00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03I love the unconventional challenges
00:05because they give you an opportunity
00:06to work with materials
00:07you wouldn't work with otherwise.
00:09Do you guys have plastic tiaras?
00:10We are not making a piñata.
00:11We are making a dress.
00:12I can't seem to figure out
00:13how to make it into something that I like.
00:16How's it going?
00:17Are you gonna make it?
00:18I have no time left.
00:23To think that this is just a dress
00:25made of ribbon material from a party store,
00:27I think that's remarkable.
00:29To me, it's kind of a really strange mix going on.
00:33Andy, congratulations.
00:35You're the winner of this challenge.
00:41I'm sorry, Sarah. That means you're out.
00:50Ivy's just fainted.
00:51I'm just really scared for her.
00:55This is Project Runway.
00:57Yes! Let's go!
00:59The search for the next big fashion designer.
01:01I was born ready.
01:03You know you love this.
01:05You're either in...
01:06Or you're out.
01:07It's about fashion.
01:08Who will be the next great fashion designer?
01:10I'm the best there is.
01:1117 designers.
01:13This is my chance.
01:14Three finalists.
01:15But only one can be the winner.
01:17It's fashion week or go home.
01:19I've come way too far to lose.
01:21For these 17 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:25The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris to start their own line.
01:31A fashion spread in Mary Claire magazine.
01:33A $50,000 technology suite from HP and Intel to create their vision and run their business.
01:39And the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection on PiperLime.com.
01:43The model paired with the winner of Project Runway will receive a fashion spread in Mary Claire magazine.
01:47And $25,000 from L'Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional.
02:00Okay, she's conscious.
02:01She's in the hallway.
02:02Just try and breathe nice and easy.
02:04Almost immediately, Ivy passed out.
02:08Nice easy breaths.
02:10Ivy's just fainted.
02:11And I'm worried because I know they have to take her to the hospital.
02:15It just seems really serious to me.
02:17What are you feeling right now?
02:18Are you feeling a little better?
02:19Still feel a little dizzy?
02:21I'm worried if she's going to be okay, if she's going to go home.
02:32Ivy's getting really worried now.
02:34Ivy went to the workroom and was like, bam, the girl was on.
02:37And I think she just stopped taking care of herself.
02:40It was more important to get the dress done.
02:42Yeah, she was dressing so much.
02:43I don't think she ate a lot.
02:44At least we know she's in good care and she's at the hospital.
02:47And they're going to do their best to make sure that she'll be all right.
02:52I just got released from the hospital and the doctor gave me the okay that I can go back to work.
03:07The end result was just dehydration and I feel so embarrassed that it happened.
03:14If there's one lesson that I've learned is to definitely take care of the body.
03:19I am really looking forward to the next day and creating my vision that I got inspired by the hospital room.
03:26And you are the winner of the last challenge so you will have immunity and cannot be eliminated this week.
03:46I am really excited about this next challenge.
03:50And you are about to see why.
03:53Let's bring out your models.
03:55Oh my god.
03:56Oh my god.
03:57Oh my god.
03:58Oh my god.
03:59Oh my god.
04:00Oh my god.
04:01Oh my god.
04:02Oh my god.
04:03Oh my god.
04:04Oh my god.
04:05Isn't this amazing?
04:06Yes.
04:07Every hat one after the other is just as fabulous and breathtaking and a piece of art.
04:13And I think to myself, I am so happy to be here right now.
04:20I'm excited to introduce you to the artist himself.
04:23He designs for the most beautiful women in the world.
04:26From Sarah Jessica Parker to Lady Gaga.
04:29Phillip Tracy.
04:38Welcome.
04:40Hi.
04:41Phillip is an amazing hat designer.
04:43I don't even know if I would call him a designer as more of an artist.
04:47Designers.
04:48Your challenge is to create a look inspired by and worthy to be worn with one of these works of art.
04:54To have your dress being worn with one of his hats, that's like the holy grail, dude.
05:00That's big time.
05:01Phillip, do you have any advice for them?
05:03I think you have to think in terms of the volume and the proportion that will work with
05:09the overall silhouette of the person and matching his old hat.
05:13That is good advice.
05:15Andy, you won the last challenge, so you get to pick your hat first.
05:20You will also be working with the model that is wearing your hat.
