00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Designers, for this challenge, you will be creating an extravagant stage look for Christina Aguilera.
00:14This looks like student work.
00:17You don't like any, anything about it?
00:19No.
00:25The winner of this challenge is Carol Hanna.
00:30I see like an upscale witch Halloween dress.
00:37Shirin, you're out.
00:41This is Project Runway.
00:43Of course I'm the best.
00:44The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:47I have to win.
00:48I'm in, you're out.
00:49I'm the best designer here.
00:51I have no fear.
00:52Make it work.
00:53That's my one.
00:54This is my dream.
00:55For these 16 designers, Project Runway is the chance of a life.
00:59The winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
01:05A Paris vacation courtesy of Avian.
01:07And $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line.
01:11I have to say, I mean, there are so many good designers and to be reaching that far, it's pretty cool.
01:29Yeah, it really is.
01:30I am sad to see Shirin leave.
01:33She was one of my roommates.
01:34And it's kind of weird because we're all friends, but at the same time we're looking at each other and kind of picking out the stray sheep and the wolves kind of start to circle.
01:45And you're like, okay, who's next?
01:48We are in the final stretch and I really have to sort of serve myself as a designer and who I am.
01:55And I have to be to the final point because America, here I come.
01:59And you know, right now it's just me, me, me.
02:01It's la mood.
02:04La mood.
02:05La mood.
02:06La mood.
02:07I'm one of the top seven designers in this competition.
02:10I'm kind of an underdog with my background and my lack of a fashion education.
02:15So to get this far and to have nine designers gone and I'm still here, that's pretty exciting.
02:22All right, ready to roll.
02:23Got everything?
02:24I think so.
02:25I hope so.
02:26Hope so.
02:27Hello.
02:28Hi.
02:29There are seven of you left, which means you're getting closer and closer to Bryant Park.
02:49Are you ready for your next challenge?
02:51Yes.
02:52Tim is going to take you on a little trip to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills,
02:56where you will meet a top designer whose work is known around the world.
03:01It's like the possibilities are endless because every single designer who's like world renowned
03:07has a store there.
03:08Good luck.
03:09And I'll see you on the runway.
03:12Bye.
03:13Bye.
03:14Going to Rodeo Drive means we're probably going to be designing something higher end.
03:26That's where all the stars are shopping.
03:28There's so much wealth and power down one road.
03:33I work at mall stores.
03:35We don't have an Yves Saint Laurent.
03:37We don't have a Gucci.
03:39And now here I am going down Rodeo Drive to meet with a top designer.
03:45Good morning, designers, and welcome to Michael Kors' West Coast flagship, which personifies
03:50quality, taste, and style.
03:52It's incredibly amazing.
03:54And I'm just looking around the store and just looking at all his accessories and, you
03:58know, everything.
03:59And it's really, really, really great.
04:01And please welcome a familiar face.
04:04Michael's going to present you with your next challenge.
04:06Hi, guys.
04:07I am so excited about today's challenge.
04:09You know, one of the things that's so exciting to see is how our designers inspired.
04:13We're going to show you all the great locales that have inspired me, all the globe trotting,
04:18all the jet set travel that has been such a part of my life and has always inspired my
04:23collections.
04:24So whether real or imaginary, I want to see what kind of fabulous outfits you guys are going
04:30to come up with.
04:31So wow us.
04:32Look at the inspirations.
04:34And remember, this is all about having fun with those inspirations.
04:37All right, designers, let's head back to the work room.
04:44Welcome to the Michael Kors challenge.
04:47And at the core of this challenge is inspiration.
04:50So for this challenge, you will choose a location and create a look that certainly embodies
04:56who you are as a designer, but also embraces that locale.
05:01So Carol Hanna, you won the last challenge and you got to pick your location first.
05:07I like the idea of having something specific to be inspired by.
05:13But I'm also a little bit nervous because I haven't really been that many places.
05:17Okay.
05:18I'm going.
05:19You got it?
05:20Yes.
05:21Palm Beach.
05:22Palm Beach.
05:23All right.
05:24For the rest of you, I will pull your name out of our velvet bag.
05:26Nicholas.
05:27Okay.
05:28Okay.
05:29So New York is definitely out because that's too easy for me.
