00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:03Your challenge is to create this year's signature dress for the Campbell's Address Your Heart program.
00:08Each of these amazing women has been impacted by heart disease.
00:12So you're going to make me pretty because I survived, right?
00:15These women are not 34, 25, 35.
00:18This is honestly the largest challenge I've ever faced as a designer.
00:24Amy, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:32I'm sorry, Jesus.
00:34That means you're out.
00:36I cried.
00:38Janine, you choose which model we'll be in.
00:41I choose Casey.
00:43Sorry, Sarah.
00:45It's okay.
00:46This is Project Runway.
00:48Yes!
00:49I am fashion.
00:50Look at me.
00:51It's cut or be cut.
00:52Just make it work.
00:53Great clothes.
00:54Great style.
00:55I've got it all.
00:56Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:00They won't do anything to win.
01:02I will.
01:03But only one can be the winner.
01:05My weapon of choice.
01:06For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:12The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire Magazine.
01:16An opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com.
01:19The $50,000 technology suite to create, design and run their business from HP and Intel.
01:24And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to launch their line.
01:28Get up, Jay.
01:29It's time for Bible study.
01:30You won't read the word.
01:31I use it as a weapon.
01:33You know?
01:34It felt really wonderful to not be in the bottom three.
01:40But one thing I figured out about the bottom three is that when you're in the bottom, the
01:46only place that you can go is up.
01:48Did you want a tea or did you drink coffee?
01:49Well, being in the bottom three sucks.
01:50But I know that really amazing things are going to come because I might be sweet, but I'm fierce.
01:55One thing that's a little disturbing to me and disheartening is that after coming in second,
02:00nobody was really very happy for me.
02:14Nobody said congratulations.
02:15Top two, top two.
02:18Nobody was really very happy for me.
02:20Nobody said congratulations.
02:22Top two, top two.
02:25I don't know what that's about.
02:27Maybe it's about jealousy, maybe it's about
02:29they don't feel like I should have been in the top.
02:32I'm not really sure, but it was kind of a big bummer.
02:36Come out, Jess.
02:37I'm coming.
02:38Let's go see what this challenge is about.
02:39Oh, I didn't even check my hair.
02:41Oops.
02:48It's time for your next challenge.
02:59Amy, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity,
03:03and you cannot be eliminated for this challenge.
03:05Congratulations.
03:08For your next challenge, you will be designing a look
03:11that better be picture perfect.
03:15Tim is going to take you to a spectacular location
03:18where he will introduce you to a special guest
03:21and fill you in on all of the details.
03:24Good luck, and I'll see you on the runway.
03:27Bye.
03:27Bye.
03:29When Heidi announced what the challenge was,
03:32in my head, I'm thinking we're going to a photographer's studio.
03:35We're going to look at old photographs
03:37and try to recreate a look.
03:45Excited?
03:46Yes.
03:47Look at this place.
03:48So we arrive at the Hearst building,
03:50and it's just open and bright and beautiful.
03:54The whole thing is just an amazing look,
03:55so I'm super excited just to see what it is we're going to do here.
03:59Designers, it is a sincere honor for me to introduce you
04:02to Joanna Coles, Editor-in-Chief of Mary Claire Magazine.
04:05Wow.
04:07Joanna, thank you for letting us come.
04:09Oh, my pleasure, and welcome to the Hearst building.
04:12This is where our office is.
04:14Designers, before Joanna continues,
04:16I want you to know that this challenge
04:19is one of the biggest in the history of Project Runway,
04:23and the reward for the winner of the challenge
04:25is unprecedented.
04:28So the challenge is to design an outfit
04:31to be worn by a celebrity to appear on the cover of Mary Claire.
04:37Oh, the cover.
04:38Wow.
04:40The opportunity to be on the cover of Mary Claire is once in a lifetime.
04:45It's something that I feel like has so much potential
04:49for boosting your career, so ultimately, if I win this,
04:52I'm just going to be in heaven.
04:54The winning look will appear on the April cover of Mary Claire.
04:58In the last year, the designers who have been featured on the cover
05:01have included Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Gucci,
05:05just to name a few.
05:07You'll be in that company.
05:10Now, there are some key rules when you're designing for a cover.
05:14It's not just about the outfit.
05:16You have to think about the crop.
