00:01Previously on Project Runway...
00:03Your challenge is to create resort wear.
00:05Designers, I'm putting you into teams of two.
00:08You are executing each other's design work.
00:14I'm looking forward to make simple blouse.
00:18I can just feel her crazy energy.
00:20If we can just finish.
00:22You keep going back to colors that no one likes.
00:24Move on.
00:25Why can't the judges see value in what I do?
00:30The whole outfit has no personality.
00:33It's a yawn.
00:34When I found out that I was working with Michael,
00:36I had to edit down a lot.
00:38Is that not throwing him under the butt?
00:40April, congratulations.
00:42You are the winner of this challenge.
00:44Wow, thank you so much.
00:46Casanova, you're designed with your grandmother in mind.
00:49I'm sorry, that means you're out.
00:52This is Project Runway.
00:54The winner of Project Runway will receive $100,000 from L'Oreal Paris
00:58to start their own line.
01:00A fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine.
01:02$50,000 technology suite from HP and Intel
01:05to create their vision and run their business.
01:07And the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection
01:10on PiperLime.com.
01:11The model paired with the winner of Project Runway
01:13will receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine
01:16and $25,000 from L'Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Professional.
01:19Do you feel like it's kind of quieter here today?
01:32Yeah, it is quieter.
01:34Casanova's no longer with us, duh.
01:37I was sad.
01:38The workbook's gonna be kind of boring without him here.
01:42Mm-hmm.
01:43I got called out on the runway yesterday by Heidi for...
01:48Michael, I saw you roll your eyes ten times while Ivy was speaking.
01:52Working with her on a previous challenge, I was terrified.
01:55But...
01:56Then you shouldn't roll your eyes.
01:58I was like...
01:59Didn't know what to say.
02:02How you feeling, Ivy?
02:05It's done.
02:06Yesterday was yesterday.
02:07You were so blessed, eh?
02:08You were like...
02:09Yeah, it was bad colors.
02:10Meh.
02:11Yeah, it was a poor design.
02:12Meh.
02:14I think I'm a very strong woman.
02:16And there's been times where people have told me
02:18that I'm not good enough, I'll never make it.
02:20And if I listened to those idiots, I wouldn't be here today.
02:23Let's go.
02:24Let's do it.
02:25Time.
02:26It busy.
02:32Hello.
02:33Hi.
02:34For this challenge, you will be looking to the past to secure your future.
02:47Tim, we'll fill you in on all of the details.
02:51When Heidi tells us that we're stepping back in time,
02:54I feel like it really could be anything.
02:57You never know on this show what's gonna happen.
02:59All I know is I don't want to be forced into making a corset.
03:15Good morning, designers.
03:16I am honored to be standing in front of photographs of Jacqueline Kennedy,
03:20one of the world's leading fashion icons.
03:23Ever since she became first lady in 1961, she has personified quality, taste, style, sophistication, and elegance.
03:30She is how the world perceives classic American sportswear.
03:34For this challenge, you will design a look that personifies your own contribution to American sportswear.
03:41Remember, your point of view as a designer.
03:44You will have 30 minutes to sketch and use Jacqueline Kennedy as your inspiration.
03:49Then we're going shopping at Mood where you'll have a budget of $150.
03:52And you have until midnight tonight.
03:55And your sketching time begins now.
03:58Have fun.
03:59Using Jacqueline Kennedy as an inspiration at first I thought was kind of a hindrance because I relate her so much to American fashion.
04:10And my aesthetic plays a lot with Asian ideas of aesthetic.
04:14And so I thought that it wasn't going to really mix well.
04:17But Jacqueline Kennedy was a fashion risk taker without even knowing it.
04:22And so it's going to be a statement piece.
04:24So designers, your sketching time is up.
04:26And we're heading off to Mood.
04:29Let's go.
04:32Alright designers, think.
04:33Quality, taste, style, sophistication, elegance, expensive.
04:37Your time starts now.
04:44Once I get to Mood, I let the fabric speak to me.
04:47I just kind of run up and down the aisles like a crazy man.
04:49Yeah, those bolts of fabric have voices and they say come over and pick me up.
04:53And I usually do.
04:54Ah!
04:55I'm lost right now.
04:57I don't really have a clear vision of what I want to create.