05:31I want something challenging.
05:32I'm going to go with Greece.
05:34All right.
05:35Alfio.
05:36Wow.
05:37No indecision here.
05:38Jordana.
05:39New York.
05:40Irina.
05:41I'll go with Aspen.
05:42All right.
05:43I end up choosing Aspen because fur and outerwear are one of my specialties.
06:00Christopher.
06:03That was quick.
06:04So Logan, you get Hollywood.
06:11All right, designers.
06:17You have 30 minutes to sketch.
06:19Then we're going to Mood where you have a budget of $150.
06:23And you have until tonight to finish this challenge.
06:27So start sketching and I will be back.
06:31When I think of Palm Beach, I think of a relaxed style, but also a very put together style.
06:44When I think of San Tropez, of course, I think of the big yachts, the parties.
06:50But I also think of the idea of its old fishing town.
06:55And I think I can really juxtapose the two and create a really cool outfit.
07:02Park Avenue.
07:03It's the rich of riches of New York.
07:05I'm going for the look of a sophisticated, independent woman.
07:11All right, designers.
07:12Let's head out to Mood.
07:13This should be fun.
07:14So designers, you have $150 and you have 20 minutes to shop.
07:23Go, go, go.
07:24Where's the brush cotton denim?
07:26I'm just basically going to run around the store until some fabric really jumps out at me.
07:33I'm able to buy a lot of these jewels.
07:37And I think I have about maybe $30 to spend on fabrics.
07:41$150 is not enough to put a winter look together.
07:46All right, designers.
07:47Time is up.
07:48That's it.
07:49Everyone needs to be at the counter to pay.
07:51Well, you give me one of each if I have enough.
07:53Logan, time's up.
07:55All right, designers.
07:56Let's head back to the work room.
07:58Thank you, Mood.
07:59Thanks, Mood.
08:00I've had time to kind of gather my thoughts and really become more confident in the direction
08:11that I want to go.
08:12So the look I'm going for is kind of this bohemian comfortable and tight skinny jeans.
08:18So I'm going to do three pieces.
08:20I have a pair of pants, a full sort of cowl neck sweater, and I'm really excited about
08:26the vest.
08:27It's a fur vest with a very full hood.
08:29I am definitely taking a risk here of creating this fantasy of a woman who lives in Greece.
08:38You know, she's more of a tomboy, but she's very fabulous.
08:41I can just see it going either way.
08:43Either they're going to absolutely love it, or they're going to tear me apart on the runway.
08:48My look is one piece.
08:50It's just a dress.
08:51The only problem I am having is that I really wish I had more fabric.
08:57I have just enough to make it work.
09:00That's kind of irritating.
09:02I crack up over my own stupid jokes.
09:05They look like little wasabi balls.
09:09Everyone else just seems like, you know, they're cracking jokes every five minutes and like
09:13a stitch will take them five minutes and then they wonder why they can't finish in time.
09:19It's a lot of pressure for us to come up with something on a constant basis.
09:25Some people might crumble under the pressure and some prevail.
09:32Michael Kors looks at every single little detail.
09:37He'll be like, I want to like it, I just don't.
09:40I just don't.
09:41It's a little nerve-wracking knowing that this is kind of the Michael Kors challenge and he's
09:45going to be judging your piece too because not only do you want to be true to yourself
09:49and put something out there that has your point of view, but you also have to impress Michael.
09:54I just want the perfect fit so that he approves my design, whether I'm safe or I'm in the top
10:00three or God forbid I'm in the bottom three.
10:03Yeah, there's a lot of pressure on this one.
10:09Coming up on project runway.
10:11I know I want to put a lot of time in the belt, but it can't all be about the belt.
10:14I know we all hope that the other one like totally chokes.
10:17There is no dress.
10:18It just makes me nervous to leave you like this.
10:33Althea.
10:34Yeah, I kind of like it better.
10:35Michael Kors gets inspiration from places that he's visited.
10:39And he's given us seven of his favorite locations.
10:44So it's our job to take these locations and create a garment using that place as our inspiration.
10:54For most of the challenges, I found myself on the top.
10:59Then it just went downhill from there.
11:03I really have to show them that I have a sophisticated side and that I have a high style side.