05:23All of you will.
05:24I'm gonna stick with my Cassie.
05:27April.
05:28The first hat that I am drawn to is the one that Ify's wearing.
05:34I think that it's super cool, but Ify's a difficult model to work with.
05:39I'm gonna stay with Milana.
05:41Michael Drummond.
05:42I'm going to stick with my model, Johnna, and that's my favorite hat.
05:47Michael Costello.
05:48Blinka.
05:49Love you.
05:50Peach.
05:51My model, Ify, her attitude is awful, but she's a tall, lanky, thin girl.
06:02She's stunningly beautiful.
06:03I'm going to stick with Ify.
06:05Gretchen.
06:06I have a fetish with feathers, so I'm gonna stick with my model, Alessandra.
06:14Christopher.
06:15I'm staying with my rose.
06:17Mondo.
06:18Ian.
06:19I would love to work together again.
06:23Ivy.
06:24I would love to stick with Katerina.
06:27AJ.
06:28Every single time we seem to make it work, so I'm going to stick with you, Amare.
06:33Valerie.
06:34Valerie.
06:35I'm not crazy about her hat, because it's not really a hat, it's more of a mask, but
06:40I really want to stay loyal to my model.
06:43This mask hat seems pretty tricky, but my model and I seem to have a pretty good thing
06:48going, so I'm sticking with Tina Marie.
06:51Casanova.
06:52Well, I will stay with my Sarai.
06:56Kristen.
06:57Kristen, Kaven has left on the runway, and you will be working with her again in this
07:04beautiful hat.
07:05I love orchids, it's one of my favorite flowers, but damn, you know, it's so in your face.
07:11Okay.
07:12Phillip will be our guest judge.
07:14Good luck with this challenge, and I'll see you on the runway.
07:17Bye, everybody.
07:18Bye.
07:22Hello, everybody.
07:23Hi.
07:24How excited are you?
07:26Way, very excited.
07:28We have the hats in the designer lounge.
07:31There is a photograph of each of your hats on your HP TouchSmart notebook.
07:36Now, you have until 11 o'clock tonight, so your 15 minutes of sketching begins now, and
07:43then we're going to Mood, where we will have a budget of $150.
07:47Okay?
07:48Thank you, everyone.
07:50It's like 9-10 hours.
07:53The hat I was given reminded me of something you'd wear in the future to some kind of island.
07:59So I wanted to do a resort wear outfit that was complimentary of the hat, but still accented
08:06it.
08:07Back at home, I am inspired by my garden, but here, having a flower as a hat?
08:13Oh, goodness.
08:14This is going to be tough.
08:16This really is going to be a tough challenge.
08:18You like yours?
08:20For me, yours is the risky one.
08:22It is risky.
08:23All right, designers, let's head off to Mood.
08:26Follow me.
08:27So exciting.
08:28It is exciting.
08:29I'm so excited.
08:30Thrilling.
08:31It's Philip Tracy.
08:33Let's go.
08:39There's a million trillion fabrics to choose from.
08:43I think they all have voices, and I'm hearing them.
08:46All right, designers, time is up.
08:49147.
08:5055.
08:51147.
08:5255.
08:53Nice.
08:54All right, everyone, let's head back to the work room.
08:55Thank you, Mood.
08:56Thank you, Mood.
08:57Off we go.
08:58Oh, what happened here?
08:59I'm thinking seriously to quit.
09:00What happened?
09:01I'm not sure if I'm able to hear more stuff like before.
09:05Cassie, no, we don't say that.
09:06I believe in you.
09:07You can do it.
09:08The judges, they know that I saw very well.
09:09But maybe they believe that I don't have taste.
09:10And that's the thing that I have to do in the next year.
09:11I'm not sure if I'm able to hear more stuff like before.
09:12Cassie, no, we don't say that.
09:14I believe in you.
09:15You can do it.
09:16The judges, they know that I saw very well.
09:20But maybe they believe that I don't have taste.
09:21And that's the thing that I have to do in the next challenge to choke my taste.
09:34Coming up on Project Runway.
09:35Haven't we all seen the stress a hundred times before?
09:38Yes, you think?
09:39I'm not going to dissuade you to my taste.
09:42Am I looking at my own product?
09:45I'm not going to mess my own product.