05:18We usually go from sort of thigh or waist upwards,
05:21so if you're putting detail in there,
05:23it probably needs to be in the top part.
05:24You need to bear in mind that we want to put cover lines
05:27on the outfit, so think about color.
05:29We would never do black, and I think patterns can be tricky
05:32because you want to get words on there.
05:34It's going to be an April cover, so what will the season be like?
05:38What will they be wearing?
05:40The reader normally takes about three seconds
05:42to decide which magazine to pick off the newsstand,
05:45so it needs to be eye-catching, strong, confident, sexy.
05:48And can I tell them who the celebrity is?
05:50I'd love you to.
05:52The celebrity is none other than Heidi Klum.
06:00That's huge.
06:01Like, wow.
06:02So not only do we get a cover
06:04of one of the best fashion magazines,
06:07we get one of the best supermodels
06:09in the entire world to wear the look.
06:12It's amazing.
06:13Good luck, guys.
06:14Thank you, Joanna.
06:20All right, designers.
06:27You have 30 minutes to sketch.
06:29I'm pleased to see that you've already started.
06:31And how exciting is this?
06:32One of you will have your design on Heidi Klum
06:35on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
06:38You have one day for this challenge.
06:41I'll be back in 30 minutes.
06:43Thank you, Tim.
06:45My God, if my dress can be on the cover of Marie Claire magazine,
06:51I want it to say Mila.
06:53Designing for Heidi Klum is a dream come true
06:56and completely intimidating.
06:57I mean, when the garment comes down the runway,
06:59she's right there.
07:00I choose an icy color palette,
07:03sort of silver and light blue and charcoal gray,
07:07because I think that those are colors
07:08that could really stand out on her.
07:10I want to design a dress that is form-fitted, short,
07:20but not slutty.
07:21I'm really going to focus on color.
07:23That's going to be a huge statement as far as, you know,
07:25catching somebody's eye, you know,
07:26just from like walking by a new stand.
07:28And I really want someone to see just a glimpse of it
07:31and want to see more.
07:33All right, designers.
07:38We're going to Mood,
07:40so bring whatever you need with you.
07:42And we will have a good shopping experience.
07:45All right?
07:51Designers, I have your $150 budget
07:53and you will have 30 minutes to shop.
07:56Everyone, your time will begin right now.
08:00And they're off.
08:03No, no, no, no, no, no.
08:05How much is this stuff here?
08:07I'm picking blues and turquoise and greens.
08:09You know, I'm not quite sure about the mix of colors,
08:12but I'm just grabbing.
08:14Can I get, uh, two yards of this place?
08:15Grabbing.
08:16Half a yard of this.
08:17Grabbing.
08:18Yeah, that'll be enough.
08:20Designers, you have one minute remaining.
08:23All right, everybody.
08:24One minute to get in line.
08:27Whoa!
08:28Thank you, Mood.
08:43All right, designers.
08:44You have until midnight tonight,
08:46and you know the morning drill.
08:48There will be very little time.
08:49All right.
08:51Make it work.
08:52I'll see you later.
08:53Okay.
08:58Time is absolutely becoming more and more of a factor as we move on.
09:03It just feels even crazier because the stakes are high.
09:06I mean, you get to have your design on the cover of magazine,
09:08and here you go.
09:09You have one day to put it all together.
09:15So the winner gets the cover of Marie Claire magazine,
09:18which is so huge.
09:20So everybody's just completely in the zone.
09:22It's pretty quiet around the room right now.
09:25The mood in the work room is quiet.
09:31It is busy.
09:32And that's the reality that everybody's trying to make it work.
09:35I'm going to go to sleep if it remains this quiet in here.
09:43Seth Aaron, he's very immature,
09:45and he just doesn't stop.
09:47Like, no matter how many times you have to tell him,
09:49like, just shut up.
09:50I wish he was that.
10:03I shake one hell of a martini.
10:05Lots of 80s rock.
10:07I like lots of 80s pop rock.
10:09Some people just don't know how to just work, chill,
10:12and just let your garment do your talking.
10:15Seth Aaron just needs to bring it down a notch.
10:18Let's get your back.
10:19Let's get your back.
10:20Did you smoke anything besides a cigarette when you went outside?
10:24No.
10:25Take your word for it.
10:29The biggest problem that I'm having is the magenta is looking fuchsia.