11:09I really like my design and I know that it has a simple silhouette, but then making it special in some other way.
11:21That's so fantastic.
11:23Hi, everybody.
11:24I'm here to check in with you, okay?
11:27And owing to your adjacency to the door, you're the lucky winner, Jordana.
11:30Okay.
11:32So talk to me.
11:33I have not started my dress yet, but the whole focus is this necklace that I'm making.
11:39What I'm doing is, like, because it has this busy focus here, you know, I didn't want to be busy down there.
11:46I just want you to start on this dress as soon as possible and then play with that more later.
11:51Okay.
11:52Because I don't want you to be in a jam where you have this beautiful neck piece, but then there is no dress.
11:58It just makes me nervous to leave you like this.
12:01All right, are you confident?
12:02I am.
12:03Work hard.
12:04Oh, well.
12:06Thank you, Tim.
12:07So, Althea.
12:08Hey.
12:09This is looking cute.
12:11Talk to me.
12:12Well, I did everything in a muslin first just because for Saint-Tropez, I feel like it has to look expensive and tailoring is a must.
12:21It is a must.
12:22Just watch all the proportions.
12:24It's men's wear tailoring, but it's for a woman.
12:27It's not as though it's her boyfriend's shirt.
12:29Sure.
12:30I mean, what man can I wear this?
12:32Yeah.
12:33All right, I'm going to leave you.
12:36Okay.
12:38Go, go, go.
12:39Christopher.
12:40Tim, how are you?
12:41I'm good.
12:42So, talk to me.
12:43What my plan is, is to make this flowy little dress that has the blue here, got some white, and then the bottom is going to be a chiffon.
12:53And in the center to break this up is going to be a belt that's going to be this brown as a base with some diamond-shaped kind of cut-outs.
13:02I think you want to avoid, I'm going to use that dreaded word, cliches.
13:06I know I want to put a lot of time in the belt.
13:08Yeah, but it can't all be about the belt.
13:10No, no, no.
13:11If this top and this skirt aren't fabulous, no one's going to care.
13:15Exactly, yeah, yeah.
13:16Do it.
13:17Okay?
13:18I'm going to do it.
13:19Exuberant, sophisticated.
13:20I'm writing it down right now.
13:21All right.
13:22Thank you, Christopher.
13:23Thank you, sir.
13:24I appreciate it.
13:25I'm definitely surprised Christopher is still here.
13:26I mean, his dress looks like something like an Amish woman would wear.
13:30Carol Hannah, how are you?
13:32Hello.
13:33Well, how are you?
13:34So we have Palm Beach.
13:35We do have Palm Beach.
13:36Talk to me.
13:37Well, when I first started thinking about this, I knew I wanted to do a print.
13:41Something that would immediately evoke the idea of the beach.
13:46And I wanted to do a long, flowy dress.
13:50What about the design of this dress?
13:53You can't get it somewhere else.
13:55A word from the last runway show has stuck in my head, not in a good way.
13:59And the word is cliche.
14:00Mm-hmm.
14:01And that's what I'm afraid those may be.
14:03Yeah.
14:04Carol Hannah, you still have a lot to do.
14:06Yeah, I do.
14:07Just keep it up.
14:08All right?
14:09You should go in that direction.
14:12Nicholas.
14:13Hi, Tim.
14:14I'm doing a very fashion-forward younger woman.
14:18This is going to be the base of it, but it's going to have also a little bit more sheer,
14:22which is going to have kind of sort of criss-crossing around maybe like three or four times.
14:27It's different.
14:28Well, different is good.
14:30Yeah.
14:31As long as different is also stunning.
14:33It's proportion, it's fit, and it's the silhouette.
14:36All right.
14:37Thank you, Tim.
14:38Thank you, Nicholas.
14:41Logan.
14:42Hi, Tim.
14:43So you have Hollywood.
14:44Yeah.
14:45Tell me who she is.
14:46I don't know.
14:47I think that the silhouette is just really young and just comfortable,
14:49and it speaks really Hollywood and California to me.
14:53And then this sweater is just going to be kind of oversized with big pockets,
14:58so she's kind of a comfortable look.
15:00All right.
15:01You have a ton of work to do.
15:02I know I do.
15:03Think cohesion among the parts.