09:48I'm not going to dissuade you from being concerned you should be. What am I doing? What the hell am I doing?
09:54What if I made something?
10:04Ten hours everybody.
10:06That's really not that much time.
10:08Ten hours.
10:10Our challenge is to design a garment worthy enough to be worn with one of Philip Tracy's hats.
10:15You are in awe just of the presence of his design.
10:21What do you think?
10:22That's your style.
10:23That's your style.
10:25It's not mine.
10:26I think Michael C is an insecure designer and I don't think he has his vision yet.
10:30His dress, it's a hot mess.
10:32I'm a few hours into my design right now.
10:36I'm telling myself that I love it when I really don't.
10:40Damn, I don't know what happened here.
10:42This is a big deal and my dress sucks at this point.
10:49How is everybody?
10:50Good.
10:51Good.
10:52Excellent.
10:53April.
10:54Hey.
10:55How are you?
10:56I'm good.
10:57Talk to me.
10:58What did that hat say to you?
10:59Well, I really liked it because it was kind of modern but still avant-garde.
11:03Mm-hmm.
11:04I wanted to do hot shorts and a jacket.
11:06For me, the cut of the short and the color of the short, it really says diaper.
11:16Especially it's quilted so there's a thickness to it.
11:20I mean, I'd tell you where I am if my butt was that small but it's not so.
11:25So how's Kristen?
11:26Oh, that's fine.
11:27Wait a minute.
11:28Hold on.
11:29Okay.
11:30You know, I have the orchid.
11:32Yeah, I know.
11:33It's stunning.
11:34It's stunning.
11:35This looks fussy.
11:36Yeah, it does.
11:37It just doesn't look modern.
11:38It gets on my nerves too.
11:39Yeah, that gets on my nerves too.
11:41So, I did want to add a little shrug to it but...
11:45Why?
11:46What if I made something out of that?
11:49Gone.
11:50All right.
11:51Thank you, Kristen.
11:52Okay, thanks, Tim.
11:53I feel awesome about my design.
11:56I have no concern until Tim come to my table and say,
12:01Haven't we all seen this dress a hundred times before?
12:06Yes, you think?
12:08And to me it says, Donna Karen, 1988.
12:14I cannot make any more mistake.
12:16I already did mistake enough.
12:19I'm not like a cat with seven life.
12:21Thank you, Casanova.
12:26So, Michael, how's it going?
12:29Not exactly as I hoped for.
12:31Talk to me.
12:32Well, I've never worked with this kind of fabric before and it created like a little puckering detail
12:37that's driving me insane.
12:38So, that's my big concern.
12:40It's...
12:41I mean, I'm not going to dissuade you from being concerned.
12:44You should be.
12:45That's what I thought.
12:46I feel so bad about this dress but...
12:50Change it up.
12:52You have to.
12:55Pack my bags.
12:56I'll just go home.
12:57I'll just go home.
12:58Coming up on Project Runway.
12:59Why would you send a diaper down the runway?
13:00I don't think he has any idea what is modern.
13:01He's afraid of it looking like a cardboard box.
13:02I think it's going to be Peach, Kristen, and April in the bottom.
13:06All right, designers, I'm leaving you for the evening.
13:10Some of you have some very important decisions to make.
13:11I trust that they will be made.
13:12And the winner of this challenge will have immunity and cannot be eliminated from the
13:19next challenge.
13:20All right?
13:21I will see you in the morning.
13:22Work hard.
13:23And get rest.
13:24I decided to take Tim's advice and I cut that sucker right off the mannequin.
13:37I start playing with some other fabrics and I'm not going to have any questions.
13:39All right, designers, I'm leaving you for the evening.
13:40Some of you have some very important decisions to make.
13:41I trust that they will be made.
13:43And the winner of this challenge will have immunity and cannot be eliminated from the next challenge.
13:47All right?
13:49I will see you in the morning.
13:50Work hard.
13:51And get rest.
13:52I started playing with some other fabrics,
13:54but I'm not feeling too confident at this point.
13:56Happy Father's Day.
13:58Thanks, Mom.
13:59We missed you a lot.
14:00Giovanni caught a fish.
14:02Oh, he did?
14:02Let me talk to him.
14:04No, I didn't really catch a fish.
14:06You didn't really catch a fish?
