00:01Previously on Project Runway,
00:04your next challenge is to create a kid's look.
00:07I am scared of children.
00:12Do y'all have an off switch?
00:13I have a nice surprise for you.
00:15A corresponding look for your model.
00:23Seth Aaron, both of your looks were fantastic.
00:26You are the winner of this challenge.
00:29The whole combination is awful.
00:31It looks like a cheap mall outfit.
00:33I'm sorry, Janine, that means you're out.
00:38Jay, Megan and Brittany are left on the runway.
00:41You choose which one of them will be in
00:43and which one will be out.
00:45I chose Brittany.
00:47I'm sorry, Megan, that means you're out.
00:50This is Project Runway.
00:51Yes!
00:52I am fashion. Look at me.
00:54It's cut or be cut.
00:55Just make it work.
00:57Great clothes.
00:58Great style.
00:59Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:02They won't do anything to win.
01:03I will.
01:04But only one can be the winner.
01:07My weapon of choice.
01:08For these 16 designers,
01:10Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:13The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie-Claire magazine.
01:17An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:20The $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:26And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:30Top 10 designers.
01:31There you go.
01:32Woohoo!
01:33Yes!
01:34Halfway to Bryant Park.
01:35Now it's really serious competition.
01:36Now it's when all the stops have to be pulled out.
01:37Might be a two day challenge.
01:38I'm ready for this one.
01:39Jay!
01:40Top 10!
01:41This is insane!
01:42From the very beginning I was so nervous that I'm gonna go home first.
01:43Hit the shower!
01:44You hit the shower!
01:49I just have to knock down 7 more people,
01:56and then top 3 is gonna be all good.
01:58Hit the shower,
01:59hit the shower,
02:01hit the shower,
02:02hit the shower,
02:06hit the shower.
02:07I just have to knock down 7 more people,
02:09And then top three here I come, bitches.
02:13I'm ready to move on to the next challenge.
02:16Yeah.
02:17On one hand, I feel like it's kind of a bummer that so many women have gone home.
02:21But on the other hand, it's a little bit empowering to think that Amy and Maya and I are the strongest women here.
02:28Leave is four.
02:29Return is three.
02:32Oh, four.
02:35Grab your verse.
02:36Got it, guys.
02:39Got it, guys.
02:47Hello.
02:48Hi.
02:49It's time for your next challenge.
02:51There are only ten of you left, so the competition is heating up.
02:56Seth Aaron, you won the last challenge, so therefore you have immunity for this week.
03:01Cool.
03:02For your next challenge, I'm sending you on a little trip to meet Tim
03:06and one of America's favorite designers.
03:09And they will give you all of the tools you will need for the next challenge.
03:14Good luck.
03:14And I'll see you on the runway.
03:16Bye.
03:17Bye, Heidi.
03:18Bye.
03:22So Heidi says we're going to meet America's favorite designer.
03:25Tim and that designer are going to give us the tools to complete our look.
03:32Oh, Lord.
03:33What are we going to be doing now?
03:35We arrive at the Michael Kors store in Soho, and it's really exciting.
03:41He's got a beautiful store.
03:43Good morning, designers.
03:44Good morning.
03:45Please say hello to a familiar face.
03:47Hi.
03:48Hey, guys.
03:49Welcome to my Soho store here in New York City.
03:52I'm very excited to talk to you guys about today's challenge.
03:55I really want to see you guys push the envelope,
03:57and I want you to think a little outside of the box
04:00and think in an unconventional way.
04:03So today, for your challenge, you are going to be shopping at a hardware store.
04:12We're going to be creating a look using materials from a hardware store,
04:16and I honestly could not be more excited.
04:19I don't feel good about this.
04:20This is not what I do.
04:22I don't make crafty things.
04:24I make very sophisticated dresses.
04:27And guys, in addition to apparel,
04:29you will be designing an accessory to complement and enhance your look.
04:34So, guys, it is so important to think about a head-to-toe look
04:38from fabulous hair and makeup down to the feet
04:41and a fabulous accessory.
04:44You know what?
04:44Get shopping.
04:45Michael, thank you so much,
04:46and they won't disappoint you, will you guys?
04:48No.
04:49All right, let's head to the hardware store.
04:51Thanks, guys.
04:51Good luck.
04:56Designers, welcome to Scheman and Grant Hardware,
04:59which is a very inspiring place.
05:01You have a budget of $150 each.
05:04You will have 35 minutes to shop,
05:07and your 35 minutes starts right now.
05:10It's here.
05:14I need someone.
05:15Hardware is not cheap.
