00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03You will be working in teams of two.
00:06I'm gonna choose Epperson.
00:07I'd like to work with Ramon.
00:09We have to understand each other.
00:11I don't have nothing else to say. I'm good.
00:12I don't know what the judge's take is gonna be,
00:14but if I gotta save myself, I will.
00:16I'm trying to keep Mitchell as focused as possible.
00:19Every time I turn around, he's gone.
00:21Ow!
00:22I'll be the same bitches.
00:25You didn't come up with a concept.
00:27My concept wasn't good enough.
00:28I'm not finished.
00:29Exactly, that's what I was going through.
00:30I'm not finished.
00:31What did you do, Mitchell?
00:32I worked in the swimsuit.
00:33You did the swimsuit and Ramon did everything else?
00:36Ramon, you are the winner of this challenge.
00:38Are you serious?
00:41Mitchell, three strikes and you're out.
00:44Never in Project Runway history has a team member
00:47for winning design been eliminated.
00:52This is Project Runway.
00:54Of course I'm the best.
00:55Let's do this.
00:56The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:58I have to win.
00:59You better watch out.
01:01Sixteen designers.
01:02Ivan, you're out.
01:04Don't get cut.
01:05Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
01:08I'm the best designer here.
01:09I have no fear.
01:11Make it work.
01:12That's my one.
01:13But only one can be the winner.
01:15This is my dream.
01:16For these 16 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:21The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a Paris vacation courtesy of Avion, and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line.
01:33I'm really excited to find out what the challenge is.
01:42We need to weed out the talentless people.
01:45It's time.
01:46Hopefully we're not in teams again and we can showcase our own talent.
01:52Yeah.
01:53Working with Crystal.
01:54It was really hard.
01:55I know it was so hard on her.
01:56It was hard on me.
01:57Going into the next challenge.
01:59I'm hoping if I don't win, I'd at least be in the top three.
02:02Now that I'll be known as the B-I-T-C-H.
02:05Oh, I don't think so.
02:07What happened in this situation is you did not stand up for yourself early enough.
02:14Anyway, I'm just glad it's a new day.
02:16It's a new day.
02:17I just want to forget about yesterday.
02:19All right, let's hit it.
02:21Ha-cha!
02:22Are you coming?
02:24Let's go and see what happens today.
02:32Hello.
02:33Hi.
02:34We're down to 13 designers.
02:36Lucky 13.
02:37So I bet that you're ready to hear about your next challenge.
02:42Yes.
02:43Well, Tim is waiting for you in the workroom with 13 women who know exactly what they want.
02:50Your challenge is simple.
02:52Make all of these women very, very happy.
02:56Easy enough.
02:57No?
02:59I mean, all we know is that there are 13 women who know what they want.
03:02I mean, it could be anything.
03:03It could be homeless people to Eskimos.
03:07Good luck.
03:08And I see you on the runway.
03:10Bye.
03:11Bye.
03:12Bye.
03:13We see all of our models standing there and everybody just breathes this huge sigh of relief because people were thinking it was going to be Bridezilla's.
03:34Designers, say hello to your clients for this challenge.
03:43The models of the runway have been invited to a special industry event and what they wear will very likely be their ticket to the future.
03:52Wow.
03:53They need to stand out and be noticed so that agents, designers and the press see not only their impeccable sense of style, but their ability to wear and sell a look.
04:05Your job is to make certain that that happens.
04:08At this point, I'm feeling pretty nervous that Koji might have a completely different style than I do.
04:15Okay.
04:16All right, designers, you have your new clients.
04:20You have 30 minutes to caucus.
04:22Then we're going shopping at Mood where you'll have a budget of $100.
04:26And this is your first one-day challenge to have until midnight tonight.
04:32I will see you in 30 minutes.
04:33Thanks, everybody.
04:34Have fun.
04:39Tell me what you don't want.
04:41No jersey.
04:44Deep purple.
04:45This challenge is actually kind of simple.
04:47I know what Emory likes.
04:48We have the same aesthetic.
04:49We have the same idea.
04:50And we have the same vibe.
04:51When you go to, like, an event, you don't have to be all over the top.
04:54Like, I'm here.
04:55You know, just simple, understated.
04:58It's like designing something for myself if I was a black girl.
05:03Fresh.
05:04Right.
05:05That should be fresh.
05:06And not too much.
05:07Like, something that is, like, simple but interesting.
05:09Not a little girl but kind of, like, sexy but not too much.
05:13Right.
05:14I want something that will show my body but not to expose too much.
05:17I don't want something too big.
05:19Right.
05:20And if it's long, then I just want it tight.
05:21Right.
05:22It's something tight.
05:23My model, Mattar.
05:24Oh, man.
05:25She just had a whole list.
