00:03this next challenge will decide which three of you
00:06will make it to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:08We want you to create an outfit of your choice.
00:12I'm just confused.
00:14I definitely was having a major brain freeze.
00:17Don't bore Nina.
00:19Uh-oh.
00:20I'm just gonna start all over.
00:25Congratulations, Uli.
00:28You are going to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:32Laura, you're in.
00:33That means you are going to Fashion Week.
00:38You're both in.
00:43All four of us are going home.
00:49This is Project Runway.
00:51Fashion is my life.
00:52I'm going to win.
00:53Fifteen contestants.
00:55I'm fabulously glamorous.
00:57You have mad skills.
00:58But only one can be the winner.
01:00I'm better than that.
01:01You've got to be kidding me.
01:04For these fifteen contestants,
01:05Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:07We have a final four this year.
01:22Congratulations, Uli, Michael, Jeffrey, and Laura.
01:27Are you all excited?
01:28Yes.
01:29Good, because for your final challenge,
01:31you will be designing twelve looks for Olympus Fashion Week.
01:36We're giving you a budget of eight thousand dollars
01:38in two months to put it together.
01:41You also will be using your models from the last challenge.
01:45The winner will receive a spread in Elle magazine,
01:48a mentorship with Inc. International Concepts Design,

02:00and a hundred thousand dollars to start their own line,

02:06Got it?
02:07Got it.
02:08Okay, you have your challenge.
02:10And now I have a special guest.
02:12Tim Gunn.
02:22How are you?
02:23Tim on the runway.
02:25So, designers,
02:28you're going to be showing before the largest
02:30and most influential crowd in the fashion industry.
02:34So do what we know you can do.
02:37Do not play it safe.
02:39Amaze us.
02:40Okay, head back to Atlas to pack.
02:42And I see you back in New York in two months.
02:44Okay, have fun.
02:45Thank you so much.
02:46Bye.
02:47Bye, everybody.
02:48What are we going to do now?
02:49We're heading off into the sunset.
02:50For two months.
02:52We can go on a holiday, you and I.
02:53That would be lovely.
02:59I'm not just efficient at sewing, I'm efficient at packing.
03:03The opportunity to move another level forward with Bryant Park
03:07it's going to be such a career opportunity.
03:11I don't think it's necessarily daunting,
03:13the idea of having to produce a whole line.
03:15I mean, I've produced a whole line of kids.
03:17Why can't I produce a whole line of dresses?
03:20Atlas, you've been good to us.
03:22Yeah.
03:24Ah.
03:25This is it.
03:26This is it.
03:27You know what?
03:28I'm walking home.
03:29She's really walking home.
03:30Winning off the last challenge definitely makes me more confident to go to Bryant Park.
03:38People think I'm like just going with the flow and I'm enjoying the ride,
03:43but maybe I'm the one who's going to end up on top.
03:47The journey, the roller coaster up and down, it was all worth it.
03:50I'm here, I'm going to Bryant Park.
03:51My **** is going to be the bomb.
03:53Do know that.
03:54It will be hot.
03:55And it will be Michael Knight.
03:56I'm out for blood.
03:57I got to win.
03:58Au revoir.
03:59I've made it to Bryant Park and that's what I came for.
04:04All this effort was more than worth it.
04:07The opportunity to make a collection that I want to see walk down the runway is my dream.
04:14And that feels really good.
04:16Bye, Atlas.
04:20Yeah.
04:29I'm traveling to check on the collections of our four finalists.
04:38First is Michael Knight, who's working on his collection in Atlanta.
04:41How are you doing?
04:42How are you?
04:43I'm great.
04:44How are you?
04:45I'm great.
04:46How are you?
04:47I'm great.
04:48Good to see you.
04:49Good to see you too.
04:50Come on in.
04:51Wonderful.
04:53So do you.
04:55Tim Gunn finally arrives.
04:57It was like seeing an old friend.
04:58By the way, I'm a brace face now.
05:00You see I'm braces now.
05:01So let me just, America has braces.
05:03So, you know, you can just call me brace face.
05:07Yeah, this is an adorable house.
05:09Thank you so much.
05:10I love it.
05:11How long have you been here?
05:12For about two years now.
05:13Okay, well this is my office slash work room here.
05:16This is where I do my work.
05:17Nice.
05:18My little sewing nook.
05:19Great.
05:20And this is where I live.
05:22This is where I work.
05:23So where's your collection?
05:24I can't wait to see it.
05:25Here.
05:26I have a couple of pieces here.
05:27And I actually set up everything.
05:29Can we take everything out in the living room?
05:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:31Let's go.
05:32So here we are.
05:33My Coleccione.
05:35Great.
05:36So how far along are you?
05:38I'm definitely, I'm still in the early beginning stages.
05:42I've just started maybe a week and a half ago.
05:45My collection, I call it a street safari basically.
05:49Okay.
05:50First title.
05:51I don't know.
05:52I just really started with this look here.
05:54And it's pretty much like a dress in a safari style jacket.
05:58From there, everything else came with it.
06:00I wanted to kind of keep the palette somewhat neutral, but kind of with splashes of color.
06:04It's great.
06:05Yes, exactly.
06:06And as I started to design it, it almost, some of the pieces have a slight 70s feel to it.
06:12This is that first piece here.
06:14Yeah.
06:15It's done.
06:16I like these details.
06:18It's nice.
06:19I think it's a great place to begin.
