01:11During the last challenge, I was one of the bottom three.
01:12And I almost, like, shit my pants, seriously.
01:13Because I want to make it to Bryant Park.
01:14I really want to show people what I got.

01:29In the last challenge, I was one of the bottom three, and I almost, like, shit my pants,
01:35seriously.

01:46I'm really mad that Keith left, because we would've been still roommates, but now I'm
01:52with three new roommates, and it's kind of like the first day all over again.
01:56but there's only four guys left so i'm definitely proud to be one of the last four standing you
02:02guys ready to head to parsons so we can get down with miss heidi all right let's go let's go
02:10hello so before we talk about your next challenge let's bring out the winning and losing designers
02:28models leanne you were the winner of the last challenge so you have the option of swapping
02:42models with a fellow designer your model was carolyn if you decide to stay with her
02:48lisa will be out what do you want to do i'm thrilled to have carolyn as my model so i'm
02:56going to keep her thank you that means i will sell you out after that thank you
03:15okay are you ready for your next challenge yes well let me bring out a special guest
03:21to fill you in on all the details
03:22it's just a little old me hi hi i want to welcome our very own tim gunn thank you heidi
03:40designers for this challenge you will be designing for a fashion legend
03:44maybe an older celebrity who knows i'm just so relieved that we're not going to be designing an
03:52outfit for tim gunn and i'm taking you to meet this legend now so everybody up let's do it you guys have
04:00fun and i see you on the runway all right i think mary kate lives down here she does actually she told
04:14me to tell you that she wanted to see you today i have not a clue where we're going my first thought
04:20about a fashion legend is mary kate olsen i want every challenge to be involved with mary kate
04:25i want to marry mary kate who doesn't besides tim gunn feels good to feel the fun i'm from around here
04:35and i know that we were in the meatpacking district so now i'm thinking okay the meatpacking district has
04:40serious major league designers there we arrive at this beautiful showroom and we're like what what's
04:54going on is project runway so anything's possible i'm just freaking out because the colors are beautiful
05:00and i'm like okay well what are we going to do exactly in here designers we are in the offices of a
05:06fashion legend so let's welcome her oh my goodness it's diane how are you nice to meet you hi nice
05:28i got kind of teary-eyed because this is the biggest opportunity that's come to me ever
05:34i really love diane von versenberg so it's big hello hello i was at a loss for words it was like
05:44a dream come true i mean seriously she is one of the living legends of fashion the magnificent diane
05:50von versenberg how are you good how are you wonderful we're thrilled to be here well designers i'm very
05:57happy that you're here today and i have a great great challenge for you today i will be asking you
06:03to create a look for my fall collection inspired by the movie foreign affair the character is marlene
06:13dietrich who i think is the most glamorous woman in the world and she is a singer a performer or maybe
06:19she's a spy and she starts in berlin and she has to escape to shanghai to end up in new york it's the
06:28end of the 30s the 40s and you can see in the back a few samples of it i will say no designer in history
06:36understands how to work with prints and different colors the way that diane von versenberg does
06:41and so that's why you will go to the sample room and you'll be able to pick up some of my fabrics yes
06:47diane has arranged for you to visit her sample room yes but before we go diane has a very special
06:53announcement to make yes indeed thanks to my long relationship with american express the winning
07:00look will be produced and sold exclusively to american express card members and part of the proceeds
07:10will go to the cfda foundation so we will make a lot of people happy this is thrilling isn't it

07:46the dvf sample room is amazing there were just bolts of fabric and you know it wasn't cheap i was in
07:56heaven i immediately run for this really gorgeous print i love diane von versenberg's print and i really
08:07want to win this one bad i would be happy to win this one and that's it i'm sorry i'm scared i am
08:17frightened
08:20we can get it off the shelf can we get someone to help you stella somebody needs one so if it's not
08:25going to come out and you can't get anyone to help you move along something that you can i see my fabrics
08:29right here in front of me and they're all in the same row here stella oh my god you're a powerhouse
08:36i think i got it it's a good thing diane wasn't there watching this because her fabrics i'm sure are
08:41her babies and she would not have been happy seeing all this stuff flying all over the place designers you
08:47have less than five minutes remaining you should all be cutting good heavens wow i want to be different so i
08:55find this black mohair for a jacket and then i find some silk with all these fireworks on it number one
09:04is marlena dietrich number two i can work off some thickening pants gotta win it designers that's it time
09:13done okay all right let's go
09:30i finally have a winning garment it's such a great relief knowing that i have immunity but i fully intend to
09:39push the boundaries because i still really want to win while having immunity all right designers you
