43Hi.
17:44Hi.
17:45How are you?
17:46I'm fine.
17:47I only see you on TV.
17:49You know, these are the people that are very supportive of what I do.
17:53My aunt, Perez.
17:54Hi, Tim.
17:55Welcome to San Francisco.
17:56I'm thrilled to be here.
17:57And my dad.
17:58Hello.
17:59My dad, he has no idea what Fashion Week is, but I know that he's really proud of me.
18:03I can sew dresses to enhance.
18:06And she taught me how.
18:09When I was a kid growing up in the Philippines, my parents had to work two jobs in order for
18:15me to be able to finish school.
18:16Your first time to eat Filipino?
18:18Yes.
18:19Delicacy.
18:20Delicious.
18:21Thank you so much.
18:22I felt guilty that I'm making them work so hard just so that I could fulfill my dream.
18:27Your perseverance, your courage, and determination have molded you to an amazing fashion designer.
18:35I'll pray for you so your dreams will come true.
18:39Thanks, Mom.
18:40If I win Project Runway, it's not just my life that's going to change.
18:46I just want to be able to pay my, you know, my parents back because they've worked so hard.
18:52Their whole entire life, I just want to give them the things that they've never had in life.
18:57Intensious.
18:58Jay, if you can dream it, you can do it.
19:01To Jay.
19:02To Jay.
19:03Woo!
19:04To Jay.
19:05To Jay.
19:06It feels amazing to be back in New York.
19:18I'm going up against Jay for the third seat in the finalists that get to show at Bryant Park.
19:24My adrenaline is going.
19:26I want to show my entire collection.
19:27I don't just want to show three pieces.
19:31I'm the first one here.
19:32What?
19:33Oh, my God.
19:34It's beautiful.
19:35I've never been in anything close to this kind of place.
19:39I feel really lucky that we're staying here.
19:40I guess this is what it's like at the top.
19:42I'm really happy to be back in New York City, but I still have to fight for this third spot against Mila.
19:52But I think the judges are going to gravitate more to what I'm going to show to them because I'm current.
19:59I'm innovative.
20:00I'm everything that a new fashion designer wants to be.
20:04Who is it?
20:05Jay.
20:06Jay and I didn't have much of a relationship for the majority of the season.
20:11How's it going?
20:12Good.
20:13How are you?
20:14I can sense immediately that he's feeling awkward.
20:17Are we going to be roommates?
20:19Um, wow.
20:20I guess so.
20:23Coming up on Project Runway.
20:25You will have three hours to get ready for your presentation.
20:28Are you kidding me?
20:30He's got color.
20:31Not good for me.
20:32The shin guards won't zip all the way up.
20:34This is it.
20:35We're going down to the runway.
20:41It's so weird talking to you.
20:45Why?
20:46I don't know.
20:47Like, we never really talked.
20:48No.
20:49Like, even when we partnered together.
20:50Like, we never talked.
20:51Before coming to New York, I've been thinking, how am I going to approach Mila?
20:55How am I going to talk to her when I see her?
20:57I know I'm a little hard on the outside before I get to know people.
21:01I don't know about you, but, like, when you're under such intense pressure.
21:04You're in the moment.
21:05You're in the moment.
21:06And I get, I mean, everybody reacts differently.
21:08And everybody has their own, like, defense mechanisms and, you know.
21:11Yeah.
21:12It's nice to see the side of you, to be honest with you.
21:15Thanks.
21:16I'm really not such a bad guy.
21:18It's crazy having this conversation.
21:19Are you surprised?
21:20It's a little intense.
21:21It's nice.
21:22It is.
21:23It's nice.
21:24It's sort of cathartic.
21:26She's still my competition at the end of the day.
21:30I still have to be competitive, so I need to rise above the drama that we went through
21:35in order for me to survive this and win this.
21:41Hello.
21:42What?
21:43I'm ready for Bryant Park.
21:45I'll be going.
21:46How's it going?
21:47Ah!
21:48I listened to what Tim said.
21:49I'm really confident in my collection.
21:51It's definitely something they haven't seen from me.