05:00Fortunately, I do have a color palette in mind.
05:03I'm thinking either white and black or white and navy.
05:06Designers, one minute remains.
05:08I'm like, what if I screwed up?
05:10But we can't think about that.
05:12I think I did a fabulous job.
05:13You did a great job.
05:14Alright designers, let's head back to the work room and get to work.
05:17Alright.
05:18Thank you Mood.
05:19Thank you Mood.
05:20Thank you Mood.
05:29What were you thinking of doing this like a panel?
05:31Order.
05:32Order.
05:33I'm a little concerned about Mondo's look.
05:37It's very Mondo, but I feel like because of the materials he used, he might be not hitting the nail on the head with this one.
05:48I can't go back to Mood, so I have to make this work, so I think I'm going to switch and do a skirt and a top.
05:55This could either be really good or really bad.
06:01Michael, your look was sewn well and expensive.
06:05You may leave the runway.
06:08For this challenge, I decided to channel the earliest Americans.
06:14The Puritan.
06:16I'm making a skirt out of wool crepe, but it's sort of reminiscent of a 50 circle skirt, but it's got cartridge pleading, which is kind of like the crucible.
06:23So I'm not really sure what's going on, but I really kind of don't care at this point because I think I'm losing my mind.
06:28There's just such a small group of designers now that if you even F up one time, you're going home.
06:40Coming up on Project Runway.
06:41What happens with this?
06:42I was wanting to maybe soften it.
06:44It looks like my grandmother's clothes.
06:46I'm the old fart, I admit it, but I find it to be pretty vulgar.
06:49Really?
06:50Yeah.
06:58I don't think that some of the other contestants really know what sportswear is.
07:03To me, Michael C's look looks very cocktail, and I would have to say the same thing for Christopher's.
07:08How's it going, Michael?
07:10I don't know yet.
07:11I might make another dress.
07:13I'm not really feeling my blue backless dress right now.
07:16That looks too flight attendant stewardess, doesn't it?
07:19Kind of.
07:20So these are my pants.
07:23Looks like I could fit in one leg, and my model could probably fit in the same leg.
07:27Have you seen what Andy's working on?
07:29Andy?
07:30No, not really.
07:31Kind of like the pants that he wears a lot, but in shorts.
07:36No.
07:37No, I think that looks cute.
07:39A fashion-forward person takes risks, and so I'm pushing fashion a little more forward.
07:44Kind of hoping it keeps going with it.
07:46Just keep going.
07:47Yeah, just keep going, Andy.
07:51Hi, everyone.
07:52I'm here to check in with you.
07:53Good.
07:54How's Valerie?
07:55Valerie is doing good.
07:56What I'm doing is a very slim black pant.
08:00It's almost like a legging, but not a legging.
08:02What's the fit like through the hips and thighs?
08:05Oh, it's fit in.
08:06I'm the old fart, I admit it, but I find it to be pretty vulgar.
08:09Really?
08:10Yeah.
08:11You've got to be careful what happens here and what happens back here.
08:13Right.
08:14So it's like a very beautifully draped cargo pant.
08:16Right.
08:17It's you.
08:18It's me, exactly.
08:19Hi, Michael.
08:20Hi, Tim.
08:21What's the skirt?
08:22So right now it's really kind of heavy?
08:25Yes, it is.
08:26Michael Drummond's skirt is a little crucible right now.
08:29All she needs is a bonnet on her head.
08:31I mean, the more that I look at this, it's Annie Oakley.
08:36It's Annie Get Your Gun.
08:38People recycle old in fashion all the time.
08:43Sometimes things that haven't been seen for ages and ages and ages can look extremely modern.
08:48I mean, I don't want her to look like she's also got a ruler and she beats children.
08:51Do you know what I'm saying?
08:52Like, it could go there.
08:54That could be the other side of it.
08:56Good stuff.
09:00Thank you, Tim.
09:01Here they are.
09:03I love this fabric.
09:07First lady fabric.
09:09Right.
09:10First lady.
09:11First training.
09:12Jackie Kennedy, she wouldn't wear that.
09:17I don't care what time period it is.
09:20And the fit was, like, going up her ass.
09:23It was just, like, saggy saddlebags.
09:29We are done.