06:20So what else do you have?
06:22I have a couple more pieces I can show you.
06:24Yeah.
06:25I want to see them.
06:26I'm going to tell you I'm having a conflict here.
06:32I want you to make sure that this collection is cohesive, because I'm not seeing it right
06:37now.
06:38What's happening with this rear end?
06:40I don't know.
06:41That's what I'm saying.
06:42I'm not good with zippers.
06:43I think you need to shorten it.
06:44Okay.
06:45Tim suggested that I make my collection a little bit more cohesive.
06:49I have just a little less than a month left, and I only have three looks completed.
06:56I don't want to fret over it, so I'm going to continue just to do what I do and make it
07:02work somehow.
07:03So just do it.
07:04Get to work.
07:05I love it.
07:06Okay.
07:07So this is all my stuff.
07:08Love your feedback.
07:09And my parents are actually going to meet us at my cousin's house.
07:13We're going to have dinner.
07:14Great.
07:15I'm going to cook dinner for you.
07:17I'm a great chef.
07:18I can cook really, really good.
07:21Hey, Tim.
07:22This is my father, Michael.
07:23Hi, Michael.
07:24Nice to meet you.
07:26How are you?
07:27How are you?
07:28I'm so good.
07:29Good to see you.
07:30You too?
07:32You look great.
07:33Why, thank you.
07:34It's important for Tim to meet my family just because I just want to show him, you know,
07:38what I came from.
07:40Basically, I am an army brat, so I lived and grew up, like, everywhere.
07:45I lived in Oklahoma, Texas, New York, and a host of other states.
07:50One day, I think I was maybe like nine or ten, I just pulled out some lined paper and
07:56my big fat jumbo Crayola markers and just started to sketch.
08:00It really was God-given.
08:02My family, my mother, my father have had my back since day one.
08:06My wife and I say, he's going to be a beautician.
08:08We see it.
08:09That's pretty much the way he's going to go.
08:11But he did a turn on us.
08:12He's so lucky to have your support.
08:15Never once did I say, Michael, you don't want to do this.
08:18Son, I've seen, you know.
08:21I love you.
08:22They've always called me the star of the family.
08:24They're my motivation.
08:25I really want to learn to make them proud.
08:28Father, we thank you right now.
08:29And we're just so honored to be a part of this great feat for Michael.
08:33And we ask right now, God, that you will continue to watch over him.
08:36Amen.
08:37Amen.
08:38I'm really ready to go to Fashion Week and win this show.
08:42Oh, I hope I don't eat those words.
08:43No, I'm going to win.
08:44I'm going to win.
08:45I'm going to win.
08:46Got to think positive.
08:48This is so good.
08:58Next up is Laura Bennett, who's been working on her collection in New York City.
09:05Laura?
09:06Yes.
09:07Hi, it's Tim Gunn.
09:08Oh, this is so exciting.
09:09Come up.
09:14Hello.
09:15I'm so thrilled to see you.
09:17It was great to see Tim again.
09:19Sort of a friendly, familiar face.
09:22You look fantastic.
09:23I've been very busy.
09:24I know you have.
09:25So I haven't had much time to whine about being proud.
09:28This baby is a boy.
09:30It is my fifth boy in a row.
09:33What are the chances of that?
09:35Probably about the same as making it on Project Runway.
09:38It certainly hasn't slowed me down at all.
09:40Wow.
09:41What space?
09:42It's a great space for New York.
09:44And it's a great space for the kids,
09:46because they have a lot of room to run and play.
09:49And I have some pictures, some funny pictures I wanted to show you.
09:53Here's my grandmother.
09:54She was a painter.
09:55And I spent a lot of time with her as a child,
09:57sewing and painting and making little sculptures.
09:59It's in the blood.
10:01I lived in New Orleans most of my life.
10:03My mother worked as a sewing teacher.
10:06Oh.
10:07And I learned to sew from her.
10:09And that's definitely been influential in the sewing work that I do now.
10:13Well, can I show you my collection?
10:14I'd love to see, yeah.
10:15Let's see.
10:16I've been working very hard.
10:17I have it divided into four groups.
10:19Laura.
10:20What can all of you have done?
10:22I know.
10:23Well, nothing is finished, but what I wanted to do is get something going on each environment
10:28so that we had something to discuss.
10:30This one is a simple jersey gown, but the embellishment happens on the inside.
10:36Beautiful.
10:37So, from the outside, it looks kind of quiet and demurring.
10:41Then when she moves, you get that sort of sparkle.
10:44I really thought that I needed to do a collection that was about me and some of my signature moves
10:50and take it all to a new level.
10:53I thought that evening wear would put on a better show.
10:56Where do we go next?
10:57The last group.
10:58I love these, and I see perfectly how they fit in and how the transition can work.
11:04But you know, I've got to tell you something.
11:07You're going to have to really youth this up in the styling as it could go old.
11:13Yeah.
11:14This one, the green is...
11:17It's all out there.
11:19It's a lot of look.
11:20I guess this is where I was trying to take a risk for that kind of final piece and go out of my kind of comfort zone.
11:27But I just think in order to win this competition, I can't be safe.
11:31I really want to win this competition.
11:35I surprised myself how competitive I've become.
11:38I don't want my friends to say, that was beautiful, you should have won.
11:41I just really want to win.
11:43Here's my question.
11:44I'm going to be perfectly want.
11:45Is this even pretty?