21:54But at the same time, they're going to know exactly whose it is.
21:57Is this what they call the heaven, um, the heavenly bed?
22:01It looks heavenly to me.
22:02Yeah.
22:03I wonder where Emilio is.
22:06Hi, Emilio!
22:08Surprise!
22:09Yeah.
22:10Were you guys hiding from me?
22:12What came out of that home visit with Tim,
22:15was not to make the collection too old.
22:17The collection that Tim will see at Bryant Park
22:20is not the collection that he saw hanging on the rack.
22:22You look good.
22:23You look slimmer.
22:24What happened?
22:25I told him when he lost two pounds.
22:26I told him when he lost two pounds.
22:27I told him back.
22:28Bitch, what you do?
22:29You okay?
22:30I didn't do anything.
22:31I had my normal set up.
22:32Wow.
22:33Mila!
22:34Tim!
22:35How are you?
22:36Good.
22:37Great to see you.
22:38To give you a fashion kiss.
22:39Fashion kiss.
22:40So, what are you doing, Aaron?
22:41Jay?
22:42Sam!
22:43Co-excited are you?
22:44Co-excited are you?
22:46Co-excited are you?
22:47Co-excited are you?
22:48Co-excited are you?
22:49Co-excited are you?
22:50Co-excited are you?
22:51Co-excited are you?
22:52Co-called show- exposed
22:54Emilio, how are you?
22:55Good to see you.
22:56Well, I am thrilled, thrilled, thrilled, thrilled,
22:57to be with all of you.
22:58And how exciting is this?
22:59I want to officially welcome you to the Western New York
23:01Square and the presidential suite how fabulous is this is this not incredible and you're about two
23:07blocks from Bryant Park where Emilio and Seth Aaron we know you're going to be showing and Mila
23:13and Jay you're going to be battling it out and as you probably deduced tomorrow morning you're
23:22gonna be in the workroom so enjoy tonight and enjoy your Weston heavenly bed because it may
23:28be the only night you're in it and keep in mind too only three of you are going to be in the suite
23:33all week all right let's pop a bottle of champagne and have a toast to all four of you may the best
23:46designer win I can't wait to hit the workroom tomorrow I am so close to my dream this would
23:56be something so fantastic that would change my life ladies first Wow this is a workroom
24:13there's only three spaces oh you guys gotta fight it out we're sharing a table for God's sake
24:20wow there's not a whole lot of space here it's frustrating this is gonna be a tight space yes it
24:26is good thing we're talking to each other now right oh look it's Tim good morning designers
24:33welcome to the blue fly workspace in the 1407 Broadway building just to recap Seth Aaron and
24:41Emilio you are moving forward to Fashion Week and Mila and Jay the two of you will be competing for a
24:48space at New York Fashion Week and you will be presenting your three strongest looks to the judges
24:54who will determine which one of you will move forward and the judges decision will be made today
25:00are you kidding me I had no idea it was gonna be like bam straightaway this morning first thing so
25:13for the two of you this is a runway day you will have three hours to fit your models and send them
25:19to hair and makeup and get ready for your presentation I'm gonna be sending in your muse models very
25:25shortly and your two other models for your two other looks have been pre-assigned to you so go go go
25:31oh my god this is crazy it's crazy I mean three hours to go through fittings when I've really not seen my
25:40clothes on people before I'm gonna die we're showing today I'm like shaking I'm so nervous now so undress
25:51let's try some stuff on you what I'm concerned about is the center of the centering of the bands the
26:06shin guards won't zip all the way up Britney's legs this is a key piece that I want to show the judges
26:12it's the only accessory I've designed for the collection I see Jay's looks kind of out of the
26:19corner of my eye and he's got color okay not good for me Mila and Jay I'm sending you and your models
26:29to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room in the Garnier hair salon and when you return from hair and makeup you'll
26:35be prepping your models for the runway so use the bluefly.com wall very thoughtfully I want to do
26:43a pullback and then maybe just pull really clean and then pull it all the way here and then I want
26:50to braid it I want it as clean and polished as possible because I'm feeling insecure about the lack
26:58of color in my three looks I decide that I'm going to show some color in there in the models faces and
27:05and through the makeup I would love if you could do like a smoky strong aubergine eye aubergine colors
27:12really gonna blend beautiful over the cheek oh that's beautiful let the games begin exactly designers
27:19and models and Mila and Jay specifically in five minutes we're going down to the runway I'll be back
27:26thank you this is it we're getting our outfits on I get chills when I think about the fact that I am