05:26From sexy, romantic, chic, elegant, classy, fitted, short, punk, tiger.
05:33I'm like, wait, wait, wait.
05:41Valerie's concept is that she wants something flattering to show off her curves.
05:45She's gonna be in a room full of beautiful girls, so she wants to be able to stand out.
05:50So, we're definitely gonna do, like, a shorter length.
05:52You definitely don't want anything long.
05:54So, Kaylee walks in and she's a bit apprehensive just because she's not sure what she wants.
06:00Do you like having an open back?
06:02Yes.
06:03I love my back.
06:04She thinks she wants color, but then maybe she doesn't.
06:07She's very indecisive.
06:09So, I'll have to coach her into being comfortable with it.
06:13So, it's definitely gonna be you.
06:14There'll be a little bit of quirkiness of my aesthetic.
06:17Yeah, I love that.
06:18Okay.
06:19I'm having some thoughts about this red.
06:22Fatma has a color scheme in mind that I'm not too wild about.
06:26Red is a little garish for a model event.
06:30Black and gold would be better for her.
06:32The model that I'm working with is Tanisha.
06:35I'm having positive thoughts about it because it's just going so smoothly between us.
06:39And I think she comes to me with a really great sense of style.
06:43I want, like, a low v-neck back.
06:46Oh, my God.
06:47Are you sure this is good for this occasion?
06:49I think so.
06:50Like, because I like to stand out.
06:52Whenever I go somewhere, I want to make a statement.
06:54I'm just worried, like, a royal blue and gold jumpsuit is gonna look like a costume.
06:59Royal blue, I mean, that's a strong color.
07:01That color makes a statement by itself.
07:03Me and Evanie start talking.
07:06She wants a royal blue satin jumpsuit with gold rope.
07:11I'm afraid that, like, if you do that in addition to the entire body being royal blue, like, that's gonna be a lot.
07:18I automatically get really scared because that's not me at all, and I have to stand by this garment.
07:26I basically want to show that I don't want to do, like, everyday commercial work.
07:30I want to do the artistic and the edgy.
07:33Okay.
07:34I want to step out of everybody's comfort zone.
07:35Yeah, okay.
07:36Koji basically tells me that she wants kind of this 1950s look.
07:39I don't really know that era as much as she does.
07:43I'm happy with lace or leather.
07:45I haven't worked with lace a whole lot, but we can play with it.
07:49I think that this is a really big challenge.
07:51I'm designing new stuff and pushing myself in different directions.
07:55Thank you, models.
07:56I think I got everything.
07:57Yeah, you're gonna rock it, I'm sure.
07:58I'm sure you're gonna rock it.
07:59I'm excited.
08:00I'm really, really excited.
08:01All right, designers.
08:02Come with me.
08:03All right, you have your $100 budget.
08:04You have 30 minutes to shop.
08:05Go.
08:06Oh, yeah.
08:07That's actually perfect.
08:08So I cut four yards of this?
08:09Yes.
08:10I see this black suiting fabric.
08:11I'm super excited that I've, I feel like I've just had this really great find of the fabric.
08:15Running around the fabric, still looking for the fabric.
08:16I'm just looking for the fabric.
08:17I'm just looking for the fabric.
08:18All right, you have your $100 budget.
08:19You have 30 minutes to shop.
08:20Go.
08:21Oh, yeah.
08:22That's actually perfect.
08:23So I cut four yards of this?
08:24Yes.
08:25I see this black suiting fabric.
08:26I'm super excited that I've, I feel like I've just had this really great find of the fabric.
08:37Running around the fabric, still looking for orange fabric.
08:39They had one bright piece of orange fabric.
08:42It was terrible.
08:43So I scrapped it.
08:45I told Tim, I said, that's it on the floor.
08:47I decided to go with brown.
08:48You're going to make it work.
08:49I know.
08:50And remember, you're the designer.
08:51She's the client.
08:52You can only address her needs as well as you can.
08:57Five minutes, everybody.
09:00My model, Valerie, she likes warm colors, chocolate browns and, you know, black.
09:06Me personally, as a designer, I never really design anything in black.
09:10All right, designers.
09:11That's it.
09:12Time is up.
09:13Let's head back to the work room.
09:14Thank you, Mood.
09:15Thank you, Mood.
09:16Thank you, Mood.
09:17That was painful on my finger.
09:22What's the matter?
09:23Ow, that was painful on my finger.
09:43What's the matter?
09:45I was just thinking about somebody else having to go home.
09:49Somebody else what? Having to go home?
09:51Having to go home.
09:52What do you think it's going to be this time?
09:53It's just so depressing. I don't know.
09:56Mean.
10:01You know, this is the first time that I've felt like people have gone home.
