00:01This is Project One Way.
00:03Fashion is my life.
00:04I'm going to win.
00:05The search for the next big fashion designer.
00:08I'm fabulously glamorous.
00:10I got mad skills.
00:1215 contestants.
00:13They are the best group ever.
00:15I'm here to win.
00:16Three finalists will make it to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:19The bitch is gonna come out.
00:21The other designers don't stand a chance.
00:23But only one can be the winner.
00:25I'm better than that.
00:26You gotta be kidding me.
00:28Who will be the next big fashion designer?
00:32I've got this in the bag.
00:33Carry on.
00:34For these 15 contestants, Project One Way is the chance of a lifetime.
00:43My name is Milan Breton.
00:44I was born in Taiwan.
00:46A lot of my inspiration comes from Hollywood.
00:48Very old movies.
00:49A period where women really, really dressed and were very stylized.
00:54The thing that will set me apart from the other designers is raw talent.
00:59You know, it's really, really bad feng shui to have fake flowers in your house.
01:06I'm Michael, by the way.
01:09My name is Michael Knight.
01:10I'm 28 years old and I'm from ATL, Georgia.
01:13The music industry is really big in Atlanta, so that was my way of striking it into the fashion business.
01:21Project One Way is my chance to become, excuse my French, a mother fashion star.
01:27Where are you from?
01:28Oh, all over.
01:29It sounds so distinct.
01:30I'm born in Taiwan and yeah, everything, so.
01:36Hello.
01:37Bradley.
01:38Nice to meet you guys.
01:39Milam.
01:40Hi, Robert.
01:41My name is Laura Bennett.
01:44My background is in architecture, but my passion is in fashion.
01:54I never dress down.
01:57I think that when you're 42 years old and you have five children, it's a slippery slope into sweatpants and a minivan, so I just don't go there.
02:07Hi.
02:08My name is Angela Kessler.
02:10I live in Ohio on a farm in the middle of quote-unquote nowhere.
02:15I think that Project Runway is going to be a platform for visibility in the fashion industry.
02:22What do people do in Ohio anyway?
02:24I've often wondered what goes on.
02:27Hi.
02:28Hi.
02:29Hi, I'm Laura.
02:30I'm Stacy.
02:31Hi, Stacy.
02:34How many fashion designers does it take to open a door?
02:37My full name is Jonathan Cain Gillespie.
02:40I am co-owner of a prom pageant boutique in Oklahoma.
02:43What is a wire hanger doing in the store?
02:46No wire hangers ever!
02:48I want to prove you can come from all different parts of the country and you can make it in the fashion world.
02:57My name is Jeffrey Sebelia.
02:58I'm 36 years old.
02:59I've been a fashion designer and I'm from Los Angeles.
03:01I have this clothing line called Cosa Nostra.
03:03I make clothes for rock stars like Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Jane's Addiction, No Doubt, Elton John, Marilyn Manson, Steven Tyler.
03:10There's more, but I can't remember them all right now.
03:12By my standards, I've had a lot of success in the industry, but I haven't reached the goal of success that I want to reach.
03:18What's your name?
03:20Vincent.
03:21I'm Jeff.
03:22Jeff!
03:28Hello, hello.
03:29Hi.
03:30My name is Keith Michael.
03:31I do menswear and I've been wanting to do womenswear, but never got around to doing it.
03:36I don't expect to win every challenge.
03:39I just expect to win in the end.
03:41Hi.
03:43Hi.
03:44My name is Alison Kelly.
03:45I'm 25 years old.
03:46I started up my own label and started selling in stores.
03:49This is a photo series that I did.
03:51I styled the shoot and designed the clothes and modeled for it.
03:54I've been running like this one-woman show with very little help.
03:58The exposure that you get from Project Runway, that could really boost my career.
04:03My name is Ulrike Herzner, but everybody calls me Uli and I actually grew up in Germany and moved to Miami Beach.
04:12That's where I'm living right now.
04:14My name is Bonnie Dominguez.
04:16I'm 31 years old and I've been in the athletic and footwear design world for the past 10 years.
04:22I had the opportunity to work with tennis star Serena Williams and designed all of her outfits.
04:27We got another one.
04:30Hi.
04:31Nice meeting you.
04:32This is crazy.
04:33You can just settle down wherever you want to be.
04:36I'm a really light sleeper, so as long as you guys don't snore, I should be good to go wherever.