15:05Mm-hmm.
15:06And wow, everybody.
15:07Yeah.
15:08All right.
15:09Thank you, Logan.
15:10Thanks, Tim.
15:12Hi, Rena.
15:13Hi, Tim.
15:14How are you?
15:15Good.
15:16Busy.
15:17You're busy, and you've already accomplished a lot.
15:19Talk to me.
15:20I did a pant.
15:21It's a tight but fitted pant.
15:23You know, it's casual, but it's still dressed up.
15:25And I really wanted to do sort of a really layered, luxe look.
15:29And it almost looks like she's wearing a full scarf.
15:32It's a giant cowl.
15:33Yeah.
15:34The third piece of the look is going to be a vest out of the faux fur.
15:38What you need to just watch through this entire process of the rest of this day is every proportional relationship.
15:46Yeah.
15:47Everything.
15:48Okay.
15:49Thank you, Irina.
15:50All right, Tim.
15:52I think that at this point, Irina's outfit is kind of borderlining costume for a film.
15:57It's really not my thing.
15:59All right, designers.
16:00I will tell you, I'm excited by the potential here.
16:04But you all have a lot of work to do.
16:07I'm going to send in your models now.
16:09You will have 30 minutes with them.
16:11And remember, you have until midnight tonight.
16:14Okay?
16:16I'll see you later.
16:18Hello everyone.
16:19Hi.
16:20The model is coming and I'm like freaking out.
16:27I'm not ready for you yet.
16:29It's like, what the hell am I going to put on her?
16:31A necklace?
16:32I have to complete the dress.
16:35You know what's funny?
16:36What?
16:37I was in a hurry and cut these.
16:39I put the jeans on Celine and I've got to figure out a way to get a couple more inches in there
16:44because right now they're not going to work.
16:47The model fitting with Koji is going great.
16:53Unfortunately, I don't have the time right now to drape the top.
16:56So I will have to be fitting her literally moments before we go on the runway.
17:00I'm doing some last minute alterations.
17:08There are moments when I look around and like the level of creativity or craftsmanship hasn't increased in any way.
17:15They're getting by on just like doing the bare minimum.
17:18And I try to top what I did the previous challenge because I do like well-made clothes.
17:23I mean, who doesn't?
17:24Clothes should be well-made.
17:25Irina came here.
17:27It was pretty clear from the beginning that she wasn't really here to make friends.
17:31I think it bothered other people.
17:33She's not going to bait around the bush.
17:35I basically have about an hour left before the end of the day.
17:41And I completely have my last wits because I have never worked with Jersey before.
17:47I'm not loving this fabric.
17:49The drape has started to look very Grecian goddess, which is something that I completely do not want.
17:54And I don't know what to do.
18:01If Christopher can put that garment down the runway and not get eliminated, then I don't know what's going on.
18:06After I got all my elements together, I stood back and I looked at it and I thought, oh no.
18:12This is Little House of the Prairie.
18:19With just a couple minutes to spare, I took about 20 inches off the bottom of the dress.
18:24I'm so happy I hacked that off.
18:30I'll be honest.
18:31I'm like, look, I ran out of time.
18:39You look different today.
18:41It's because I'm about to rip my hair out.
18:44I think I'm in a lot of trouble.
18:46Shut up.
18:47No.
18:48You say that every time.
18:49And then you win.
18:50I really, truly feel that, you know, the seven of us are an amazing group and I am very close to each one of us.
18:58Like, I don't want to go home.
19:00I don't want to, like, stay here.
19:02I mean, I know we all hope that the other one, like, totally chokes.
19:06But, you know, I feel that we're all very talented and that's why it's so hard to pick out who the judges are going to love and who the judges are going to hate.
19:15Bryant Park definitely feels closer.
19:17It kind of really puts this extra adrenaline rush and sort of like this extra, like, energy inside you.
19:25It makes everything a bit more intense.
19:28There's so few of us left now that a person leaving is two-sided.
19:37It's like, yay, one down, you know, one less, I'm still here.
19:40But it's a really weird feeling that whether we like it or not, someone is leaving tomorrow.
19:46Coming up on Project Runway.
19:56Everybody's silently panicking.
19:58Had a little mental breakdown.