10:06You know, it's like you think 13 is a lot, but then you look around and you're like,
10:09Oh, they're just getting knocked off.
10:15If anyone has a fully finished cocktail dress, over here.
10:20I work best under pressure.
10:24Some of the designers are still struggling.
10:29I'm a little nervous about the timeline that they've given us.
10:32You work, you work, you work.
10:33And I know I'll still be sewing as Tim rips the needle out of my hand to drag me to the runway.
10:38Coming up on Project Runway.
10:43I don't want it to look like a smurf prom dress.
10:46Don't use that word again.
10:47I am a complete wreck as usual.
10:49What the hell do I do in this place?
10:51I mean, I will say it's a bold color.
10:54It's just looking like she's been rolling around in bed.
10:57Hi, everyone.
11:10Hi, Tim.
11:11How is everybody?
11:13Good.
11:13Good.
11:14I'm just here to check in on you.
11:16Althea.
11:16Hey.
11:17How are you?
11:18Good.
11:18My model wants, like, a black look that's a simple skirt that shows off her legs.
11:24And then, like, a man's cigarette jacket that sort of goes with it.
11:28It's a cigarette jacket.
11:29You mean a smoking jacket?
11:31Like a smoking jacket.
11:31Okay.
11:31Sorry.
11:32And then for the belt, I'm thinking of kind of four times over doing, like, a stitch on top of that.
11:39Just, you know, layering.
11:40I like it.
11:41I don't think it has to look like a cummerbund.
11:43I think it can just look like a sash.
11:44And that's true.
11:46It actually might, with the black seating and then the...
11:48You know, because it could go there.
11:49This has definitely a wow factor potential.
11:52I can't wait to see it.
11:53Yeah, I'm excited for it.
11:55I am, too.
11:55Thanks, Tim.
11:58Oh, hey.
11:58Talk to me.
11:59All right.
12:00So I had a consultation with my model.
12:02She wanted to accentuate that she has a small waist and it's a long torso.
12:09So what about the color decision?
12:11So the color, she really wanted to go with a green, an emble green, and I love playing with the color.
12:17It's, I mean, I will say it's a bold color.
12:20It's a bold color.
12:21Tim's going to say she looks like a salad.
12:26Thanks, Christopher.
12:27Epperson, talk to me.
12:29This is the direction she wanted to go in.
12:31Sexy, romantic, flowing, or strong punk.
12:34See, from flowing to strong punk.
12:36What?
12:36I know, totally, totally.
12:37Wow.
12:39Flowy, strong punk, cocktail tiger.
12:43Well, this is chic.
12:44I got chic.
12:45There's also innovation in what you're doing there.
12:48At least from here to here.
12:49I mean, I wouldn't touch it.
12:51I think it's beautiful.
12:52Okay.
12:52Just the Epperson.
12:55Okay.
12:57Hello, Crystal.
12:58Good.
12:59Talk to me.
13:00What I wanted to do was kind of use a fabric that has some stability in it that would really,
13:05you know, show off her curves.
13:07My concern about this is that it looks, and forgive me for this blunt word, it looks messy.
13:13It's just looking like she's been rolling around in bed.
13:16Okay.
13:17Well, we don't want that.
13:18We don't want that.
13:20Well, time-wise, you need to make decisions.
13:22All right, well, I've got a lot of work to do there.
13:25Go, go, go.
13:30Hi, Logan.
13:31Hi, Tim.
13:33How are things?
13:35Kind of a work in progress.
13:37I don't want it to look like, I don't know, like a Smurf prom dress or something, you know?
13:42Well, now that you've said Smurf, you shouldn't have.
13:44Don't use that word again.
13:45Don't blend it in anybody's head.
13:48I've never really worked with a lot of lace before, so I've just kind of been...
13:51It doesn't surprise me a bit.
13:52It's a real experimental thing for me.
13:54You have a conundrum.
13:55I know.
13:57You really do.
14:06Carol Hannah.
14:07Hi, Tim.
14:08Talk to me.
14:09So I really wanted to give her an emphasis on the waist, show off her bust, and then, you
14:15know, stay close to the body.
14:17I mean, the one comment I'm going to make about the top is this design robbing your model of
14:24her youth.
14:26Okay?
14:32Designers, I just want you to know I am extremely excited by all the potential in this room.
14:38Soon, your models will be coming in for a fitting.
14:41So take advantage of that time.
14:43Take care.
14:43Have fun with your models.
14:45But not too much fun.
14:48With this challenge, like any other challenge, I'm basically focusing on doing my best.
15:02My family is constantly on my mind.
15:04I want them to be proud of me.
15:07Hey.
15:08How are you?
15:10I'm good.
15:11We're good.
15:12We're great.