11:46I am not certain it is for me.
11:50Hmm.
11:52On the one hand, you have achieved a miraculous amount of work.
11:56At the same time, you've got a lot to think about.
11:58Yeah.
11:59A lot of the work that I have left to do is hand working and very tedious.
12:02Yeah.
12:03How adept are the boys?
12:05Oh, speaking of the boys.
12:08Wow, what timing?
12:10Did you say hello to Tim?
12:12Hey, how are you?
12:14What's that?
12:15What is it?
12:16Turtle poop.
12:17Ew.
12:18Sorry.
12:19I don't think I went any turtle poop.
12:22I'm drawing the line of the turtle poop.
12:24My littlest one offered him turtle poop.
12:26Maybe that was sort of an olive branch to sort of offer Tim the turtle.
12:30Here, welcome to our clan.
12:32Have some poop.
12:34The turtle's in it.
12:35Where's the turtle poop?
12:36Yeah, where's the turtle?
12:38All right, let's find Frank, everybody.
12:40All right, we're missing a turtle.
12:42Hopefully he didn't go out the stairs.
12:45I don't know where he is.
12:48All right, well, he'll show up.
12:51Hi, how are you?
12:52Hi, Peter.
12:53Nice to see you.
12:54Good to see you.
12:55How are you?
12:56Great.
12:57Good.
12:58I've been here with you and the kids for how long have we all been together?
13:0330 minutes?
13:04I'm already exhausted.
13:05How do you do all this?
13:07If we don't have this, we go, wait, it's too quiet.
13:10Yay.
13:11There's Frank.
13:13It's a good-looking tourist.
13:15Raising five children, I've never really been able to get any of my personal design work off the ground
13:21because I've never had the money to start a business and take it to the next level.
13:26So hopefully the winning Project Runway will do that for me.
13:31Congratulations on the collection.
13:33And you're going to bring it all together.
13:36Yeah, we'll make those tough decisions.
13:38Yes.
13:39I've been fortunate that my family has really sort of gathered around me and really driven
13:42me to want to succeed and take this whole thing.
13:45I want to take those other designers down.
13:51Coming up on Project Runway.
13:53I'm completely in awe of what you're doing with these zippers.
13:57Awesome.
13:58How was your life, Jeffrey?
13:59Are people throwing eggs at you?
14:01I didn't jump up off the sofa when Jeffrey came in.
14:06Next, I'm traveling to see Uli Hirsner, who's been working on her collection in Miami.
14:19Hi, Tim.
14:20Hey, how are you, sweetheart?
14:21How are you?
14:22I'm so thrilled to see you.
14:23Nice seeing you again, sitting out here, but that's the dream of America.
14:27Wow.
14:28Nice, huh?
14:29That's incredible.
14:30This is just fantastic.
14:33Yeah.
14:34That's why I do all these tropical dresses.
14:38I understand it.
14:39A lot of my inspiration comes from Miami and the living down here and the weather and the
14:44water and the colors here and the people's lifestyle.
14:48So I'd love to see the collection.
14:50My collection of the theme is going to be like safari, tropical safari things.
14:55I want to do dresses.
14:57This I started with.
14:59It's beautiful, but that isn't enough to win.
15:02I'm worried about the judges saying, you're in one note.
15:05What about this collection is going to surprise them?
15:09This one?
15:10Yeah.
15:11This is beautiful.
15:12And I love it with that.
15:14And it goes back into kind of the safari to feel.
15:17Oh, definitely.
15:18With the bone.
15:19Yeah.
15:20I'm glad you like that.
15:21I love it.
15:22So I have my 12 pieces.
15:23I know what I want to do, so I just have to do it now.
15:26But that took a long time to figure out what I wanted to do, actually.
15:31But now that you have and you're there, you know you can just move forward and not really
15:36think anymore, just make.
15:38So, maybe it would be good for us to clear out of your studio space and go somewhere
15:43and have a just talk.
15:44Yeah.
15:45Let's go to the beach because I get a lot of inspiration from the beach and the pantries.
15:49This is amazing.
15:52Yeah, this is beautiful and vast.
15:54I just like it.
15:55It's gone there.
15:57Yeah.
15:58This is just so different from Germany.
16:02Oh, yeah.
16:03The big, big, big difference.
16:04Were you dreaming about living in a climate like this?
16:07Actually, when I was little, I could see a Miami Weiss when I was a little girl.
16:12And I would always see Miami Weiss and I was dreaming of the pantries and the beaches and
16:17the water.
16:18And then I ended up here.
16:19You have it now.
16:20I have it.
16:21Growing up in East Germany, we didn't have much.
16:24If you don't have things, you make things.
16:26That's what I learned there.
16:27And I started making clothes very early, I think, when I was eight.
16:31I also grew up with not much color.
16:33And that's why I want to show more life and color and movement in my clothes.
16:39I knew you grew up in Germany, but I didn't realize that you grew up in East Germany.
16:43It was really dangerous.
16:44Yes.
16:45You would get shot or, like, would go to jail.
16:47It doesn't matter how old you were.
16:48Terrible penalties.
16:49I was always thinking of a way how to get out.
16:52And then all of a sudden, it opened overnight.
16:55I mean, I really lived that dream, what you say, if you come to America and you, maybe
17:00you're nobody and maybe you can make it in quite a short time.
17:03And I think I'm, I'm almost there.
17:06I might be there, which is kind of a dream thing, which wouldn't happen in another country.