09:46have your fabric and your notions there is a look book for each of you use it thoughtfully all right
09:53so you have until midnight tonight thank you all see you later as i go through diane von firstenberg's
10:03lookbook i noticed how a lot of her looks are layered and so it was a great opportunity to do
10:09two or three pieces but we have a 12 o'clock deadline so this is going to be definitely a tight one
10:16is everyone doing three pieces i'm trying to
10:21you making a dress yeah i'm making a jacket a top and a skirt that's crazy i just want to get a really
10:28really good dress together inspired by 1940s shanghai and not try to do
10:35three horribly crafted pieces in less than nine hours
10:43be quiet over this way you all right yep what are you doing with this too yeah i was gonna do a jacket
10:49but it was too much it's too much pressure i am focusing my look on berlin and camouflage
10:58masculine inspired fabric suede is just focused on what suede is here to do working on his look
11:04and hoping that diane von firstenberg adores it i'm surprised you chose black with all that color
11:11i'm thinking about putting this in her hair yeah you might want to step back you might need to use
11:18that editing i want to win so bad like i've been on the chopping block before again you know i'm known to
11:26just kind of throw up the hop you know the neon colors and so i kind of want to give more of a
11:31basic silhouette like a spy or undercover or something but i'm a risk taker and you know
11:37i like to show versatility and not just another pair of the same pants like somebody else does
11:47oh these are great fittings i believe i could win this challenge because it's a lot of androgynous
11:53wear and that's my entire look she's a spy and she's trying to keep her cover and i'm gonna make
12:01the coat and then the shirt and the vest as of right now pants are done this is great i love the
12:07fabric this is very well and it has stretch to it so it's really good looks like a pant what is this
12:14fabric it's fireworks horrible why did she make fireworks oh say can you see the perception with
12:25terry is that she just keeps pulling out the same look i mean it's the same tired one trick pony act
12:30with the blazer and the pant all right next stage oh my god do you know what you're making out a jacket
12:42and a dress how about you terry coat shirt pant dress what are you gonna do you know what you're gonna do
12:51yet yeah look cool you're not gonna tell us i didn't want to tell leanne what i was doing because
13:02it wasn't leanne's business then also i don't trust harry i don't ask for details i mean you're making a
13:09dress okay great i don't care but we're at that stage yeah i know the competition is heating up and
13:16people are feeling it i see it kato may be tripping too let me see what are you making it's like this
13:22i'm making the vest i make the baddest vest you want to make one make one we'll see who turns out
13:26the top on the runway it's just really interesting to see people getting really competitive and
13:35closed off it's every man for themselves right now
13:38coming up on project runway so you didn't even use what two yards yeah i didn't make three pieces
13:47it's a lot of pressure i like it
13:57oh hot hot what's all about this blue that's really pretty it wants to feel dark and mysterious
14:05diane's fall collection is entitled a foreign affair which is pretty much the story of this
14:10this traveling woman who's kind of a spy she's kind of glamorous she goes from like berlin to shanghai
14:16to new york and i'm working on a jacket a turtleneck gloves and with a line skirt
14:23yeah there's a legend of a designer critiquing your work tomorrow and this is a prize you actually
14:28really really really want yeah this is a prize better than immunity any day i don't think anybody wants
14:33her reading them reading them tomorrow i just like to say it's just too much i'm really pushing
14:43in this challenge i want to just blow diane away so my design is a beautiful flowing evening dress
14:49i want it to be something that's chic something that's very wearable for anybody of any size and just
14:55to stand out oh pressure i hope i'm doing the right thing going against the grain over here diane
15:04von furstenberg needs to see what my design aesthetic is and how it mixes with hers so i'm making three
15:11pieces a cape a vest and a pair of pants is this one shanghai i decided to do a backless oriental
15:26inspired top so it's essentially a shirt but it wraps around the back and i like the direction that
15:32i'm going in i believe that i can make it all the way through as a top contender for this competition
15:37it's brian park uh all the way i kind of wish i didn't have stretch but it's the color that i want
15:44my design is a cropped trench coat with a long silk gown i'm really not so much a femme fatale
15:53sad to say i've actually never been out of the country so i have had no foreign affairs
15:59i would love to be a spy secret agently animal and i would hunt every buddy down like an animal
16:13i'm a spy but maybe you're a performer as well yes
16:20so i would love to be a spy but i'm fearful that my blue hair might give me away
16:25i like it oh you know is it bulky no it doesn't look bulky no i like it
16:37philly you didn't even use what two yards yep i didn't make three pieces no i'm saying that's good
16:43oh i just i love the fabric everyone's doing layers and multiple items and kenly likes a dress if she
16:51gets called out about it i won't be surprised but that's kindling actually i had to work with this