15:13We're missing you.
15:15We're, you know, they're doing okay.
15:20How's Hila and Chila?
15:22Hi, Hila.
15:24Hi, Hila.
15:24How are you?
15:26I love you.
15:28Love you, love you, love you.
15:29Kiss everybody.
15:30Everybody kiss everybody for me, okay?
15:34It's so hard being away from my family.
15:37It's the hardest thing I've ever experienced.
15:40I love you.
15:41Bye, honey.
15:43Bye, babe.
15:43Love you.
15:44Bye.
15:44Love you.
15:45Bye.
15:46Love you.
15:47I hope all of this pays off because I choose not to ever be away from him like this again.
15:54Bye.
15:55Bye.
15:56Bye.
15:57Bye.
15:58Bye.
15:59Bye.
16:00Bye.
16:01Bye.
16:02Bye.
16:03Bye.
16:04Bye.
16:05Bye.
16:06Bye.
16:07Bye.
16:08Bye.
16:09Bye.
16:10Bye.
16:11Bye.
16:12Bye.
16:13Bye.
16:14Bye.
16:15Bye.
16:16Bye.
16:17Bye.
16:18Bye.
16:19Bye.
16:20Bye.
16:21Bye.
16:22Bye.
16:23Bye.
16:24Bye.
16:25Bye.
16:26Bye.
16:27Bye.
16:28Bye.
16:29Come on, it's just way too much beauty happening.
16:33Hey girl.
16:33Hey.
16:34How's it going?
16:36Good.
16:37I hope you like this color.
16:39Hi.
16:40Oh my god, I'm loving this right now.
16:42It's totally getting there.
16:44First, this is the only orange they had.
16:47Cheap.
16:48Yeah, a little too much.
16:50Then I started working with this.
16:52That's awful.
16:53This is just bad.
16:55So I'm like, OK, she wants an orange, she wants an orange.
16:57And I went with my own instincts.
16:59I've worked with so many different celebrities
17:01and different people, and they trust my judgment.
17:03So why am I so concerned with this situation
17:06when I know that I want to make her look the best she can?
17:10I didn't like this.
17:11Great, great, great, great, great.
17:15You want more cleavage?
17:16You want more?
17:16Yes.
17:17Well, you're the one who said you didn't want a lot of cleavage.
17:20Wait, no, no, no, not too low, just more cleavage.
17:21It's fine, it's fine, it's fine.
17:22Honey, please don't tell me what to do.
17:24I don't ever tell you how to model.
17:25Oh, yes, I do tell you how to model, don't I?
17:29Longer?
17:30Yeah, yeah, longer, not sure.
17:31Keep going, Char-Tar.
17:32Char-Tar, I want that Char-Tar to hang out.
17:34You don't like it.
17:35No?
17:36I can tell you don't.
17:37You always say that.
17:38I can tell you don't like it.
17:39What are you talking about?
17:40OK, show me how you're going to walk with this.
17:42I tend to get a little anxious, and anxiety is not a good thing to have when you're designing,
17:49because you've got to really just trust your gut.
17:50I swear this is exactly what I envisioned.
17:51And I wanted it black.
17:52And I wanted it black from the get-go, too.
17:53This is even more amazing than I had expected it, like I had envisioned it.
17:57At this point I'm just really trying to focus on what's important and what do I need to get
18:04done now.
18:05It's just a lot of the little hand work about the tailoring that I really want to have
18:22the time to do perfect.
18:24We're all nervous about our ideas screwing you all up.
18:28As long as I send something down the runway that I'm proud of, then it doesn't really matter.
18:33But it's definitely nerve-wracking.
18:36I made her into kind of this gothic Cinderella, and she loves the look, but at the same time,
18:43she would go to the party and people might be looking at her for the wrong reasons.
18:47I think the fit in here right now is beautiful.
18:50My garment is at about 85%.
18:53I still have to do the zipper, I have to insert the collar, I have to hem it, blah, blah, blah.
18:58I am a complete wreck as usual.
19:00OK.
19:01The dress is fitting Valerie very nicely.
19:04It's showing off her silhouette.
19:06The only thing I'm a little concerned about is that it might be a little too simple.
19:10It would be cute.
19:11In the front, OK, so I was adding, I was playing with some of these.
19:16So, yeah, I don't know.
19:17Oh, OK.
19:18I mean, if you don't want it, we can take it off.
19:19You didn't want to just use this material?
19:20Like...
19:21My garment is still in pieces.
19:22So she's kind of really hesitant.
19:23For people who don't know construction, it's really hard for them to envision it when it's
19:26just in pieces.
19:27But she trusts me and I hope she trusts me.
19:28Have a good night.
19:29OK.
19:30As I look around the room, I notice that my garment is completely different than everyone else's.