20:00It's a little scary.
20:01Please follow me.
20:02We're going to the runway.
20:03Unbelievable.
20:04It's just like do or die.
20:13You want some bacon?
20:15Sure.
20:16This morning, what feels so good about my dress?
20:19I realized what I really wanted to do a little bit too late.
20:22It's a little scary.
20:24Nicholas, what do you have left to do?
20:27Well, obviously, we all remember how Nicholas had a little freak out last night.
20:31I had a little mental breakdown last night because when I got time to do my top, I blanked.
20:38I can't wait to see what, like, Michael thinks about it.
20:41Ready?
20:42I'm ready.
20:43Going into the work room this morning, everything needs a bit of steaming, a few touch-ups, but I'm feeling pretty good.
21:05I'm cutting a new waistband just in case, but I'm banking on when Celine comes in before her makeup that these pants are going to fit.
21:15The work room is very quiet.
21:18Everybody's silently panicking and trying to finish.
21:23Good morning, designers.
21:24Good morning, Tan.
21:25I'm about to send in your models.
21:27You have two hours to send them to the Garnier hair studio and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
21:32Please use the Macy's accessory wall very thoughtfully and wow those judges.
21:37All right, I'm going to send in your models.
21:38I can't wait to see this.
21:39This is so gorgeous.
21:40I love it.
21:41I think it's going to be so cool.
21:42I hacked, like, 20 inches off the bottom.
21:43It's so funny.
21:44I'm so glad that at the last minute I cut that skirt off.
21:45Bringing it up makes it a lot more cute and sophisticated and the belt is hot.
21:58I really like what my dress looks like.
22:02But then on the other hand, you really never know is your idea going to say the image that you're supposed to portray.
22:11Better?
22:12Good.
22:13Yay.
22:14We put the jeans on and they fit perfect.
22:16So it's just this huge relief.
22:18This hem is so long.
22:20It's taking forever to finish.
22:22But if it looks like crap coming down the runway, they don't really care how much detail you put in the top
22:27because you obviously didn't bother to finish your dress.
22:30Okay.
22:31Perfect.
22:32Nicholas kind of went off in his own world on this one.
22:36Okay.
22:37Great.
22:38Okay.
22:39Perfect.
22:40As I'm looking at my outfit, I absolutely do not see grease in it.
22:43But a person can definitely wear it in grease.
22:46As I'm working, I definitely see Saint Tropez.
22:49I mean, I'm sort of like, why hasn't anyone made this before?
22:53Been wearing it there because they need to.
22:56Very sun-kissed, Saint Tropez.
23:03Let's do the sleek look, young Hollywood.
23:12Okay, thank you.
23:17I have the most to gain, I think, from this competition.
23:30When I apply for a fashion designer position with a company, I don't have that degree.
23:35I don't have that piece of paper.
23:36So I'm pushed aside.
23:37And no one takes a look at my experience and my talent and my ambition and my drive.
23:42And now I think people are going to see it.
23:45I have so many things left that I really want to do.
23:49I'm running out of time.
23:50My model has not a drop of makeup on her face.
23:55That's it.
23:56We're done.
23:57I mean, the necklace is incredible.
23:58Mm-hmm.
23:59All right, let's go do the sleeves quick.
24:03Designers and models.
24:05Unbelievable.
24:06Please follow me.
24:07We're going to the runway.
24:08We're going to have a great show.
24:10Let's go, everyone.
24:11You know, when we first started this, you could always pick out, like, the weaklings.
24:16But just looking around the room, there's nobody to take the fall at this point.
24:19It's just, like, do or die.
24:21Congratulations to everyone.
24:24Coming up on Project Runway.
24:27For me, I'm wearable.
24:28It's just basic clothes.
24:29You didn't go far enough.
24:30It was just ugly.
24:41Welcome to the runway.
24:42As you know, in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day, you're out.
24:47There are seven of you here, and after tonight, there will be six.
24:51This week, you met with our very own Michael Kors, who instructed you to create a design inspired
24:57by fabulous locations.
25:00You had $150 in one day to put it together.
25:03And we're looking forward to seeing what you've done.
25:05All right.
25:06Let's meet the judges.
25:07First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
25:10Hey, Michael.