04:41We have a note here.
04:43Guys, I'm opening it.
04:44Yeah, what do we got?
04:45What do we got?
04:46Designers.
04:47Welcome to your apartments, courtesy of Atlas New York.
04:49You have all been voted off.
04:51I'm kidding.
04:52It doesn't say that.
04:53Please unpack and join Tim and me on the rooftop for a celebratory toast.
04:56Love, Heidi.
04:57We're headed up to the rooftop ready to party and have a little champagne.
05:02Toast.
05:03Hi, everybody.
05:04I'm so excited to see you all.
05:19Welcome to Project Runway.
05:21This is the rooftop of your new home.
05:23This is Atlas New York, Gotham City's luxury apartment building.
05:27And I'm sure you're going to love it.
05:28And I know you're going to love this man, too.
05:30And it's Tim Gunn of Parsons, the new school for design.
05:34And he's going to be your mentor.
05:36Thanks, Heidi.
05:37Welcome, everyone.
05:38The 15 of you were chosen from several thousand designers from around the country.
05:42You are an extremely talented group, and I'm thrilled to be working with you.
05:46And I think it's a good idea if we get to know each other a little bit better.
05:49And why don't we open a nice little bowl of champagne?
05:52Okay.
05:53Yeah.
05:54That's right.
05:55Bravo.
05:56Okay.
05:57Welcome, welcome.
05:59So let's have a toast to each and every one of you and to season three of Project Runway.
06:11It's so insane.
06:12You get off the plane and you get to Atlas.
06:15The next thing you do, you're toasting.
06:17It's like, here we go.
06:18I've been doing fashion for 25 years.
06:22I did not know how to handle stress and pressure well when I ran my business in New York.
06:28It was near death for me.
06:30I stopped.
06:31I surrendered.
06:32And now I'm back cashing out of a 401k.
06:35That'll drive me to be the best designer.
06:37That's how I'm feeling anyway.
06:39I started working at Isaac Mizrahi.
06:41It was one of the best and worst experiences of my life.
06:44Did you say best and worst?
06:45Yeah.
06:46Oh, tell me.
06:47Okay.
06:48Why best?
06:49Why worst?
06:50Let's dish the dirt.
06:51Yeah.
06:52Working with Isaac Mizrahi taught me patience above all other things.
06:54Because at times I would want to drive a stake through that man's heart.
06:58The last 11 years of my life have been devoted to designing for a Barbie doll.
07:04With Barbie, you can put her in insanely, you know, sort of drag queen clothes.
07:08She thinks they're great.
07:09She loves them.
07:10Have you bonded with anyone yet?
07:11Pretty much everyone that I've met.
07:13Everyone's so lovely.
07:14I mean, they're friendly.
07:15For now.
07:16Stayed that way.
07:17My name is Stacy Estrella.
07:19I'm 40 years old.
07:21I went to Stanford University and then I got an MBA at Harvard.
07:25And after that, I started a couple of companies.
07:28One was a dot com.
07:30And I found that after doing that for several years, what I really wanted to do was get back
07:34to my passion, which really was fashion.
07:39Okay, everybody.
07:40Please come and gather around.
07:42We have a very important announcement to make.
07:45Heidi and Tim said gather around and there was a little bit of a rush in my heart.
07:49I thought, okay, this is it.
07:51You guys all settled into your new apartments, right?
07:53Yeah.
07:54How do you like your new apartments?
07:56Love them.
07:57Yes.
07:58Love it.
07:59Good.
08:00Because for your first challenge, you must use materials found in your apartment.
08:08Shut up.
08:09This first challenge, like always, is about innovation.
08:12This means that curtains, bed sheets, rugs, wall hangings, lampshades, food, furniture,
08:19all of these are the raw materials for this challenge.
08:22That was shocking.
08:23It was like, you want us to rip up our apartment?
08:26I was really excited because when I was a kid, it would have been my dream to be able
08:30to go around the house and like cut anything and make clothes out of whatever I wanted.
08:36You will create an outfit that expresses who you are as a designer.
08:40Each of you will find a black box on your bed.
08:43It contains scissors, pliers, and a laundry bag.
08:47Use these tools to source your materials.
08:49The designer who touches the object first gets it.
08:53I was irritated that the materials that we would have to use would be bed sheets and interior fabrics.
