00:01Previously on Project Runway,
00:03your challenge will be to design a pregnancy chic look for Rebecca Romijn.
00:08Oh, . Pregnancy challenge.
00:10Oh, my God. The shorts are looking sloppy.
00:13The concept is fertility.
00:14She's fertile.
00:15It's her egg.
00:16Melvin.
00:17Imagine yourself saying that on the runway.
00:23Congratulations, Shirin.
00:27The shorts are too short.
00:28The t-shirt's too tight.
00:30Your chicken egg look was just too bizarre.
00:33You're out.
00:34Mitchell, you just squeaked by.
00:37You have to show us that you deserve to be here.
00:41This is Project Runway.
00:43Of course I'm the best.
00:44Let's do this.
00:45The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:48I have to win.
00:49You better watch out.
00:5016 designers.
00:52Ivan, you're out.
00:53Don't get cut.
00:54Three finalists will make it to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
00:57I'm the best designer here.
00:59I have no fear.
01:00Make it work.
01:01That's my one.
01:02But only one can be the winner.
01:04This is my dream.
01:06For these 16 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:10The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie-Claire magazine, a Paris vacation courtesy of Avion, and $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line.
01:23Another day, another dollar.
01:38The chopping block.
01:40The fact that one decision could be the factor that could send me home is a really scary one.
01:46I don't want to go home.
01:47I know there's a lot more that I can bring to this competition.
01:51Well, I don't wish the bottom three on any of you.
01:55After being the bottom two again, I am worried.
01:58I'm concerned.
01:59I'm frustrated.
02:00But I want to stay in this competition.
02:03I just need to keep working on it.
02:08Hi, everybody.
02:09Hi, everybody.
02:11Shirin, you won the last challenge, which gives you immunity and you cannot be eliminated.
02:18Congratulations.
02:19Well, I think it's time for another little field trip.
02:24And no visit to California is complete without going to this next destination.
02:29A little hint.
02:31Don't forget your sunscreen.
02:32I'll see you on the runway.
02:34Bye.
02:35What were the other clues?
02:47You can't leave California without going to this.
02:52And being from California, the first thing that pops into my head is the beach.
02:55Ooh, at the beach.
02:56You're Santa Monica Pier right there.
02:58We don't have oceans in Minnesota, so it's kind of nice to see the ocean for the first time.
03:03So we're walking down the beach and we see Tim Gunn in sandals and sunglasses, but still in a blazer.
03:13Hi, guys.
03:14Hi.
03:15Tim Gunn in flip flops, it's a stretch.
03:18Only at the beach.
03:20Good morning, designers, and welcome to the heart of California, the beach.
03:26Yeah.
03:27As I'm certain you've anticipated, we're going to explore beach and surfing.
03:32Today, California surfwear has an identity of its own, one that's evolved beyond the Golden State and has transitioned from sea and sand to the street.
03:42These gorgeous young women behind me personify surf culture and style.
03:46For this challenge, you are to create a fun and fashionable surfwear look.
03:51It's critical that this look be totally infused with your point of view as a designer.
03:56And as you all know by now, it's also critical that you wow the judges with impeccable craftsmanship and style.
04:03And for this Garnier challenge, you're going to wow them with the perfect hairstyle on your model.
04:08And here to tell you more about that is Philip Carrion from Garnier.
04:12At Garnier, we believe that no design is complete without the perfect hairstyle.
04:17So, my team and I are going to get together with you and create a gorgeous, just off the beach look for your models.
04:24Designers, for this challenge, you will be working in teams of two.
04:28The moment Tim says this is a team challenge, the bottom of my stomach sinks, because it really is the format for anything can happen.
04:42Sherin, as the winner of the last challenge, you are a team leader and you will be the first to choose your team mate.
04:49So, come stand right over here.
04:51All right, our next team leader is Logan and Nicholas.
04:57Mitchell, Althea, followed by Crystal.
05:03And our final team leader is Johnny.
05:06All right, team leaders, you are going to pick your teammates in the order in which I selected you, beginning with Sherin.
05:13I would like to work with Carol Hanna.
05:16Logan, you're next.
05:22I would like the opportunity to work with Christopher.
05:25Nicholas.
05:27Jordana.
05:31Mitchell.
05:32I'd like to work with Rahman.
05:34I chose to work with Rahman.