27:33this close to being at Bryant Park this is this was a dream of mine almost 20 years ago that's your
27:41little bitchy bolero designers and models this is it we're going down to the runway for me to not be
27:49able to make it through this round I would be so devastated because it's I've worked so hard for it
27:55I've had dreams about this collection walking the runway at Bryant Park I can't imagine not going
28:03forward here we go coming up on project runway who do you want to see a new fashion week oh I don't
28:13know it's a tough one guys hello hi hi Jay Mila welcome back to New York and welcome back to the
28:27runway thank you the two of you are here to compete for the final spot at fashion week we asked you to
28:34choose the three strongest looks from your collections for us to judge today we will determine which one of
28:40you will be out and which one of you will go to Mercedes-Benz fashion week all right let's say
28:45hello to the judges top American designer Michael Kors hey guys hi and fashion director for Marie Claire
28:51magazine Nina Garcia both of you are very talented otherwise you would not be sitting here we really
28:59believe in you and we hope that you blow us away today all right let's start the show my collection it's
29:13very much my point of view that the judges have seen but there's also a few surprises thrown in there
29:29there's the Mila that we know and love and there's something that we didn't expect from her
29:46there's an innovation factor to in my collection every single piece is editorial exciting they're just
30:03so fresh they're just so new fashion designers they need to move things forward not backwards and I
30:22have what it takes to do that Jay Mila one of you will be showing at Mercedes-Benz fashion week
30:40and one of you will be out let's bring out your models
30:46my inspiration is the shadow mysterious and the shapes that shadows create light and dark patterns
30:59and this is what I came up with I actually like those three pieces it definitely shows your design
31:05they're all different but still they're cohesive I would want to wear all of these pieces because
31:10they're all simple but with a little twist she walked out I'm like not only is the look
31:15very Mila she's kind of made up to look very Mila it's got a very 60s vibe to it and I like that
31:24I know they're your clothes but the toughest thing in the world is when you have a look which is great but
31:31at the same time there has to be a surprise that's a tricky thing to get it to look less retro I think
31:39the girls need to look a little rougher their hair and makeup could look edgier and I think you have
31:45to think about how a modern girl wants to get dressed that's really important but the construction on the
31:51clothes looks fantastic I love that you thought about separates that's very smart but I'd love to see you
31:59push a little more on the modern side I'm not surprised to see black and white because I know that
32:04you use a lot of black and white but I wonder what would happen when you would have to do six
32:11collections a year how are you going to make so many collections with that just very narrow point of
32:18view I do want you to know that there is a little bit of color in my 10 look collection all right did
32:24you make those gloves I designed them and I had them made they're great thank you I think the gloves are a
32:29styling thing that actually does have some bite and some edge and makes them look a little bit more
32:35modern I had the rings made too out of steel the jewelry is fantastic yeah great the cowl neck is
32:43that part of the coat or that's an accessory that I made it looks great I even like it better with that
32:49the statement is very you and congratulations Jay the Japanese samurai became my inspiration but I
32:57wanted to feminize it instead of creating all these kind of like masculine details I have to say you
33:02really pumped up the volume this time thank you that's that's what I wanted to do I think this black
33:07trouser she's wearing is fabulous I love the dress I think there's a lot of work in these clothes I love all
33:13the pleating the seeming I love these gaiters that she has on I see the side they're great I love that
33:21the gaiters and the pants pull it together smart move thank you I think Jay you always have excellent
33:28tailoring it is great that you are innovative you have a great pant there but then you have that silver
33:36shirt and then you have that weird thing here it's a lot and at the end of the day you want it to be
33:44elegant you want one standout piece you don't need a whole bunch of standout pieces because that's only
33:49going to compete my favorite look is this look because it's the cleanest yes you've decorated it
33:57and it's tailored but it's clean you gotta edit down I have to say I like what you did you really
