00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:03I have some special ladies to introduce,
00:05and their moms have brought them here
00:07for a head-to-toe makeover.
00:10Yeah, not so much.
00:11It makes it look flat-chested.
00:13It just, it, it, like, plants you down.
00:15I'm going to have to scrap all of that hard work.
00:18It looks a little sloppy.
00:20But you know it's all going to show.
00:22I know.
00:27Congratulations, Jarrell.
00:29It feels amazing to be the winner of this challenge.
00:32And the fact that it's my second win.
00:34Hell yeah.
00:35I certainly don't understand the two pieces together at all.
00:39Ouch.
00:40It's the total cliché.
00:44Jo, you're out.
00:49The winner of Project Runway will receive
00:51a 2009 Saturn View Hybrid,
00:53an opportunity to sail their line on bluefly.com,

01:02This is Project Runway.
01:04We're not so surprised to see Joville.
01:05She's been there coming for all weeks.
01:06Now that I'm closed, I can smell it.
01:07I'm not even thinking about going home.
01:08It's straight to Burnham Park.
01:09And we're down to the top five.
01:10I've been in the bottom three now, three times in a row.
01:11I need to step up my game, or I'm gone.
01:12It would be really cool to have it be all girls,
01:13but I think Jarrell is really talented,
01:14so he's just going to have to wear a wig.
01:15Maybe.
01:16Let's do this.
01:17Okay, you guys ready to go to Parson's?
01:18Yeah.
01:19Okay, all right.
01:20Let's do this.
01:21Let's do this.
01:22We're not so surprised to see Joville.
01:23She's been there coming for all weeks.
01:24I'm not so surprised to see Joville.
01:25She's been there coming for all weeks.
01:26Now that I'm closed, I can smell it.
01:27I'm not even thinking about going home.
01:28It's straight to Burnham Park.
01:29And we're down to the top five.
01:30I've been in the bottom three now,
01:32three times in a row.
01:33I need to step up my game, or I'm gone.
01:36It would be really cool to have it be all girls,
01:38but I think Jarrell's really talented,
01:39so he's just going to have to wear a wig.
01:40Okay, are you guys ready to go to Parson's?
01:56Hello.
01:57Hi.
01:58Before we talk about your next challenge,
02:01we're going to let you re-pick your models.
02:04Let's bring them out.
02:10Because we eliminated two designers
02:16and didn't use you in the last challenge,
02:18there are eight of you and five designers.
02:21So three of you will be out.
02:26Jerrel, you were the winner of the last challenge,
02:29so you have the first pick.
02:31Of course, I've got to stay with my lovely Nicole.
02:33Nicole, you can leave the runway.
02:35I will draw from this bag to figure out the rest of the order.
02:41Kenley.
02:42Jermaine, it was really great to work with you.
02:44You're really cute.
02:45But I'm going to go with Tapacio.
02:47Tapacio, you can leave the runway.
02:49I go with Tapacio, Joe's old model.
02:52She's going to look really good in my dresses.
02:54Leanne.
02:55Carolyn, you've been absolutely amazing,
02:58but I think I'm going to switch things up a little bit
03:01and I'd like to work with Tia.
03:03I'm going to have to kill Leanne.
03:05It's like the kid in the candy store
03:07who wants what everyone else has.
03:08Childish.
03:09Heartbreaker, Leanne.
03:11Suede.
03:12Suede.
03:13OK, well since Suede lost his lovely Tia,
03:14I think I'm going to have to take Zerfara.
03:19Zerfara, you can leave the runway.
03:22OK, Kato.
03:23You have the last pick.
03:26Oh, pretty nice.
03:27Oh, pretty nice.
03:28I'm going to take Zerfara.
03:29I'm going to take Zerfara.
03:30Zerfara.
03:31I'm going to take Zerfara.
03:32You can leave the runway.
03:36OK, Kato.
03:37You have the last pick.
03:39I don't know what you have to do.
03:40It's so easy.
03:41Yes, I'm really trying to go with Tia.
03:42Who is it going to be?
03:45Katarina.
03:47Katarina, you can hit the runway.
03:52That means Paulina, Jermaine, and Carolyn. You're out.
04:00I love Carolyn, but I really felt that Suede had an advantage having Tia.
04:07This is a competition, and Tia is a real asset.
04:13All right, so are you ready for your next challenge?
04:15Yes.
04:17Tim is waiting in the workroom where you find out what it is.
04:20And I'll see you on the runway.
04:21Bye.
04:22Bye.
04:23Bye.
04:34I could count you all in one hand.
04:37You know, I've gotten past even trying to guess what the challenges are,
04:39because it's always something that I wasn't expecting.
04:42I'm just, like, ready to have it thrown at me.
04:45For this challenge, you will be designing for each other.