05:37I wanted to work with someone that could carry me on this challenge.
05:41Althea.
05:42Since you were in the top three last time, I'm going to go with you.
05:48Crystal.
05:49Oh, boy.
05:50This is tough.
05:51But I'm going to choose Epperson.
05:53Johnny, you're teamed with Irina.
06:00The always beautiful Irina.
06:02All right, teams.
06:05I'm going to give you 20 minutes to caucus.
06:07Use that time to determine the design direction of your surfwear look and to determine which of your two models you're going to use.
06:14And please engage with our lovely surfers because they have valuable information for you, I'm certain.
06:19Your 20 minutes begins now.
06:22Where are my California girls at?
06:24California.
06:25I think that would be really cute if, like, she walked on and she had a dress on.
06:28Like, if she was, like, on the runway, she was like...
06:31She dropped it down and then showed off a really hot bathing suit.
06:34Okay.
06:35It's cute.
06:36It helps to have actual surfer girls to talk to.
06:38Being comfortable is really big for me.
06:40I don't want to be restricted.
06:41They like functionality over actual fashion.
06:45What are your, like, inspirations or favorite colors and things like that?
06:48I think a lot of surf fashion kind of draws from the colors that you would see in a sunset or in a tropical reef.
06:55This is a Brazilian bikini.
06:56Totally different.
06:57I just put it on.
06:58That makes sense.
06:59Being with Mitchell, I feel like I have this giant bullseye painted directly in the middle of my face.
07:05He's been in the bottom two twice.
07:07Even though he's the leader, I feel like I need to step in and give a little guidance for what we should be doing.
07:13Give me an idea of what you guys like.
07:15In the water?
07:16Yeah.
07:17Let's start with that.
07:18I think we should go out in the water.
07:19I think we really need to have out in the water.
07:20I think that's fine.
07:21Let's go out in the water.
07:22I think that's fine.
07:23Let's go out in the water.
07:24I'm the captain, so I chose Epperson.
07:26You know, I just really think he's talented, but I'm getting the feeling like it's almost like a teacher-student type of thing.
07:32I'm not no damn student.
07:33For California, and, like, hoodies are sometimes good.
07:38It's interesting.
07:39We have to talk to these surfer girls, and I don't know what the hell she was talking about, but that's hoodies and little sweatshirts,
07:46and not for the runway.
07:47All right, design teams, each team has a $50 budget, and you have 15 minutes to shop.
07:59What?
08:00So get going.
08:01I'm gonna grab it.
08:02You take it to cut.
08:03Okay.
08:04Jaren and I have kind of an idea in our head to do basically a dress that turns into a swimsuit.
08:13Over here?
08:14Just too light.
08:15We're gonna have to make some sort of compromise.
08:18We're having a little bit of trouble because you have to make the decisions together.
08:22Okay, we don't have time.
08:23Maybe I can solve it.
08:24Look at this.
08:25Look at this.
08:26No, no, no.
08:27It's not mixed prints.
08:28No, no, no, no.
08:29But we need a solid.
08:30Okay, well...
08:31Like, I like these two.
08:32Not together, of course.
08:33I'm just saying.
08:34Okay, we're running out of time now.
08:35What's this?
08:36We don't want that feeling.
08:37Yeah, but I...
08:38Epperson is my partner, but we were clashing.
08:39There's no time to bicker and argue in a fight.
08:45Designers, you have five minutes remaining.
08:49Is anyone listening to me?
08:51Yes, sir.
08:52Yes, sir.
08:53We got, like, limited time, so let's grab everything that we're inspired by.
08:58Rahman and I are not agreeing about anything at Mood.
09:01We have different design aesthetics.
09:02He has picked out some pretty, pretty ugly things, and I think we're going to be in trouble.
09:08You're in one thing you want.
09:10Designers, Tullin.
09:13Thank you, Mood.
09:14Thank you, Mood.
09:15Bye.
09:19The vision for our look is bohemian chic.
09:23It's, you know, it's, I look cool, but it's so effortless, I don't care.
09:28I think this is going to be so hippie.
09:30I think it's going to be hot.
09:32It's going to be, like, super hippies, like, hippie.
09:35Beachy, cute, chic.
09:37Once this becomes blue, because right now it looks a little bit like zebra.
09:41Mm-hmm.