25:11Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine, Nina Garcia.
25:15Hi, everyone.
25:16And actress, L'Oreal spokesperson, and CFDA-nominated designer, Mila Jovovich.
25:23We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:30One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
25:35Let's start the show.
25:41I really like the look coming down the runway.
25:44The only thing that I'm a little concerned about is if it really speaks loudly of Hollywood.
25:50I think that I might have to do some explaining, but at this point, I'm really proud of what I made.
25:57I could totally picture my model walking the streets in Saint-Tropez, you know, jumping into a convertible on our way to a yacht.
26:09And I think she would have fit in nicely, and I definitely think she would have made a statement as well.
26:14As I'm watching my garment, I'm really happy with an overall look.
26:20I mean, I don't really care that it was from Greece or whatever, but I can definitely see people wearing it.
26:25You can go through life just not taking risks.
26:29The dress looks really good coming down the runway.
26:35It definitely reads Palm Beach.
26:37I feel like you can definitely see me in this dress.
26:40The detailing at the top is very much along the lines of things that I do, but I don't know if it's exactly what the judges are looking for for the challenge.
26:51Seeing Matar hit the runway, she looks beautiful.
26:58Everything's hitting exactly where it's supposed to go.
27:00The lines are where they're supposed to be.
27:02I'm really happy with my fabric choices.
27:04I'm extremely happy with my color choices.
27:07It's a very proud moment.
27:09I definitely see Aspen when I look at my garment.
27:14She looks like a sexy, rich snow bunny.
27:18I wanted to do a very warm brown color palette, and I think the colors really work well together, and I'm really happy about that.
27:27My dress is definitely a little bit out there compared to everybody else's.
27:33The only thing that I'm worried about is the color of the dress.
27:38Because my winning garment was gray, I chose gray again, but gray looks great with crystals.
27:48Athea, please step forward.
27:53Your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
27:56You can hit the runway.
28:01The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores.
28:05One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
28:10Let's bring out your models.
28:22Irina, you got inspired by Aspen.
28:24I did actually want to do pants that are inspired by maybe like ski pants.
28:29She could ski, but she'd probably sip some champagne at the lodge.
28:34Definitely this girl is a character. She doesn't ski.
28:37Yeah, no.
28:38No.
28:39It's like a little girl playing the grand dame of Aspen. It's cool. I like it.
28:46There's some surprise when she took off the little faux fur vest.
28:50You have that back. Can I see that?
28:52You know, so there's some sex involved. It's a very kind of literal 80s kind of Aspen thing.
29:01Yeah.
29:02You kind of twisted it around a little bit.
29:05It draws you in into the fantasy that you want to be this girl and look this way.
29:11I think, too, that you've done an incredible job looking at these pants. I mean, they are impeccable.
29:18Christopher, you were inspired by Santa Fe. Please tell us about your look.
29:23I was inspired by the color story and the elements going on in landscape, and I saw sand, sky, and these rocky bluffs.
29:31This is what I came up with.
29:33When I hear Santa Fe, I think about George O'Keefe, fantastic turquoise, perhaps a little more vivid colors.
29:41I think it's so important that you use the inspiration, but we don't turn it into a costume.
29:47But quite simply, I don't think anyone who's ever thought about the American West would get that from this look.
29:56Mila, what do you think?
29:57I love the belt. It's got this, like, 1983 kind of charm about it.
30:04I think that the way the leather is like a puzzle, I think, is really beautiful.
30:08But it's the only interesting thing about this garment, unfortunately.
30:12Carol Hanna, you were inspired by Palm Beach.
30:16The things that came to my mind were sunshine, the beach, you know, kind of a relaxed but dressed up feeling.
30:24And this is what it developed into.
30:27I love the choice of print.
30:29And I also love the braiding that you did here and in the back.
30:34Can she turn around?
30:35It's actually a twist.
30:37It's beautiful.
30:39I would live in that dress.
30:41Love it.
30:42At-home glamour.
30:43You picked the right fabric, and you've really sewed it together beautifully.
30:48I think the fabric's gorgeous.
30:50You know, you're dealing with a place where it is all about explosive color, pattern.
30:56You know, that's a pinstripe in Palm Beach, that print.
30:59Really?
31:00Literally.