10:33So I started just playing around with the black metallic nylon that I have
10:37and the fuchsia linen,
10:39and it's actually looking better than the sketch.
10:42That's really striking.
10:45Oh, we got a new iron?
10:46New iron.
10:47So you're already in fabric?
10:48Wow.
10:49Well, that's not amazing, trust me.
10:50I have a ways to go.
10:52I have taken a lot of the things that the judges are telling me at this point,
10:57but I can't afford to beat myself up.
11:00No matter what, I'm going to design something that speaks volumes about Anthony.
11:04Anthony is using a really bright turquoise,
11:08and funny enough, Anna's using a very similarly bright turquoise.
11:12Yikes.
11:13I've never made three pieces before.
11:16I've only ever made one.
11:18So what possessed me to try to make three pieces in nine hours, I'm not quite sure.
11:23The pressure's really on.
11:24Stay threaded.
11:25I'm looking at my colors.
11:26I'm looking at my shell pinks and my cream colors, and it's starting to look very bridal.
11:36And I don't do bridal.
11:37Like, I'm going along, and I'm thinking I should be doing the opposite of what I'm doing.
11:42You know?
11:43Like, this sort of intuitive, damn it, Janine.
11:46Like, don't blow this.
11:48Coming up on Project Runway.
11:51They're going to be pretty short.
11:53I mean, you don't want it to look like clown clothes.
11:55That worries me.
11:56It is serious freak out.
11:58Why did that happen?
12:13Are you making a dress?
12:15No.
12:16I'm making a space suit.
12:19This challenge means more to me than anything to this point in my career.
12:24I mean, competing for a major national cover is unprecedented.
12:29So it's very important to me that I create something that I can really see winning.
12:34With every challenge, I get better and better about dealing with time constraints.
12:39But this particular challenge is kind of frustrating because the reward is huge.
12:45And I want my construction to be immaculate.
12:48I don't like that scene at all.
12:50I'm trying not to sort of emote the dread that is boiling up in my stomach.
12:55I should have a point of view and I just feel like I don't.
13:00I'm probably going to screw myself.
13:02Anna, how's the three pieces going?
13:04Oh, my God.
13:05That's okay.
13:06I just really need a fitting, you know?
13:08So here I am working on the shorts and I think to myself,
13:11these need to be really beautifully made because I've had craftsmanship issues in the past
13:16and I really want to have that not be part of my future.
13:19I'm doing a jacket, a pop, pair of pants, and of this.
13:22Seth Aaron, you're like so talented.
13:25Everybody can sew, dude, in here.
13:27My biggest competition at this point is probably half the people in that room.
13:31I feel like Emilio is definitely really strong and he's got a lot of experience.
13:34I feel the same way about Mila even though I don't really love her aesthetic.
13:37I feel like the judges do.
13:38I haven't really seen any great competition for me in this challenge so far.
13:42You know, Jay and Maya have some interesting things going on and yeah,
13:47I mean, that's about all I can tell so far.
13:53How is everybody?
13:55Working.
13:57Really?
13:58You don't sound so good.
14:00You sound worn out.
14:02I'm just here to check in with you all and I'm going to start with Anthony.
14:06Oh.
14:07See?
14:08That's what I mean about the response.
14:10Hi, Tim.
14:12How are you?
14:13I know I don't sound like my usual chipper self.
14:16This is an intense challenge.
14:18Furthermore, Heidi's going to wear this look.
14:20Right.
14:21I wanted to do a short dress but I didn't want it to be formal.
14:24All right, can you just give me an idea of what it's going to look like?
14:27Well, that's the thing, Tim.
14:28I don't completely know what it's going to look like.
14:31I just start cutting the strips out.
14:34That worries me.
14:35I don't want you just to gimmick it up.
14:38I don't want you to do this for the sake of doing it.
14:40Right.
14:41Use that editing eye.
14:42If you can take something off and not hurt the integrity of the look, don't do it.
14:45Okay.
14:46Okay, carry on.
14:47I will.
14:51Hi, Tim.
14:52I'm eager to see what you're doing.
14:54I'm doing a dress out of stretch wools, peach beige cream, like gray, dark gray.
14:59And, you know, it's basically a low V in the front.
15:03It's going to come around to like a sort of a echoing the mitering, a little V in the back.
15:09All right.
15:10So it's your signature, certainly.