09:42Like animalistic, which we'll get rid of, because I don't want it to be zebra.
09:45No, me neither.
09:46No animal prints, ever.
09:47My vision right now is an amazing silhouette.
09:50Like, I'm going to bring back the wraparound pant, and underneath I'm doing an amazing bathing suit,
09:56which I'm going to hand-dye the fabric, and then do, like, an ombre of macrame.
10:00Can you say that a million times, ombre of macrame?
10:03It has to be perfect.
10:07It can't be, hmm, why is the top like that?
10:10Exactly, no visa.
10:11Because that's the look for everything.
10:12No, no, no, don't change it.
10:13For that reason.
10:14I'm not changing it.
10:15The choice of fabrics was, like, a bright, bright green color that I would have never used, but I'm the assistant.
10:24I need some Tylenol.
10:25Oh, yeah, I just took some, too.
10:27The tension, I think, is basically is because we're fearful of what could happen.
10:34I'm going into the machine.
10:36Okay.
10:37To put these together.
10:39You go.
10:40I'm just going to do this.
10:51That's fine.
10:52That's not what I need to hear.
10:54In our relationship, I can't always tell you that you're perfect, okay?
10:59You know, I know I'm a strong personality, but it's really important to me really not knowing where this is going to shake out,
11:06that, you know, we're as strong as we can be.
11:08So, yeah, I'm pulling the weight.
11:11I'll be right back.
11:13Suddenly, I feel like I'm the captain of the team, and that's not necessarily a place I want it to be.
11:22What does that say on your arm?
11:23I wanted to ask you that.
11:25Yes.
11:26Keep on working.
11:29No talking.
11:30I'm the captain.
11:31You go away.
11:32Oh, little lamb.
11:35Isn't she precious when she gets all worked up?
11:39Designers, I have a message from Heidi and the judges.
11:44We are raising the stakes.
11:48For this challenge, each team must create a second look.
11:57Ladies and gentlemen, capital WTF.
12:02Coming up on Project Runway.
12:04We have to understand each other.
12:05You can't make a mistake.
12:06I don't have nothing else to say.
12:07I'm good.
12:08You know what? Game on.
12:09I'm trying to keep Mitchell as focused as possible.
12:12Ow!
12:13I'll be the same bitches.
12:22I have a message from Heidi and the judges.
12:25Each team must create a second look.
12:28This second look will be an avant-garde design that corresponds to your California surfwear inspired design.
12:41Both looks will walk the runway.
12:43Both hairstyles will be overseen by Garnier.
12:47So digest this.
12:49Avant-garde is something I think that's really fun and amazing.
12:53But I can't imagine how we're going to be able to fit in another piece and have it look the way it needs to look to be avant-garde for the runway.
13:03You have tonight to come up with a design.
13:06Tomorrow, I'm taking you to Mood with a budget of $200.
13:14But I want to suggest this.
13:15I want only one team member to go with me to Mood.
13:18All right?
13:19The other team member should be here working.
13:22All right, thank you everyone.
13:23We can finish this tonight and then go crazy tomorrow.
13:26Okay, yeah.
13:27We've got this.
13:28That's a good point.
13:29But we both need to work our asses off.
13:35When we're sewing it, you've got to turn this over so when pulling it back out, it's going to be on the right side.
13:40Everson, you think I don't know that?
13:41You think I'm going to sew it like that?
13:43I'm the captain and I just don't feel like the captain.
13:46I wanted to be a good team player and have his input as well.
13:49But I just feel like he's really pretty much taken over.
13:52And that's very frustrating and annoying.
13:54And personally, I'm insulted.
13:55I think it'll work.
13:58I've always said, you know, expect the unexpected and we really got a huge taste of that today.
14:05We now have barely a day to do two things together.
14:11Awesome.
14:13I'm done.
14:14All right, designers, you have 20 minutes to make it work.
14:30Go, go, go.
14:31I definitely have this vision in my head and so I'm really happy that I get to go pick out the fabrics.
14:36So for our avant-garde piece, it is inspired on the concept of the wetsuit but will have very fluid shapes added to it.
14:48And I can fold it for you.
14:50Designers, you have five minutes remaining.
15:03Thank you, Mood.
15:05Thank you so much.
15:16I have wonderful ideas in my head but technically I'm in trouble.
15:20I'm in big, big trouble.