05:18That really worries me as far as getting enough materials
05:20and getting the right materials to be able to make something spectacular.
05:24Do you want to do, like, sheets of metal?
05:25I love this challenge.
05:27I'm really excited.
05:28I have some experience working with, you know, strange objects.
05:31I've made some dresses out of screen before.
05:35Designers, you have five minutes remaining.
05:37Not only do you have to make a garment using these supplies from the hardware store,
05:40but you also have to make an accessory.
05:44Everyone has sheets of metals or things that you can buy yardage of.
05:49I went the other route.
05:50I have some washers and some cord.
05:53That's all I have.
05:55Oh, I think I'm overpunching right now.
05:57I'm going to try and make garbage bags feel like a leather material.
06:02I don't know how I'm going to accomplish that.
06:04Designers, you have one minute remaining.
06:07That's it.
06:08Scream for help.
06:10The first thing that pops into my head is sandpaper.
06:13Just because of the different textures and the different colors,
06:16I think it's going to be perfect to use for a challenge like this.
06:20All right, designers, that's it.
06:22No more shopping.
06:23Time's up.
06:26Oh, wait, no, you got two of these yourself?
06:27Oh, then you don't have enough.
06:29I realize that I'm way over budget,
06:31and I have to leave half of my cord and half of my washer,
06:35so I'm working with less material,
06:38and I have to make it happen.
06:39It's just one of those challenges.
06:41It can go any way.
06:42All right, designers, let's head back to Parsons.
06:45Thank you, Shaman and Grant.
06:46Shaman!
06:47All right, designers, you have until midnight tonight and precious little time tomorrow.
07:09The winner of this challenge will have immunity and therefore cannot be eliminated in the next challenge,
07:16so make it work.
07:18Okay?
07:19I can't wait to see what you do.
07:21I know that a lot of the designers are going to take the easy way out, which is to make a dress,
07:32and I want to challenge myself and come up with something that is a pair of pants that'll fit well,
07:40which is probably going to be challenging, because what can you do with a trash bag?
07:44Looking around the room, it's definitely, it's crazy.
07:49I mean, we've all got real different ideas, and we're all going for them,
07:53so you kind of hope, not in a mean way, but hope somebody crashes and burns,
07:56so then you can go, oh, all righty, I'm okay, because he's screwed.
08:02I'm making a necklace, and it's going to be a rather large necklace,
08:06which is going to be pretty heavy since it's made of keys,
08:08and it's going to be the focal point of the piece.
08:13The judges always talk about innovation,
08:15and at this point, I'm thinking that the innovative part of my garment
08:18will be taking something that is hard and industrial
08:21and giving it a very soft and airy feel.
08:26Who doesn't know what they're doing?
08:28Hey.
08:31Who's cool as me?
08:32It's a huge pain in the ass to work with hardware.
08:35You really have to spend a lot of time getting accustomed
08:37to all these wacky new materials.
08:40Ladies and gentlemen, straight off the periodic table of elements,
08:43copper.
08:44I like Jonathan because he's just so damn funny.
08:48Everything that he says is hilarious.
08:50We have a lot of fun just laughing together,
08:52and it kind of takes the stress off.
08:56I noticed that everyone else is molding bodices out of metal,
09:01and to me, that's been done.
09:03My plan of attack is to create a Paco Rabanne slash macrame dress
09:10using the washers and the cord.
09:11But I don't have enough washers or cords.
09:14I may not have a full dress.
09:17I see Emilio's piece,
09:19and I'm thinking in the back of my head,
09:20I'm like, what the hell is he making?
09:22He's making a stripper outfit.
09:24We are making spacesuits.
09:26This is fashion, honey.
09:27And stripper costumes.
09:29And stripper costumes.
09:30We've got the macrame going on.
09:33It's definitely creative.
09:35You know what?
09:36Just shut your face up.
09:37I meant that in a good way.
09:38Whatever.
09:40It is what it is.
09:43Coming up on Project Oneway.
09:46I can't believe my trunk.
09:49I was sewing it.
09:50What is it with you guys and this copper?
09:53What?
09:53It's a garbage bag.
09:54Yes.
09:55Jay.
09:56I'm going to have to move out of New York.
09:59This is looking tortured.
10:07The object of this game
10:09is to take tools from a hardware store
10:11and make something that has some wearability.
10:14It's a lot of look.
10:15There's a lot to do, yeah.
10:17I'm very frustrated today,
10:18and the pressure is mounting.
10:20Everyone is just trying to work with these materials
10:22that aren't really made to create clothing with.
10:26So much for our manicures, Maya.