31:01Trust me.
31:02And I think that the interesting thing is one kind of girl would wear that with flip-flops,
31:07or you might put on some serious jewelry with it and turn it into a dressy dress.
31:13Nicolas.
31:14Well, I had grease, so I sort of imagined it as a little more of a high-end place.
31:20You know, she's a little bit edgy and more interesting, and so that's what I did.
31:25I think you got the wrong grease.
31:27I think you got grease in the movie with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
31:31Where is the fantasy of this outfit?
31:34Why would I want to go into a store and spend my money on this?
31:38It's odd that the body part of the top is very tight, and then the sleeves are super loose.
31:44I do like the shirt.
31:47To do that top as, like, a dress, I almost wish that you had taken the idea of the shirt
31:52and just gone all the way with it.
31:55Jordana, you had Park Avenue as your inspiration.
31:59Yes.
32:00I'm imagining the socialites, the gallery openings.
32:05Most of my money went on the crystals on it, and I know it's another great dress,
32:10but I didn't really have much money for the fabric.
32:13I love the necklace.
32:14I think you could see the work you put into it.
32:17The dress, I almost wished that it was more simple.
32:20Ideally, that's what I was going for, but then I looked kind of too simple when I put it together.
32:27I think it's quite beautiful.
32:30The necklace is amazing.
32:31Whether it's not really a necklace as part of the dress, I think it's very, very special.
32:36Actually, I made it so that she can take it off and wear it with, like, jeans and a really cool top and just have the necklace.
32:42I think it's a really sexy, sophisticated sleek dress. It's urban. It's all of the things that really are very Park Avenue.
32:51Logan, you got inspired by Hollywood.
32:54My initial inspiration was kind of younger Hollywood, so Lindsay Lohan or Mary Kate maybe walking down the boulevard shopping.
33:04I did want to do denim for the pants and just adding some zippers to make it a little bit more edgy.
33:11If you were going to go with this new generation, it's a lot on the styling, and I don't think that you managed to do that here.
33:18It's just basic clothes.
33:20I have to say I didn't mind it so much.
33:23You've designed in the beginning much younger, and it was a bit more edgy, and I feel like I can see that again today.
33:28If you are going to deal with sportswear separates like this, blow the jean shape out. Make it an outrageous shape.
33:36Spray paint them.
33:38Do something. They're clothes. They're not fashion.
33:42Pants, jeans. I mean, this is one of the biggest money-making businesses in the world, and people are pulling it out when it comes to design, fabric, colors.
33:51I mean, there's good ideas in there, and I just think next time, just really go for it.
33:57Okay, we've heard what you had to say. We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back. You can leave the runway. Thank you.
34:13Okay, let's talk about the designers that we did like. Let's start with Irina.
34:17I think she took the interpretation, and she really developed it into that dream. It looked lux.
34:23She did a lot of pieces for $150.
34:26It had runway power, and it looked like Aspen, but I wished from the waist up, like, there was some surprise.
34:31Or maybe a different color, maybe not also a camel.
34:34It's almost too much.
34:36Let's move on to a Giordana.
34:38She spent all that time creating that necklace, which it was cool to hear that you could take it off and wear it with a T-shirt and jeans, whatever.
34:46Exactly.
34:47It fit the part. It was Park Avenue. It was uptown.
34:50Yeah, the fantasy was there.
34:51Right.
34:52I think Giordana needs to be more confident all around.
34:55The last thing I want to see is a designer putting down their own dress, like, as they're presenting it to you.
35:00Yeah.
35:01But she's very good.
35:04All right, let's talk about Carol Hanna.
35:06I thought that the fabric was a smart choice. I liked the detailing. It definitely looked like Palm Beach.
35:12Oh, definitely.
35:13Oh, yeah.
35:14She is talented. You could see by the detailing that she's got something to say and she can do it well.
35:19I'd love the fabric, but she needed that little extra.
35:24Let's talk about the designers with the lower scores. Let's start with Christopher.
35:29I did think he had a problem with the proportions. The skirt was too short. The sleeves were too boxy.
35:35Unwearable. For me, unwearable.
35:37I was surprised that someone who could make a belt that's so cool would make the rest of that outfit so kind of sad.
35:45It was just ugly.