17:11I don't think it would have happened in Germany.
17:13It's a weird feeling coming from a small town in Eastern Germany.
17:18And now I'm being the big star on New York Fashion Week.
17:21But surprises happen.
17:22And I think that's why everybody comes to this country, because things can happen.
17:27And now I can see it's really true.
17:30Dreams can come through here.
17:41And finally, I'm visiting Jeffrey Sebelia, who's working on his collection in Los Angeles.
17:48Hey, how are you?
17:51Good.
17:52Good, good, good.
17:53Great to see you.
17:55I was excited that Tim was coming, but also really nervous because throughout the show,
18:00I didn't feel like I convinced Tim of what my point of view was.
18:04Hi, Tim.
18:05Got to give you a kiss.
18:07How are you, Melanie?
18:08I'm so good.
18:09And this has got to be Harrison.
18:10Hi, Harrison.
18:11I met Melanie through some mutual friends a couple of years ago.
18:14And we fell in love immediately.
18:16And five months after we got together, Melanie got pregnant.
18:20Congratulations on this little guy.
18:23I always say it's Jeff's best design.
18:26We just feel lucky.
18:27Having a baby, having Harrison has opened my heart up more than I could ever have imagined.
18:32I love him more than I love anything.
18:35Anything or anyone.
18:37Aren't you pleased you're not living and designing in the same place?
18:41I was.
18:42I started making clothes in my living room here.
18:45I was having to make things around the clock.
18:47I literally worked from six in the morning until like two the next morning.
18:50It just took off immediately.
18:52Whatever success I have now as a designer, any success is due solely to the fact that I'm sober.
18:59I was born in LA.
19:01My dad left us when I was eight.
19:03And, uh, but when he was around, he was a really scary guy with a lot of rage.
19:08You know, I sort of blamed myself for his leaving.
19:11I was just a very damaged child.
19:14Got into drugs really young.
19:16It's really hard on my family.
19:18About five years ago, I had been on this run for four years.
19:21It was just, you know, gruesome, just, you know, shooting drugs.
19:24Just whatever you can imagine.
19:26And I went to kill myself.
19:29I was going to hang myself.
19:30And this roommate that I had who was supposed to be at work, I let go from her job.
19:34Came home, found me, and saved me.
19:38The next day, I called somebody for help.
19:41And, uh, I've been clean ever since.
19:44Been almost five years now.
19:46It's amazing to have Harrison now and to think about, you know, how hard it is for me when he just falls down and starts crying.
19:55You know, uh, I can't imagine what it's like to have one of your children turn out to be a drug addict living on the streets.
20:01Heartbreaking.
20:02Heartbreaking.
20:03So?
20:04So how have things been for you since the show started to air?
20:07Oh, uh, crazy.
20:09I was doing work developing my next season and trying to spend time with my family.
20:14Yeah.
20:15And now working on the final collection for the show.
20:17There have been several days where I just thought, God, this is a lot.
20:21More and more I want to win.
20:22You know, I really want to win.
20:24My motivation is to have a future for Harrison and to make a life that he can have and that he's proud of his father.
20:31I'm happy with the way the collection's turning out.
20:34Very happy.
20:35So let's go see it.
20:36I'd love to see it.
20:37Yeah, yeah.
20:38I'd love to see it.
20:39Cool.
20:40Bye, guys.
20:41Say bye.
20:42Take care.
20:43See you guys in a bit.
20:44Bye!
20:45So I went down to my space in downtown L.A., where my office is and also my small sewing facility.
20:51So here we are.
20:52It's a great building.
20:53Yeah, it's nice.
20:56Wow.
20:57Here we are.
20:58Look at the size of this space.
21:01So this is what I'm working on.
21:03I'd love to see.
21:04Maybe we'll put this on the form.
21:05Okay.
21:06Because it's a sideshow freak, this thing.
21:10Is it?
21:11Yeah, I love it.
21:12I love it, I love it, I love it.
21:13My initial inspiration for the collection was the Japanese ghost and demon stories.
21:18Even though some of the stories are kind of childlike, they're very sophisticated and very scary at the same time.
21:22They use a lot of the color inspiration, a lot of the watercolor paintings of these kimonos, the way they're draped.
21:29I wanted to really try to personify that in this little collection if possible.
21:33I'm completely in awe of what you're doing with these zippers.
21:38Awesome.
21:39And I don't know, I mean, I'm so in it.
21:41I was sick of the whole thing three days ago.
21:43Now that's natural.
21:44You should be, because you're living with it.
21:46And it's like, oh, God.
21:47And it just goes on for so long.
21:49Yeah, it does.
21:50So then this is to fit in again with this sort of more casual story.
21:55Just a really pretty halter.
22:00Unexpected.
22:01Oh, cool, cool.
22:02Thanks.
22:03This is beautiful.
22:04I got to give you a hug.
22:05Yes, thank you.
22:06I'm just so proud of this.
22:08Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
22:10Yeah.
22:11I hope the judges like it.
22:12Tim really likes it, which feels good.
22:14But I don't think it's at all any kind of foreshadowing about how the judges are going to perceive what I do.
22:19I'm living on borrowed time, and it's all a gift at this point.
22:24It's all just a huge gift.
22:25I'm eternally grateful for everything that I have.
22:43Man, I am back in New York City.
22:45I'm excited.
22:46This moment is actually happening to me.
22:48I can't believe it, and I'm ready for it.