10:28I had no idea what I was in store for
10:30when I got the copper,
10:31because as of right now,
10:32my hands look like I've been attacked
10:34by a feral animal.
10:36Are you color blocking the pang?
10:38Color block, take me away.
10:40I'm hoping that the judges don't get sick
10:43of my black and white element.
10:44That's always been a signature for me.
10:57There's a lot of chaos and noise.
11:00It's just not an ideal situation
11:02for me to create my best work.
11:04Is that stuff sticky?
11:07Yeah.
11:08Because I got some sticky crap here,
11:09and I'm like, oh, it's sticky.
11:11The skirt material is this mesh
11:13that when I opened it, I realized it's sticky.
11:15I wanted a nice, flowy skirt
11:17to counteract the really strict, corseted bodice.
11:20So basically, I'm screwed
11:22because this is like the largest piece of tape
11:25you've ever seen in your life.
11:26I'm making leather out of trash bags.
11:30This is a dream that I've been wanting
11:32to fulfill since I was little.
11:34I want this badly,
11:36and my parents would be so proud of me
11:38if I won Project Runway.
11:40They know that this is what I want to do in life.
11:43I'm the fifth in the family.
11:45I have a younger sister,
11:46and I remember when we were little
11:48that we've always fought for everything
11:52that we want in life.
11:54And to me, that tells a lot about me
11:57as a person and as a competitor.
12:02I was able to sew through the copper flashing.
12:06Through the who?
12:07This.
12:07You are lying.
12:10Many of us in the room
12:11are finding a way to sew our materials.
12:14So I flipped my dress inside
12:15to sew the back seam.
12:17It went in like this,
12:19and it came out like that.
12:21These materials are really starting to control me.
12:23Order $5 for a roll of duct tape,
12:25and it does not feel like it sticks to anything.
12:28The rope that I bought at the hardware store
12:31is Venetian blind cord.
12:34I'm hoping that I'll be able to sew it,
12:36and I hope that it goes through the machine,
12:38because if not,
12:39I'm going to have to do a lot of hand stitching.
12:42Hi, everybody.
12:43Hi, Jim.
12:44I feel like I'm in the arms and armor wing of the Met.
12:47All right, I'm here to check in with you.
12:49Mila.
12:50Obviously, it's very mod-inspired
12:52with the black and white,
12:53and I'm really just using
12:55paint tray liners and gaffer's tape.
12:58What's really supporting it on her?
13:00Will this sit on her hip?
13:02I might have to contour it a little bit more.
13:04What are you doing for the accessory?
13:06I'm going to do a really wide cuff.
13:09Using this as a cuff, you're saying?
13:11Uh-huh.
13:12I just like that it had text on it.
13:13Mm-hmm.
13:14Very exciting.
13:15Mila, thank you.
13:16Thank you, Tim.
13:17Jesse.
13:18Jim.
13:18So talk to me.
13:20I was thinking sort of Elizabethan, sort of, uh...
13:23Elizabethan mini?
13:25Well, I'm just...
13:27The skirt is a work in progress.
13:29So are you going to cover all this text on?
13:32I don't know, uh...
13:33This is looking so school project, school play.
13:38Not even high school or college,
13:39like elementary school.
13:45What is it with you guys in this copper?
13:47This is all hand-seamed with metal wire.
13:51You'd never know.
13:53What are you doing for the accessory?
13:55I was thinking of doing a hairpiece.
13:57All right.
13:57A little cap, kind of.
13:58Something that would, like, comb up the back of the head
14:00into the top, into the crown.
14:01Sort of that Dior, old-school, really odd, crazy hat kind of thing.
14:05Just watch the costume aspect of the whole thing.
14:09Thank you, Jesse.
14:10Thanks, Tim.
14:12Tim, how are you?
14:13What are you doing?
14:15I am creating intergalactic macrame flapper something.
14:21What is it?
14:22A miniskirt?
14:23A miniskirt.
14:23Is it a bikini?
14:24Miniskirt.
14:25And do you have enough of the hardware?
14:27I hope so.
14:29I don't know.
14:30You may end up with a bikini.
14:32I can't, because last time, one of my dresses was too short.
14:36I have to work it out, Tim, honestly.
14:37I just...
14:39This is a doozy.
14:40Well, your innovation can be the presentation of a bottomless dress.
14:44Okay.
14:48Thank you, Tim.
14:49Tim.
14:49I knew by the color it was you.
14:51What are you doing?
14:52I think I'm probably going to just keep my structure at the top,
14:54but explore some different things at the bottom,
14:56because I'm not officially impressed with the way this has turned out so far.