15:21I think he wishes I knew how to sew a swimsuit.
15:25Fabulous.
15:26So I get back from shopping and I come into the room and I'm so pleased to see that Jordana is almost finished with a macrame.
15:32So I'm very glad that I picked her and now I have to start working on the avant-garde look and I'm getting a little nervous because I'm looking at the fabric and I'm afraid that my garments will look like a blue tranny.
15:43Wherever this is overlapping.
15:44I'm telling you it's overlapping the same way.
15:46No, we wanted to meet, we wanted to go all the way to where this is.
15:50That's what I just said episode.
15:51No, you didn't just say that.
15:52I'm not going to do this again.
15:53So I'm good.
15:54The stuff that we're working on, it's going to get done.
15:55I'm the team captain.
15:56I'm being looked at.
15:57So game on.
15:58We have to understand each other.
15:59We can't make a mistake.
16:00Why does a mistake have to be on my part?
16:01We have to understand each other.
16:02I don't have nothing else to say.
16:03I'm good.
16:04One person needs to start doing the avant-garde piece and then the other person needs to be switching.
16:08I'll finish the bathing suit.
16:09Okay.
16:10Ramon is working on a wetsuit-ish kind of a deal.
16:11Hopefully he knows what he's doing.
16:12Hi, the prophet of doom has returned.
16:17Yeah.
16:18Carol Hanna.
16:19Yes, sir.
16:20Your model Erica has an impact on me.
16:21I have to understand each other.
16:22We have to understand each other.
16:23I have nothing else to say.
16:24I'm good.
16:25One person needs to start doing the avant-garde piece and then the other person needs to be
16:26switching.
16:27I'll finish the bathing suit.
16:28Okay.
16:29Ramon is working on a wetsuit-ish kind of a deal.
16:31Hopefully he knows what he's doing.
16:33Hi, the prophet of doom has returned.
16:35Yeah.
16:36Carol Hanna.
16:37Yes, sir.
16:38Your model Erica has an issue and I want you to know that if you're not happy with the
16:44outcome, you can have a new model.
16:46Erica decided to take this commercial opportunity and she's not going to be present for the fitting.
16:53Well, this is lovely.
16:55No, I know.
16:56It presents an enormous conundrum.
16:58Yeah.
16:59There's no way I can do this without fitting this girl.
17:02I'm the one on the line.
17:04It has immunity, which makes it even more so important.
17:07I feel bad that Eric is going to be going home, but it is what it is.
17:12So I'm thinking I'm going to go with Valerie, one of the eliminated models.
17:17Design teams, may I have your attention, please?
17:22Philip Carrion from Garnier is here for your hair consultation.
17:26And I'm sending your models.
17:27Okay.
17:29Oh, my God.
17:30That's awesome.
17:31It was beautiful.
17:32Okay.
17:33I think we should just take it in from the back.
17:34We have chosen to put my new model, Valerie, into the avant-garde look.
17:35Valerie is really muscular.
17:36She's beautiful.
17:37She has a great look.
17:38She's super tall.
17:39So I think things are going to turn out okay.
17:40Oops, sorry.
17:41The avant-garde look is provocative for my taste.
17:44I know that Nicholas is inspired by the sea.
17:46So maybe this is a sea woman who is becoming a human like in the movie, mermaid.
17:49That's what I'm asking.
17:50Very powerful.
17:51Very powerful.
17:52Very powerful.
17:53Very powerful.
17:54Very powerful.
17:55Very powerful.
17:56Very powerful.
17:57Okay.
17:58I think we should just take it in from the back.
17:59We have chosen to put my new model, Valerie, into the avant-garde look.
18:02Valerie is really muscular.
18:03She's beautiful.
18:04She has a great look.
18:05She's super tall.
18:06So I think things are going to turn out okay.
18:07That's what I'm asking.
18:08Very powerful.
18:09Very powerful.
18:10It's a statement.
18:11It's really important that they have the wetsuit.
18:12I think that's what inspired this.
18:15I think in this situation, the word frustration is a huge understatement.
18:20I wasn't chosen to be a leader.
18:22And I look at Mitchell and I don't know if it's just he doesn't have the ability to stay
18:27focused or if he doesn't care or what it is, but it's bringing us down.
18:32Ow!
18:33See?
18:34Karma.
18:35I'm going to be laughing so hard when she sends her ass home.