14:09Being able to talk to Giovanni really put me at ease,
14:13you know, because he's my boy.
14:14I love him to death.
14:15When will you be back?
14:17I don't know yet.
14:18I needed to hear from him.
14:20My mind was in a crazy place.
14:22Love you, baby.
14:24Bye.
14:28I think I'm on to something that's really beautiful
14:30and very sophisticated.
14:33Michael sees look.
14:34He seems like this goes over the top.
14:36His taste level is a little bit questionable at times.
14:44What I do is just tweak it a little bit.
14:46Like, that's totally the ticket right there.
14:49Yeah, I like this.
14:50Don't get the press because we're not winning.
14:52No, because we are.
14:53Because we're doing really well.
14:55I don't know what she's thinking.
14:56All the judges are going to be like,
14:58why would you send a diaper down the runway?
15:00It's really feminine.
15:01Let me look at you next to it.
15:04Yes.
15:04Yes.
15:05I like my garment.
15:06I like the way it flows.
15:08And I like that it's romantic.
15:10You know, I'm feeling good about it.
15:12Did you guys get a chance to look at anybody's work?
15:21No, I didn't.
15:22Can we trash talk for a little bit?
15:23You know, I liked Casanova's at first.
15:25I don't know if I like it now.
15:26I don't think he has any idea what is modern and fresh.
15:30Michael Drummond with that cardboard.
15:33I actually like it.
15:35But I don't know what he's going to do with it, though.
15:36Like, it fits well, but he's afraid of it
15:38looking like a cardboard box.
15:41Well, the fabric looks like a cardboard box.
15:47So who do you guys think it's going to hug about?
15:49I think it's going to be Peach, Kristen, and April
15:51in the bottom.
15:52I am nervous about tomorrow.
15:54Why?
15:55Yeah, because I have a nice little dress,
15:56but it's a nice little dress.
15:58Yeah, but how does it look with the head?
16:00You know, I don't know.
16:01I don't know.
16:02Heidi likes short and tight and shiny.
16:04Whatever, you know?
16:06Because, like, you know what, I only care.
16:07I care more about what Phillip thinks.
16:10You know, but I don't want Heidi to be like, well,
16:11it's not short and tight and shiny.
16:13You know, I don't want, you know.
16:14See?
16:15But I don't know.
16:16That just made me nervous.
16:17I was almost like, I wish you didn't tell me that.
16:21Coming up on Project One Way.
16:23I see some worried looks around here.
16:24Stop doing this machine.
16:27Ugh.
16:28It may take a stick of butter.
16:29Oh, oh.
16:30But I'm going to get this girl in this dress.
16:32Coming.
16:34Ivy.
16:36Uh, what the look?
16:37Oh, sorry.
16:49I'm afraid for April, because her garment really, really
16:53does look like a diaper.
16:56Who do you think is going to be in the top?
16:58I think I could be in the top, too.
17:00I just want to critique.
17:01I've just been in the middle.
17:03And I'm tired of not at least getting feedback,
17:05whether it's positive or negative.
17:06Ready to go.
17:14Good morning.
17:15It's runaway day, but I still have the back of the jacket
17:20to drape.
17:20I still have the zipper for the skirt, the hem of the skirt.
17:24It's kind of a lot, but I know I can execute things
17:26beautifully and quickly.
17:30Hemming the skirt, for me, it just is what scares me the most,
17:33because hemming a skirt could take a long time.
17:35So yeah, I'm a little nervous.
17:36Why are you going so fast?
17:38Stop doing this machine.
17:39Ah, bad machine.
17:42Good morning, everybody.
17:44Good morning.
17:45It's a big, big day.
17:47It's your Philip Tracy day.
17:48Sure it is.
17:49So you have two hours to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris
17:52makeup room in the Garnier hair salon.
17:54Remember, with the Piper Lime accessory wall,
17:56this is about your design and Philip Tracy's hats,
18:00so be very thoughtful about how you use it.
18:02Right.
18:03I see some worried looks around here.
18:05Everyone all right?
18:06Everyone all right?
18:06Okay, I'm sending in your models.
18:13I think if there's enough time,
18:15I'm going to try to make it a different skirt.
18:16Okay.
18:17Let's go.
18:17Hurry.
18:18Hi.