09:30Bye, Jackie.
09:31Goodbye.
09:33I think so.
09:38I think we're all in the clear for sure.
09:39I think so.
09:40Yeah.
09:41I have a concern for Andy.
09:42Yeah.
09:43I don't think that look is Jackie O or anyone, really.
09:46She's more like Jackie Yo than Jackie O.
09:50I think when the judges see those pants, they're going to think, if Jackie Kennedy was alive today, she would probably wear pants like this.
10:00Because she was a risk taker.
10:01I think she would.
10:02I just hope they don't, I hope they get it.
10:04One by one.
10:05Two by two.
10:06Excuse me.
10:07Mondo.
10:08Mondo.
10:09Mondo.
10:10Oh, I like this so much better after a couple of hours of sleep.
10:11Oh.
10:12Oh.
10:13Good morning, designers.
10:14Hi, Tim.
10:15I have an announcement to make.
10:16Of course you do.
10:17Today is not a runway day.
10:18Oh, what?
10:19It is not a runway day.
10:20Oh, what?
10:21Oh.
10:22Oh.
10:23Oh.
10:24Good morning, designers.
10:25Hi, Tim.
10:26I have an announcement to make.
10:28Of course you do.
10:29Today is not a runway day.
10:31Oh, what?
10:32It is not a runway day.
10:34What day is it?
10:38Coming up on Project Runway.
10:40He has no conviction or vision.
10:42He gads.
10:43If they're going to send me home, they're going to send me home with something that I believe in.
10:47Jackie Kennedy would not have camel-toe.
10:49Right.
10:50Today is not a runway jag.
10:54What?
10:55It is not a runway jag.
10:58I'm so happy about this little twist.
11:00You have no idea.
11:01Whenever Tim Gunn says there's a twist,
11:03I want to smack him in the head.
11:05You will be creating an additional item
11:09to go with this look.
11:12And that item is outerwear.
11:16If the garment we made is similar to a jacket already,
11:19can we make that our outerwear and make something underneath?
11:22I feel like this is already a jacket
11:23and anything over this would be really bulky.
11:25I don't disagree with you.
11:27And I was surprised to see that you created a jacket.
11:32You will have 15 minutes to sketch.
11:34Then we're going shopping at Mood,
11:36where you'll have 15 minutes to shop
11:38with a budget of $150.
11:40Wow.
11:41This is going to help our outfit.
11:43I agree.
11:44I like the idea of a complete full look
11:46for my Jackie Kennedy of 2010.
11:48We are in 2010, right?
11:50Thank you, everyone.
11:51I'll be back.
11:54I'm really stumped.
12:00I'm deciding to do a vest.
12:03It's very modern.
12:04It's very classic.
12:05And it's very versatile.
12:07I'll be hoping for a win.
12:09Trust your gut, girl.
12:11I'm following my butt, not my gut.
12:13Hey, girl.
12:14Does that mean you're making her a fanny pack?
12:15Girl, just wait.
12:16You're a little broken.
12:18All right, everyone.
12:19Let's head off to Mood.
12:20Yay!
12:21Follow me, please.
12:23I'm looking for a really soft, stretch-type wool, and this fabric is sticking out, and I
12:36want that fabric.
12:38That I'm grabbing out.
12:40Hmm?
12:41I'm gonna take some of that.
12:43Huh.
12:47I could have been a bitch about it and take the fabric anyway, but I rise above that kind
12:51of stuff.
12:52Did I get five yards?
12:53Yeah.
12:56For my shrug, I'd love to use something that resembles fur.
12:59It was like breeze through the faux furs, and they all look so tacky and cheap.
13:03So I went straight immediately just down to the leathers.
13:05This is the first time I've ever picked up animal fur.
13:09I feel a little bit bad.
13:11All right, everyone.
13:12Time is up.
13:13Thank you very much, guys.
13:14Let's go back to Parsons.
13:15Thank you, Mood.
13:16I wonder if this is a boy animal or a girl animal.
13:24The fur is really long and kind of nappy, so I'm gonna basically give the hide a shave.
13:29It looks really pretty.
13:30That takes it up, like, so much.
13:31Totally.
13:33I wonder if I kind of feel like Harry Potter in this coat.