19:34It's not done yet.
19:35Don't judge.
19:36Don't judge.
19:37OK.
19:38OK.
19:39It's not done yet.
19:40Don't judge.
19:41He's not done.
19:42He's not done yet.
19:43He's not done yet.
19:44But really?
19:45It's not done yet.
19:46And for people who don't know construction, it's really hard for them to envision it when
19:48it's just in pieces.
19:49But she trusts me and I hope she trusts me.
19:51You have a good night!
19:52OK.
19:53As I look around the room, I notice that my garment's completely different than everyone else's.
19:56It's not done yet.
19:57Don't judge.
19:59As I leave the workroom, the only thing I'm thinking is, get a good night's sleep because
20:11it's going to be two hours of hell tomorrow morning.
20:16Coming up on Project Runway.
20:17You have ten minutes.
20:18Oh no, I just broke the needle.
20:22I definitely still have a lot of doubts.
20:24I hope it comes together.
20:26I can't.
20:27I'm like about to cry.
20:29I can't compete with your sexiness right now, Logan.
20:40Are you wearing silver shoes too?
20:42Yeah.
20:43It'll distract Heidi from staring at my dress so long.
20:47You, Logan, are in.
20:52I'm nervous about the runway show.
20:55Just thinking to myself, you know, Crystal, you pull things off at the last minute.
20:58Before.
20:59But this is where a designer has to really think creatively.
21:03Runway, here we come.
21:13Morning of the runway show, I come in.
21:15I take one more look over my dress, which is what I always do.
21:17Just to give it a look to see if I need to add anything real quick or if I need to take anything away.
21:21It's a great bony hat.
21:22Love it.
21:23Are you going to wear it?
21:24Yes, I'm going to wear it today on the runway.
21:28If someone was to say, like, make a 50s dress, I'd be like, what?
21:36It's kind of this mix of 1950s and like Marilyn Manson goth or something.
21:41Koji is a little bit different than most of the other models, which I like.
21:46So she's got a little bit more of an edge to her.
21:48I pleased my client, but at the same time, it's not really my aesthetic.
21:52So I hope the judges like it.
21:57Are you working it out, Crystal?
21:58Hey, I'm good.
22:00I'm definitely up against the clock, but I don't want to just do anything.
22:03But I can do it and I will do it.
22:05Even though I would have preferred to have done a color.
22:07You know, every woman likes a nice chic black dress in their closet.
22:15Good morning, designers.
22:17Good morning, Dan.
22:18I'm about to send in your models.
22:20You have two hours to send them to the Garnier hair studio
22:23and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
22:25Please use the Macy's accessory wall thoughtfully.
22:29All right.
22:30But two hours and then we are all walking to the runway.
22:33All right.
22:34Okay.
22:35I'll be back.
22:36I'm sending in your models.
22:40Hey.
22:41How are you?
22:42How are you?
22:43I'm good.
22:44How are you?
22:45They're either going to love it or they're going to hate it.
22:47So I've made something that I've never really made before.
22:50And I'm happy that I am not just playing it safe.
22:56I feel really excited today.
22:58I'm not really nervous because I'm really confident in what I made.
23:03Oh my God.
23:04You look killer.
23:05Is it so cute?
23:06Most people were getting dresses made and I was getting like a three piece outfit.
23:11So I know that was a big challenge for her and she really impressed me.
23:15There's still a lot of people that aren't finished.
23:18No one's really looks like crap, but I did think Althea's would look like crap.
23:23I mean, I think it would have looked nicer if she stapled it together to be quite frank.
23:28Oh my God.
23:29It's perfect.
23:30It's perfect.
23:31I think the people that are going to be in the bottom are definitely Epperson because that just looks like a rag.
23:36And then Johnny's garment looks like he just threw in a dryer or just like stomped on it and it's awful.
23:43Epperson's dress is one of those dresses that you could see the judges hating or loving.
23:50I get it because I know he likes to shred pieces and reattach them.
23:55So it's definitely his aesthetic.
23:57It's going to be only time will tell if the judges get it.
24:08The hair and makeup is really important with the straps.
24:11It looks pretty.
24:12Do you like it?
24:13Yeah.
24:18Oh, I love it.
24:19I love it.
24:20Designers, you have ten minutes.
24:28All right, and I mean it.
24:29We're going to have a nice smooth exit, aren't we?
24:31Yes.
24:36Oh no, I just broke the needle.
24:41You're about to feel it.
24:42The needle go right into that bag.
24:45I can't.
24:46I'm like about to crack.
24:47I am feeling very stressed.
24:48I'm wishing that I have more time to complete it.
24:53I'm probably more nervous just because
24:55the garment isn't all me.