04:51I don't want to design for anybody. I just want to make something for my model that says me and be done with it.
05:02Suede will be designing for Jerelle.
05:07I'm a very difficult client.
05:09We shall see.
05:11Suede's okay with this, although Suede's more experienced sewing women's wear than men's wear, but bring it on, because I'm going to win, and Suede is getting Tia back.
05:20Ha, ha, ha, ha.
05:22Kenley, you'll be designing for Leanne.
05:26Oh, cool.
05:28Kato is designing for Suede.
05:33All right, Jerelle will be designing for Kenley.
05:40Leanne will be designing for Kato.
05:44Each of you now has a fellow designer as a client.
05:50And there's more.
05:53You must each create a look for your client inspired by a specific musical genre.
06:03You know, I think that music and fashion really do go hand in hand.
06:08They both constantly influence the other, and I think it's fun to get to work on a challenge where music is involved.
06:15This is your opportunity to explore the relationship that music has to fashion in a very personal way.
06:23And after all, you'll be modeling these looks on the runway.
06:26So, Kenley, your genre is pop.
06:31Oh, my gosh.
06:32I think pop is really cheesy, so I was not excited about it.
06:40It's going to be really scary for Jerelle to create this look for me.
06:44Suede, your genre is punk.
06:48Oh, cool.
06:50Coming into this competition, my biggest fear was doing menswear.
06:53So now, after I realize, okay, I'm designing for Suede, it hits me, I have to actually make a menswear punk outfit.
06:58And it's like, who would love to be me right now? I don't think anybody would.
07:03All right, Kato, your genre is country.
07:08It just gets better and better.
07:13And Leanne, you have hip hop.
07:17Yay! Savotage!
07:20Kenley was chosen to design for me a hip hop look.
07:24So, Jerelle, rock and roll.
07:28Okay, I can do that. I can do that.
07:29All right. I can do that.
07:31My inspiration is rock and roll, and Suede's got to work that into my look.
07:35He's probably going to make me something pretty cool.
07:37I think it actually lends itself to his eye.
07:40So, you have an hour to meet.
07:42Afterwards, we'll be going shopping at Mood with a budget of $150.
07:46And you have until 1 a.m. tonight to complete your look.
07:49So, your hour begins now.
07:52Yeah, I was thinking sleeveless, and then it was frayed, and then this arm just from there had the fishnet coming up underneath.
08:02And if you have anything as we go along the way that you have problems with, I prefer that you tell me to my face before Tim gets here, because I don't want to have to snap on you in front of Tim.
08:11Okay.
08:12What would you want to wear if you were a hip-hop artist?
08:15You know, like, I'll totally do all gangster.
08:19I don't want gangster.
08:21Yo, Kendalli's gonna make an outfit for me.
08:24She better not make it look like it's from 1950.
08:27I think everyone's wearing high-waisted jeans right now, and they're awesome.
08:34It's gonna be a challenge.
08:36Okay.
08:37I'm gonna do something really cool that looks good on her.
08:39I'm not gonna make her look like a fool.
08:41Oh, can we do some sort of killer-ass collar?
08:44Can you, like, some...
08:45A really big high collar?
08:46Yeah.
08:47Some sort of dramatic-ass collar.
08:48A cape would be hot, too, if that...
08:49On top of all?
08:50Yeah.
08:51I mean, it's like, wow!
08:52You know?
08:53I hear that inner voice saying,
08:55you just got called out for something that the judges thought was very dated.
09:00If you turn around a look that Kiss would wear from the 80s,
09:04guess what the judges are going to say?
09:07I'm gonna stand by whatever you do.
09:08Okay?
09:09Yeah, yeah.
09:10I'm not gonna throw you under the bus.
09:11I promise you that.
09:15I think you should do me a pop star who's in a video.
09:18What if I just make you Kimberly Spears?
09:20Like, I mean...
09:21Okay.
09:22It's gonna be super sexy.
09:23And totally not 1954.
09:25You're selling sex.
09:26Oh, my gosh.
09:27You're selling sex.
09:28But I think for the most part, country music stars are very, like, put together.
09:35And they're not sloppy.
09:36Coteau is definitely not about country music.
09:39And, you know, that look is not her.
09:43So I get to show all that cleavage?
09:45I get to show some cleavage.
09:46I just want to make sure that what I do is not a costume.
09:51Can you try these on?
09:53Look, you up 30 minutes was up 30 minutes ago.
09:56What?
09:57No.
09:58She can't try these on?
09:59No.
10:00I'm gonna get hip hop on you in a minute.
10:01These look really...
10:02These look actually very small.
10:03You guys are dying.
10:04Don't act like that.
10:05I'm getting you ready for your hip hop world.
10:08What?
10:09What?
10:10Take it over there.