15:00The fact that you can see that...
15:02Well, that's why I only did half.
15:03This looks tortured.
15:04Trying to just manipulate it through that machine,
15:07it just took a turn for horror.
15:08It's not pretty.
15:09Tim's visit confirmed what I already am trying to do anyway.
15:13I think that we're on the same page, Tim.
15:14We are on the same page.
15:16All right.
15:16And that's really just abandoning the original skirt
15:18and moving forward with something that's light and airy
15:21and where the fabric just won't look as tortured.
15:25So, Jay.
15:26Hi.
15:27We went to a hardware store to shop.
15:29How did you make a pair of leather pants?
15:31Right?
15:32This is what I came up with.
15:34Well, this, it's garbage bag.
15:36What is it?
15:37It's a garbage bag?
15:38Yes.
15:38I mean, if I'd seen you with a box of garbage bags,
15:40I would have said,
15:41Jay, the pants are spectacular.
15:47How does she get in and out?
15:49Um, there's, well, I wanted a side zipper,
15:51but I'm going to have to sew this on her.
15:53Yeah, you will.
15:53As I'm building it, it's shrinking.
15:55At this point, it's too late.
15:57I'm just hoping it'll fit her.
15:59Oh, listen, if the pant goes away because of the fit,
16:01that's a problem.
16:03Yeah, yeah.
16:04Well, what are you doing for your accessory?
16:05Maybe a belt.
16:06I think she needs a belt.
16:07But it's important, so don't let it be 11.30
16:10and then suddenly, whoops, my accessory.
16:13Yeah.
16:14All right, thank you, Jay.
16:15Okay, thank you.
16:16Maya.
16:17Hi.
16:18What are you doing?
16:19I'm intrigued.
16:19This is the collar, so it's going to go like this.
16:23And what's underneath it?
16:24Um, I've done this necklace, set of keys, and screen.
16:28That necklace is stunning.
16:31This is my accessory, and, um, I'm using screen
16:34to make a shift dress that's going to go underneath the jacket.
16:38If you can pull this off, this will be phenomenal.
16:41Cool.
16:42Yeah, I'm really excited about it.
16:43All right, I'm going to leave you.
16:44Okay.
16:45Okay.
16:45Work, work.
16:46Thank you, Maya.
16:48All right, designers, I'm going to leave you for tonight.
16:51And I have to say, you have a lot of work to do.
16:56So if there were ever a make-it-work moment,
16:58I think it's this challenge.
17:01I'm sending in your models.
17:02Thank you, everybody.
17:03Make it work.
17:07Wow, this is wackadoo stuff.
17:10So, it's all...
17:11Interesting.
17:12Yeah, it's just the stuff.
17:13My design concept is Veronica Lake meets C-3PO,
17:17and the accessory is going to be a clutch.
17:21I wish I had more time to devote to this accessory
17:24that could be the make-or-break point for this runway show.
17:26Can they not fit?
17:28Oh, my God.
17:30This is freaking me out.
17:31She can't even put her feet through the pants at this point,
17:34and I'm just livid and freaking out.
17:37I can't believe my shrunk.
17:38I was sewing it.
17:39I'm so annoyed.
17:40I feel like it'll be okay.
17:43You know what I think the look we should go for?
17:46Valley of the Dolls, 2009.
17:49Holly walks in.
17:50I don't have anything to even try on her.
17:52And I'm trying to cover a six-foot-tall, blonde Amazon woman.
17:58I thought I got enough washers that it would work,
18:01but it's not working.
18:03So, we're making a bathing suit.
18:05I am losing it.
18:06If you need me to Crisco, I will.
18:08I'm thinking I'm not going to finish.
18:17How about you?
18:18I'm going to have to move out of New York.
18:20After the hardware incident, Emilio Sosa had disappeared.
18:27I cut two-inch straps of the material that I have
18:31and put them on both sides of the pant.
18:34And I just hope that it's going to fit her
18:36when she comes back tomorrow and tries the pants again.
18:39As far as accessories,
18:41I want to come up with a really sexy belt
18:43that's going to singe Brittany in around the waist.
18:46Time to cut more squares.
18:49Ben and Jonathan both picked up the copper flashing
18:51that I picked up,
18:52and I've decided that I do have paint,
18:54so I'm definitely going to use it
18:56to transform what I've made
18:57into something that's even more than just copper flashing.
19:00But there's nothing I can do at this point.
19:03Time's been spent, and it is what it is,
19:05because at this point, there's no chance to redesign.