34:04designed and you thought about it I love this dress you know I love short dresses you'd wear that dress in
34:10a lot for sure I love these chin garters they should be up to here and then they should be
34:15attached to the car about only if you're Heidi Klum I'm not a hundred percent sure how quick he said it
34:22is because there's a lot of different fabrics and a lot of different design ideas happening at the same
34:26time you know the other thing that I have to say that I admire there's nothing about these clothes
34:33that's retro at all zero these are not clothes that could have happened in any other time and
34:42what happened with the gloves did you guys call each other on the gloves you said let's do gloves we
34:45didn't really talk before this by the way at all even throughout the challenges and we managed to sort
34:52of get rid of the drama and focus on what's important so you hated each other for the whole
34:56process and now you're dear standing here now we're sharing a room hey welcome to the fashion
35:04world and now you're fighting for the last spot at Mercedes Benz fashion week how lovely I think that
35:10you two made it really hard for us to judge today very both of you these clothes are made beautifully all
35:20right we're gonna have a little chat and then I'm gonna bring you back you can leave the runway thank
35:25you guys I would love to know from everyone now who do you want to see at New York fashion week
35:39Jay I think Mila I'm on the fence both Mila and Jay have something to say as designers when I look at Mila
35:50the clothes that she showed us today were beautifully constructed well designed beautifully made but it's
35:57straightforwardly retro and it's not even a question of the black and white but can she really
36:04surprise you yes surprises I don't think it's necessarily wrong to do 60s retro if you have
36:11your own twist to it which she does I do have to say Jake he had some spot-on pieces he had some
36:20really fabulous ideas and yeah that dress was perfect the leather gaiters that were worn with
36:28you're fantastic I have to say my least favorite was the jacket that Brittany was wearing yes I mean
36:33that was overworked kill the jacket I'll kill the jacket all together well there's a fabulous Yiddish
36:39word called unga pochkin unga pochkin unga pochkin it means it's like too much overly decorated
36:46unga pochkin unga pochkin for sure I'm worried that Jay will look over designed and I think that Mila
36:54will be classy to the point there's one thing though that you have to remember it's better to
37:01start with too much and reduce and edit but we're not starting we're at the end this is the slot you're
37:09going to new fashion week or you're not going tonight fashion week seriously if you took those
37:14black you're redesigning right now well that's what designers do I'm changing it until 10 minutes
37:20he is supposed to be the designer do not redesign oh I don't know it's a tough one guys because this
37:27is really about curiosity are we curious to see more do they have more to say I think I might be
37:35turning around so have we made our decision yes yeah all right let's bring them back out
37:50Mila Jay one of you be showing at fashion week and one of you will be out
38:07both of you have done a really great job and this was a really tough decision you both can be very
38:31proud Mila the looks that you showed us were impeccable they also showed us your very distinct
38:40point of view as a designer while we were impressed we're a little bit worried that your line might be
38:45one note into retro Jay you had some very intriguing and fashion forward ideas which showed us that you're
38:56very innovative but your work seemed over designed you just tried to do maybe too much the final
39:04question that we had to ask ourselves was which one of you is more ready to show up Brian Park this week
39:10who do we want to see more of Mila
39:16congratulations you're going to fashion week
39:26thank you so much thank you so much this means the world to me I'm sorry Jay that means you're out
39:40thank you guys so much it means a lot to me the feedback you guys gave me
39:53I'll take it and I'll be a better designer
39:59great designer
40:04I'm numb I'm shocked to find out that I'm no longer going to Brian Park
40:14well I'm out
40:16oh sorry don't cry puppy don't cry

40:31I understand congratulations thank you you can leave the runway
40:36this just means it just means the world to me
40:42it just means that I'm one step closer to my dream coming true that I've always had being a fashion designer
41:00and creating
41:02that was a fabulous fabulous presentation by both of you I am just extraordinarily proud and it could have gone either way
41:12being on project runway I consider it as a validation
41:18so Jay I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space