18:38You are so mean.
18:39I'm going to be laughing so hard.
18:40I'll help them pack you.
18:41I'm not trying to be a winner in this situation.
18:44There's going to be like a, on the chalkboard, Avina saying bitch.
18:48Avina saying bitches.
18:50Hello.
18:51Hello.
18:52Hi.
18:53I'm Nicholas.
18:54Hi.
18:55I'm Nicholas.
18:56Hi.
18:57Nice to see you.
18:58Nice to meet you.
18:59Nice to meet you finally.
19:00I have something good that's kind of tribal.
19:03I like it.
19:04Tribal would be nice.
19:05I did some preliminary things that I, this is it right here.
19:08Oh, that's, that's her too.
19:09Okay.
19:10And these waves come down and they actually come forward.
19:12I love it.
19:13This girl, she's our avant-garde.
19:15We have one big dramatic wave that comes down one side.
19:19And I think get her bangs dead straight.
19:21Yeah.
19:22That's a little more rock and roll.
19:23The thing about her hair texture, because it does this naturally, we're going to be able
19:27to really use the wonder waves product on her and just enhance her hair.
19:31It's going to be smashing.
19:32Awesome.
19:33Okay.
19:38Hi everybody.
19:39Hey Tim.
19:40I'm here to check in and I'm going to start right here.
19:43Cause it's avant-garde.
19:44We want to go as out of control as possible.
19:46So it's going to be an oversized macrame design that kind of extends across the bust line.
19:51Wow.
19:52I will tell you, I love the idea.
19:54High fives.
19:55High fives.
19:56I love that you said that.
19:57All right.
19:58Okay.
19:59Back to work.
20:00Back to work.
20:01To work.
20:02Thank you guys.
20:03So this is our, um, surfer inspired outfit that's very fashion forward and it peels off.
20:08Can I just tell you, when you put, held that up and this was all of appeal,
20:12of a piece, I was knocked out.
20:15Then this suddenly is open and I'm thinking we're going to see panties.
20:19And suddenly all that sophistication went away from me.
20:22All right.
20:23Keep working hard.
20:24Okay.
20:26We wanted to pull in that whole waves, water, illusion of just very, very organic.
20:31You have a lot of work to do.
20:32We got this.
20:33All right.
20:34Thanks Tim.
20:36You made the hat?
20:37Yeah.
20:38That's ambitious.
20:39Yeah.
20:40Keep working.
20:41I'm with you completely.
20:42Keep going.
20:43Thank you, Tim.
20:45It's an adorable look.
20:46You're a good team, the two of you.
20:47Okay.
20:48Work, work, work.
20:49Okay.
20:50Talk to me.
20:51We decided to do a bathing suit out of macrame.
20:52You sure have.
20:53Each strip we did by hand.
20:55Each, everything hand dyed to match perfectly to the color that we loved.
20:58Bravo.
20:59Thank you both.
21:00Thank you, Tim.
21:01Go, go, go.
21:02Mitchell, Ramon.
21:03Hi, Tim.
21:04What is that?
21:06So this is part one.
21:08What is that?
21:09The reaction is a little scary already.
21:11It's a jumpsuit.
21:12I was inspired by that.
21:13A jumpsuit or a scuba suit?
21:15Well, I was inspired by the idea of a wetsuit.
21:18I mean, I feel like I'm in a cartoon with a superhero and a Greek goddess.
21:23I fundamentally don't get it.
21:26Pull this together somehow, all right?
21:28All right.
21:29Thank you, gentlemen.
21:30Thank you, Tim.
21:31Thank you, Tim.
21:32We'll see you later.
21:34It is, yet again, the 11th hour trying to come up with something that will work.
21:40We're in trouble.
21:41Designers, I just want to underscore the fact that there's not a lot of time left tonight.
21:46Work like there's no tomorrow, because for at least one person, there won't be.
21:51All right?
21:52Thanks, Tim.
21:53All right.
21:54All right.
21:55All right.
21:56So I decided that we need to scrap the jumpsuit altogether.
22:01This would be awesome if you had this.
22:03Yep.
22:04No, I'm on it now.
22:05Okay.
22:06I need to take this in my own hands and really come up with a really solid look.
22:11Ramon has a new idea.
22:12I don't know what he's doing.
22:13No idea.