18:19Hi.
18:20Superstar.
18:21I've got this crazy hat, and I love it.
18:24So I just want it to be, I think like finger,
18:28a little messy.
18:28A little texture.
18:29Fantastic.
18:30Okay.
18:31Love to add this mustache on her with liquid eyeliner
18:35or something.
18:36Uh-huh.
18:36Because she's doing menswear today.
18:38Okay.
18:39Ready?
18:40Have a seat over here, handsome.
18:42Right?
18:48I wanted to make sure that I did a dress that really
18:50complemented that hat, and hopefully the judges will be
18:52impressed with that in such little time.
18:56I do not expect Michael C. in the top.
19:00The dress that he made, every girl from Puerto Rico
19:03have the same dress in the closet.
19:06The concept for my dress is to really make certain that the
19:10dress and the orchid as a unit convey romance and love.
19:14I'm happy with mine.
19:15I totally love it.
19:16I really like the styling.
19:17Me too.
19:18Really, really.
19:19I've gotten so many compliments on it.
19:20So many people have said, like, Christopher, I think that
19:22you have a chance at this one.
19:24I hope you win.
19:25I hope you win when I win.
19:27Yeah.
19:30I think it's nice that Philip Tracy is there because he is so
19:33avant-garde and creative, and it's exciting to see what his
19:36opinion is.
19:37Who made this?
19:38Andy.
19:39Andy.
19:40It's clever to pick up the shimmer rather than the color.
19:43Who made this?
19:44Casanova.
19:45OK.
19:46Why on earth have you got a mustache?
19:51I'm a little worried about this thing, but it's OK.
19:58All right, designers and models, let's go down to the runway
20:01right now.
20:02Follow me, please.
20:04Peach.
20:04Coming.
20:06Ivy.
20:09Oh, sorry.
20:13That's it.
20:14That's what the left.
20:18That was a burst.
20:19Coming up on Project Runway.
20:27I think it looks like you didn't have a plan with this dress.
20:29I have to say, I didn't respond well to it.
20:32Can I sit the back?
20:33Oh, no.
20:44I have scenes from the features.
20:46Done?
20:47How I do?
20:49I've been kissed by the girls on theieren.
20:56Hello.
20:56Hi.
20:56Hi.
20:58Welcome to The Runway.
20:59as you know in fashion one day you're in and the next day you're out there are 13 of you here and
21:09after tonight there will be 12 your challenge was to create a look inspired by and worthy
21:15to be worn with one of Philip Tracy's amazing hats I'm a longtime fan of his work and today
21:22I'm also wearing one of his masterpieces okay let's meet the judges first we have top designer
21:29Michael course hey guys fashion director for Mary Claire magazine Nina Garcia hi everyone and we're
21:36very excited to have famous head designer Philip Tracy we will score your designs as they come down
21:43the runway one of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out okay let's start the show
21:52I'm thinking oh Lord damn they look good and I think the combination between my dress and
22:11Philip Tracy's hat is absolutely stunning
22:22I really like my outfit a lot I definitely wear it I pushed my bounds of what I am comfortable with
22:29and I feel like I interpreted my hat in a manner that was true to my aesthetic and not just the hats
22:35I love the way my garment looks on the runway because I love the way it flows and I love the way that
22:55it's harmonious with the hat with the orchid she looks fabulous it looks amazing she looks like
23:05the Sun I love her I can't even handle it
23:07I see Tina Marie come down the runway and I really love it I think it looks very clean very polished it's got a little
23:23tinge of drama and a little tinge of sexiness and flirtiness and I think it encompasses a lot of different
23:28things in one garment it's very me I couldn't be happier
23:42going down the runway I feel really good about how my dress looks I think that it looks fantastic
23:47totally different than what I normally do but still completely me and I feel good about this one
23:53watching Cassie come down the runway I just feel like she just looks so expensive I'm hoping the
24:10judges notice that and that they really are affected by it because it's a strong look I think I nailed it
24:23I am so impressed with myself with the way that the outfit turned out that I can't help but get a
24:30little emotional and Katerina looks so gorgeous in it and it looks like it was made for her
24:34as I'm watching my whole look go down the runway it really does look like she's going to this futuristic resort
24:48I'm happy with it and I don't regret anything
24:55I love it it looks so elegant and I think so chic and I think it worked so well with that
25:15I think Efi walked the daylights out of that hat and that dress she did such a great job and I think I can handle her now