19:10Coming up on Project OneWay.
19:12I had to make a drastic change in our outfit.
19:15Don't freak out.
19:15How do we keep the bikini bottom up?
19:18I don't think it is done in the best of tape.
19:30You've got five minutes.
19:33It's the morning of the show,
19:34and I just can't wait for this show
19:36because it's so out of the ordinary.
19:40I'm ready for this challenge to be over.
19:42I just can't wait to use fabric again.
19:45I know.
19:45My fingers are like raw.
19:48This is a runway first.
19:49Everyone is in the bottom ten.
19:51It'd be funnier if it wasn't true.
19:53I feel comfort in the fact that we're all
19:55in a bit of a cray-cray, sort of out-there direction.
19:59There's a safety in numbers with that.
20:01You 10 had the lowest scores.
20:03Oh, my God.
20:05It's really hard to be excited this morning
20:07at the runway show
20:08because so many variables go into this kind of challenge.
20:15The dress could fall apart at any second.
20:17You're making your bed today.
20:18Oh, my God.
20:19Yes.
20:20I grew up into an adult overnight.
20:23Amazing.
20:24All right.
20:26Bloody fingers crossed.
20:28Let's go face the day.
20:30I don't want to.
20:44Do you need this again?
20:45Uh, not right this second.
20:47Actually, yes, I do.
20:48Screw sewing.
20:49Use tape.
20:51I think we've got a whole new definition of costuming.
20:54End of the workroom.
20:55Time to get things done.
20:56I taped off all the interior of my bodice
20:58so it didn't shred Alexis' shoulders
21:00and then started just going tape-happy.
21:02Good morning, designers.
21:18How is everybody?
21:21Stressed.
21:22Stressed, I know.
21:23You have a lot of work to do.
21:24I am about to send in your models.
21:27You will have an hour each to send them to the Garnier Hair Salon in the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room.
21:32Use the bluefly.com wall, and I'll be back to bring you down to the runway a little later, okay?
21:37All right, everybody.
21:38Go, go, go.
21:40Make it work.
21:41Thank you, Tim.
21:42Hey, sweetie pie.
21:48Good.
21:49I had to make a drastic change in our outfit.
21:52I had to make you a bikini.
21:55Okay.
21:56Move a little bit and see what moves when you walk.
21:59Oh, it's so cool.
22:00Just Monique herself and her, you know, hair color and skin color
22:03with the combination of the tones of the sandpaper, I think, is a really beautiful combination.
22:09I'm really excited.
22:10Let's try this on real quick.
22:11At this point, it's all about just sewing in the garment onto the model.
22:16But my problem is I'm working with a plastic garbage bag,
22:21and once you put a hole in that material, it's permanent.
22:25It's there.
22:26So she can't really go and pee.
22:28It's still tight.
22:30You'll be fine.
22:31I'm not worried.
22:32Don't freak out.
22:33Let's go.
22:39Pow.
22:45Really make it work.
23:02Oh, neat.
23:02I have put all these washers on the bikini bottom, and they were too heavy so they wouldn't
23:07stay up.
23:08We'll put the top on, and maybe I can join them together.
23:12So then we are scrambling in the last hour.
23:15How do we keep the bikini bottom up?
23:18You know, I'm thinking if I do something to tie this to there.
23:21Yeah, it could be one.
23:22Okay, but just hold on.
23:23I'm going to do it on you.
23:24Okay, that's fine.
23:25Emilio's garment, not only is it naked, I don't think that it's done in the best of taste.
23:32The one thing that never goes out of style is making a woman look like a lady.
23:36And the other person that I'm scared for is Jessie.
23:40Jessie's garment looks tortured.
23:43And not only does Jessie's garment look tortured, Seth Aaron's garment looks tortured, and so does
23:47Ben's garment.
23:49All of those garments look tortured.
23:51This is surprisingly comfortable.
23:53Designers and models, in 10 minutes, we are going down to the runway.
23:58All right, make certain you are ready.
24:00I'll be back.
24:02Carrie's able to slip into the dress.
24:04It is a little big, but I think with this kind of material, I definitely don't want any
24:08cuts or scrapes, or the last thing I want to do is physically harm my model.
24:13I feel so happy about my look.
24:16I want it to look like real fashion and not an arts and craft project.
24:19I want it to be mod rock star, and it was perfect.
24:28It was like Peggy Moffat meets Pink.
24:31Designers and models, this is it.
24:35The moment of reckoning.
24:36We're going down to the runway.
24:37Follow me, please.
24:39So the look fits Alexis great.