15:11It's my signature.
15:12Yeah.
15:13Work.
15:14Work.
15:15Thanks, Mila.
15:17How's Janine doing?
15:18Hi, Tim.
15:19So I picked a lot of like blues and ocean-y colors.
15:22And how are you using these?
15:24Well, I want to layer them so it looks like sort of just waves or something and then...
15:30But this spewing out factor, is that really you?
15:34Well, you know, it's the fifth challenge and I haven't met the judges yet.
15:38That could be a blessing.
15:39No, no, I understand that.
15:41But, like, I am getting further ahead, but it's like, I'm not that great, but I'm not that bad.
15:46All right, because I know, I mean, you don't want it to look like clown clothes.
15:49I know when to...
15:50Okay.
15:51...come back a little bit.
15:53Okay, wonderful.
15:56Well, I certainly see color.
15:58Yes.
15:59Yes.
16:00I'm definitely working with color.
16:01The concept is kind of like Madame Butterfly on acid.
16:03So it's one piece?
16:05It will be one piece, yeah.
16:07And then the belt will just separate it, which I'm doing in the metallic leather.
16:10I just fear that it could potentially cheapen it...
16:14Okay.
16:15...and make it into a joke.
16:17So, with that in mind, as you're working with it, just keep asking yourself the same question.
16:21I will.
16:22Because I'm really with you on everything else.
16:24Carry on, Ben.
16:28Anna.
16:29Hi, Tim.
16:30So talk to me.
16:31What are you doing?
16:32I kind of like the juxtaposition of sort of more of a cooler fabric with more of a feminine.
16:38But do you feel this is you?
16:39Yeah, I do.
16:40I do.
16:41So there's going to be this pair of shorts also that completes the bottom half.
16:46And how short are the shorts?
16:48Um, you know, they're going to be pretty short.
16:51All right.
16:52Don't lose your editing eye on this.
16:53Okay.
16:54Thank you, Tim.
16:55All right, Anna.
16:57Emilio.
16:58Hi, Tim.
16:59Color.
17:00Yes.
17:01I'm creating a short little cocktail dress.
17:02Okay.
17:03And then I got this ombre lacing.
17:05I mean, as nice as this ombre is, I don't think anyone's going to notice that it's going
17:09to be that they're different colors.
17:10Well, what I'm going to do is I'm going to do it, lace it, and then leave them the length
17:15of the dress.
17:16You're emphasizing the neckline using this corseting lacing.
17:20Yes.
17:21Yes?
17:22Yes.
17:23Don't get in a position where you can't do this because that is the wow factor.
17:26That is the wow factor.
17:27Exactly.
17:28Thank you, sir.
17:30All right, designers.
17:31I'm leaving you for the night.
17:33And I will say that I'm leaving you for the night reluctantly.
17:36Make it work, everybody.
17:37Thank you, Tim.
17:38See you tomorrow.
17:39All right, let me throw some stitches in this and then just see where we're at.
17:45So Alexis arrives for the model fitting and I've got basically the front piece of the
17:50dress finished.
17:51So at least I'm in a good place.
17:52I can hold it up and see how the basket weave kind of works around her curves.
17:55Basically, when you're looking at the back, it's this long.
17:58Oh, that's cool.
18:00The color that I'm using is really muted.
18:02I don't know.
18:03I just wanted to do something really feminine and sexy.
18:07Hi, Heidi.
18:08Heidi embodies that kind of persona.
18:12Carrie comes in and I'm a little horrified by how off I was on the shorts.
18:16The shorts are not a good fit.
18:18And I also begin to freak out because I can see that there's not a whole lot of time left.
18:23I see that Anna might need to really pay attention to her hem and the fit of her garment.
18:29And she has very limited experience.
18:31So we'll see what she turns out.
18:33Thank you, hot though.
18:35I'm so excited.
18:36All right, I'll meet you.
18:37Bye.
18:38Oh, good.
18:39Nobody dared go near my machine.
18:44Mila.
18:45There's something about her that's, you know, kind of fake and not so sincere.
18:51Time for some major assembly here.
18:54Nothing bothers me about Mila the person.
18:56What bothers me about Mila the designer is that she really comes off as very cocky when
19:01all she's doing is color blocking in every challenge.
19:04She's a one note wonder.
19:07This is the back.