22:50I'm excited.
22:53I love the collection.
22:54It's really hot.
22:55Ooh.
22:56Whoa.
22:58It's nasty.
22:59It's nasty.
23:00I love my collection.
23:01It's hot.
23:07This is hot.
23:10I am exhausted because I haven't been asleep in two days just pretty much trying to finish up this collection.
23:17I feel really good about my collection.
23:18I think it's what everyone wants to see from me.
23:19I really want to win, if not for any other reason, just so that Jeffrey doesn't win.
23:34Hello.
23:35Hello.
23:36I can't believe it.
23:37There's a great man at the door.
23:38Oh!
23:39It's great being back in New York City.
23:40I couldn't wait to get here actually and to see all the designers and actually my biggest
23:44thing was just seeing how their collection came together and what I'm competing against.
23:52I'm going to surprise some of the other designers.
23:53I want to win and I'm going to win.
23:54Hey, guys.
23:55Oh.
23:56Oh!
23:57Oh!
23:58There she is.
23:59I'm not so sanitary.
24:00I am going to fun.
24:01Look at, look.
24:02It's okay.
24:03Here she is.
24:04I'm not so scared.
24:05Oh.
24:06It's okay.
24:08It's great being back in New York City.
24:09It's great being back in New York City.
24:10I couldn't wait to get here actually and to see all the designers and actually my biggest
24:19thing was just seeing how their collection came together and what I'm competing against.
24:23It's okay, it's okay.
24:25How are you?
24:26How are you?
24:27I don't know, but I can still hug.
24:33Now I'm here, and I'm excited to be going to Olympus Fashion Week.
24:37I've busted my ass, and, you know, I've gotten everything done that I want to get done,
24:42because I know that there's probably going to be some kind of surprise,
24:45and I want to be prepared.
24:47I'm going to win it all.
24:50Car, money, fame.
24:57And there he is.
24:59Hey!
25:01How was your life, Jeffrey?
25:03How was my life?
25:04Yeah, are people throwing eggs at you?
25:06No, not at all.
25:07No, they love you?
25:08Not at all.
25:09No, you're cool.
25:10You're the coolest.
25:11Jeffrey, go.
25:12I've had...
25:13What's going on, Jeffrey?
25:14How are you, man?
25:15I'm good, man.
25:16Let's see.
25:17I didn't jump up off the sofa when Jeffrey came in, the way I did when Uli did.
25:21How is life, Jeffrey?
25:22It's really good.
25:23Are you super-star in LA now?
25:25It's crazy busy, yeah.
25:26But I haven't rested at all.
25:28Like, three hours of sleep a night.
25:30Four hours of sleep a night.
25:31If that, that was until the night was about for like two days.
25:34All right, good night, you guys.
25:35Good night, Uli.
25:36I can't handle it any longer.
25:38Me neither.
25:39It's the four of us, and, you know, we're all pretty confident and ready to go.
25:45Ready to bring the pain.
25:46Coming up on Project Runway.
25:51Oh, yeah.
25:52It just looks sort of cartoon-y.
25:55If we all want to, it's gonna be fine.
25:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
25:59Definitely, yes.
26:00Today is our first full work day, and it's exciting to get back in the workroom with Uli and Michael, and even the tension that Jeff tries to cause.
26:19Oh, wow.
26:20This is our workspace.
26:21Nice.
26:22Cool.
26:23Nice.
26:24Cool.
26:25It's cool.
26:26Yeah.
26:27Everybody was trying to front like they weren't really trying to look at everybody's collection, but I know everybody was, because I'm not gonna even lie. I wasn't. No, I'm joking.
26:40Do you have a lot of, like, three-piece outfits, Jeffrey?
26:41I have eight dresses, one bathing suit, and three separates.
26:42It looks like you have a lot of pieces.
26:43I think it's the plastic bags that add this illusion of volume to it all.
26:56Hi, everybody.
26:57Hi, Tim.
26:58Hi, Tim.
26:59How are you?
27:00Good.
27:01How are you?
27:02I'm great, thanks.
27:03Designers, may I ask you to gather around, please?
27:08Welcome to your workspace, courtesy of Macy's.
27:12First, I want to congratulate each of you.
27:15You are going to Olympus Fashion Week.
27:18It is the industry's biggest stage.
27:22You need to think about your entire presentation.
27:25This is going to be an extremely busy week, and today is no exception.
27:29And it's been a few weeks since I've seen each of you.
27:32So I'm eager to check on your progress, and Jeffrey, I'd love to start with you.
27:35Cool.
27:36Okay?
27:37Yes, I guess.
27:38Thanks.
27:39So where are you with your progress?
27:40I'm really, I'm in good, really good shape.
27:43This is a look with the leather vest.
27:45It's stunning.
27:46Yeah, it's beautiful.
27:47It's really stunning.
27:48I absolutely love it.
27:49It really is.
27:50Then that inspired the handbag.
27:52Oh, yeah, this is beautiful.
27:53Right?
27:54With the zippers.
27:55Out of the old blazer, pieces.
27:58I may not even use these.
28:00I made them because I was thinking, well, I don't have this fabric anywhere else.
28:05Okay.
28:06All right.
28:07What else do you have left to do?
28:08Nothing.
28:09Congratulations.
28:12It's been a lot.
28:13You should feel so great.
28:14A lot of work.
28:15It shows.
28:16Carry on.
28:17Carry on.