25:33when I saw my model on the runway I just think Casanova you will be safe whatever don't I got in 1980s you will be safe
25:54I work so hard on completing a look and finishing it to my liking that you know when I see it walking
26:14down the runway I don't change anything in my head it's exactly what I dreamt
26:20good job you're amazing I don't know what planet you you came from
26:37if I call your name please step forward April
26:40Michael Drummond Christopher Michael Castello please step forward Valerie Kristen if I have not called your name
26:59congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge you can leave the runway
27:05let's bring out your models
27:16Michael Drummond tell us about your look
27:33I was easily inspired by by your art so I was also inspired by architects this reminded me of a warrior and it also reminded me of a farmer a bit and I don't mean that in a bad way warrior and a a farmer okay yeah because the this I remember this sort of was to protect you from the sun I kind of was inspired by the sun I used a gold belt to sort of reflect the idea of the sun and light
28:00you're so I think you can also see what I have not become
28:03I think you did a great job I love you've done something that's crazy your hair and the sun
28:04you've done a great job I love the shoulders I love that you made the material that you made
28:06you made the model look fantastic and I think you really looked at the shape of the hat
28:10and you've got the hair on the back you've got the shape of the hat you've got a maior
28:14architecture and you've managed to make an architectural outfit I really do think that works
28:18it works very well together and the other thing that I found very interesting was the open back even from the back it's just Toby
28:22The open back, even from the back, it's just very dramatic,
28:28and it complements the hat beautifully.
28:31Kristen.
28:32I just looked at the lines of the orchid.
28:35I decided to make the dress more architectural,
28:38so I just picked a nice solid black,
28:40but just had, you know, the pop of color underneath.
28:43So that's the story, really.
28:45An orchid is this incredibly beautiful and sexy flower.
28:52I look at what happened to the dress,
28:55and I see no correlation between the two,
28:58other than the fact that we have pink accents.
29:01I think the black satin's definitely not working in your favor.
29:05Can I see the back of the dress?
29:06It just hangs around.
29:08Yeah, there's no harmony to the dress.
29:11Here you have a girl with an amazing body,
29:12and I don't know what it's doing for her body at all.
29:15I think it looks like you didn't have a plan with this dress.
29:18And the other thing is the matchy toenails and the flower shoe.
29:22I don't know why you would go so matchy-matchy and literal with this.
29:27I think it probably would have needed something more fragile.
29:35Kristen, you've been very quiet through all of this.
29:37I do disagree.
29:39I definitely did have a concept.
29:41I didn't want it to be, like, this tight and just where you see the waist.
29:45I wanted it to flow, and that was my intention.
29:48It's not architectural, and it's not fluid either.
29:53Okay.
29:55Christopher.
29:56I absolutely loved, loved my hat.
29:59I didn't use any other hard angles because I felt like there were so many points here,
30:03so I wanted it to continuously flow.
30:05I was greatly inspired by the feeling of, like, Parisian fashion,
30:08of a delicate woman, but also a powerful woman.
30:12I have to say, I didn't respond well to it.
30:16It's too dark.
30:17I would have liked to have seen some color in there,
30:19something to make it a little happier.
30:20It seems sad to me.
30:23Okay.
30:23When I look at you trying to kind of edge her up with that black belt,
30:30with the black boot, and with that gray satin legging,
30:34which is, I mean, even a model can't wear that legging.
30:37It kind of loses the whole idea of the hat.
30:42And then she has this coat made out of drapes.
30:46There's no romance here to me.
30:48Right.
30:50Michael.
30:50When I look at the hat, it has a hardness to it,
30:54but also it has a playfulness to it when you look at the stem here.
30:57I noticed that this movement was transitioned into my dress,
31:02and the fabrics to me were just so beautiful,
31:04and I thought that they just picked up the beautiful tones in the hat.
31:08I fell in love with it.
31:09I think it's just a fun little dress.
31:11This is what Harmony looks like.
31:13It's not matchy-matchy.
31:15I love the idea that she's kind of, you know,
31:18goddess of the sea without being a costume.