22:14I don't think he knows what he's doing, either.
22:15I'm here for a reason.
22:16You don't have to raise your voice.
22:17You're putting on the show.
22:18No, I express myself.
22:19I'm not putting on the show.
22:20I'm not putting on the show.
22:21I express myself, and that was it.
22:22I'm not putting on the show.
22:23I'm not putting on the show.
22:24I'm not putting on the show.
22:25I'm not putting on the show.
22:26Epperson and Crystal are really having a problem right now.
22:29They're just not meshing at all.
22:31It's like oil and water.
22:32I don't know what kind of women you're used to, but I'm not just wanting to speak to
22:35me in any kind of way.
22:36Let's not talk about what type of woman I'm just talking to.
22:39All right.
22:40I'm done.
22:41I'm trying to finish.
22:42Oh, that's it.
22:43I said I was done, and I mean I'm done.
22:44Good.
22:45heads and if this is not going to work there's a possibility both of us are going home all right
22:49let's go coming up on project runway we have 35 minutes i'm working on both pieces simultaneously
22:58i'm trying to keep mitchell as focused as possible it's unfair
23:02it's a new day help i don't want to get yelled at anymore are you ready to get the bottom two
23:17again today thank you i hate you so much i think third strike you're out i think hopefully i'll
23:24still be here come on let's go i'll tell heidi that there's no way you can send her home she makes me
23:30laugh i'm nervous i just have a feeling that two people are probably going to go home
23:43not just one person so that's what makes me nervous
23:49logan and i are in a good place we're so happy with our looks there's there's no way we're not going to
23:55win you need to put a running stitch through it and then gather it or do you want me to
23:59to stitch on over all this we're going to stitch them together then we're going to open it all up
24:03again okay i'm working on both pieces simultaneously i'm trying to keep mitchell as focused as possible
24:11and it's unfair with nothing underneath of it to just focus on this basically that's what i'm doing
24:17because i'm not trying to go home because of this good morning designers morning i'm about to send in
24:24your models you will have two hours with them two hours to fit them to send them to the garnier hair
24:29studio and the l'oreal paris makeup room and as you're pulling your looks together please use the
24:36macy's accessory wall very thoughtfully okay roman do you have time to finish this look yeah all right
24:43you may need to resurrect the scuba suit we shall see all right i'm sending in your models thank you
24:49that's not something you want to care
24:58i'm looking at the neoprene and suddenly i'm like oh my gosh is it like a ball of lettuce
25:02so i think the best thing to give this a little bit more pop is to dye the fabric
25:07bare bones straight from the streets i'm dying this by hand
25:14roman we have about 35 minutes okay i want to ensure that both models are fully dressed in looks
25:24so that you're not just instantly disqualified this is so not fair so i want you to save yourself so
25:30so get something together okay and make it work oh it's beautiful
25:42it's kind of a clean classic look exactly
25:45i think it's working am i giving up no i'm not
26:12at least if i go home i can say i tried the best that i could
26:20i don't know what the judge's take is going to be but i will be honest i will be up front and let them
26:25know my work got done over by epperson yeah if i got to save myself i will designers and models we're
26:32going to the runway so follow me everybody going into the judging i did as much as i could to save
26:40myself this is the first challenge i feel nervous i hope i'm not headed for the bottom two but
26:45seems like i've made quite a home there for myself at the bottom two
26:51coming up on project runway you didn't come over to concert that's what i was going i'm not finished
26:56what did you do mitchell i worked in the swimsuit you did the swimsuit and raman did everything else
27:06hello hi welcome to the runway as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out
27:17this was your first team challenge and you were asked to create
27:20a california surf inspired look but we thought that this was going to be a little bit too easy
27:28so we also asked you to make an avant-garde look as a companion to your original design
27:33so i'm really looking forward to what you have created all right let's meet the judges
27:38we have max azria designer founder and ceo of bcbg max azria group and owner of herbe leger
27:47fashion director for americlair magazine nina garcia actress and designer for ed rose rachel bilson
27:59all right let's start the show
28:05the beach well look i'm i'm pleased with it it's flowing it's constructed well
28:11we're showing two looks and there are two looks that are just not strong enough the whole girl's
28:19butt is out there are a few flaws but it you know it was a quick put together
28:27when when our two looks come down the runway i'm completely at ease i'm i'm calm i love them i
28:33definitely know that irena and i are going to be in contention for winning
28:35i'm a little bit apprehensive about seeing the avant-garde look because i know it's not perfect