24:41You know, if I got to defend this thing, I'll defend it all the way to the grave.
24:45Designers and models.
24:47It's a style of work.
24:47Just take that with you.
24:49The bikini's too short.
24:51The hair's too big.
24:53The makeup's too much.
24:54Everything's to the extreme.
24:55But it's definitely a head-to-toe, fully committed look.
24:59Emilio.
25:00Yes, sir, please.
25:02If I was going to jump off the cliff, I went full throttle.
25:07Coming up on Project Runway.
25:12She looks really cheesy.
25:14I mean, that's a full cheese fest.
25:16Boring.
25:17Honestly, it looks like kind of a bad prom dress.
25:21Welcome to the runway.
25:31As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
25:36There are ten of you here, and after tonight, there will be nine.
25:38Seth Aaron, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity, and you cannot be eliminated
25:44this week.
25:44For this challenge, Michael Kors asks you to create a look and an accessory that shows
25:49innovation, creativity, and your point of view as a designer.
25:55He sends you to a hardware store, not a fabric store, to get your supplies.
26:00Okay, let's meet the judges.
26:02First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
26:05Hey, guys.
26:06Hey, guys.
26:07Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
26:11Hi, everyone.
26:12Fashion designer whose dress was worn by First Lady Michelle Obama at the President's
26:18inauguration, Isabel Toledo.
26:23And Stephen Webster, world-renowned jewelry designer.
26:26We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:32One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
26:37Okay, let's start the show.
26:42I think this piece is really representative of me as a designer.
26:46It references the past, but I think it's modern.
26:49I really push myself on this one, and it really shows the graphic nature of my work.
26:56The look floats wonderfully, and Alexis wears it really well.
27:04Whether somebody loves it or hates it, they're interested in it, and I think that's my goal
27:08ultimately with this kind of challenge, and I think I definitely succeeded in that.
27:12This dress has achieved every single thing I wanted it to.
27:17The movement around Carrie's body, the sheen of the copper under the runway lights, the harmony
27:23between the color of her and the dress is absolutely perfect.
27:26I couldn't have asked for anything better.
27:28I love this dress.
27:33It looks like fashion.
27:35It looks like fabric.
27:36It is very feminine.
27:37It is sexy.
27:39And to me, that's what fashion should be.
27:41The dress looks like it's just, like, levitating around her, which is kind of cool.
27:49Like, it's resting on her shoulders, but it doesn't touch the rest of her body.
27:52It does have a sense of futurism.
27:54It does look a little retro, too.
27:56It definitely embodies what I would have done with fabric anyway.
27:59Holly turns a corner, and literally, you can hear people's jaws drop.
28:06I don't know if it's dropped because she looks amazing, or they're thinking, what the hell
28:11just happened?
28:12It's such a strong look that either you like it or you hate it.
28:16There's no in-between.
28:18I don't think anyone on this earth would have realized that that came out of a hardware store.
28:26That's me as a designer.
28:27I have goosebumps at this point, watching her walk down the runway.
28:33I've pushed myself to come up with something amazing out of a trash bag.
28:41It's incredible.
28:42I mean, it's exactly what I was going for.
28:45There's nothing I would change.
28:47And my model, she's loving it.
28:49Really confident in what I did.
28:53So, I'm feeling awesome.
28:57The silhouette and the fit are great on her.
29:00I created a pattern that is interesting, and the usage of the sandpaper to create a kind
29:06of textile is definitely representative of how I like to work.
29:09She looks sophisticated and fashion-forward.
29:14I can see the judges, like, really studying her, and that's a good sign because I want
29:21them to wonder, what is that made of?
29:24Ben, Jonathan, Amy, Seth Aaron, please step forward.
29:36If I have called your name, congratulations.
29:39Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
29:43You can leave the runway.
29:43The rest of you represent the highest and the lowest scores.
29:53One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
29:58Let's bring out your models.
30:04Mila, tell us about your look and what it is made of.
30:07These are paint tray liners, and I was just really inspired by the glossy black and white.
30:14I knew that with this, I wanted to do something kind of mod and graphic, and I loved the texture
30:19of them.
30:20I thought it was extraordinary.
30:22The fact that you've made it flow, it's amazing.
30:25It's something that naturally is stiff, I guess, just by cutting it out.
30:29It's brilliant.
30:30And that accessory, it's definitely the wittiest accessory.
30:33I didn't know what it said, but that's brilliant.
30:35I like the transformation of the material, too.
30:37I think that's amazing.
30:39Bravo, indeed.
30:41Emilio, tell us about your look and how you made it.