10:11She's just mad she has to go country.
10:14All right, designers.
10:16Let's head off the mood.
10:17Follow me.
10:25They're off.
10:29I am making Kindly into a little pop diva.
10:32Everything's gonna be stretchy and netty and sparkly.
10:35Yeah, that's perfect.
10:36This is Joey as hell.
10:37Okay.
10:38Is this hip hop?
10:39Of course.
10:40It looks like graffiti.
10:41So this is one yard.
10:42I don't get the hip hop factor in the print.
10:45Well, you'll see it when it's fun.
10:46That's me.
10:47Okay.
10:48You'll see it when it's fun.
10:49I promise.
10:50Okay.
10:51Do you know if there's any stretch denim?
10:52Black.
10:53I'm making a two piece outfit for suede and it's gonna be punk.
10:57I'm looking for a stretch denim type thing.
11:00Probably like a yard.
11:01A yard.
11:07All right, designers.
11:08Time is up.
11:09Perfect.
11:10Thank you, Mood.
11:11Thank you, Mood.
11:12Thank you, Mood.
11:24Is that the palette?
11:25This is the palette.
11:26Beautiful.
11:28I'm Shania Jank.
11:31So I'm Shania Jank for this challenge.
11:33Jank is like a code word for like totally jacked up.
11:37I gotta get my twang together.
11:39It's gonna be a very glamorous look.
11:41Like she's going to be performing at the Country Music Awards.
11:46I want the country influence to come through and I wanna be me.
11:51What's your name, Leanne?
11:52I don't know.
11:53Lil Lil?
11:54Lil Lee?
11:55Lil Lee Animal.
11:56Lil Lee J. Blige.
11:59For Leanne's hip hop look, doing a leather jacket, a top and a high waisted jean.
12:05This is the first time I'm making pants on Project Runway.
12:08It's just not my thing.
12:10My line is dresses, so I'm a little nervous.
12:13We all see this floral blouse that Kenley has.
12:20We all know that ain't hip hop.
12:22It's damn near country.
12:24So we're not gonna tell her.
12:26We're just gonna let her believe that's hip hop.
12:28I'll probably look cute propped, right?
12:30I think Kenley might be in a little bit of trouble.
12:33I just really don't think that there is anything hip hop in Kenley's bag of 50s style dresses.
12:39It's gonna be hot as hell.
12:41Alright.
12:42Coming up on Project Runway.
12:45I'm not gonna make her look stupid.
12:47Kenley, it would help if you removed the sarcasm.
12:51Can I get a hip hip Jerrell?
13:05I mean, really Jerrell.
13:07How much further you wanna drag it out?
13:10I would love to win this challenge.
13:12Nobody has won three in a row, so it would just be amazing to have those bragging rights.
13:17We're designing for each other.
13:20Dun, dun, dun.
13:23Kenley's inspiration is pop, which I've gotta work into her look.
13:26Kenley.
13:27Mm-hmm.
13:28Look.
13:29Oh my gosh.
13:30So, for Kenley's final look, I'm doing a fishnet mini dress with diamond cups.
13:34It's gonna be super sexy.
13:36And totally not 1954.
13:38Oh, this is gonna be fishnet, like fishnet, like long sleeve thing.
13:41Well, it's cool.
13:42Yeah.
13:43Oh my gosh.
13:44You are gonna make me look like that.
13:47Being sexed up by Jerrell is a little scary.
13:51I think Jerrell might think I have a better body than he knows.
13:55Maybe I've ever wore tight jeans before.
13:56Usually I wear baggy, but don't be worried.
13:57You know, I'll be fine.
13:58I am a classically trained cellist.
13:59I've played for 14 years, as well as piano.
14:00So, I'm definitely not punk rock.
14:01Do you need me to try anything right now, or no?
14:02I'm gonna make them in muslin first, cause I is no fool.
14:06I'm not even thinking about going home, because I just refuse to have to own it.
14:11I have to claim it.
14:12In the name of Jesus, I'm going to Bryan Park.
14:14I can't think of nothing else.
14:15I'm sorry.
14:16Yeah.
14:17I'm sorry.
14:18I'm sorry.
14:19I'm sorry.
14:20I'm sorry.
14:21I'm sorry.
14:22I'm sorry.
14:23I'm sorry.
14:24I'm sorry.
14:25I'm sorry.
14:26I'm sorry.
14:27I can't think of nothing else.
14:28I'm sorry.
14:29You're okay, okay.
14:30Oh, word.
14:31Are they, like, bell bottoms?
14:32No, they're just really long.
14:33I'm gonna scrunch them up so they're all, like, crunchy at the bottom.
14:36It's like Brocker.
14:37I adore them.
14:38I am making a pair of pants that have a stretch, sheeny satin, and making a tank top and a patchwork
14:46vest.