24:57Designers and models, this is it.
25:00We're going to the runway, and we are going to have
25:03a fabulous show.
25:09Hepperson, Louise.
25:16That's it. Thank you, everybody.
25:18Coming up on Project Runway.
25:22You've just aged her 10, 15 years,
25:24which for the model world is like dog years.
25:36Hello. Hi.
25:38Welcome to the runway.
25:40As you know, in fashion, one day you're in,
25:42and the next day, you're out.
25:44For this challenge, the tables were turned.
25:47Usually, your models work for you, but this week,
25:51you had to work for them.
25:53You had to create a look that would make them stand out
25:56and be noticed at an industry event.
25:59You had $100 in one day to put it together.
26:03All right, let's meet the judges.
26:07First, we have American designer, Mark Bauer.
26:09Filling in for Nina Garcia, we have editor for
26:12Marie Claire Magazine, Zoe Glasner.
26:15An award-winning costume designer and top celebrity stylist,
26:18whose clientele includes Angelina Jolie, Jen, Raid.
26:24We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
26:26One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
26:30Let's start the show.
26:37I think my dress really shows off her curves.
26:42I would have still preferred a little bit of color on the runway,
26:46but I really feel like this dress, she can rock to an event.
26:52Celine looks absolutely amazing.
26:54Oh, my God.
26:55I actually have a chance of winning this.
26:57She is the only one that looks extremely chic,
27:00and I tailored it to the T.
27:02It's very much what I do, and she looks like a lady,
27:09which is what she wanted, so mission accomplished.
27:17It fits her perfectly.
27:19It's done to perfection.
27:20There are no pins in it or whatever, so I am confident.
27:26The color looks gorgeous on her.
27:28It's not something that if they had told me,
27:30hey, make an outfit for this model that I would have made,
27:33but the dress looks great.
27:39Cody's walk is fierce,
27:40so I think that it's definitely a fun look.
27:44I did take a risk,
27:45but I'm happy that I'm pushing myself in different directions.
27:51Katie walks down with such elation.
27:54It's really exciting to see that she's happy
27:56in the garment I created for her.
28:00My client's idea with my idea was perfect.
28:05She's romantic and then rough.
28:08I'm like elegant and in jagged edges.
28:10I feel like no one else is doing what I'm doing here.
28:15She loved everything about what I put her in.
28:17She wanted to look hot and girly at the same time.
28:19That's what I think I did for her.
28:21I am so happy because Tanisha looks so good in it.
28:31I feel like my client's happy and I feel like it definitely represents me as a designer.
28:37I'm very excited about my dress and I think Fatma looks absolutely stunning in it.
28:40I think the overall presentation of the dress is really wow worthy.
28:51As Vanessa comes out, I still love it.
28:53Do I think maybe I could have pushed it further?
28:56Maybe.
29:00My goal was to make something for Lisa so that when she walks in,
29:04I want people to just turn around and go wow.
29:08I nailed it.
29:10I definitely nailed it.
29:11If I call your name, please step forward.
29:19Louise.
29:21Irina.
29:24Christopher.
29:26Nicolas.
29:28Jordana.
29:31Shirin.
29:33Ramon.
29:36If I have called your name,
29:38Congratulations.
29:40Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
29:44You can leave the runway.
29:50The remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores.
29:54One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
29:58Let's bring out your models.
29:59Let's bring out your models.
30:07I would like to start with Carol Hannah.
30:10Was it easy to work with her?
30:12Lisa is amazing.
30:14I tried to kind of feel out what side of her personality she really wanted to show.
30:17And then I took that and tried to infuse my style in it.
30:21This is just beautifully executed.
30:23I mean the juxtaposition of that draping with the sharp edge skirts is really beautiful.
30:28I think you did a really great job so well done.
30:33I think it's really sophisticated but not stuffy at all.
30:37It's just a good mix of soft and hard but still edgy.
30:41It's very cool.
30:43It's really good to hear that you'll see the juxtaposition of the soft with the hard because that's really kind of the core of my aesthetic.
30:51Did you just say y'all?
30:53That's so cute.
30:54I'm in Charleston.
30:56Alright, let's move on to Logan.
30:58Let's hear from your model what she wanted to look like.
31:01I like lace, I like feathers and I think that's what you got.
31:06I wrote down no cheap tacky prom.
31:09I wrote prom too.
31:10Yeah.
31:12It's the unfortunate thing.
31:13I think it's a mix of the lace or something.
31:14Yeah, well it doesn't look like lace on the top there, it looks a little thick.
31:18When I purchased a lace and when I got it back to the workroom I looked at it and it was just this more of a floral print so I actually doubled up the lace to kind of try to get rid of it.
31:27And I think that's the problem because it just reads too black.