30:44I wanted to create a very strong, sexy woman, so I used three different sizes of washers
30:51and twine and bolts and wire to create a bathing suit look.
30:58I want to ask Emilio, what happened?
31:01Why did you choose not to do any clothing?
31:04And I figured everyone was going to do a dress, and a swimsuit is something that you probably
31:09wouldn't associate with a hardware store.
31:11I like the full effect, because she looks like a Barbie doll, and I think you just went
31:15with it.
31:16But the simple truth is, she looks really cheesy.
31:18I mean, that's a full cheese fest.
31:21I think, thank God, you figured out to make it into a one piece.
31:24Yeah.
31:25Or you'd have a bottomless moment here on Project Runway.
31:28I can't find a pattern to it.
31:30It just looks thrown on.
31:32I like all the thoughts you had about everybody else was going to make a dress, so what else
31:37could you do? I mean, you gave a lot of thought to it, which I appreciate.
31:40Thank you very much.
31:41Anthony.
31:42Hi.
31:43Tell us about your look.
31:45I thought that my innovation for this particular challenge was taking the harsh mesh that was
31:50attacking me and finding a way to bring some softness to it.
31:54Honestly, it looks like kind of a bad prom dress.
31:59It seems too boring.
32:03You struggle to make this so pretty and so soft that you miss the point.
32:08I would have loved to have seen something that I would have thought, wow, that's genius.
32:12You should have gone with the fact that you're in a hardware store.
32:14I think, Anthony, I think you went to the software store, didn't you?
32:17Not the hardware store.
32:19Maya, tell us about your look.
32:20I wanted to create a jacket that was see-through and open weave, and this is screen, the dress
32:26is screen.
32:27I knew I had to do an accessory, and I saw these keys, and they really called out to me,
32:31and they were sort of like jewels.
32:32And I mixed them in with the chain, and the silver is actually a dog collar.
32:37This was truly a head-to-toe look.
32:40They were normal pieces looked at in an abnormal way.
32:44The jacket, the necklace, the hair, you showed restraint and just held back on the dress,
32:51and it was just the right thing to do.
32:53You would not think that this look comes out of the hardware store.
32:57If you would see this shot in Marie Claire magazine, you would not question it.
33:03Jesse, tell us about your look.
33:04So I grabbed copper flashing, which is what the bodice is made out of, and then this mesh,
33:11which is like a drywall fixer, and everything's getting cinched around the waist with some wire.
33:17It feels a little bit like the Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz.
33:20I do like the hair, it works well with the hair, so that's a good look.
33:24I think her hair with that headband is cool and modern looking.
33:30And then all of a sudden, she's dressed up as a Hershey Kiss.
33:36I don't know what she's dressed up as, but it's a costume.
33:39My favorite thing as far as the design detail, can you turn around?
33:42The asymmetry of the back and the stitching there is the only thing that a modern woman in real life would say,
33:52oh, there's something cool about that.
33:55It looks like you're going to press a button somewhere, it's going to be a big load of noise,
33:59and you start vacuuming the floor with it.
34:01So that's really the weakest part.
34:02Yeah, it looks like a dirty vacuum bag.
34:04A dirty one, yeah.
34:06Jay, tell us about your look.
34:08This is the outfit that I came up with, and it's made out of trash bags.
34:12I added the blue masking tape just to add color to it.
34:16I made this braided belt and a pair of leather pants with these pleat details going on.
34:23I think it is amazing that you made black trash bags look like that, especially the belt.
34:32It looks like a leather woven belt.
34:35It's fantastic.
34:37In a million years, I did not think that this was bias-cut trash bags.
34:43It took a lot of thinking to get to this.
34:46I have to say amazing.
34:49Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
34:51We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
34:55You can leave the runway.
34:57Let's talk about the ones that did succeed.
35:04Let's talk about Mila.
35:05I was very impressed with her garments.
35:08She really thought about this.
35:09She really thought about, you know, the challenge, and it was hard.
35:13What she picked as material was very hard.
35:17To pick this paint tray, I think that's a real vision.
35:23So then you look at someone like Jay, for example, who we also loved.
35:27If you didn't know it was garbage bags, his girl could walk off the runway and probably go out to dinner.
35:32He made a luxury product.
35:34It's sort of out of the least luxurious thing, and that thing just reeked of luxury.
35:41Let's discuss Maya.
35:42You could dissemble what she did.
35:46They were all pieces that stood on their own.
35:48It was very wearable and fashion-forward all at the same time.
35:53Maya's necklace was, hands down, the strongest accessory piece we saw on the runway today.