14:47Suede is never designed for a rock star, but when I worked at Jordache, I dressed a lot of pop
14:53stars.
14:54Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Destiny's Child.
14:58So, um, this shouldn't be such a far stretch.
15:01How's it coming, Leigh-Anne?
15:04Making cateau country.
15:07Country fried cateau.
15:08Oh, you should see the cowboy boots.
15:10Really?
15:11I was like, is this a sabotage or what?
15:13You know you got boots like that at your house.
15:15Leigh-Anne got my boots today, I got my boots.
15:19Once I tried on the cowboy boots, they go with my outfit that Leigh-Anne's making me.
15:24They just inspire this country in me.
15:26I start singing and dancing and line dancing.
15:28And I'm feeling a little country.
15:30And I'm skipping.
15:32I want to put spurs on the back of those.
15:36You can't do it to me.
15:38You can't do it to me.
15:39Oh, I got my boots and I got my boots.
15:45Kenley, I'd like to schedule a little fitting with you.
15:50Okay.
15:51What am I trying on?
15:53We're going to see a whole new side of Kenley.
15:55Kenley's going to see a whole new side of Kenley.
15:57I'm about to bring out the sex goddess in that girl.
16:00My ass is literally hanging out.
16:02No, it's not.
16:06I hear Kenley drying on her outfit from the sewing room.
16:09And I jet into the work room because I really need to see her in this.
16:13Oh, I love your boobs.
16:15Oh, thanks.
16:16This is going to take some getting used to.
16:20Little sex kitten.
16:22It's totally pop star.
16:24You look hot as hell.
16:25And wait until you see the hair.
16:27Initially, Kenley was a little reluctant.
16:29She's probably not used to showing that much thigh.
16:32But after she caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror,
16:34I could tell she was feeling it.
16:36It really is short though.
16:37I would never wear something like this.
16:39I'm going to have things showing that I don't want to be shown.
16:43Oh, my God.
16:44Yeah.
16:45Pop star.
16:46You need to wear fishnet more.
16:48Ah!
16:54Hi, everyone.
16:59How are you?
17:00Hi, Tim.
17:01I'm going to check in with you.
17:03And I will start with Jerrell.
17:05Hey, how's it going?
17:07So this is pop for Kenley.
17:09Yes, it is.
17:10Because this is a beautiful silhouette.
17:13But I just feel like I need to add another element.
17:15Do I think it needs more?
17:17Yes.
17:18Only if it's the right more.
17:20I got these two fabrics here, which...
17:22Ah!
17:23No, no, no.
17:24What's this?
17:25I'm actually thinking of doing a vest now
17:26and having it kind of have these panels of this fur
17:28that she actually takes off.
17:30All right.
17:31Thank you, Jerrell.
17:33Leanne.
17:34Tim.
17:35How are you?
17:36I'm pretty good.
17:37I've got a lot of work to do.
17:39Talk to me.
17:40Coteau is being country fat.
17:42Let me ask you this, though.
17:45Is it too subtle?
17:46Is it too nuanced?
17:47It's like, it's such a fine line to cross over into too costumey.
17:52Oh, it's so easy with this.
17:54There's just, yeah, more thinking to do.
17:56All right, just watch the proportion
17:57because right now I think it's really pleasing.
17:59All right.
18:00Do it.
18:01Okay.
18:02Coteau.
18:03Coteau.
18:04Coteau.
18:05So you have punk for suede.
18:07Talk to me.
18:08I'm going for a two-piece look.
18:10I wanted to do some denim,
18:11but I wanted to do, like, a skinny jean.
18:13I don't want to go all the way punk where it's the usual stuff.
18:16Why not?
18:17Talk to me.
18:18What do you mean?
18:19I'm just trying to learn from everybody else's critiques.
18:20If you go too stereotypical punk...
18:23Oh, yeah.
18:24No cliches.
18:25Yeah.
18:26So that's the look.
18:27I have some chains to, you know, chain it up a little bit.
18:30My question is, are you doing enough with this?
18:33I mean, in a way, you want to annihilate it.
18:36This is looking very basic.
18:38Tim says that it's not punk enough yet,
18:41so I have to push it and go the extra mile
18:43to give it an extra effect.
18:44Thank you, Coteau.
18:45I'm not worried.
18:47So, how's suede?
18:49Good.
18:50How are you, Tim?
18:51I'm good.
18:52So my client's Jarrell, and he's rock and roll.
18:55Tim, you're not saying anything.
18:56You scare me when you're saying anything.
18:57No, no.
18:58I'm taking it all in.
19:00But?
19:01I just think this doesn't look ramped up enough.
19:04I mean, it's rock and roll.
19:05You get away with just about anything.