13:36You are Harry Potter.
13:37Yeah, I'm thinking I might recut this coat all over again.
13:43I turned out that beige jacket.
13:45But it looks like a damn terrycloth towel.
13:48Now I gotta make another look.
13:50Every single challenge, he creates multiple things.
13:54He has to wait until Tim Gunn comes in and tells him what to do.
13:58And then everything changes.
14:00He has no conviction or vision for these challenges.
14:08How is everyone?
14:09Hi.
14:10Why is it quiet in here?
14:11Pensive.
14:12It is pensive.
14:13Michael.
14:14Hi, Tim.
14:15I want to hear about the outerwear.
14:17Okay.
14:18But I also want to hear about the skirt again.
14:20I had it on my model yesterday and it looked really good.
14:22It did?
14:23Yes.
14:24The skirt?
14:25Yes.
14:26There are several gauges of Tim Gunn.
14:28There's this one, and this one, and this one.
14:31And he's giving me this one.
14:33Do you feel strong enough to stand up on that runway for it?
14:35I want to fix it a little bit, but I really like it.
14:38Hi, Andy.
14:39Hi, Tim.
14:40How is this whole crotch area?
14:42Because you don't want that pulling.
14:43Yeah, earlier it was doing this like, it was giving her like an arrow there.
14:46Jackie Kennedy would not have camel toe.
14:48Right.
14:49Michael.
14:50Hi, Tim.
14:51What's that?
14:52Well, I made three jackets today.
14:56You made three jackets?
14:57Yeah, and about three other dresses too.
14:59I found this fabric today at Mood, and it looked so much better there until I got it here.
15:04I kind of, I kind of like it better in the denim.
15:07Well, it's prettier than this, but what wouldn't be?
15:10Put this stuff under the table.
15:12That's where the rest of it is.
15:13He gabs.
15:14All right, everyone.
15:15I am going to leave you for the night.
15:18Make it work, everybody.
15:21A little piece of my soul is dying every second.
15:23Mine too.
15:24I'm not finished yet.
15:25I have to put the facing on my shrug, which is, again, more handwork.
15:28My fingers are going to fall off.
15:31Oh, my God.
15:35Coming up on Project Runway.
15:36Someone's got me real nervous.
15:38Michael, in two minutes, we're going down to the runway.
15:41Damn it.
15:42This can't be happening.
15:44I don't want to be sent home over a damn zipper.
15:53Runway day.
15:54Are you nervous?
15:55Not really.
15:56No.
15:57No.
15:58This morning, I'm confident.
15:59I'm going to stand by my look no matter what.
16:01I really, really love the concept and the idea behind it.
16:05I'm concerned for Andy.
16:07I just feel like he didn't pay attention to the challenge at all.
16:10Mm-mm.
16:11He designed for himself.
16:12He just made whatever he wanted to make.
16:14I just don't want to go home.
16:15That's all I'm asking.
16:16Just don't send me home, okay?
16:18I don't think you're going home, Michael Drummond.
16:20I don't know.
16:21Tim Gunn's got me real nervous.
16:22Michael Drummond is probably the most artistic designer in this competition.
16:28I mean, he definitely has his own point of view and, you know, I praise him for that.
16:33Mondo, you look fabulous today.
16:35I really do.
16:36I love your outfit.
16:37It was inspired by the Cotton Club.
16:38Let me see.
16:39Stand up.
16:40It's so cute.
16:41Did you make that shirt?
16:42Yes.
16:43Love it.
16:44No.
16:45Come on.
16:46I'll give you a dollar.
16:47All right.
16:48I love.
16:59Never put on snaps so fast in my life.
17:01The issue with my design is really just going to be getting the perfect fit on Rose,
17:06my model.
17:07The judges are really critical about the proportions.
17:09So as long as I can get that, I think I should be in good shape.
17:13All right.
17:14You have two hours to send your models to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room and the Garnier
17:18Hair Salon.
17:19The Piper Lime accessory wall.
17:21Use it thoughtfully.
17:23I'm sending in your models.
17:24Thank you, everyone.
17:25Thank you, Tim.
17:26Hello, ladies.
17:27I think it's cute.
17:28The top fits her well and the skirt fits her well.
17:32It's a little high above her hips.