19:10Because they sure do look the same to me at this point.
19:12I just feel like there's so little time in this challenge and I need to be really focused.
19:19I mean, I'm here to win.
19:21Let me think, let me think, let me think.
19:24Right now I'm concerned about my look because I wanted to do something special.
19:29However, I'm not exactly sure how to work through my dress.
19:33So I wish they would give us more time in this challenge, but life isn't fair.
19:37So why the hell should Project Runway be?
19:41Oh my God.
19:42It's 11.50.
19:45How did that happen?
19:47So at the end of the day, I'm in shock.
19:49I need to finish my skirt.
19:50I need to do the hem.
19:51It is serious freak out.
19:53As the night ends, I know I made a huge mistake because it already looks too short on the dress form.
19:59Unfortunately, I don't have the time to recut this entire dress.
20:03So I'm just going to have to see what the judges say.
20:05It's midnight and I'm really worried about how things are going.
20:09I just really am trying to work as fast as possible to get everything done on time.
20:13Okay, I'm done.
20:14Wait for me, bitches.
20:20Coming up on Project Runway.
20:22We're going down to the runway right now.
20:24I'm in a mode of hysteria.
20:26Ugh.
20:27Come on.
20:28I just want to get out of this alone.
20:38Ay-yi-yi.
20:39There's going to be a blood bath on the runway today.
20:42Yeah, this is going to be a carnival.
20:46Vila.
20:47Top three.
20:48We're going to be in the top three again?
20:49Yeah.
20:50Mhmm.
20:51Mhmm.
20:52Mhmm.
20:53Mhmm.
20:54Mhmm.
20:55Mhmm.
20:56The prize in this particular challenge is truly a platform for greatness.
21:00So it is very important to me.
21:02Anna.
21:03I have a feeling that our time is running out.
21:06I have a hunch that Anna and I completely missed the mark on this one.
21:11And it might come down between the two of us.
21:13I have a lot of work to do.
21:14So do I.
21:18You forgot your purse.
21:19Now I got it.
21:20I have quite a lot of finishing to do on the shorts.
21:39I'm like in a mode of hysteria.
21:42I'm feeling like I'm pretty much on target.
21:53I think Heidi's going to look amazing in my dress.
21:57I'm nowhere near being done.
21:58I mean, I have been nowhere near being done before, but this is like, this is serious.
22:05Designers, this is the biggest challenge in the history of Project Runway.
22:11So I want you all focusing on these garments and making them absolute perfection.
22:17Okay?
22:18You have an hour each to send your model to the Garnier Hair Salon and the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room.
22:23I assume you're all using the bluefly.com wall?
22:26Yes.
22:27Of course.
22:28Good.
22:30I'm sending in your models.
22:36All right.
22:37Oh, cool.
22:38Where is the jacket?
22:41Oh, you'll be fine once I put the zipper on.
22:45To be able to have Heidi wear my dress for the cover of Marie Claire magazine, that's amazing.
22:53Everyone wants this so badly.
22:55Everyone.
22:56Nice, smoky gray eye.
22:57I don't want anything dark or costume.
22:58All the adjectives they used to describe me in the pants.
23:11Once it gets past the earlobes, that's when the volume starts.
23:15Make it edgy.
23:19Designers, you and your models and I are going down to the runway in ten minutes.
23:26The dress did pretty much come out the way I envisioned.
23:31Had I had more time, I probably would have added more volume to the neckline, but I'm feeling so confident.
23:37I think that the couple of designers who will have trouble, a lot of their colors are not colors that are going to resonate.
23:44People have these really muted tans and topes.
23:48It's just going to wash out.
23:50Okay.
23:51Good.
23:52Good.
23:53Good.
23:54If I could go back and do this whole thing over again, I would have gone in a completely different direction.
24:03Pedals broke.
24:06Come on.
24:07I just want to get out of this alive.
24:10Yes.
24:11I'm very happy about my dress.
24:13A part of me thinks, Lord, what if they don't like this dress?
24:16But at this point, I got to be consistent with myself.
24:19I made a decision that I was going to make something I love, and I have got to remain faithful to that thought process.
24:25You did a really great job.
24:26It came out really nice.
24:28Having Lorena dressed and having her in hair and makeup and everything, the whole look ties together.
24:34I'm wondering, you know, maybe this is the one.
24:36This could be my moment.