35:48Let's talk about Nicolas.
35:50His grease is a song. That's what I think.
35:54It's really too bad because the idea could have been great if he would have just taken the pants away and sort of not cut the thing.
36:01My big question is, you walked into mood and you were like, oh, gray menswear fabric. Ooh, that's what's talking to me.
36:11I mean, white t-shirt.
36:13Nothing says grease more than gray menswear.
36:16Wow.
36:18Let's move on to Logan. I have to say I didn't mind it. I feel like it's the first time that I see him coming back.
36:26Well, listen, if this was called project, I didn't mind it, then he would win.
36:32People are doing really interesting things right now.
36:36So he's got to be able to take that sportswear and twist it, take it off.
36:38You've got to take it to the next level because jeans and a t-shirt doesn't cut it.
36:42No.
36:44Okay, so we've made our decision.
36:48All right, let's bring them back up.
36:52The six of you will present the best and the worst.
37:04One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out.
37:10Carol, Hannah, you're in. You can use the runway.
37:34Irina, you are the winner of this challenge.
37:38On such a limited budget, you gave us a majorly luxe look.
37:43It looked aspen and it made us want to sip champagne in a ski lodge.
37:50Congratulations. You can use the runway.
37:59It feels amazing knowing that I won three challenges.
38:02It's definitely a great reinforcement that the judges like my work
38:06and they are understanding me as a designer, what I'm doing.
38:10But it's a lot of pressure.
38:12I kind of have to compete with what I've already done and top that.
38:19Jordana?
38:22Good job.
38:23But you need to have confidence and defend your designs.
38:26You're selling yourself short on the runway.
38:30Okay.
38:32You can use the runway.
38:34See you, Mila.
38:42For the rest of you, you're all very talented.
38:51But again, you have to really pump up the volume.
38:55Logan.
38:56Logan.
38:57You're in.
38:58You can use the runway.
39:00You're in.
39:01You can use the runway.
39:03Christopher.
39:04Nicolas.
39:05One of you will be out.
39:06Christopher.
39:07Nicolas.
39:08One of you will be out.
39:09Nicolas.
39:10You sadly missed the mark.
39:12This outfit in no way red grease.
39:13You didn't think about the challenge.
39:14Christopher.
39:15You are in the bottom too, yet again.
39:19Your look was wishy-washy and didn't give us a sense of place.
39:20Where was the fantasy and aspiration?
39:21You are in the back.
39:22Christopher, what's the sole?
39:23Christopher, what's the point in your forehead?
39:24You didn't think about the challenge.
39:25Christopher, you looked at the bottom too, yet again.
39:27You look was wishy-washy and didn't give us a sense of place.
39:43Where was the fantasy and aspiration?
39:45Inspiration
39:50Christopher
39:55You're in
40:07You can leave the runway
40:15I'm sorry, Nicholas. That means you're out
40:31Afirazin
40:34Bye guys
40:36I don't know how you guys do it every week
40:54Why are you guys crying? Don't cry
40:56Yeah, this is the last time you've heard of me
40:58I am so gonna take a break and
41:01Maybe move to London or Paris or Japan or you know become a sheep herder. No, I'm just kidding
41:05I'm gonna miss you. I'm really proud of everything. I've done and it was such a roller coaster
41:16You know work was beautifully executed as a matter of taste
41:21So Nicholas I just sent you to the work room to clean up your space of course, okay. All right guys
41:26You're a great designer, and I'll see you guys later
41:29Bye
41:33Sad
41:34Because of my over-the-top style
41:37It's been very hard for me to like break into the fashion industry
41:39So I'm gonna stay strong and I'm gonna keep fighting. I've been fighting my whole life
41:44It was an amazing experience and I wouldn't trade it for anything
41:49Next week on project runway
41:51We are facing away from the runway which we've never done before your challenge is it's one of the most horrifying moments
41:59I really don't want to you'll see who the real designers are
42:03I feel like it's a big scary mess. You're not going to get an argument from me
42:07I look over and Logan's collar is the same collar that I did in the christina aguilera challenge
42:12I hate Logan
42:14Right now it looks like it's waiting for a diaper
42:18This didn't work at all we did tell you to turn up the volume but this exploded
42:42So