28:18Holy, can I see you next?
28:19Yes, of course, Tim.
28:20Great.
28:21I would like to start with this little outfit.
28:23I think it goes really nice into the safari theme.
28:27I'm really anxious to see these on some of your models.
28:30Like worried anxious or like anxious?
28:33Well, more about proportion than anything else.
28:36Yeah.
28:37About how they really work.
28:38Mm-hmm.
28:39I mean, in some ways, I miss your prints.
28:40Yeah.
28:41I think I'm going to be like, what happened?
28:44Okay, Uli.
28:45I'm with you all week.
28:46We'll get through all this.
28:48Yeah, I hope you see some on the girl.
28:50Laura, can I see you next?
28:51Absolutely.
28:52Great.
28:53So this is a gorgeous way to start.
28:55Well, instead of just having, you know, a short dress, I really just wanted to go all
28:59out with this piece.
29:00And really, the detailing is incredible.
29:02This yoke.
29:03This is amazing.
29:05And you got rid of the chartreuse popsicle.
29:08I got rid of the color, basically.
29:11But this looks like a 12-piece collection.
29:15Yeah.
29:16Yeah.
29:17Just have details to work out.
29:19Yeah.
29:20And you'll be, you'll be fine.
29:22So I'm there.
29:23You are there.
29:26Okay.
29:27I am there.
29:28Michael, when I saw you, there wasn't a lot finished.
29:32Hey.
29:33Let's look at the rest of it.
29:42This is another look, a take on a little safari-style shirt.
29:46It just looks sort of cartoony.
29:49It looks like you were trying too hard.
29:56And we've got this bling happening.
29:57Mm-hmm.
29:58Well, here, I have two thoughts.
30:00One is to go over the top with this.
30:03The other would be to start taking them away from these.
30:06Anyway, you just need to pull this all together
30:09and make it look as though it all fits in the closet
30:13of the same woman.
30:15Okay.
30:16All right.
30:17It's make it work time, Michael.
30:19Yeah, it is.
30:21Hmm.
30:22Everybody, you were each given a budget of $8,000,
30:25and I'd like to collect the receipts before I leave today.
30:28Cool.
30:29Yeah.
30:30Great.
30:32Jeffrey, you have yours?
30:33Yeah, yeah.
30:34Just making sure I have sketches in here.
30:35I had it all together.
30:36Okay.
30:37So I just got to...
30:45So, designers, I will see you a little later, all right?
30:48Okay, great.
30:49I will check back with you.
30:50Okie dokie.
30:52Thanks, Tim.
30:59Tim questioned my collection.
31:01I would rather go way over the top
31:04than not to do anything at all,
31:05because it would be a boring show.
31:07Yeah, let's have to rework those things,
31:08and I'll be golden.
31:10The main thing is basically the model fitting.
31:14You have to pick the right girl for the right outfit.
31:17That can either make the outfit,
31:19or it could be your downfall.
31:25Hi.
31:26Hi.
31:27All right, we need you to walk for us.
31:29We have a cast.
31:30She has hips.
31:31Well, take them.
31:32We had our model casting today,
31:35which I was really excited for.
31:37Like, this is the fun stuff.
31:38I really wanted a really, really strong walker.
31:45I was thinking about the individual dresses that I have
31:48and what sort of requirements I have
31:50to make those dresses look the best that they possibly can.
31:53Hi.
31:54Oh, look at that.
31:55Hi.
31:56How are you?
31:57I think we just need to call them with them.
31:59He knows what you can do.
32:00Yeah.
32:01Hey, can you pull your hair back for a minute?
32:02My biggest concern was, you know, getting the models,
32:05getting the right size and shape models,
32:07getting the right skin tone on the models, their walks.
32:13I know who you are, I guess.
32:18She's Michaels.
32:19Yes.
32:20No, I'm not the man.
32:21I just like them.
32:22I can't help who I like.
32:23I can't help.
32:24I can't help.
32:25I can't help.
32:26I can't help.
32:27If we all want to.
32:28It's going to be a fight.
32:29It's going to be a fight.
32:38Hello.
32:39Hello.
32:40How are you?
32:41Hi.
32:42Good to see you again.
32:43After we did the model choosing,
32:44we had our first consultation for hair.
32:46It's a feeling of, but modify it to each model so they look their prettiest.
32:52I really want big roller set hair.
32:55What you want is, you want the hair to bounce and move.
32:58Yeah, love it.
32:59So I see you brought the look with you.
33:01I brought the look with you.
33:02I chose the wigs because they're all the same.
33:05I want the girls to sort of be a blank slate for the clothes.
33:08We could have this really clean hard edge here and then keep all of this kind of soft.
33:15Yeah.
33:16I want her to look natural, but pretty.
33:20There's some softness, a little bit of fly away texture.
33:23Okay.
33:24Well, I'm excited.
33:25Me too.
33:26I will see you in Olympus Fashion Week.
33:27Cool.
33:28Yeah.
33:29I was really anticipating getting to the workspace because I can't wait to see the models and
33:45to start fitting my pieces on them.
33:47This is when it all comes together.
33:50Are we ready to go?
33:54Good.
33:55Amazing.
33:56Thanks.
33:57Are we going without Jeff?
33:58Oh, where are you?
33:59I'm right here.
34:00What's going on?
34:03Congratulations.
34:05How comfortable are you with swimsuits?
34:06I have a swimsuit.
34:07Do you wear those?