19:08Because, you know, you're down to five.
19:11Every single solitary detail matters.
19:15All right.
19:16Thanks, Wade.
19:17Tim didn't really love my look,
19:19so I definitely need to make a few alterations.
19:22But I'm happy with the way it looks overall.
19:25Hi, Kenley.
19:26Hi, Tim.
19:27So you have hip-hop and you have Leanne.
19:30Pretend I've come from the moon.
19:32Talk to me about hip-hop and what characterizes it.
19:35Well, I see a lot of hip-hop artists today
19:37are wearing leather jackets and dark denim.
19:40I'm doing these high-waisted jeans.
19:43Correct me.
19:44I'm an old fart.
19:45Isn't part of the whole hip-hop fashion oversized?
19:49No.
19:50That's like 80s hip-hop.
19:52Okay.
19:53I know what you think when you say hip-hop
19:57and you immediately think oversized,
19:59but I can see that.
20:00Then I'm not going to make her look stupid.
20:03Kenley, I'm not disrespecting you.
20:05I'm here to support you.
20:07But you said everything's oversized.
20:09You need to listen.
20:12It will benefit you tremendously as a designer.
20:15I just want you to succeed.
20:16I just want you to understand the outfit.
20:18It would help if you removed the sarcasm and the facetiousness.
20:23It would help me a lot.
20:24You just think I'm being snarky.
20:26Okay.
20:27Kenley sometimes comes off rude, which is rude to Tim.
20:32And there's a line you don't cross sometimes.
20:34Like, whether you like Tim's opinions or not,
20:36he used to be respected.
20:38I'm just trying to channel your thinking.
20:41And then you let me off a precipice.
20:48Thank you, Kenley.
20:50All right, designers.
20:51I'll see you in the morning.
20:52Thank you, Tim.
20:53Thank you, Tim.
20:54Take care.
20:55Good night.
20:56Good night.
20:57I can't really listen to Tim at this point.
20:59And what does Tim know about hip-hop anyway?
21:02We're coming up on Project Runway.
21:07Kenley is trying to force Leigh-Anne into this children's size hip-hop suit.
21:15Hip-hop?
21:16Yeah.
21:25Oh, the thing.
21:29Oh, my gosh.
21:30Tim told me I was being sarcastic towards him.
21:33I just don't...
21:34I don't think he understands me.
21:35I just...
21:36And I don't think I really understand him.
21:38You're grabbing my crotch, Kenley.
21:40I know.
21:42I definitely know more about hip-hop than Tim does.
21:45I don't know.
21:46Maybe if they just come in more?
21:47I don't know.
21:48If our outfit is called out on the runway,
21:50I'm not gonna stand up there and lie to the judges
21:53and rave about something that there's some problems with.
21:56Especially not for somebody like Kenley.
21:58Alicia Keys, I was thinking of.
22:01Alicia Keys is a little more R&B, but...
22:04She kind of has hip-hop style, though.
22:06So, Kenley is the hip-hop designer.
22:11Yeah.
22:12I can't wait for tomorrow.
22:15It's supposed to be like that in hip-hop.
22:25Oh, my goodness.
22:26What?
22:27I made sure that my pants fit suede really well,
22:30but they're looking like a new pair of jeans.
22:32When you buy denim out of a fabric store,
22:35it's, like, in its rawest form.
22:36So, in order to kind of make it look a little aged
22:39and a little worn out,
22:40the bleach is gonna help out a lot.
22:44I go in the bathroom,
22:45and I start bleaching the sneakers,
22:47and I also decide to start bleaching my pants.
22:51That is so strong.
22:54The bleach just smells so horrendous.
22:57I wonder if she's just trying to sabotage us all
22:59by making us inhale those bleach fumes.
23:05It's the end of the night,
23:06and I'm totally getting nervous.
23:09Something in my gut is telling me
23:11that judges are gonna either hate this a lot
23:14or really like it.
23:16All right.
23:33Hey, Terelle.
23:34Still rock and roll this morning?
23:35Still rock and roll.
23:36The thought has crossed my mind to sabotage suede,
23:39which I'm sure that thought has come
23:40across every designer's mind.
23:42It is a competition.
23:45I'm feeling confident.
23:46I really love my outfit.
23:48And I'm not changing any part of my design
23:51based on what Tim said.
23:52I think that it looks hip hop.
23:54I really do.
23:55Tim and Joe, are you guys gonna stay here today?
23:58Don't make a mess.
24:15I have a lot of work left to do,
24:20but if I work quickly, I'll be able to get it done.
24:26Good morning, designers.
24:27How are you?
24:28Hey, Tim.
24:29Designers, you have an hour to get yourselves
24:31to the Trésa May Hair Salon
24:33and the L'Oreal Paris Makeup Room, okay?