09:00I myself prefer better quality fabrics.
09:02You have 15 minutes to collect whatever you can fit into your laundry bag.
09:06And the 15 minutes start now.
09:08So good luck and I'll see you on the runway.
09:10Everyone was in such a rush that it was like cattle trying to get to a feeder.
09:29All right.
09:30I instantly knew what I wanted because I knew everything that was in that apartment.
09:46I immediately went for the fur and the sparkles.
09:49I knew if I had those in my hand, I could somehow create fabulousness.
09:54I knew immediately I wanted the cheese lounge couch.
09:59It was brown leather with top stitching.
10:02There's a strategy here.
10:04One is offensive, which is find the stuff that you need to make your garment.
10:09But then there's the defensive strategy.
10:11Taking things just because they were still there so that others didn't take them.
10:15Angela looks like she's coming from a yard sale.
10:18Everything but the kitchen sink.
10:21I just feel like there's gotta be something I missed.
10:28Oh, sweet.
10:32That was my pillowcase cover.
10:34Well, you touched it?
10:35No, it's just mine.
10:36I brought it with me.
10:37I'm a huge baby, so I travel with my own pillow.
10:41And Bradley took the pillowcase off and he's getting all excited.
10:45And I was like, that's my pillow.
10:46It was sort of irritating just to see how inappropriate people are.
10:50I don't want to live here after this.
10:52That's what you bet out.
10:53Come on, girls.
10:57I had no idea what I wanted to make.
10:58Absolutely no idea.
10:59Our work is more than cut out for us.
11:04Coming up on Project Runway...
11:05I look around the room, it says,
11:18I had no idea what I wanted to make.
11:20Absolutely no idea.
11:22Our work is more than cut out for us.
11:30Coming up on Project Runway.
11:32I look around the room, it's just a blur of remedial, intermediate bulls**t.
11:37I want to roll this thread forward.
11:39Where's the non-fitting is at?
11:40Using a basic machine is something that all the designers should know how to do, like, instantly.
11:48The challenge is to create a piece of women's wear from all of the elements of the apartment.
12:00I think everyone is having to do some serious editing of the objects they grab from the room
12:06because a hanging plant might not make it into your runway look for good reason.
12:15Hello, designers.
12:17Hi, Tim.
12:17Can I ask all of you to gather around?
12:22Welcome to Parsons, the new school for design.
12:24This is your workspace.
12:27You have until 1 a.m. tonight to finish your look.
12:32Remember to be innovative and show us who you are as a designer.
12:37We have assigned you a model for this first challenge,
12:40and that model's measurements are on your work table.
12:42One very important thing, the winner of this challenge will have immunity and therefore cannot be eliminated in the next challenge.
12:50Good luck and make it work.
12:52Good luck and make it work.
12:53Woo!
12:54Make it work.
12:58Let the drama begin.
13:00I'm completely freaking out about the time limit.
13:03I just basically want to finish a garment and I'll be thrilled.
13:06I do a ton of pageant gowns.
13:08Normally, I deal with fabrics like silk charmeuse, silk chiffon.
13:11Obviously, a rubber doormat is a little bit of a stretch for me.
13:15I am a menswear designer, so I personally have never made a dress in my life, but I know I have it in me.
13:26I probably have the best taste here, so I think it's going to be really, really hot.
13:34I know construction, like the back of my hand.
13:37I love making clothes, so I'm not really worried.
13:40I haven't figured out who this is going to be yet.
13:42I've got all the feathers around here.
13:46Trying to get at any people who have feather allergies to take them out early.
13:49Strategic.
13:53What are you doing?
13:54You'll see if it comes through.
14:02I started designing about three years ago, so it's the first time I've used industrial sewing machines.
14:08I want to roll the thread forward.
14:10Where's the knot for doing that?
14:11Using a basic machine is something that all the designers should know how to do, like, instantly.
14:17Stacy's like, man, these machines, they're just not working really good.
14:21And it's like, no, you just don't know how to use machines, so.
14:26I started having problems with the sewing machine, so I'm switching to hand sewing.
14:30Hi, everybody.
14:36Vincent.
14:39Do these pockets look too much like cartoons?
14:43I dig this with this.
14:45I think it's a crazy match.
14:46All right, look.
14:46If you believe in your own, that's fine.
14:50I don't know.
14:50Poor Vincent, man.