17:34Let me see the pan thing first.
17:35I'm trying not to panic that the crotch isn't fitting as nicely.
17:39So I'm trying to just fix the problem as much as I can.
17:42And make it work.
17:43Okay.
17:44Put them in here.
17:45Your little press cup things.
17:46That way nobody gets them.
17:47Let's go to makeup.
17:48Okay.
17:49Hi.
17:50Hello.
17:51We want to do smokey eye.
17:54Uh-huh.
17:55Smokey eye.
17:56Imagine that.
17:57So how about a light smoke with that red?
17:59Yeah.
18:00Like a light smoke.
18:01Light.
18:02Yeah.
18:03Yeah.
18:04Let's do that.
18:05That'll be fun.
18:06Look at this.
18:07I want to simulate like the modern-day French braid.
18:16Okay, girl.
18:17Let's try this on.
18:18My dress looks beautiful on her.
18:19I really, really like it.
18:21So it's gonna go like this.
18:23The shrug?
18:24Ugh.
18:25I don't know how that's gonna work out.
18:26Designers and models, in 10 minutes, we're going down to the runway, all right?
18:31Yeah.
18:32It's fine.
18:33It's fine.
18:34As we're putting on the skirt, the invisible zipper breaks, I am probably gonna have a heart
18:39attack.
18:40Damn it.
18:41This can't be happening.
18:42I don't want to be sent home over a damn zipper.
18:47I had to pull out the pliers, did a little fixing.
18:51Ooh, girl.
18:52I was about to have a heart attack.
18:53You know, this is a weird challenge.
18:55Maybe like 50% of the room I'm a little nervous for.
18:59I think Andy's reads through and through Andy, but I don't think it reads at all Jacqueline.
19:05Mike C's outfit is a cocktail dress with like a mom jacket over it.
19:09Christopher, his outer piece, I think is just odd.
19:13All right, designers and models, follow me down to the runway.
19:17I don't know what three are gonna be in the bottom, because I feel like it could be one
19:22of those where like more than three are in the bottom.
19:25That's it.
19:26All right.
19:29Coming up on Project Runway.
19:31It looks like a dirty old rug.
19:34I think it's insulting.
19:35I feel like I'm on a different planet.
19:37This is a brain wreck.
19:38So what are you, a grand couturier?
19:40Did I miss something?
19:41I mean, come on.
19:50Hello.
19:51Hi.
19:52Welcome to the runway.
19:54As you know, in fashion one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
19:58There are nine of you here, and after tonight there will be eight.
20:02For this challenge we asked you to create a fashion-forward look that shows your take on
20:08American sportswear.
20:09You were inspired by fashion icon Jackie Kennedy.
20:13Then we asked you to create an outerwear piece to go with your look.
20:18You had $300 and two days to put it together.
20:21All right, let's meet the judges.
20:23First we have top American designer Michael Kors.
20:26Hey guys.
20:27Fashion director for Marie Claire Magazine Nina Garcia.
20:30Hi everyone.
20:31And our guest judge today, actress January Jones.
20:35Hi everyone.
20:36Hi.
20:37Hello.
20:38Welcome.
20:40We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
20:42One of you will be named the winner, and one of you will be out.
20:46Let's start the show.
20:59I really like the way it looks.
21:00I like the way it moves.
21:01She fills it out perfectly.
21:03I think that I understood this challenge.
21:07They've said clean, elegant, sophisticated, simple, but fashion-forward.
21:13And I think my dress is that.
21:22I love pencil skirts, and I think that she looks really sexy.
21:25It's me.
21:26It's edgy.
21:27I'm really happy with this look, and I think that it definitely fulfilled the challenge,
21:32and also fulfilled my aesthetic.
21:35And I'm really confident in it.
21:37I'm just so excited.
21:44She looks so beautiful, and she's really embodying Jacqueline Kennedy.
21:49The entire overall look looks stupendous, and it looks very, very expensive.
21:53I think it's very original, very different.
21:55It's things that I've never seen before.
21:57And I definitely am very proud of what I've created.
22:00Beautiful, baby.
22:02Gorgeous.
22:12I'm a little nervous.
22:13I'm curious to know what the judges are going to think of me sending down a cocktail dress.
22:17But my model looks great.