28:43obviously i want the judges to focus on the concept and not so much on like everything that's off
28:53our beachwear look looks fabulous coming down the runway i don't think the judges are going to know
28:58that that dress was made in 45 minutes the avant-garde piece hands down i feel like it truly embodies
29:09me i think it's the stronger of the two pieces i think it's fantastic i think me and carol hannah
29:16definitely worked evenly she you know she's a hard worker so i really appreciate that i think it was a
29:22good partnership i feel really confident in what sharon and i have made um i think our avant-garde look
29:29is one of the better ones if not the best one in the room in an almost kind of hidden way it's not
29:39just the final garment that's being put out there but how you're able to collaborate and put it together
29:43the avant-garde look it's just spectacular the pins and zippers glitter and the cascade skirt just sort
29:53is floating out behind her so i'm very pleased as i'm watching the garments it's pretty interesting
30:01because they're both my designs but i truly can say that i would not have been able to actually put them
30:07together without jordan's help the avant-garde look i'm having mixed feelings about but on the other
30:15hand i i totally believe in nicholas maybe i'm not as adventurous as he is my overall vision for the
30:25first look is is almost exactly how i wanted it i'm just really excited to find out what the judges
30:33actually think and get some feedback on our designs it's fantastic that logan and i are able to
30:39collaborate and really show our own style within the same garment and his rock and roll side and
30:45my play on volume and it really worked out if i call your name please step forward althea and louise
31:00please please step forward logan and christopher please step forward
31:08sharin and carol hannah please step forward if i have called your name
31:15congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge you can leave the runway
31:20thank you thank you thank you
31:22the eight of you have the highest and the lowest scores one of you will be named the winner and one
31:31of you will be out nicolas and jordana crystal and epperson your teams have the lowest scores
31:39we're going to talk to the teams with the highest scores first and then i'm going to bring you back
31:48so you can leave the runway
31:56okay let's bring out your models
31:57all right i would like to start with johnny and irena first i sewed the skirt that's probably the only
32:09thing i can say that i did it by myself but she draped it with me she did all the beautiful macrame
32:13in the back the macrame idea was sort of the the central yeah the core of this whole project that we
32:20did i really love the back i think that looks really beautiful it looks exciting i have to say
32:28that's my favorite look i think out of all the looks was this because i would definitely wear that
32:33regarding the dress the walk that is on the top is fantastic thank you thank you
32:40mitchell and roman tell us about your design basically the inspiration started from a moment
32:45on the beach when the wave broke on the shore a pile of seaweed washed up and it looked so beautiful
32:51to me just the way the blues and the greens and the brown sort of intertwined now ramon am i reading this
32:57wrong or is mitchell the team leader i'm the team leader he offered to speak i want to hear you too
33:03okay mitchell so from these two garments what did you do mitchell ramon did most of it i worked in the
33:11swimsuit i um we can't see the swimsuit you did the swimsuit and ramon did everything else not
33:16everything else he i mean he did a lot of it why are you making that funny face ramon um just because
33:21it was not that smooth at the end of the hour i found myself working on both pieces at once which was
33:28a little bit um frustrating i asked you who did what and you said he did pretty much pretty much all of it
33:34who chose that fabric i chose this it's a neoprene i thought that it was very thank you
33:43god for neoprene yeah this dress made me very happy because it was color and i liked the fact
33:51that you used it for that avant-garde challenge rachel you're a california girl which outfit would
33:57you wear well that absolutely the green one the dress with a few alterations yeah only five two
34:04good ideas very good idea much okay we've heard what you had to say you can leave the runway thank you
34:15okay so let's bring out the designers with the lowest scores
34:21all right i would like to start with crystal and epperson
34:25and we want to know who did what in your team all right i was chosen as the captain
34:29but um i would have to say that epperson pretty much took the lead um on everything i can tell
34:34by the rolling of epperson's eyeballs you guys had a lot of fun together you didn't come up with a
34:40concept we have to come up with something i came up with the concept we had another concept wasn't good
34:45enough i wouldn't even have a chance to present anything it was everything that's what kind of excuse
34:49is that i had to make this work to the last minute i'm sewing it i sewed the top i didn't
34:56sew any i didn't know you you did i had to redo it because whatever i did was never good enough