14:51The guy is, you know, he's obviously nuts.
14:53I'm trying to work in this crazy hat, but I don't know if it works.
14:57Well, I think the basket on its own isn't enough.
15:00I had more change.
15:03Wow, good idea.
15:04It's working.
15:10So, Jeff, right?
15:11I spent most of the time with the most difficult piece first, which is this jacket.
15:16I want to make something that isn't just different, but better than what everybody else is making.
15:22Well, I've got to get the dress, because you can't just wear a jacket.
15:25No.
15:25I don't know.
15:26I feel like this is competing with that.
15:29I just question that.
15:31All right, carry on.
15:32Let's keep doing it.
15:38I had some sewing machine problems, so I'm just putting this on so you can at least try to get some idea of it.
15:46When Tim came around, I was still in the middle of sewing a lot of the pieces, and he was very quiet.
15:54I don't know about those.
15:56Yeah, you think it's kind of trap-y?
15:57It looks like you just want to use them.
15:59You know, the other thing I could do is possibly work them into this sash.
16:03Actually, that could be quite neat, too.
16:06Oh, that's quite special.
16:12That's not a good Tim face.
16:13Don't think you have to add just to take it over the top.
16:17Okay.
16:17Yeah, you've got to make it work.
16:19Carry on.
16:20Okay.
16:20All right?
16:24Keith.
16:25What was this?
16:26This is a bed sheet.
16:27I'm playing the part of the judges.
16:31Is it so close to fabric that this wasn't really an innovation challenge for you?
16:36I know of the people that will be judging, and some of them I don't particularly respect their, you know, style.
16:44So, if they have criticism, maybe it'll be good, and maybe I'll just dismiss it.
16:50We'll see.
16:51I mean, I try it.
16:56Okay.
16:57At least try it.
17:03All right, everybody.
17:05You have an hour.
17:06Try to get the lion's share of what you need to get done, done tonight.
17:10I'll see you in the morning.
17:11I look around the room.
17:22It's just a blur of remedial, intermediate bullshit.
17:25I don't see any design in the room that inspires me, aside from mine.
17:30I think Jeffrey's garment is that sort of mistake of wanting to do too much when you really need to sort of focus on the strengths and edit out what might be weak.
17:41I'm hoping to do a second layer of this skirt, but I'm just having to kind of shift my design around recognizing the time constraint.
17:58The most important thing is just getting a finished garment so that it can be walked down the runway tomorrow morning.
18:05This was our first really long, hard day of grinding work in the workroom.
18:11We were all exhausted and ready to lay down.
18:16Hello.
18:17Damn!
18:18The room is still...
18:21Are you serious?
18:22Something told me to grab that damn comforter.
18:27Oh, man!
18:27That's so f***ed up!
18:30Ridiculous!
18:30I thought that by the time we returned to the apartment, things were going to be cleaned up.
18:37I was totally pissed off.
18:39Oh, f***ed blanket!
18:41I have no quilt!
18:43Oh, my God!
18:44I have my clothes!
18:47Man, I can't believe I trashed my bed.
18:49Is this going to be the whole time?
18:52Nothing had been changed or cleaned up, but I was so fried.
18:54I just wanted to sleep.
18:58I think it all sucks.
19:01Coming up on Project Runway.
19:03Let's look at this kooky hat, yeah.
19:05Vincent's model has this crazy hat on that looked like she was trying to get beamed up to Mars.
19:11Beautiful.
19:24I have a pretty strong feeling that I'm not going to be eliminated today, and I can't wait to meet my model.
19:32Models in runway shows are always the cherry on the cake.
19:37Going into the first elimination show, I feel confident.
19:39I have my own style, and it's very different than everyone else's.
19:44So, the rest, we'll have to see what happens.
19:46All right.
19:59The night before, Tim had asked me to maybe incorporate more stuff from the apartment into the dress.
20:07So, I put, like, a placemat on it and these little ringlets.
20:10And then I slept on it, and, like, I just couldn't wait to tear that all off and go back to the original design.
20:16Sorry, Tim.
20:20I wanted it to look like a beautiful dress.
20:23I hate it.
20:23I hate it.
20:31That jacket looks so hot.
20:34It makes me think of, like, Clara Bow or something, you know?
20:38Yeah, I'm about to glue on the glamour now.
20:42All right, here it goes.