22:19Maybe her walking in this dress, she'll spark something in the judge's eye to make me safe,
22:24or put me in the top.
22:38It's really hard being on this side of the runway.
22:41I nitpick everything.
22:43But I feel like it looks like something Jacqueline would maybe wear,
22:47and more than anything, that's what feels good.
23:00You know, I've come a long way in this competition, and I really like my garment.
23:04There's something very beautiful about that monochromatic outfit.
23:07But as my model walks down the runway, I think to myself, the skirt's too short.
23:12Why is the skirt so short?
23:17Bye, guys.
23:28When I see my look coming down the runway, I feel great.
23:30I think I pulled off a very clean look, and it's very versatile.
23:34I think all the pieces could stand well on their own, but also changed amongst other garments in your wardrobe.
23:39It's good to be done and relaxed, but it's nerve-wracking,
23:42because you just never know which way the bottle's going to spin.
23:53Once it hits the runway, I have no power.
23:55I'm kind of sweating when I'm watching because of the fact that the fit is really off on the crotch area.
24:01But the overall look, I really, really love.
24:04Ian definitely exudes the spirit, the grace, and the elegance that Jacqueline Kennedy was all about.
24:11She looks sophisticated and strong and smart, and that's exactly what I wanted to send down.
24:14So I'm 150% happy with this look, and I think I'm going to win this one.
24:21Nice.
24:23If I call your name, please step forward.
24:25Mike Costello, please step forward.
24:27April.
24:28Gretchen.
24:29If I call your name, please step forward.
24:30Mike Costello, please step forward.
24:32Apel.
24:34Gretchen.
24:35If I call my name, please step forward.
24:38I think I'm going to win this one.
24:40And I'm going to win this one.
24:46You're okay.
24:48I'm going to win this one.
24:49You're okay.
24:50You're okay.
24:56If I've called your name congratulations your scores have qualified you to move on to the next challenge you can leave the runway
25:15Well, I guess we thought wrong
25:18Yeah, I could see you in the top three because Jackie Kennedy's a fashion icon and she sets trends and I could still imagine her
25:25In your in your outfit, you know, like it's so fashion-forward when I said it was an honor to be there with Gretchen
25:33I don't think Jackie Kennedy would ever wear any of those pieces that she sent down the runway
25:45The remaining designers have the highest and the lowest scores
25:50Let's bring out your models
25:55One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
26:09Valerie tell us about your look for Jacqueline Kennedy in
26:132010 I really wanted to keep her modern still keep her classic and keep her streamlined at the same time
26:19But I wanted to give her a little bit of an edge immediately thought of a fall look so that's why you put a jacket over a jacket
26:26Well, it's moving a jacket under the jacket, isn't she? I mean it could be used as a jacket, but it's like a blouse
26:31Can we have a little jacket sure?
26:34Is that not a jacket?
26:36It's a double knit and I made it intentionally to be something that can be worn as a blouse
26:41But it looks like a jacket she can wear a camisole underneath and if she wants she can take it off
26:45Can we put it back on sure?