31:31Do you like it?
31:32The silhouette is definitely a little bit different than what I normally work with.
31:36I actually almost scratched this whole idea of the bottom and made it into a pencil.
31:40You totally should have.
31:41I mean that's a classic example of you have to listen to your first instinct.
31:44Correct.
31:46You're really cute and I like your pants and your sneakers.
31:50I hope that helps me so much.
31:51That does.
31:52For sure.
31:56I would like to know from Matar what you wanted.
32:00Something that is romantic and punk at the same time.
32:04And I also wanted something that is animal inspired.
32:07Why is that?
32:08Do you feel like you have the kitty cat inside of you?
32:10Right?
32:11Yeah I like it to you know kind of tiger fit from the hair.
32:16I love the dress.
32:18I know how difficult it is to take stretch fabrics and applique them on top of each other and you did an incredible job.
32:26I mean I do a lot of the lattice mixing over but you know with stretch fabric it was difficult.
32:32Well you're a craftsman and it's obvious.
32:34You've taken a simple silhouette which we've seen a million times and you've given it literally a new twist.
32:39Wow.
32:40Thank you so much.
32:41I love the dress very much.
32:42I think she looks really sexy in it but she needs help up top.
32:47You know?
32:48Yes.
32:49To me it's okay.
32:50Maybe it's because I've been working for Victoria's Secret for too long.
32:52For me they have to be perky and they have to be in the right spot.
32:55This says to me this guy has a concept of how clothing is made.
33:00He's bringing some things unique and different.
33:02Job well done.
33:05Let's continue with Johnny.
33:07What did you want?
33:08Okay.
33:09Um, I wanted something purple.
33:12Just fun, flirty, young, pretty.
33:15Here's what I wrote on my card.
33:17The purse is the most interesting thing about this outfit.
33:20It's a cute dress but it doesn't really show me anything unique about your design aesthetic.
33:28The world really doesn't need more of that dress.
33:32To me it looks very bridesmaid.
33:35If she had like the flowers in her hand like this and there would be four more.
33:41It's like a blessing and a curse in the fashion world.
33:45Wearable.
33:46I understand completely.
33:47So on the one hand you're like oh super you know.
33:49On the other hand you're like yeah I'm wearable.
33:51I appreciate all your criticism.
33:53I really do.
33:54Because that way when I go forward I use that as a stepping stone.
33:57Yeah.
33:58That's very smart.
34:00Crystal.
34:02Valerie tell us what did you want?
34:05I wanted a dark color.
34:06I wanted something that was effortless chic.
34:10And I wanted it above the knee.
34:12I feel like she does not look youthful to me.
34:15You've just aged her 10-15 years.
34:19Which for the model world is like dog years.
34:23Why of all the fabrics that exist in downtown Los Angeles would you pick the most plain black?
34:29Is that like a jersey or something?
34:30It was a really pretty green color.
34:32Yeah.
34:33I just wasn't sure.
34:34But that's what happened is you didn't take a risk.
34:35You went with the safest thing.
34:37And honestly that never pays off.
34:39Valerie do you like your dress?
34:41Yeah I do.
34:42But that's why Valerie's not a designer.
34:44Right?
34:45Yeah.
34:46Thank God.
34:49Althea how was it working with your model?
34:51She's great because I think she comes with a great sense of style.
34:54So that was easy to work with.
34:56I have to say you were one of the best walkers today on the runway.
35:00Oh thank you.
35:01You strutted like you meant it.
35:03This is why I never let anyone take her.
35:06I liked it very much.
35:07I thought it was very chic.
35:09Like I would literally buy this right now tomorrow for a client.
35:12Like I want it.
35:13I want to leave here with that jacket on my arms.
35:15Okay?
35:16Love the shoes, the fabric.
35:17It's just so simple but really really well done.
35:20Love it.
35:21I too want to walk out of there with it.
35:23I mean I think I've worn a suit once in my life and hung my head afterwards.
35:27This is a suit.
35:28Wow thank you very much.
35:32Okay we've heard what you had to say.
35:34We're going to have a little chat and then we'll call you back.
35:37You can leave the runway.
35:47Let's start with who we didn't like.
35:52Crystal.
35:53When you create something in black it usually looks much better than color.
35:57You can get away with murder.
35:58And I think she succeeded in making a simple black dress look kind of cheap.
36:02The challenge was to make the model stand out at an industry party.
36:05Which she didn't do.
36:07She basically looked like the girl that was serving the drinks.
36:09Where you would be like excuse me ma'am.
36:11Can I have another glass of champagne?
36:12Okay let's move on to Logan.
36:17I just think she gave him lace.
36:20She gave him 50s.
36:21She gave him feathers.
36:22He could have done something very cool.