20:43I think my work is elegant, it's restrained, it's glamorous.
20:49It's very New York.
20:50Hot glue this.
20:51I swear.
20:52You know how it comes?
20:53I do want glue.
20:53Yeah.
20:54Here we go.
20:55I needed to finish my garment so that it would be ready by the time the model arrived.
21:01Still some work to do.
21:02You think of coffee and you think gross, like, I think gross.
21:06Yeah, I think gross, too.
21:07But you look at this and you think beautiful.
21:09This looks soft and, like, it would smell like Febreze.
21:13Hi, everybody.
21:15Hello.
21:15How are you?
21:16I just want to make an announcement about the next three hours.
21:21Your models are going to be coming in momentarily.
21:24You will be going to the L'Oreal Paris makeup room, the Trésame hair salon, and use the Macy's
21:32accessory wall as well as you can.
21:34When your models come in, they are going to find you.
21:38And we're sending them in now.
21:44Welcome.
21:45Yes.
21:45Hi.
21:46How are you doing?
21:47Ken.
21:47Oh, my God.
21:49I would wear that.
21:51Okay, hold on.
21:53It's not something.
21:55I don't know what to do.
21:56Double-sided tape and lots of it.
22:00It is really, really sheer.
22:03Ay-yi-yi.
22:04The skirt was far too sheer to send down the runway.
22:07It would have been a little bit too provocative for my taste.
22:10So I'm adding just a nice little coquettish, sexy underwear that go underneath the skirt.
22:18Yeah, you know what?
22:18That's going to be fine.
22:20Okay, now let's look at this.
22:23Let's look at this kooky hat.
22:25Yeah, I like that.
22:27And I like these a lot.
22:28Let me look at these.
22:30I'm looking forward now.
22:31Vincent's model had this crazy hat on that looked like she was trying to get beamed up.
22:37To Mars.
22:40Liking those glasses.
22:41Let's go to the mirror, me and you.
22:42The hat just ruined the whole style.
22:45And I wanted to say something to him, but he was so proud of that hat.
22:49It's a last minute touch.
22:53I have to, I don't know, I should just do this, I think.
23:02I had the makeup artist do sort of a 80s new wave makeup.
23:08And then I had the stylist sculpt Jay's hair into this mohawk.
23:14I ended up being very happy with her.
23:20Now just release her hair for me and show me something what they would look like.
23:25Just, just give me, give me, give me a quick, a quick view on this.
23:34That's it.
23:37It's, it's doing it.
23:38Yeah.
23:38Oh my God, yeah.
23:44Designers, can I have your attention?
23:46Yep.
23:47This is your first runway presentation and we are ready to go.
23:53So bring your model and follow me.
24:01Coming up on Project Runway.
24:03There's a lot going on.
24:07Very unflattering fit on top.
24:09I couldn't get past the feathers.
24:11It seems a little messy.
24:13You're wondering how many drinks did she have?
24:20Hello.
24:22Hello.
24:23Welcome to the runway.
24:25As you know, in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out.
24:29There are 15 of you now.
24:31Three will make it to Olympus Fashion Week,
24:33where one of you will be named the winner of Project Runway.
24:37The winner will receive a spread in our magazine,
24:41a mentorship with Inc. International Concepts Design,
24:44a year of representation from Designers Management Agency,
24:48a brand new 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,
24:51and $100,000 to start their own line,
24:54furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
24:57Your first challenge was about innovation.
24:59We asked you to create a garment that expresses who you are as a designer,
25:04using materials found in your apartments.
25:07Let's meet the judges.
25:09First, we have top American designer Michael Kors.
25:12Hey, guys.
25:14Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
25:18And sitting across from you is our guest judge, designer Kate Spade.
25:23We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
25:27The designer with the highest score will be named the winner.
25:31The winner will receive immunity for the next challenge
25:34and cannot be eliminated.
25:38Let's start the show.
25:39The runway show was surreal.
25:50Your heart is pounding.
25:51It was amazing.
25:53My entire body was smiling.
25:55I've never had a garment go down a runway.
26:09It was, like, really, really emotional for me.
26:12It was awesome.
26:13I almost cried.
26:14I thought my dress was really the prettiest dress.
26:23Mine was, like, a real dress.
26:25All the others were costuming.
26:26Everything came together so perfectly.
26:38It was just completely serendipitous.
26:40I felt like a five-year-old on Christmas Eve.