34:08Hi.
34:09How are you?
34:10All right.
34:11I have this one dress that needs some boobs.
34:13Hi.
34:14How are you?
34:15Hi.
34:16How are you?
34:17All right.
34:18I have this one dress that needs some boobs.
34:21Hi, Lily.
34:22Hi.
34:23How are you?
34:24Cute on her, huh, Lara?
34:27I'm Jeff.
34:28Nice to see you, Michelle.
34:29Nice to see you.
34:31Jeffrey hasn't had a lot of alterations to do for the models that he's fitted today.
34:35And a lot of his dresses are very full at the bottom, so it's a much easier sort of dress
34:40to fit.
34:41And then I'm going to attach that, but no, you're perfect.
34:44I understand that there's not alterations to do, but the fact that every hook, every
34:50seam is finished, every hem is done, it's just, it just doesn't seem possible.
34:55Awesome.
34:56Yes.
34:57Coming up on Project Runway.
34:58How can it be that he doesn't have a single hook to put on?
35:02That's true.
35:03I just doubt that he actually had the time to execute those garments in the time we were
35:07given.
35:08We're going to consult with Collier Strong from L'Oreal Paris to start working on our
35:19makeup looks.
35:20Hey.
35:21What's good?
35:22For the makeup, I was thinking of something more muted.
35:25Like a block, more animal-like.
35:28You really look like a tiger or something.
35:31The makeup, nude, shiny.
35:33I love the shine.
35:34Mm-hmm.
35:35See the reflection that it creates?
35:36Yeah.
35:37Cool.
35:38You like it?
35:39Love it.
35:40My idea was to go with a strong eye.
35:42What could be interesting too, and very youthful, is the girls had hardly any makeup on.
35:47Bronze.
35:48Hi.
35:49Chloe.
35:50And then just use a lot of shimmery shadow and highlighters.
35:54Yeah?
35:55Yeah.
35:56See you on TV then, I guess.
35:57I'll see.
35:58Bye.
35:59I have to figure out how this whole thing now twists.
36:17I've been thinking about this actually for the last two days.
36:20I just don't believe that Jeffrey sewed that collection himself.
36:25He sat there all day twiddling his thumbs and staring at his model cards.
36:30How can it be that he doesn't have a single hook to put on?
36:33That's true.
36:34I just doubt that he actually had the time to execute those garments in the time we were
36:39given.
36:40Especially when he talks about how he was also working on his own collection.
36:44Exactly.
36:45I've left my house to eat twice.
36:47I really have no problem with Jeffrey.
36:49I believe it's his designs.
36:50But you just don't pull craftsmanship like that out of your ass.
36:55Things that I'm talking about like incredible finishing on the inside of the garments.
37:00Grow grain covered seam allowances.
37:02Okay, let me see it.
37:03I never saw it.
37:04It's surely suspicious that his level of craftsmanship bumped up so fast.
37:08Laura, it's not that perfect.
37:10Look, this is not perfect.
37:12Uli.
37:13Uli.
37:14We noticed the leather jeans at first at the same time.
37:19Like damn, those are really damn good.
37:20And thoughts start going in my mind as well.
37:22You know, we've never seen that type of work from him before, you know.
37:26We're all saying the same thing.
37:27The jeans look really good, but we can't prove he got made.
37:30The thing is, I think he designed all these things.
37:33I have no doubt that they're his designs.
37:35No, I totally know what you're saying.
37:37But I think when he comes back he senses and we should say something because
37:41just to get it out.
37:42Yeah, I'm going to have to say something now.
37:44Just to get it out.
37:45Because now it's kind of a weird feeling.
37:46It's going to be like the big elephant in the room and everybody's ignoring.
37:48Like, nah, I don't do this at all.
37:50Like, this is just not what I do at all.
37:53You know what, Michael?
37:54It's not what I do either.
37:55Believe me, when he gets back, you're telling him right now exactly what I said.
38:00Hi, everybody.
38:01Hi, Tim.
38:02How are you?
38:03Today went pretty good, but I still miss four girls.
38:06But you've made decisions about who's wearing socks?
38:09Yes.
38:10Yes.
38:11Backup girls, I always tried like three, four outfits because sometimes in the end things
38:15don't work out and I could go back and swap around.
38:18This is going to be my finishing dress because it's such a long dress.
38:22Before it was like just a little...
38:24No, it looks much stronger.
38:25All right.
38:27Laura, how about you?
38:29I just have one left to show up.
38:31You're kidding.
38:32You've had 11 girls?
38:33Mm-hmm.
38:34So I'm just doing, you know, finishing touches, you know, moving of a hook and a snap and,
38:39you know, slight adjustment to the hem and things like that.
38:41Okay.
38:42Can I tell you something?
38:43Privately?
38:44Do you want to go out on the terrace?
38:46Um, sure.
38:48Okay.
38:49Sure.
38:51Are you all right?
38:52Yeah.
38:53This is gorgeous.
38:54It's nice.
38:55Jeffrey spends a lot of time out here.
38:56He likes it.
38:57So speaking of Jeffrey, I just believe that Jeffrey didn't sew his collection on his own.
39:03It's a lot of work that he did in that amount of time.
39:07Everything is completely finished on the inside.
39:09They're leather jeans that are top stitched to perfection.
39:14And he never had that kind of craftsmanship before.
39:17I don't doubt that it's his design, that it's his aesthetic, that it's his fabric.