16:57fabric because there was only a yard and a half i'm like i'm gonna make this work because i'm obsessed
17:02with this print i know what she's getting at but at least i'm gonna stand out the most rather than
17:09something that looks completely half-assed hi everybody hi how is everyone pretty good i'm here
17:22to check in with you slade hey tim how are you doing good i'm doing really well talk to me i was really
17:30inspired by the berlin and um i thought this kind of like gave a camouflagey feeling
17:35you look perplexed i will tell you this visually i'm not getting it it wasn't sexy enough so what
17:45i did is i'm adding this little like well well yeah it's actually a separate base and it's gonna be
17:50all one okay just think about the shape of the vest to the dress okay and just be careful there isn't
17:59too much fullness in here thank you thanks tim questions if i have a little bit too much fullness
18:06so i'm making some adjustments i'm here to work it out because suede's going to bryant park leanne
18:14hi tim this color is phenomenally beautiful i love this fabric and then i'm doing a jacket over the top
18:23of it i mean i will say this the dress has such a sublime shape by comparison oh this jacket is
18:31looking too long it is too long it just looks sloppy to me right now and i don't agree i don't want it
18:36to look sloppy what if it were really shrunken yeah can we take the jacket off shorter all right
18:44you have thinking to do okay thank you thank you thank you hi joe hi so this is shanghai this is shanghai
18:52i see it my idea was to do a hooded shawl huh i like the outerwear element with the pockets of the
19:02shawl well i'll say this you're being ambitious you're stepping up and out yeah i hope so that's
19:07what i was hoping can you pull all this off in the time frame yes i can just watch your time i know it's
19:12slip it away yeah it's for everybody thank you kato hi kim i kind of wanted to do like a little
19:19three-layer look yeah there's something kind of slingy i love seeing this volume on the top i had
19:28this yellow here i did play with putting some more yellow what's the yellow doing it has a little pop
19:33it looks like a bra strap you think so yeah i thought of even putting the yellow under here there
19:40i respond positively so i really love my yellow you know it's growing on me the more i look at it but i
19:45don't know whether that's a good thing or a bad thing kato thank you thank you work work work
19:53stella hi kim i'm well thank you good talk to me tell me what you're doing this woman is a traveler
20:00she's traveling she's from paris right is that what diane's berlin oh berlin okay whatever she's a
20:07traveler so i've got her in pants okay and a vest and there is a cape and i might make a small shirt
20:15just to cover up the back you want this to be cohesive the last challenge the big objection was
20:23that the skirt and the little biker vest top they didn't find them to be cohesive they were clueless
20:29because they weren't open-minded and i think the stylist with the oversized moo moo dress in the
20:35waistband didn't know any better sorry rachel's though we mean that only in the nicest way no i don't
20:40i really mean it stella time okay thank you kenly hi kim how are you good i see shanghai okay good
20:51so what are you doing at the waistband this i'm gonna make a belt with this underneath nothing
20:57extra that little no nothing okay i don't know i loved this print and i wanted it to be simple
21:03well it's shanghai it should be simple but do you like it yeah i really do i mean a simple silhouette
21:09but that's a plus well it could go either way let me put it that way beautiful silhouette beautiful
21:14thank you thank you all right designers you have until midnight tonight okay thank you good night
21:28him comes in and he likes the dress he said it was a beautiful silhouette and it makes me feel really
21:33good it's getting harder yeah it is there's more pressure this is like bigger than big dude it's huge
21:44for me the winner of this challenge i know is going to be known by everybody i know i feel like i'm
21:53getting really emotional because it's a lot of pressure to design for someone this big and i've never
22:01done anything like it i know a lot of the other designers have worked with big designers before i haven't
22:08i've always have worked for myself or walmart or something or came art so this is huge
22:17coming up on project runway a little crooked but i don't care 60 second skirt something like that we're all
22:23all screwed so like the wind so the cutoff time is midnight and really i don't think it's enough time
22:36because diane von furstenberg is very respected and the stakes are pretty high i mean to be able to design
22:42a garment that goes into her collection everybody really wants to do their best
22:45i like your white kind it's kind of like fancy but you gotta think about who the guest judge is
22:55i know she's not rock and roll the only thing that i have reservations about is the problems of the
23:03vest because of the two-sided fabrics and one's heavier than the other everything else to me looks
23:09perfect then i'm not listening to anything peace out let's go sure we can't stay
23:26this diane von furstenberg challenge is certainly the one that's the highest stakes for us all
23:31so i'm just praying that the fashion gods are going to be on my side you chantilly laces ready
23:37things i have to do to cope with the ridicule there's so much to incorporate into this month
23:42them fatale and 1930s everybody and their mama got a jacket how about you coming i did something that