31:22I knew right then and there I put it on the dress form,
31:24and it just had this flow to it that was just so inspiring,
31:28and I was like,
31:28this works with my hat.
31:31The color of the hat and the color of the dress are perfect.
31:36I love that you picked a nude shoe almost to, you know,
31:41make it disappear.
31:42It's really not about anything but, you know, but that.
31:45The dress and the hat.
31:47And I think it was really clever of you
31:49to use the iridescence of the hat as the coloring,
31:52and I think you've done an exceptional job with this.
31:57April, tell us about your look.
31:59My sole inspiration was the hat.
32:01I liked how it had a very kind of futuristic,
32:04beach, whimsical look to it.
32:06So I played with the lines
32:08by doing different textures of black
32:10and then just a pop of pink
32:12to kind of bring it together.
32:14First off, I think it's very literal.
32:17When I look at this kind of triple panty,
32:20I mean, and the panty is ill-fitting.
32:22I guess if you're going for a three-day weekend,
32:24it looks like you layered your underpants for the weekend,
32:26and each day you kind of unpeeled
32:29and you had a new panty.
32:30Can I sit at the back?
32:33Oh.
32:34No.
32:35I don't want to know why her panty
32:37has a big black zipper in the back.
32:39This kind of hat,
32:41you could have gone a lot further
32:43and made a fantastic volume,
32:46but also the whole outfit,
32:47it's just a little bit weak.
32:50Okay.
32:52Valerie, tell us about your look.
32:53I didn't want it to be too literal,
32:56nor did I want it to be too costumey,
32:57so I chose to use this Scoop neckline here.
33:00And in the jacket,
33:01I wanted to show a little bit of mix of hard and soft.
33:06When she takes the jacket off,
33:07I feel like it's a very modern take
33:09on the Scoop Edwardian-style reference,
33:12especially with the back.
33:13You know, the racer back is very clean,
33:15it's very sexy,
33:16and then the zipper is just very consistent with the mask.
33:20I think it's beautiful.
33:22It's actually one of my favorites
33:23because it is soft,
33:25but still hard and sexy at the same time.
33:28I do love the white little jacket.
33:30I like that it has a zipper in the back.
33:32It looks really well-made.
33:33I like the idea that you have
33:36this kind of handkerchief Stevie Nicks kind of hem,
33:40but it's actually very geometric and neat.
33:42Right, they're all squares.
33:44There's something very mischievous and coquettish
33:47about the mask
33:48that translates into the spirit of your dress.
33:53Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
33:55We're going to have a little chat,
33:58and then we bring you back out.
33:59You can leave the runway.
34:00Let's talk about the designers
34:10that we didn't like so much.
34:13Let's talk about Christopher.
34:15There was no sense of fragility
34:17to what he did at all.
34:19In fact, she looked very heavy in lead.
34:21I really think that Christopher thought
34:23that this look was really edgy.
34:25It looked dated.
34:27It looked stiff.
34:28It was overly designed and bad taste.
34:32Also, the girl is possibly the most beautiful,
34:35stunning girl,
34:37and it made her less beautiful.
34:42Okay, let's talk about Kristen.
34:44The design itself, the color,
34:47and then the actual fabric and how to execute it,
34:49it never came together at all.
34:51It looks like she had no plan.
34:52The hat looks summery.
34:55It looks happy.
34:56And the fabric does not look happy,
34:57and just because it has strong pink in it
34:59doesn't make it happier.
35:01This was not joyous.
35:04Okay, let's talk about April.
35:06She's got the triple panty problem,
35:08which I think the idea is ridiculous, quite frankly.
35:11But the jacket I didn't think was that bad.
35:13Potentially, if it was all made perfectly,
35:17potentially, it's fine.
35:19But it is their moment to shine rather than blend.
35:25Okay, let's talk about the designs that we did like.
35:29Michael C.
35:30There's something very effortless about Michael C.'s design.
35:34I mean, you know, the colors,
35:35the pulling in that shimmer from the hat,
35:38the color of her hair, lipstick.
35:41Just, it's really perfect.
35:43I think so, too.
35:45I think Michael C. really managed
35:47to pull the whole thing together without it matching.
35:52I think in mood, in texture, in color.
35:56That is the most cohesive.
35:58Yes.
35:58You know, I mean, it all kind of converged and worked.