24:37Yeah.
24:38I'm happy.
24:39Designers and models, this is it.
24:42We're going down to the runway right now.
24:44Oh, this way.
24:46Coming up on Project Runway.
24:47It's like three ingredients that leave you feeling nauseous.
25:02This would not work at all.
25:04You know, we've never done this before.
25:15Welcome to the runway.
25:16As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
25:21Your challenge was to design an outfit for the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
25:27The winning designer's look will be on the April cover, and they will be worn by yours truly.
25:34Okay, let's meet the judges.
25:36First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
25:39Hey, guys.
25:40Fashion director for Marie Claire magazine, Nina Garcia.
25:43Hi, everyone.
25:44Hello, everyone.
25:45And editor-in-chief for Marie Claire magazine, Joanna Coles.
25:49Hi.
25:51We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:54One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:59Let's start the show.
26:02I am happy with my garment.
26:04I think that holly looks great.
26:06I think that it does feel like a spring look.
26:09And I'm actually happy that I'm the only one that used a print, which I completely think is appropriate on a cover.
26:17If they put my suit on the front of Marie Claire with Heidi Klum wearing it, I'll guarantee you they sell more copies.
26:26I'm 300% happy.
26:32I think I definitely fulfilled this challenge to the fullest.
26:35It's really a dress that's going to catch somebody's eye on a cover.
26:38Ultimately, everything kind of dissipates into just a big smile and relief and happiness.
26:43And I feel like I just showed exactly what I am.
26:48As I watch Carrie walk down the runway, I really feel like the look is a reflection of who I am as a designer.
26:55Heidi is cool and contemporary.
26:59That version of her, I can see being interested in this look.
27:02When she turns that corner, I'm like, yes ma'am, get into it.
27:12I found a balance between creating the volume as well as showing off a beautiful silhouette.
27:18I don't know if it's the best dress up there, but I think I did my job beautifully.
27:26I had some issues with bulk, but I think I fulfilled the vision that I had going into this.
27:32I feel really great about my dress.
27:35I think it looks great on Brandeis.
27:39I'm just a little concerned about the color because I thought I was selecting a peach,
27:44and on the runway, it appears to be more of a beige.
27:47The color is amazing. The detail, it's spectacular.
27:56My dress was put together, and Heidi will look hot in my dress.
28:01If I were to win this prize, it really would be huge.
28:05I'm so proud of myself that I came up with something so graceful and flowy and romantic and sexy.
28:19There's something so dramatic about that dress that I love.
28:24This design moves. It looks like butter.
28:29You can just look at it and see the comfort of this garment.
28:32It's so well-crafted, every seam and edge is lying flat,
28:37and I think that the romper would be a knockout on a cover.
28:42Megan looks so good in the dress.
28:45She looks stunning, and the color ends up being so nice on her.
28:52I'm really pleased, and I think it would look great on a magazine cover.
28:55I couldn't have asked for the color to look any more saturated and vibrant, and I think the thing that excites me the most is that it really is a fresh new take.
29:09It's something different, and it ended up being a cover look.
29:12So, just keep my fingers crossed.
29:13If I call your name, please step forward.
29:23Seth Aaron.
29:26Jay.
29:29Maya, please step forward.
29:32Jesse.
29:34Jonathan.
29:35Amy.
29:37Amy.
29:41If I have called your name, congratulations.
29:44Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
29:48You can leave the runway.
29:51The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
29:59One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
30:05Let's bring out your models.
30:15Ben, tell us about your look, and why do you think it will work for a cover?
30:18The idea is kind of like a modern interpretation of Madame Butterfly in Technicolor, so I wanted to really use vibrant colors and a lot of textures.
30:28It kind of acts as a kimono, but it still functions as a dress.
30:32A newsstand is a very noisy place, and I think this cuts through the noise. It's a good choice.
30:40It feels very modern. I like the combination of the colors, and it's as beautiful from the front as it is from the back.
30:48I think you did a beautiful back on this dress, you know, with the little peekaboo, and then you edged it out with the yellow. It definitely has an impact.
30:56I think it's going to be worn by someone who's very confident. It's a real contender.
31:02Thank you so much.
31:04Anna, tell us about your look.
31:05What about your look?
31:06Well, I started sort of with a color palette that I thought would complement your natural coloring and immediately thought of blue.