26:50I probably changed the bottom of my dress about three or four times.
26:56But I ended up making it work,
26:58and I feel really, really good about my garment.
27:08I was concerned.
27:10I mean, I thought that maybe the art element of the design
27:13might be misperceived.
27:14I think I started shaking for the first time
27:17in probably 15 years.
27:26When I saw my garment coming down the runway,
27:29the only thing I could think of was,
27:31oh, my gosh, I hope her boobs don't fall out.
27:33But it looked great on her.
27:35I felt confident about my garment,
27:44but I never know what they're going to think.
27:46They could just think it was horrible.
27:47It was a lot more nerve-wracking
27:49than I expected it to be.
27:51All I was thinking was,
28:02I'm going to win a challenge, damn it.
28:03I'm going to have only a piece on that wall of fame.
28:06I don't want to go out on the first run.
28:18I was grooving on my thing.
28:19I thought it was cool.
28:20I set out to do something,
28:22and I got it done,
28:22and that's important to me.
28:23I was really thrilled, actually,
28:34with how everything turned out.
28:36So, after all,
28:38the hard work and stress,
28:40it was actually a reward.
28:50I was ecstatic,
28:51because I thought she just looked beautiful,
28:53and so you could see the sheerness of the skirt,
28:55and it was just so ethereal and romantic.
28:58She really just wore that dress perfectly.
29:08I was thrilled.
29:09There's not really anything that I would have changed.
29:12It came out pretty much exactly as I had hoped.
29:14When I saw my garment walking down the runway,
29:24I was really, really happy with the result,
29:27and also Katja really helped to pull it off.
29:30I think my garment is going to say,
29:42I'm a forward-thinking designer.
29:45I expect to win.
29:46I know that I'm going to win.
29:47I came to win.
29:48We've scored your designs.
30:10Will the following designers please step forward?
30:14Alison.
30:18Bradley.
30:22Angela.
30:25Kane.
30:29Milan.
30:32Bonnie.
30:34Catherine.
30:35Michael.
30:40Uli.
30:43If I have called your name,
30:46congratulations.
30:48Your scores have qualified you
30:49to move on to the next challenge.
30:52Please leave the runway.
30:53Okay.
30:53The six remaining designers
31:07have the highest
31:08and the lowest scores.
31:11One of you will be named the winner,
31:13and one of you
31:14will be out.
31:18Let's bring out your models.
31:19Let's bring out your models.
31:23I would like to start with Laura.
31:35I first would like to know
31:36just what were the materials.
31:37I mean, I'm assuming
31:38that is the color for a rug?
31:40Yes.
31:41The collar and cuffs
31:42were made from a rug,
31:43and the leaves came from a chandelier.
31:46It's chic and it's wearable.
31:48It's tailored nicely.
31:50I can kind of see you wearing that.
31:52I mean, it's a bit noisy.
31:53It is noisy.
31:54It's noisy.
31:55It's not for a wallflower.
31:56No.
31:57It's for the gal
31:57who wants to stand out.
31:58That's right.
32:02Vincent,
32:03I would have done it
32:04without the hat.
32:05I have to say.
32:07Can we see it once
32:08without the hat?
32:08Do you mind?
32:09I don't mind at all.
32:10I think, actually,
32:12the hat threw me off a little,
32:13and I don't think
32:14I even looked at the dress
32:15as much as I should have.
32:16I see it much more now.
32:18I think the hat
32:18is taken away
32:19from how cute the dress is.
32:20Did you feel
32:21the hat was innovative?
32:23Is that why
32:23you added the accessories?
32:25I felt that
32:26I am very clean,
32:28classic, driven,
32:29but I want to try
32:31to keep it interesting.
32:33Well, with the hat,
32:34you're wondering
32:34how many drinks did she have?
32:36To be honest with you,
32:37I'll tell you the truth.
32:38I was in question of the hat.
32:39I was in question.
32:41I truly was,
32:42because I was,
32:43I'm not trying to get out of this.
32:44Whatever.
32:45I'm having a good time here,
32:45you know?
32:46I just, you know.
32:47I think sometimes
32:48less is more.
32:50Perhaps you're right.
32:51Heath,
32:52the first thing I thought
32:53when your dress came out,
32:54I thought it was
32:55really well made.
32:57What is it exactly?