26:48It has no impact at all. It's just sad looking
26:50I mean she's wearing a lycra tube skirt with no design in it the jacket looks very sadly tailored
26:58The collar is an odd shape
27:00Well, I wanted to keep it really simple and basic and I tried to put no guys simple doesn't mean boring
27:05Some of the best things are very simple and have no design gimmicks to them
27:13Christopher when I was thinking of Jacqueline Kennedy, I was definitely
27:18Inspired by the effortless the elegant theme so I wanted to do a dress a fitted dress
27:24With kind of an asymmetrical neckline and then when we got the opportunity for the second challenge
27:29I found these hides these furs and so I I cut the fur and then I
27:33Incorporated these pieces together to kind of create a stripe well that this was my favorite the dress is is beautiful
27:39I love the the silhouette of it. It's chic. I loved all the draping. I think the dress is
27:45Elegant and sexy at the same time. I like the subtle sheen the wrap on the other hand
27:51I like the texture and I like the color
27:53I have to say that that dress in itself is a tricky one to try to figure out what on earth you would wear over it
28:00Yes, what you've made. I mean it looks like a dirty old rug
28:06Because it's unreadable if you can't see it like that. It's not good
28:12Michael Drummond tell us about your look I was thinking about um things about Jackie Kennedy and I was thinking about an a vintage silhouette
28:19I wanted to do a deconstructed jacket. I did some cartridge pleating
28:23I just wanted to sort of make something modern but something that could also transcend to the past the top underneath the jacket is
28:32Just an insane concept that you would think that that has anything to do with
28:38American sportswear. I think it's insulting
28:42I don't think the drop waist is flattering with the belt because I just don't see any
28:47Of her in that. Can I see it without the jacket? Your muse was a woman that is iconic
28:54Yeah, she's fabulous. Right. I'm surprised that this is what you have to deliver
28:59Mondo, tell us about your look. In my kitchen. I have a picture of Jacqueline Kennedy
29:04She's turning around because the paparazzi is chasing her
29:07I started playing with the conceptual idea of like she's always in the public eye
29:11I wanted to find prints and textiles that were
29:14Overblown just to play with that idea and I just wanted to keep it really smart sleek and
29:20Streamlined I didn't mean your model. I meant you tell us about your look. Oh my look. Oh wow
29:27Well, my roommates are asking me to tap dance earlier
29:33It looks sharp. Yeah, it is
29:36Loud, but you designed within the challenge. Can we have a look at it without the jacket?
29:42I love that it has the color in the inside. You don't see it immediately, but it looks complete
29:48I think the t-shirt's fabulous. The silhouette is very classic very well tailored
29:54Jackie Kennedy would have worn that skirt with little flat shoes and a black turtleneck and it definitely does not look cheap
30:01The mix was very clever
30:04And it's fun yet. It's still elegant chic
30:08For a modern take on it. It's it's really really well done. And I think you look great together
30:14Thank you
30:15Ivy tell us about your look when I think of Jacqueline Kennedy
30:18I think classic timeless elegance and I got inspired by triangles and squares because I feel like
30:26Shapes are timeless. So I played around with contrasting of fabrics and
30:31Making sure that that there was something original or my signature on it
30:36Intrinsically it's elegant
30:39It's got a sharpness. Obviously the styling is very Jackie
30:44You know with the glasses with the slick chignon
30:46Can you close the jacket for me?
30:48I think there's something interesting also that it's tailored but not in the traditional men's sense
30:56I kind of like that you continue the idea of the
31:00Architectural geometry and I like the neckline. Thank you
31:05Should we have a look at it without the coat?
31:08It is better without the coat. I love it like that
31:10I love the tailoring of it and I love the seam the asymmetrical seam along the torso
31:16I actually like that twisted tuxedo pant. I think it's very chic. Thank you
31:21Andy
31:22I
31:23Associate Jacqueline Kennedy with an ease and a chicness about her. She wasn't afraid to have her own style
31:31The main piece of my look obviously are these pants
31:34Which are draped and they have these big pockets on the side and I just felt that they were just a great statement piece
31:40I have to tell you with this look
31:42I have a very hard time keeping it together because I want to like burst out and crack up especially for this challenge
31:48To come up with this. It's like I feel like I'm on a different planet
31:54I mean, can you imagine Jackie Kennedy in these pants with his ill-fitting top for underneath and then this funny bolero over it
32:02I don't see it at all. I don't see American
32:06Sportswear in that at all
32:07Well, that was one of my struggles too was this idea of American sportswear
32:11I don't necessarily consider myself an American sportswear designer
32:14So what are you a grand couturier? Did I miss something? No
32:17I mean come on if someone said to me the inspiration was
32:22M.C. Hammer meets, you know, the Beverly hillbillies grandmother
32:27I mean that's what that looks like the fit is horrific and then the ankle boot. I mean it's come on
32:32I mean they look a little bit from the 1800s though. Yeah, no, I mean she's making soap or something. I don't know what she's doing
32:40Okay, we've heard what you had to say
32:43We're gonna have a little chat
32:45And then I bring you back out you can leave the runway. Thank you
32:56Let's talk about the ones that we didn't like when I look at Valerie's I think there's no tailoring no imagination
33:03Nothing special no design. It's incredibly boring and blah
33:07I just have a problem with that black lycra skirt
33:12Ugly burgundy whatever that is none of the three pieces look special. It's just too boring
33:21Let's talk about andy. I cannot see
33:25Jackie kennedy in this entire look. I mean not on this planet. I think these pants didn't fit
33:32I'm just seeing ill-fitting and ill-appropriate when you look at andy how he styled the model
33:38Why is she wearing like nicole kidman's boots from cold mountain?