31:12I also wanted to reference that reader of Marie Claire that is sort of contemporary and hip and a little bit feminine, but not completely whimsical in a sense.
31:20It's going to be on Heidi, who has an incredible figure, and this gives her no shape or silhouette whatsoever.
31:29It's like three ingredients in a dish that leave you feeling slightly nauseous. It just doesn't work together.
31:36This is not a teen magazine. I think you totally missed what is this magazine about, who is their reader, and who am I putting this off?
31:47Speaking about the pieces themselves, I think that they are made well, but I don't think you pushed the envelope enough.
31:53Anthony, tell us about your look.
31:57I was truly inspired by you. I thought about every time that you have grazed this carpet and what you're wearing.
32:04I wanted clean lines, and I wanted a very feminine silhouette because I did play in my mind, she's no longer going to be pregnant.
32:11So I'm sure you wanted to celebrate your figure.
32:14The costume drama is over. You've entered modern times.
32:18This dress is modern looking, that length is great for her, and you did one shoulder in a new way.
32:27I do like this dress very much for Heidi.
32:31Jesus.
32:33And you are one of the few designers that embraces color.
32:37The color is fantastic. If that's where next spring is going to be, then just beam me there.
32:43The way you place this, it's actually very slimming.
32:46So her body looks beautiful.
32:50Okay, Janine, tell us about your look.
32:52I was really inspired by the ocean and the colors of the sea.
32:56And I created this structured dress with these seashell inspired seam lines with a small sort of frothy little bolero.
33:05She's got like the seaweed organza, she's got 9,000 seams, all of that going on.
33:10And then I'm going to lay whatever their cover lines are on top of it.
33:15I'm going to pass it by.
33:17It's not, to me, fashion forward.
33:19It's not like what women in America will look at Maren Claire like, wow, she looks hot.
33:23You know, I want to be that woman.
33:24I'm not getting the beach and the sea reference unless it's a sort of polluted sea with plastic bottles in it.
33:32It's fierce, too romantic, too bridal.
33:36It's just too sweet all around.
33:38When I see Heidi, I don't necessarily see her as sweet.
33:42No.
33:45Mila, tell us about your look.
33:47I wanted something strong, feminine, but still soft.
33:51And I just thought this would be really slimming at the waist.
33:55Rather than a strong color, I decided to take a chance and go for something fresh and light.
34:01Let's be honest, that peach comes off like ace bandage.
34:04And then, once you crop her, she's literally in some kind of weird jog bra with a v-neck.
34:09And these arrows look like they're pointing at her crotch.
34:14I mean, this would not work at all.
34:17That color doesn't feel confident.
34:20It feels like it's trying to disappear.
34:22It looked much peachier when it was in my hands.
34:26Emilio, tell us about your look.
34:28Well, I wanted a very sexy, strong color and very interesting detail from the waist up.
34:34So I chose the silk jersey and teamed it with the ombre lacing.
34:40It's not the easiest thing in the world to make jerseys structured.
34:44And I have to say that you managed to take fabric that doesn't want to do that and you made it work.
34:50You could get a very strong cover with it.
34:53This dress beckoned people to grab the magazine.
34:55I do love the color.
34:58I think the detail is beautiful, but with those little ribbons going on, it just feels very junior to me.
35:05These here.
35:06Just these things right here.
35:08Here it goes.
35:10Cut the whole strap off, I'm just curious.
35:12The whole damn strap, just watch.
35:14It's more sophisticated by a long shot.
35:17Open the ponytail.
35:18It looks like a bean.
35:19Yeah, let's get rid of old hooks.
35:21You know, we've never done this before.
35:24Seriously.
35:26Yeah, it's great.
35:27Thank you very much.
35:29Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
35:31We're going to have a little chat and then I'll call you back.
35:34You can leave the runway.
35:41Okay, let's start with the designers that weren't as strong.
35:45Janine.
35:47It's so weird that she would design this dress for you.
35:50It's not my style at all.
35:52You said strength.
35:53That's the opposite.
35:55Whimsical and mermaidy, but not a cover dress.
35:59Okay, let's move on to Anna.
36:01That was dreadful.
36:02There's nothing special about this.
36:04I'm not sure what her point of view is.
36:07Granted, she made separates.
36:09She managed to make those shorts.
36:11They were well made.