36:02Let's move on to the ones that we didn't like so much.
36:05What do you think about Emilio's?
36:06I think it's a bloody disaster, really.
36:09And when he said, well, I knew everyone else was going to make a dress.
36:13So, you know, oh, I'm going to be crafty and smart.
36:17I like that he actually thought, well, everybody else is going to make a dress.
36:20Now, it would have been a successful garment.
36:23That's different.
36:23Yes.
36:24It's just not his taste.
36:25Oh, cut to the chase.
36:26There was no taste.
36:27He did hit the hardware store and get hardware.
36:31I don't think it was so bad.
36:35Jesse.
36:35Ten-man Hershey kiss, ballerina, garbage, newspaper.
36:42Oh.
36:43Vacuum bag.
36:44Vacuum bag.
36:44Oh, yeah, that was a good one.
36:45Dirty vacuum bag.
36:46Dirty vacuum bag.
36:48These are fabulous fashion references.
36:50There was absolutely no artistry.
36:52He didn't handle the material as it should have been handled.
36:59Anthony.
37:01What a bore.
37:02I think that he thought he had to make it look like real fabric.
37:08I think you would see that on a rack on sale and you'd just go past it.
37:13He tried too much to make it pretty.
37:16He goes to the hardware store and got conservative and became very uptight.
37:25Okay, so we've made our decision.
37:31Good.
37:31Let's bring them back out.
37:38The six of you will present the best and the worst.
37:42One of you will be named the winner.
37:44And one of you will be out.
37:54One of you will be named the winner.
37:57And one of you will be out.
37:58Maya, you're in.
38:04You can leave the runway.
38:11Jay.
38:13Congratulations.
38:14You're the winner of this challenge.
38:16What you did was truly amazing and we've seen many garbage bags on Project Runway, but never quite like this.
38:29Your outfit was creatively inspired and very new.
38:33You also have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
38:37You can leave the runway.
38:39I won this challenge number two.
38:46Second one.
38:48This is insane.
38:49I'm just a guy who went to a community college in Hawaii and dropped out and kicking these designers' ass.
39:00I don't know.
39:01It just makes me more and more confident that I could win this all the way through.
39:05Yeah.
39:07Mila.
39:09Another impressive job.
39:12You're in.
39:12You can leave the runway.
39:13Thanks.
39:18Anthony.
39:22You're in.
39:22You can leave the runway.
39:24Jesse.
39:31Jesse.
39:33Emilio.
39:34One of you will be out.
39:39Jesse.
39:40Your outfit was disappointing and uninspired.
39:44Instead of transforming your material, the metal still looked like metal.
39:50Also, it was costumy and not fashion.
39:52You were clearly held back instead of liberated by the materials.
40:00Emilio.
40:02Your look was pure Vegas showgirl.
40:05There were hardly any clothes on your model.
40:07And it's obvious you struggled with unconventional materials.
40:15Jesse.
40:21You're out.
40:22That means Emilio, you're in.
40:29You can leave the runway.
40:32Thank you for the opportunity.
40:33Coffee doesn't mean Jesse.
40:49Good luck.
40:50Thank you, guys.
40:53At this point, I don't think I'm the one who should be going.
40:56I put out a risk and I put out something strong and I built it really f***ing well.
41:00So, that's where the frustration lies.
41:04It's over.
41:07I just didn't see my time coming this soon.
41:09Well, Jesse, you know I had concerns about your look.
41:12I never anticipated this outcome.
41:14Me neither.
41:15Never.
41:16So, I have to send you to the work room to clean up your space.
41:20All right.
41:20Thanks, Tim.
41:22We're going to miss you.
41:24I'll miss you guys.
41:25And I'm happy with what I did and I wouldn't trade this experience for anything else.
41:31Beyond that, you know, see what life brings.
41:34I'm going to work on my line and keep putting stuff out there and you'll see me soon.
41:38Next time on Project Runway.
41:42The competition is heating up.
41:44Anyone could go at any time.
41:46I don't like this feeling of the fear of the unknown.
41:49You just made me feel like s***.
41:51It's only a few of us, so we really have to do better than we've done before.
41:56How much longer you got, Ben?
41:57I have no idea.
41:59What is it?
41:59What are they waiting to see for me that I'm not showing them?
42:02Whoa!
42:03Woo-hoo!
42:03Anyone else as worried as I am?
42:06I didn't understand this.
42:07It looks like a cat in a baby sling.
42:09That will destroy you.
42:11It's bizarre.
42:37I don't know.
42:42It sounds wild.
42:52I don't matter.
42:52It's bizarre.