36:01We also liked Valerie's dress.
36:06I like the bolero.
36:07I think it gave it a little pop of happiness
36:10because it is quite severe.
36:13It's flirty, but it's still a little hard and cool
36:16on the top with the white.
36:17You know, I actually like the fact that it looked polished.
36:20It looked well-made.
36:21It looked well-tailored.
36:22It was well-made and it was well-constructed.
36:26Let's talk about Michael Drummond.
36:27I really love the top.
36:29There's something very simple but complicated,
36:33the color of that skirt.
36:35It's lovely.
36:36It's different.
36:37It has an originality that I haven't seen everywhere
36:41and how he used the materials
36:43and made the fabrications in a day.
36:46It's impressive.
36:48He definitely played with a lot of different volumes
36:51and with different textures.
36:53He's obviously talented.
36:59So we've made our decision?
37:03Yeah.
37:04Okay, let's bring them back out.
37:05The six of you had the highest and the lowest scores.
37:18One of you will be named the winner
37:20and one of you will be out.
37:22Valerie, you're in.
37:39You can leave the runway.
37:41Thank you very much.
37:42Michael Castello.
37:50You picked the perfect silhouette and material,
37:53which made the dress look impeccable and effortless.
37:58Michael Drummond, your look was gorgeous.
38:01It was sophisticated, sharp and architectural.
38:06Michael Castello.
38:07Congratulations.
38:11You are the winner of this challenge.
38:13Really?
38:16Thank you so much.
38:19You will also have immunity for the next challenge.
38:21You can leave the runway.
38:26I cried and I could cry right now.
38:29I'm so...
38:30You have no idea.
38:32I felt like I won the whole season.
38:34Who's that?
38:35It's Mikey.
38:36Ty.
38:36Is it you?
38:37I won.
38:39Yay!
38:41I almost cried.
38:42I was so excited.
38:43What the...
38:44Oh my God, I said it.
38:47What a feeling.
38:48Really?
38:49Michael C. on the top and winning
38:51and me and Gretchen not even being on there?
38:54Seriously.
38:55Seriously.
38:56Michael Drummond, you're in.
38:58You can leave the runway.
39:01Have a nice day.
39:01Christopher, you're in.
39:11You can leave the runway.
39:17Kristen.
39:21April, one of you will be out.
39:23Kristen, you had one of the most fantastic hats to work with.
39:32And your mostly black dress was disappointing.
39:38It was not complimentary to the joyful spirit of the hat.
39:41Also, the fit was unflattering.
39:46April, you look confused as...
39:48The triple panty was completely unflattering
39:52and too matchy-matchy to your hat.
39:56You had a wow hat to work with.
39:58And you gave us a blah outfit.
40:04Kristen.
40:08I'm sorry you're out.
40:15April.
40:16That means you're in.
40:17You can leave the runway.
40:25Auf Wiedersehen.
40:26All the best to you.
40:28Thank you so much.
40:34I'm sad that I have to leave,
40:36but I'm so happy to really get back to the real world.
40:39Yeah, I'm relieved.
40:40I'm relieved.
40:41I'm relieved that it was my time to go.
40:47Hi, Tim.
40:48Tim.
40:49How are you doing?
40:50Hi, Tim.
40:50Thank you, Tim.
40:51Oh, Tim.
40:52So, I'm at the center of the work room.
40:56Yes.
40:57Clean up your space.
40:58Yes.
40:58Okay.
40:59Bye, Kristen.
41:00Bye, Kristen.
41:01Bye.
41:01Bye, honey.
41:04This was a great experience,
41:05and I'm really happy that I got to be on here.
41:08And I'm very confident in my own abilities.
41:10You know, it's not the end for me.
41:12I mean, this is just the beginning.
41:13Next time on Project Runway,
41:18for this challenge,
41:18you will be working in two teams of six.
41:22All those egos over there
41:23are just going to be button heads.
41:24This is going to be gathered?
41:26Come on, man.
41:27I'm tired.
41:30Tell us what you want to do,
41:31and then we'll figure out how it all works.
41:32No, that's not how a team challenge works.
41:34It has no design.
41:36The colors are ghastly.
41:39Who is the weakest designer in your group?
41:41Someone's going down.
41:43That's the truth.
42:11I love you.
42:26I love you.