36:12They were well made.
36:14Okay, let's move on to Mila.
36:16The main color of the dress was the color of hospital food.
36:19I would probably have to put on a lot of self tanner, get really tan in order to fight.
36:25This color.
36:26You would recede right back in this dress and I think people would walk on by.
36:32Let's move on to the ones that we did like.
36:34Let's start with Emilio.
36:35There were a lot of things there that were good, but it had to be sort of redesigned.
36:40Once you got rid of those silly ties that were on her shoulder, I think cleavage, color, a nice line, all of those things I think are great for you.
36:49I liked the fact he had his scissors in his pocket and he was quite happy to chop them off.
36:54Honestly, when you're doing a cover, you need a designer to be able to do that.
36:58Okay, let's move on to Ben.
37:01I think Ben did a very modern, very chic dress.
37:04I think this would be very eye-catching on the newsstand.
37:08Definitely. I agree.
37:09It's fantastic that Ben showed this kind of confidence.
37:13Right.
37:16Okay, let's move on to Anthony.
37:18He thought about your coloring, your figure.
37:21It's got a lot of charm about it, this dress.
37:24Makes me feel glad springs here.
37:25Even if you were really cropped on that, the strap itself is interesting enough that it has dimension and texture.
37:36Okay, so we've made our decision.
37:39Good. Let's bring them back out.
37:48One of you will have your design on the cover of Marie Claire magazine, and one of you will be out.
37:55I want to remind you that this is one of the biggest rewards we've ever had for Project Runway Challenge.
38:14And since the reward is so great, the winner will not have immunity for the next challenge.
38:22Anthony.
38:25You are the winner of this one.
38:28Is this real?
38:31Ow!
38:39Did she say my name?
38:41The color and design details are right on.
38:45I really can't wait to wear it on the cover of Marie Claire magazine.
38:48Oh, thank you so much.
38:49Congratulations.
38:51You can leave the runway.
39:01Guess who's dress will be on the front of Marie Claire?
39:04I think at this moment, the judges' eyes are open.
39:07And I think that they see that I have taken things and critiques that they've said to me and I'm using them to my benefit and the sky's the limit for me at this moment.
39:17Ben, great job.
39:18You're in.
39:19You're in.
39:20You can leave the runway.
39:22Emilio, you're in.
39:23You can leave the runway.
39:25Emilio, you're in.
39:26You can leave the runway.
39:27Thank you very much.
39:29Milio, you're in.
39:30You can leave the runway.
39:31Thank you very much.
39:37Mila, you're in.
39:39You can leave the runway.
39:46Anna and Janine, one of you will be out.
39:53Janine, you had a very interesting inspiration, but the look does not live up to it.
39:58It felt more bridal than fashion forward.
40:03Anna, the vest and shorts outfit is forgettable and it would not stand out on a crowded newsstand.
40:16Anna, you're out.
40:21Anna, you're out.
40:28That means Janine, you're in.
40:37I think you're wonderful.
40:44You can leave the runway.
40:46Thank you very much.
40:55All the best to you.
40:56Thank you so much.
40:57I'm sad that I've been eliminated, but I'm so proud of myself.
41:10Being here and being around so many amazing designers is really just such an amazing thing in itself.
41:16Anna, I have to center the work room to clean up your space.
41:20I know.
41:21You should feel so proud of what you have achieved here.
41:24All right.
41:25We'll miss you out.
41:27Anna, my name.
41:29Ultimately, I'll take with me a confidence in who I am as a designer and I know that really amazing things are going to come because I already have.
41:36Next time on Project Runway, for your next challenge, you will have new models.
41:46Oh, crap.
41:48This is going to be a nightmare.
41:53What the?
41:55The work room is a little bit like romper room on crack.
41:58Do y'all have an off switch?
42:01Looks like the house is on fire and she grabbed every garment in the house.
42:05And she just ran out of the house.
42:07It looks like a cheap mall outfit.
42:09Those are just a train wreck.
42:28So, they're going to try to get it to the afternoon.
42:30We're going to go ahead and enter the house.
42:31Be very excited.
42:32Have a good day.
42:33The, we'll see you next time.
42:35Let's go.
42:36We'll be right back to you.
42:38You'll be right back.
42:39Nice to meet you.
42:40Let's go.
42:42I'll be right back to you.
42:44One more time.