36:24I mean that dress was just.
36:25He did get too sucked in to buy what his model wanted.
36:29And kind of like lost his way a little bit.
36:33Johnny.
36:35It was safe.
36:36Worrying and too accessible.
36:38Anybody could wear that and who cares.
36:40You have to push the envelope a little bit.
36:42You know that's why we're not responding to a black dress.
36:45Yes.
36:46You know or to a prom dress.
36:49So let's talk about then who we did like.
36:53Althea.
36:54I loved Althea's.
36:56That was for me a breath of fresh air.
36:58And she made three pieces.
37:00All that could work great individually.
37:03Great together.
37:04The model felt it.
37:05The model worked it.
37:06All right let's talk about Carol Hannah.
37:10I think she did a fabulous job too.
37:12I thought her model looked really classy.
37:15You know had a little bit of sex appeal.
37:17You know it was draped and very sweet.
37:18But the side was very bare.
37:20It was very well executed.
37:22Great.
37:23Beautiful.
37:24It's so important how clothes move.
37:25They look great static is one thing.
37:26But these clothes have to function in a real world.
37:28And that moved beautifully.
37:29I do like Epperson I think that he showed today something that he can be edgy.
37:36It looked like it was painted on and that is the true test of someone who really knows how to make clothes.
37:42Yeah.
37:43It was sexy and chic.
37:44In terms of body you could see the body on that model the best.
37:48Yeah.
37:49I take your point about her boobs though.
37:50I think she was flat chested.
37:51I'm just obsessed about boobs.
37:52That's just my thing.
37:53It was definitely a new bra situation.
37:54It's a new bra.
37:55It was a new bra situation.
37:56Or a no boob model.
37:57And there are many of them out there who are very famous.
38:01Yes.
38:02So we've made our decision?
38:07I think so.
38:08All right.
38:09Let's bring them back out.
38:10The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:26One of you will be named the winner.
38:29And one of you will be out.
38:39The six of you represent the best and the worst.
38:42One of you will be named the winner.
38:44And one of you will be out.
38:47Epperson.
38:48Yes.
38:49You're in.
38:50You can leave the runway.
38:51Okay.
38:52Bye.
38:53Athea.
38:54You are the winner of this challenge.
38:55You also have immunity for the next challenge and cannot be eliminated.
39:00You can leave the runway.
39:01Thank you guys very much.
39:05Thank you guys very much.
39:06You won.
39:07Yes.
39:08It feels good because I've been the top three before and I just really wanted that win.
39:12Carol Hannah, you're in.
39:13You can leave the runway.
39:15Carol Hannah, you're in.
39:19You can leave the runway.
39:22Johnny, you're in.
39:25Johnny.
39:26You're in.
39:27You can leave the runway.
39:29Johnny, you're in.
39:32You can leave the runway.
39:35Johnny, you're in.
39:36You can leave the runway.
39:50Crystal, Logan, one of you will be out.
40:07Crystal, your black cocktail dress is boring and unfortunately looks cheap.
40:14You didn't take any chances and that's something a successful designer needs to do.
40:19It's true.
40:20It's true.
40:21Logan, your model would stand out at a party but for all the wrong reasons.
40:28From fabric choice and styling to silhouette, it really missed the mark.
40:40Logan, you're in.
40:45You can leave the runway.
40:47Don't worry.
40:48That means, Crystal, you're out.
40:49Thank you for such an amazing opportunity.
40:50This was a dream come true.
40:52So thank you.
40:53Auf Wiedersehen.
40:54It's a little too soon for me to have been eliminated, I feel.
40:55Crystal, you're good at what you do.
40:56Just keep doing it.
40:57Aw, it's all good.
40:58Aw, it's all good.
40:59I have a lot more to show and a lot more to prove and I didn't get it.
41:02You know, I didn't get that chance.
41:03So, I have to deliver the line.
41:04I have to send you an amazing opportunity.
41:05It was an amazing opportunity.
41:06It was a dream come true.
41:08So thank you.
41:09Auf Wiedersehen.
41:10I feel so you're good at what you do.
41:11Just keep doing it.
41:12Aw, it's all good.
41:13I have a lot more to show and a lot more to prove and, you know, I didn't get that chance.
41:28So, I have to deliver the line.
41:29I have to send you to the workroom to clean up your space.
41:34Do I think I'm a great designer?
41:36I know I'm a great designer.
41:38Am I going to still keep moving forward?
41:40Absolutely, I am.
41:41I've been doing this for a long time.
41:43This is all I've ever wanted to be.
41:48Next week on Project Runway,
41:50this challenge will definitely be tough,
41:53but the answers will all be in black and white.
41:57This is the fabric for your challenge.
41:59I'm speechless.