35:01anyway i'm not finished i'm not finished exactly that's what i was going i'm not finished i couldn't
35:05speak i couldn't speak every time i would grab a piece of fabric or well it wasn't good enough no
35:10that's cheesy that looks cheap but that's not the right color or something like that
35:13i actually like the print i think it's a very pretty fabric there are sort of apparent problems
35:22in the work and obviously it's projected from you guys not getting along i have to say to make a top
35:29that fits that good on a body i mean it's it's very good work but then you look at the other piece
35:36what is this it just it really it just was a bad marriage if you are not a team player you cannot
35:45be a designer all right let's continue with nicolas and jordana nicolas you were the team leader
35:53we did this macrame top together we can't cut all the fabric hand dyed it i mean that's a beautiful
36:01tie-dye job i think it's actually really pretty the bottom bit to me is very messy
36:07the top i love now here i don't know it's not classy i think i took it a little too far
36:17although i have to say his idea with the organza was fantastic unfortunately you went for it too sexy
36:23the overall effect of this girl though with her hair and her makeup looks great this work is not good
36:29let's say put that on side but that is not a big thing you can do much much better i think it's a very
36:35fashion forward cool number right you didn't have to include the garters okay we've heard what you
36:42had to say we're going to have a little chat and then i'm going to call you back you can leave the
36:46runway thank you let's talk about johnny and irena the first two as the block looks good the t-shirt was
36:57right everything was right well they tied into each other with the macrame of the back and then
37:02you know the sort of idea of the dress it did tie in what about mitchell and roman the avant-garde dress
37:10and how he dyed it and made it a print and everything i mean that was really good i would
37:15wear the avant-garde look if it was tweaked a little bit i mean a little with the neoprene and
37:20the green just seemed like the best to me but michelle did do nothing everything is real on project
37:29runway you actually have to design and create and sew and he's letting roman do all the sewing i don't
37:35know how am i supposed to judge someone if they actually didn't do anything
37:39let's talk about who we didn't like let's discuss nicholas and jordana to toy with that very
37:48provocative nature that we saw here with the garter belts and with the cut out he you know he has to
37:55tame that i think he has to be very careful about the fabrics that he picks the bra of the swibwe
38:02was very that was beautiful what do we think about epperson and crystal obviously there were there
38:09were a lot of problems between the two although the top part of the first dress the printed dress
38:14was was pretty and it fit well and he decided everything yeah he did decide every he acted as
38:19the team leader she's weak and he took advantage i mean it was the recipe for disaster okay so we've made
38:27our decision yes let's bring them back out the eight of you have the highest and the lowest scores one
38:44of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
38:48one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
39:03ramon you are the winner of this challenge
39:11even though mitchell was the team leader you did all of the work your looks were fresh beautiful
39:16and came closest to meeting the challenge objectives you also have immunity for the
39:21next challenge and cannot be eliminated congratulations you can leave the runway thank you
39:29i'm the winner is there a recount that needs to happen because
39:33this is ridiculous like talk about prayers being answered
39:38irina and johnny you both are in you can leave the runway thank you
39:46nicholas jordana you're both in you can leave the runway thank you thanks
39:58crystal epperson as you admitted yourself this was a bad marriage
40:04epperson yes you're in you can leave the runway thank you
40:21crystal your leadership skills were nonexistent and it showed in the poor outfits that you showed us
40:28mitchell we're disappointed and confused never in project runway history has a team
40:37member for winning design been eliminated
40:44three strikes and you're out
40:46that means crystal you're in thank you thank you
41:13thank you so happy doesn't
41:14coming into this challenge as a captain i was not as assertive as i should have been
41:25i didn't try hard enough and that was a mistake the world of fashion is not going to be complete
41:30without each and every one of you guys okay so thank you bye it was a wonderful opportunity and i
41:37i don't regret being myself and in the end um i'm going home with a smile on my face
41:49next week on project runway well tim is waiting for you in the work room with 13 women make all of these
41:57women very very happy she wants a royal blue satin jumpsuit that's not me at all i don't want
42:05it to look like a smurf prom dress don't use that word again i know i'll still be sewing as tim rips
42:11the needle out of my hand to drag me to the runway to me it looks very bridesmaid you've just aged her