23:48i wanted to do all right let's go to parcel good morning everybody good morning you have an

24:28hello hi good morning ladies good morning i still don't have a blouse yet for her yeah not uh-uh because
24:36it ain't finished we're all screwed 60 second skirt something like that yeah so we went to that all the
24:44other designers are doing three-piece looks i'm only doing a dress but at least my garments finished and
24:51it looks great i really need to hem them people are probably going to be sending unfinished garments down
24:56the runway i just have like all these finishing details to do i still have quite a bit of work
25:02left to do but i'm pretty confident it's just going to be stunning i'm just really hoping that i can get
25:07it done in time i have to figure out how i'm going to put you in here i think suede's going to be in
25:11trouble the dress is not flattering whatsoever yuck there's a hem on here it's just not working
25:18i'm actually nervous going into this elimination because it is a dream to think i could be like diane
25:23born farstenberg i want to have a line out that people know and recognize so i definitely want to
25:28win i want to win i want to win what do we do for hair and makeup i like it up off because of the
25:37turtleneck put this little head like pin it on perfect i love the eye yeah it's kind of cool
25:53designers you know what it means when i'm here at this hour it means your models have to be
25:58runway ready in 10 minutes i'll be back thank you and it's a little tight but it's good i'm feeling
26:08good it is a very polished look so much so that it might get lost amongst the crap that's going down
26:14the runway it kind of fits you perfectly it's perfect i think that joe seems overly confident
26:22in his design yes oh wow that's great i don't know where this confidence is coming from honestly
26:28to me it looks kind of like a cheap costume i'm kind of surprised that joe's still here at this stage
26:34in the game you look great yeah i am a little worried for stella put it over you take your top
26:45off put it over the vest it was too bulky and made the model look big i don't know what the judges are
26:52gonna think designers and models this is it so follow me we're going down to the runway give me a
26:59give me a double high five give me a double high five bye are we gonna go oh the pants are going
27:04on as well is that stella shell on we gotta go go go all right i guess i'll be going thank you
27:13coming up on project runway it looks like a home ec project oh dracula that's a bit too much did you get
27:20dressed in the dark hello hi welcome to the runway as you know in fashion one day you're in and the
27:35next day you're out there are nine of you here and after tonight there will be eight for this challenge
27:42you had to create a look for diane from furstenberg's ball collection the winning look will be made available
27:48exclusively to american express card members and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the cfda
27:55foundation so i hope you came ready to wow us okay let's meet the judges first we have top american
28:05designer michael kors hey guys hey michael filling in for nina garcia fern malice senior vice president
28:13of img fashion firm malice puts together the entire show at bryant park so it's kind of exciting and
28:20legendary fashion designer diane von furstenberg hi hi well we'll score your designs as they come down
28:27the runway one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out let's start the show
28:33i'm definitely taking a risk with this silhouette i believe that it works well with diane von
28:42furstenberg's theme of foreign affair i truly think that this represents me as a designer
28:54my look has the whole 1930s 1940s feel about it the gown just looks so gorgeous on carolyn
29:02and she is playing the part of seductress very well i'm really happy with what i've done
29:11severa gets on the runway and she is hitting it my outfit could either be berlin or new york
29:18i think diane's gonna love it hopefully i'll be up there as one of the top three
29:23looking at my garment on the runway i just have to take both of my hands and pat myself on the back
29:32i think that the look is something that diane could actually use in her collection i really think i
29:36can win this when i see my garment come down i love it it looks just like something i would make and i
29:44want it to be represented on the runway as something that's chic something that's very wearable i think
29:49i'm gonna do good today i am so in awe of my garment diane's gonna love my look i saw her giving me a
30:01little googly eye when we first met her she loves a tan so it's in the bag
30:06yeah tia looks great she's totally rocking the look i love the silhouette but i'm thinking diane might
30:18be a little tough i mean this is for her collection so i'm kind of nervous
30:27as i see my garment come down the runway i just think it's sharp and it's slick and it's badass
30:33that garment has a lot of style and class
30:41my dress is totally shanghai it's totally chic i took a risk by making just one piece but
30:48this is to sell i want everyone to want this dress

31:39okay i would like to start with kato tell us about your look when diane was describing this person i
31:52thought of freedom and out of the spy game you can relax and just enjoy yourself and be carefree but i
31:58also wanted to have little elements of her travels like to shanghai can we see it without the track
32:04i do like the choice of bright yellow it's very pretty thank you i think that the print is