24:38Thanks, Tim.
24:41I feel great about walking down the runway.
24:42I mean, I can still have a great runway walk butt naked.
24:46So if everything works out,
24:47I think it's gonna go great.
24:49Let's face it.
24:50I mean, Cateau's got a whole lot of junk in the trunk,
24:52and to really tame that down and make it country,
24:55we're gonna have to see what Leanne can do.
24:57I'll just take it in smoothly.
25:00I'm fine if I just have a snap, right?
25:01Yeah.
25:02Okay, cool.
25:03My look is rock and roll,
25:05but it's not crazy rock and roll.
25:09Tim didn't feel like it was over the top enough,
25:12but I really believe in my heart
25:14that the judges are gonna love it.
25:15I'm glad they look so awesome on you.
25:17Yeah, they're amazing.
25:18Awesome.
25:20Oh, man, love it.
25:21I put the jeans on Leanne.
25:24The crotch is still doing a little bit,
25:26but it's fun.
25:27Yeah.
25:28There was a little bit of bunching in the crotch,
25:31but nothing that I would think the judges would notice.
25:35What do you think, Jerrel?
25:36It's cute.
25:37It's cute.
25:38Kenley's ass is ridiculous.
25:40All right, let me just hem it.
25:41Wait right there.
25:42She is trying to force Leanne
25:46into this children's size hip-hop suit.
25:50And then these.
25:51I'll let Kenley destroy herself.
25:54Right, girl?
25:55Yeah.
25:56Hip-hop?
25:57Mm-hmm.
25:59Brady meets the Pussycat Dolls,
26:01channeling Lenny Kravitz.
26:02It's really hot.
26:07It's like Halloween.
26:10Do I look like Britney Spears?
26:11The Goodyears?
26:12Yeah.
26:13The Goodyears?
26:14Yeah.
26:15My hair has all sorts of different colors.
26:19I'm kind of thinking maybe I look like I should have been in the drag queen challenge.
26:28Good heavens.
26:38What happened to everybody?
26:40All right, I've forgotten why I'm here.
26:42Designers, in 15 minutes we are going down to the runway.
26:46All right, so everyone needs to be ready in 15 minutes.
26:50And I will say this, it's not going to be a doll show.
26:54I'll be back.
26:58It is kind of crazy being the designer and the model because one person's got their hands
27:04on you while you've got your hands on somebody else and everyone's trying to get it ready
27:08for the runway.
27:10It's exciting, I can say that much.
27:13I think that I'm going to win for Leigh-Anne's hip-hop outfit.
27:16It was a hard genre and I think I nailed it.
27:20I feel really confident with this rock outfit for Jarrell.
27:22God, I'm really hoping that I have a chance to win this one.
27:27Kenley Spears would be rocking this at Madison Square Garden and then probably kicking her
27:31panties off and falling asleep in the back of a limousine.
27:33You know, that's the kind of outfit I've created.
27:36I think I should probably win again.
27:38Designers, you set?
27:40Yes.
27:41This will be the most unique show Project Runway has ever seen on that runway.
27:49Kenley?
27:50Leigh-Anne?
27:51Kato?
27:52Coming!
27:53Come, come, come.
27:54You can't pop.
27:55You can't pop.
27:56You can't pop.
27:57Coming up on Project Runway.
28:00What happened to the vans?
28:02Kenley, you're not alone in this.
28:05Everybody's was hard.
28:06Hello.
28:07As you can see, there are empty chairs behind me and that's because for this challenge,
28:23we asked the designers to make outfits for each other using a musical style as their inspiration.
28:29They're modeling the looks today and I wanted us to be surprised.
28:33Before we begin, I would like to welcome LL Cool J to the runway.
28:37We're very glad to have you here for this challenge.
28:40Thanks.
28:41Are you ready, everyone?
28:42Absolutely.
28:43Alright, let's start the show.
28:51I think that my design has every element incorporated into it that needs to be there.
28:57It is very sophisticated and I love it.
29:02She definitely sold it.
29:03I think Kenley looks like Kenley Spears.
29:17She looks like the lead singer of the Badusi Cat Dolls.
29:20I mean, you'd have to be deaf, dumb and blind to not know that she's pop.
29:26...I mean, it's just you know.
29:35...and I'll never explain that.
29:38Leigh Ann is not selling my look at all.
29:40She really looks like a big fat poser.
29:42I'm a fat poser.
29:46Hip-hop, it's in the attitude,
29:48and Leigh-Anne does not have that.
30:01Oh my God, when Suede gets on the runway,
30:02he's totally gone.
30:04Suede does not even exist.
30:05This persona just took over.
30:09Couldn't have done any better.
30:12I should win because I put a lot of work into this garment.
30:17I think it definitely reads rock and roll.