39:23I just know that he's been talking about how busy he was doing his collection for his showrooms.
39:29There's nothing that I can prove.
39:31It's a gut feeling.
39:32I just wanted to go on record as having said.
39:35I just don't believe he did all that sewing on his own.
39:38It can be very difficult, if not impossible, to prove something like this.
39:43Absolutely.
39:44But what I also want to assure you of is that I'm taking it to the producers.
39:48And we will investigate this as well as we can.
39:51All right.
39:56Okay.
39:57I'm going to let you all carry on, get back to work, and I will see you tomorrow.
40:02Okay.
40:03Okay?
40:05I think some people are going to feel like I was like a total bitch to bring it up or say anything.
40:10But it just didn't happen.
40:12There's no way that that collection was sewn exclusively by Jeffrey in the last two months.
40:17Coming up on Project Runway.
40:19Jeffrey, Laura has an announcement to make.
40:22I just wanted to tell you that I told Tim Gunn I felt that you had outside help to finish them.
40:27Jeffrey, Laura has an announcement to make.
40:28I just wanted to tell you that I told Tim Gunn that I thought that your garments were so well finished and the level of craftsmanship was so bumped up from what I've seen you do all season that I felt that you had outside help to finish them.
40:40No.
40:41Absolutely not.
40:42I mean, I've, yeah, I've come on this show to show what I can do.
40:45You know?
40:46All right, but they.
40:47It's why, it's why I'm here.
40:48Right.
40:49Yes.
40:50I worked every single day on this.
40:51No, no, no.
40:52I worked every single day on this.
40:53I didn't, I didn't, I didn't waste one day of my time or one minute of my time.
41:10And two, not to put it on her because when she said it, I was thinking the same.
41:15I'm like, damn, these jeans look good as hell.
41:19Not one time.
41:20Yeah, they're.
41:21Yeah, yeah, and they're beautifully made, you know, no doubt.
41:24Yes, it does look really perfect.
41:27Yeah, it's perfect.
41:28This is Bryant Park.
41:30Yeah.
41:31Yeah, it's perfect.
41:32It's about design.
41:33It makes me pissed.
41:34It makes me sad because I know what I've done in order to get to this level.
41:39I had a feeling that I felt I needed to express.
41:42And now you know what it is.
41:45All right.
41:46All right.
41:48Yeah.
41:50I'm not going to apologize for bringing it up.
41:57That's what I'm not going to do.
42:00It's sort of pitiful, you know.
42:02She figures that if anyone does better than her, then they must be cheating.
42:07It's crazy.
42:08I just don't get it.
42:09Who cares what you think?
42:11Jeffrey's reaction.
42:12It's not the reaction you would expect from Jeffrey.
42:16I would have accepted him to say, you know, hey, what the hell, bitch?
42:21I made this stuff myself.
42:22Shut up.
42:23Are we ready?
42:24Hopefully, um, there won't be, you know, horrible tension in the workroom.
42:25All right, let's go work.
42:27I started my business by sewing hundreds of one of a kind pieces for celebrities.
42:28I can't sew perfectly.
42:29I can't sew perfectly.
42:30I can't sew perfectly.
42:31I can't.
42:32I can't.
42:33I can't.
42:34I can't.
42:35I can't, however, sew more than perfect when I have all my own time to do it.
42:37I can't.
42:38I can't.
42:39I can't.
42:40I can't.
42:41I can't.
42:42I can't.
42:43I can't.
42:44I can't.
42:45I can't.
42:46I can't.
42:49I can't.
42:52I started my business by sewing hundreds of one of a kind pieces for celebrities.
42:57I can't sew perfectly, really quickly.
42:58I can, however, sew more than perfect when I have all my own time to do it on.
43:09Hey, everybody.
43:10Hi.
43:11Hello.
43:12Hi.
43:13John Burke.
43:14I need to have a little talk with you.
43:19Why don't you have a seat?
43:21I want to begin this conversation by telling you everybody here is innocent until proven guilty.
43:27Some concerns have been raised about the execution of your work and whether it's really all been done by you.
43:35We need to look into this.
43:36I wanted to give you the opportunity now, before any of that happens, to declare to me whether you had extra help above and beyond what we would ordinarily let you do.
43:47No.
43:48Okay.
43:49No.
43:49I sent a vest to be pleated and I sent the pieces of the shorts to have pleating and that was it.
43:58So this all by you?
44:00Yes.
44:00Bag?
44:01Yes.
44:02And this vest, this leather vest?
44:04Yes, I did all the quilting by hand.
44:07And all the finishing?
44:09Yes.
44:09And the zipper?
44:10Yeah.
44:11To get that made would be easily $600.
44:15Well, we're going to be looking at your receipts carefully and looking into this.
44:18Thank you, Jeffrey.
44:20Uh-huh.
44:23I made the entire collection, but I'm scared to death that I'm not going to be showing at Bryant Park.
44:34Right now, I'm like walking into the dark.
44:41Next, on Project Runway.
44:43I did start the scandal.
44:45I'm friends with you.
44:46You're not friends with me and that's your f***ing problem.
44:49Laura, I mean, just crazy and stupid.
44:51May I ask you to gather around, please?
44:54We have taken these concerns very seriously and unfortunately...
44:59I cannot f***ing believe I'm here.
45:06We have this one time to prove to the world and the rest of the fashion industry that you belong here.
45:11Hello, everybody!