32:11captivating you do bring in that shanghai influence and the kind of modern kimono wrap
32:17it's international and it's new york thanks the little jacket is really nice very very very
32:23i think it's great that's very interesting thank you joe well i was very inspired by the shanghai element
32:31of the foreign affair journey so i did a asian influence top and then i decided to take a bit
32:38of a risk and do a shawl with a hood i don't like the open back i agree with you the hole in the back of
32:46the shirt it looks messy even the way it crisscrosses and layers is a little odd in the bit because you
32:51have the pink belt that is shorter on one side than on the other but then you look further down
32:56at the slit of the skirt the right side is shorter than the left side i don't think that it looks
33:01cohesive it's just odd you know when all the tabloids do the what was she thinking this could be a what
33:07was she thinking from behind so just don't show your back just walk out backwards ding ding
33:14kenly i wanted to do something that i would normally do i wanted it to be colorful and chic i went with
33:23the shanghai look the spy look the musician look so i think i pretty much nailed it do you i think it's
33:32a very pretty dress i think you've made it very well but when i looked at um diane's lookbook i thought
33:39that everything was a bit more about layering you did have a lot of layering i'm sorry heidi i mean
33:45that's what you need i thought that you needed just a dress walking down the runway and something with
33:51a little more color so i thought you needed that all right well i'm glad you figured out it's a
33:57beautiful dress and it fits her nicely but it's not that difficult in my eyes it's very difficult to
34:02tailor this fabric i mean and you know it's very easy getting away with just doing one dress right i wanted to
34:08do in my dress i like this dress oh cool it's simple it's pretty you're true to yourself it is
34:17actually made beautifully thank you and i think that you styled her up and made her a little bit of
34:24a shanghai lil but it doesn't look like a costume very simple but very chic it's very wearable saleable
34:32thank you so much stella tell us about your look this woman here is 1940s and she's traveling from
34:43berlin to new york and she's a spy i like the idea of mixing the tweed which is the man's fabric with
34:52the shiny fabric that looks a little bit like leather but it's not a 40s cape the 40s cape goes
34:58vertical like that this cape goes like a magician's cape yeah or dracula stella the tailoring is just
35:07not happening here no the crotch is just every woman's nightmare on how a pant would fit it's
35:13like hello she's got she's got something missing if you know what i mean you have like edgy taste
35:21and i don't look at it and think it has any edge and i think that's what you're about as a designer
35:25leanne tell us about your look my look is very relaxed and a perfect disguise it's very slinky
35:38seductive i think it's very pretty dress and the ying and the yang the man's jacket with the woman sex
35:45it's that's always nice you really thought about something new and different both of the pieces are
35:51beautiful i think you did a very good job thank you the ruffles down the back are a surprise because
35:56you don't expect that when you see the dress from the front and that brings very pretty softness to
36:00it there's a lot of work in that there's a lot of good design yeah there's a lot of design in there thank
36:05you sweet i'm mad about camouflage so i found this fabric which reminded me of more of a modern
36:14camouflage and the dress is very sexy underneath um when she turns to the back it has a really
36:20beautiful scoop she has no hips at all and it's not a flattering skirt it's too much fabric at the hips
36:28why'd you put a slit yeah i could have lived without the slit in the back um i thought it would be sexy
36:32because i was trying to take that um entertainment side of it the sexy is that you have you have like
36:38the open back that's a bit too much i'd love the idea of a short jacket but the herringbone just
36:44completely throws me off you know if someone really was wearing that they would be just like
36:49did you get dressed in the dark i don't think it's that bad
36:54okay we've heard what you had to say we're going to have a little chat and then we call you back
36:59you can leave the runway thank you let's talk about the designers that we did like let's start with
37:14kenley kenley is the very simple dress it was very pretty dress well designed and she fought for it
37:22so i like that she handled the asian influence really beautifully one other piece with that it
37:31would have been the home run leanne i loved it i think it met the challenge i think the dress had a
37:39lot going on and it worked she found a way to take the different influences mix the whole thing together
37:46very ingrid bergman you know it has that kind of attitude you had quite a lot of good design there
37:55i like cut toast i love the fabric that she picked i mean all the pieces in the design
38:02was interesting when she took the jacket off look how great the neckline was beautiful great great
38:09okay let's move on to some of the designs we had some problems with suede i don't know that he
38:15really designed a dress that was really very interesting and then i just don't understand
38:20wearing that fast with that dress wasn't good enough that skirt was bad because that girl the
38:27model's this big yeah another one was joe shanghai joe a little bit too shanghai for my days it was a