30:20I love this look, and Jarrell loves it,
30:23and says to Ned, if he saw it in the store,
30:25he would buy it.
30:38Okay, we scored the designs.
30:40Let's bring them out.
30:52First, I want to introduce the judges.
30:55We have top American designer, Michael Kors.
30:57Hey, guys.
30:58Hey, Michael.
30:59Next, Nina Garcia, editor at large for Elle magazine.
31:02Hi, everyone.
31:03Hey, Naomi.
31:04And our special guest, musical innovator and style icon,
31:09LL Cool J, who's preparing to debut his new album, Exit 13,
31:15along with his own clothing line.
31:17How you doing, guys?
31:18Oh, .
31:19I have hip-hop, and he's the king of hip-hop,
31:22and I got Leigh-Anne being hip-hop, and it's embarrassing.
31:26Remember, there are five of you here,
31:29but only three will survive to compete at New York Fashion
31:32Week, and after tonight, we will be down to four.
31:36Kato, tell us about suede's look.
31:40Oh, and his look was punk, if you didn't know.
31:42This is all actually suede with the pant.
31:47Went for, like, a metallic denim,
31:50and kind of tried to distress it a lot
31:52with just tearing it up and bleaching,
31:54and that's the look.
31:55I think the outfit has a lot of energy.
31:57It's obvious you had a real perspective on it.
32:00I think it's right on the money.
32:02I think he looks like Marilyn Manson.
32:06These pants fit him very well,
32:08and I liked the treatment that you gave them,
32:11and it was right on.
32:12Thanks.
32:13I actually think that once you get past
32:15the punk aspect of them, it's a good silhouette on him.
32:19Forget everything else.
32:20It really is.
32:21I mean, he looks really great in it.
32:26Suede, you design for Jor-El.
32:29Well, Jor-El's musical persona was rock and roll,
32:32and he needed something that was very comfortable
32:36on the stage, and he can definitely hop right off stage
32:39and head out to a party in it.
32:41Jor-El, what is rock and roll to you?
32:43I thought, okay, maybe a little bit like Aerosmith
32:46or something like that.
32:47I'm really happy with, like, the color palette and the vest.
32:49I think it's kind of cool, and yeah, so, yeah.
32:51I think the vest is very cool.
32:53The pants, quite honestly, to me, they're a little expected.
32:58You know, I don't know that they're enough.
33:01I disagree.
33:02I mean, maybe you need to see them up closer,
33:04but there's a lot of work.
33:06They're really, really beautiful.
33:07You know, subtlety is wonderful for photographs, you know?
33:10Up close.
33:11Subtlety really doesn't work for the stage.
33:15Plus, I think that it needed more accessories.
33:17I just wish you had a little more...
33:19Oomph.
33:20Yeah.
33:21It's missing a little more drama.
33:23You know what Jor-El looks like today?
33:25What?
33:26Like Jor-El.
33:27Jor-El, you designed for Kenley.
33:32Well, Kenley's genre is pop, and I want to sexy her up.
33:37So it was all about just taking bits from, like, Britney Spears,
33:40from, like, the Pussycat Dolls, and really creating something
33:43that is gonna read way up in the nose, bleed seeds.
33:47Kenley, tell us what is pop to you.
33:49This is totally pop.
33:50I like it.
33:51If I was a pop star, I would wear it, because sex sells.
33:53And it looks great.
33:54When she came out, I'm like, Britney is a brunette.
33:57Really?
33:58I love it.
33:59I love the fact that, you know, she's exposed,
34:02but she's not too naked.
34:04And I love the silver, you know, cups.
34:07Yeah.
34:08I would have liked to have supported them a little bit more.
34:12They look supported.
34:13Oh, thank you.
34:14Thanks.
34:15I was looking at it, and I was saying to myself,
34:17I like it, but I wish I saw more skin.
34:19And then when you took the vest off,
34:21The reveal is great.
34:22I got more skin.
34:23Show them the back.
34:24Show them the back.
34:25It's actually, it's not like it's attached to the top,
34:27so it's just back all out.
34:29It's very, very smart.
34:30You look sexy, but it's not vulgar.
34:36Kennelly, you design for Leanne.
34:38Tell us about your look.
34:39Well, I got hip-hop, and I just wanted to do something
34:43that a woman today in hip-hop would want to wear.
34:46This, to me, is what I get is hip-hop,
34:50but in a classy, expensive sort of way.
34:55What happened to the pants?
34:58What do you mean?
34:59These are probably the most unflattering pants
35:01I've ever seen in my life.
35:03I just think the high-waisted jeans are just a problem.
35:07But let me ask you, LL, as an overall look,
35:10does this read hip-hop to you?
35:11No.
35:12I didn't want to put oversized pants on her
35:15with a backwards leg.