33:44I don't I mean what her hair from far and away and she's got the far and away here
33:47Maybe it's a Nicole kidman challenge because I don't know what it is
33:52Let's talk about michael drummond
33:54Talk about like just
33:56Like oh sign me up. I want something that's gonna look like my waist fell
34:01Where my hips are growing the proportion of the skirt the belt the tops were ill-fitting
34:08It's just he really put it together terribly. I would take the belt off
34:13And the jacket or where the jacket was something else. It's just you know, I mean, it's terribly unflattering
34:20That was also poor and sad. Yes
34:24You just overthought it. Yeah, exactly
34:26Let's talk about the designers that we did like christopher
34:33The dress is an elegant dress. It's there. It's it's sexy without being vulgar. Yeah, it fit her well
34:39Looked expensive. I think he was clever in picking that silhouette because it was very classic, but that shrug just
34:47Killed it that shock was horrible. The dress is wearable though. You'd wear that dress. Yeah. Well, I like this
34:53I liked the dress, but yeah, I thought it fit her well. I thought it was tailored
34:56I thought it was a perfect silhouette for a jackie sportswear
35:01Yeah
35:03We also liked uh mondo's he was the one that said he had a picture of jackie in his apartment, right? Yeah
35:11Well, it helped him. He was able to capture just that that allure that she had it was that clean
35:18It was the classic silhouette. Yes
35:20It's funny that how he managed to have these bold
35:24Colors and these big patterns that he actually managed for it to still look chic
35:29Let's talk about ivy's it was sleek and it was elegant, but then
35:38Why are they all designing so old?
35:40Well, I mean I I you know what I don't necessarily agree with you totally on ivy when you looked at the proportions of
35:48That top I thought the neckline was great
35:51Um, I love that the collar kind of flipped up asymmetrically and to be honest with you. This is the most polished
35:58Look and probably the best one that I have seen from her out in the runway
36:04So we've made our decision
36:11Okay, let's bring them back out
36:13The six of you have the highest and the lowest scores
36:27One of you will be named the winner and one of you will be out
36:31One of you will be named the winner
36:42And one of you will be out
36:48Mondo
36:50You are the clear winner of this challenge
36:54Congratulations
36:56You gave us a strong and well-made interpretation of american sportswear
37:00It was clean classic, but still contemporary and bold congratulations. You can leave the runway. Thank you. Thank you
37:11I'm so excited that I won this one. I've been waiting so long. I feel like I've been so close and finally I won
37:18You won? I won. Yes, finally. It's just really amazing
37:26I'm really glad that I got the recognition that I feel like I deserve and you know what I couldn't be happier
37:32Christopher you're in you can leave the runway
37:46Ivy you're in you can leave the runway
37:49You're in you can leave the runway. Thank you
38:05Michael
38:22Valerie one of you will be out
38:29Valerie
38:31You missed the mark in the big way
38:34Your look did not reach chic sportswear instead it was boring inexpensive badly executed malware
38:46Michael
38:48Your look was an unfortunate mismatch
38:52And your proportions were way off
38:54The top was ill-fitting and the bottom was bulky and unflattering and no woman wants that silhouette
39:04Valerie
39:11You're in you can leave the runway. Thank you very much
39:15Michael I'm sorry that means you're out
39:29You're in you can't
39:46sad i'm not kidding i'm not that depressed i'm mostly bummed out that i'm honestly going to be
39:53missing you and you and that's truly the case i'm really bummed out about that

40:37bye michael thank you for the experience love you too bye this is an incredible experience that i
40:46think thousands of designers would just die to have so i did exactly what i needed to do for this last
40:53competition and i don't feel bad about what i've created very lucky i mean i had a good time i have
40:59no regrets next time on project runway the winner of this challenge will receive something

41:15i just lost a day and a half designers can i have your attention please oh my god even i'm shaking
41:24over this i'm basically i think it's a very very glamorous and original design you have to choose
41:31either boobs or legs this was tragic wow