35:16No, no, no.
35:17I didn't want to make her look like a fool.
35:19I wanted her to be stylish and fashion-forward.
35:22I just don't know that she looks like she's a part of the culture.
35:25I think it doesn't make the point as readily as the other outfits.
35:30All right.
35:32Nothing that she's wearing looks extravagantly luxurious
35:36without being garish.
35:38Well, I could make something look luxury in a few days,
35:41not one day.
35:42Well, yes, but everybody's was hard.
35:44Kennelly, you're not alone in this.
35:46Everybody's was hard.
35:54Leanne, your client was Kato,
35:55and I want to ask Kato to please move next to you
35:57so you can talk about what you've designed for her.
36:01My design was based off the genre of country music.
36:05I wanted to kind of infuse vintage Dolly Parton
36:10with kind of a modern, chic, glamorous look,
36:15and I think that the gold touches here and there
36:18just add a nice subtle shimmer to it.
36:21Kato, what does country mean to you?
36:23I wanted to do something that was a little old school,
36:26like Loretta Lynn or Tammy Wynette,
36:28but also to have some elegance to it.
36:32I think the choice of color is fantastic,
36:35but I would have liked to see a little more glamour,
36:38a little more sophistication,
36:40and I think it's from the waist down
36:41that it's really missing.
36:43But I think the skirt has an amazing shape on you.
36:45I mean, when you were walking, it was very nice.
36:48I think it's very subtle.
36:50You know, if I saw you on an elevator
36:52and I didn't see your boots,
36:54I'm not sure if I would know that that's a country outfit.
36:56I think it's a great silhouette,
36:58but you could have just notched her up
37:00without going trite.
37:02Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
37:04We're gonna have a little chat,
37:06and then we call you back.
37:08You can leave the runway.
37:16So how did you guys think they did with this challenge?
37:19It was mixed.
37:20The hair and makeup, in most instances,
37:23did turn them into other people,
37:25but I think the results,
37:27as far as some of the actual designing,
37:29you know, a little spotty.
37:31Okay, let's talk about the designers that we did like.
37:34Jerrel.
37:35Talk about a transformation.
37:37All of us knew the minute she turned the corner
37:40that this was pop.
37:41And she took the vest off and some skin.
37:44There was another chapter, you know, to the book.
37:46I think that he made it revealing
37:49without it looking trashy.
37:53Another designer that we liked was Kato.
37:56She designed for suede,
37:58and he was very obviously punk.
38:00I thought what was kind of cool,
38:01she made that jean, which fit him very well.
38:04Very well.
38:05She bleached it to give it that texture,
38:06which I thought was very cool.
38:08That was hot.
38:09I also liked the idea that you had the chain
38:11built into the t-shirt.
38:12Yeah.
38:13I thought she nailed that outfit.
38:14Me too.
38:15It felt authentic to me.
38:18What did you think about suede,
38:19which was supposed to be rock and roll?
38:21I think it was rock and roll going to the grocery store.
38:24It was well made, but it was a bit boring.
38:27I think he's been too guarded in terms of his design.
38:31He's too safe.
38:32It needed to be explosive.
38:33It's rock and roll.
38:34It's loud.
38:35It's aggressive.
38:36When Jarell turned the corner,
38:37there was no transformation.
38:38No.
38:39His everyday look is more out there
38:42and more creative than that.
38:44Another one that we had problems with was Ken Lee.
38:49That outfit looked like something that you'd go buy in a mall.
38:54It was a perfectly fine leather jacket,
38:57a tank top,
38:58and a pair of really unattractive jeans.
39:01And if you make high-waisted jeans,
39:03make them really, really special.
39:04I don't know.
39:05Make them in leather.
39:06Something a little bit more special than...
39:08Don't make mom jeans.
39:09But I think she was probably freaked out.
39:11She was freaked out.
39:12I think she was freaked out.
39:13Suddenly, you were, like,
39:14taking her out of her 50s prom dress,
39:16and it wasn't something...
39:17And something that she's completely not...
39:19You know, she doesn't know.
39:22It's Leigh Ann.
39:24I think she started off in the right direction,
39:26but it needed a little glamour.
39:29The skirt was very nice.
39:30It wasn't bad.
39:31It was just a little quiet.
39:32There's a fine line between
39:33looking like your waitress at a theme park
39:35and looking like a star.
39:37It was a little too much like,
39:39I don't know, a woman going out to eat ribs.
39:43Okay, so we've made our decision.
39:47Let's bring them back out.
39:58There are five of you here,
39:59but tonight we're narrowing it down to four.
40:02So one of you will be out.
40:04There are five of you here,
40:11but tonight we're narrowing it down to four.
40:15So one of you will be out.
40:18Let's start with the winner.
40:21Congratulations.