32:59It's bedding
33:00and home accessories,
33:02but my bag was full of stuff.
33:05And, like,
33:06these two images
33:07came into my head.
33:09Gone with the Wind
33:10and The Cal Burnett Show.
33:12My favorite episode.
33:13Okay, you know
33:14what I'm talking about, right?
33:15And to me,
33:16the innovation here
33:17is that you can
33:19be totally broke
33:20and need to go out
33:22and look totally hot.
33:24And that's what
33:25Scarlett O'Hara did.
33:26But then, like,
33:27when Cal Burnett did it
33:28in the show,
33:29she looked like
33:30she was wearing
33:30a curtain rod.
33:32And I didn't want her
33:33to look like she was
33:34wearing a curtain rod.
33:35Can I see the back
33:36and tell me
33:37about those buttons?
33:38Um, the buttons
33:39are from a duvet cover.
33:41Adorable.
33:42This looks
33:43very believable.
33:44I think it's
33:45very chic.
33:46There's no joke
33:47to it at all.
33:47Exactly.
33:48Thanks.
33:51Stacy?
33:53What is your
33:54design aesthetic?
33:55What is your
33:55personality?
33:57I mean, as a designer,
33:57I first look
33:58at the silhouette.
33:59That's very important
34:00to me,
34:00that there's something
34:01that's sensuous
34:02about it.
34:02And I made
34:03a little panty
34:05so that there is
34:05that provocative
34:06little flair.
34:08I have to say
34:08it makes it
34:09a little naughty.
34:11I never liked that.
34:12And how wearable
34:13is it?
34:13Why are you wearing?
34:14Now, do you really
34:15want people to see
34:15your big step-in briefs?
34:17That's what I'm saying.
34:17It's not really
34:17that wearable, then.
34:18People think
34:19it's a mistake.
34:20To me,
34:21it kind of looks like
34:21you ran out of time
34:23and couldn't figure it out
34:24rather than
34:25making something
34:26look believably finished.
34:28It was an ambitious
34:30undertaking.
34:31I mean,
34:31I think the idea
34:32is nice.
34:33The idea of the execution.
34:34It's the execution of it.
34:35I mean,
34:36I think it seems
34:36so it was a little
34:38a little messy.
34:39And it's a very
34:40unflattering fit on top.
34:43It fits her like
34:43the pillows are still
34:44in the pillowcase.
34:48Robert,
34:49do you want to tell us
34:50a little bit
34:50about your dress?
34:51Certainly.
34:52It's made out of
34:53a duvet cover,
34:55fitted bed sheets,
34:56and some silver
34:58wall hangings
34:58that I transformed
34:59into the straps.
35:00And it's a little bit
35:01of a Maria
35:02from West Side Story
35:03if she had
35:05like wall hangings.
35:06Can we see
35:06from the back?
35:09Mm-hmm,
35:09so pretty.
35:10The back is really
35:11I like sort of
35:12surprise details
35:13like that too
35:13where from the front
35:14coming,
35:15she's one way
35:15and from the back
35:16it's sort of a...
35:16Yeah,
35:16it's very three-dimensional.
35:17And you don't have
35:18to wear any jewelry.
35:19You're already done.
35:19You're done.
35:20Have jewelry,
35:21will travel.
35:22It's charming.
35:25Jeffrey,
35:26tell us a little bit
35:27about your outfit.
35:28I don't even know
35:29where to begin.
35:29There's a lot going on.
35:30There's a lot going on.
35:31You're like,
35:32I don't even know
35:32where to begin.
35:33Start with the outer layer
35:33and work your way down.
35:34There's a lot going on.
35:35Start with the feathers.
35:36I was a production designer
35:37for a long time.
35:38I like shows.
35:39I love putting on shows.
35:40I actually think
35:40the feathers,
35:41strangely enough,
35:42distracted from the outfit.
35:43Absolutely distracted.
35:45I feel like
35:45both pieces together,
35:47there was a lot going on.
35:49I started in this business
35:52making jackets.
35:54So I thought,
35:55I'm going to make
35:56a motorcycle rock and roll
35:57cut jacket.
35:57And I wanted to show you all
35:59a dress,
36:00doing this reconstruction.
36:01It was a very destructive thing.
36:03To see the dress
36:04without the jacket,
36:06I have a better understanding
36:07of what you were going for.
36:08Together,
36:09it made it seem messy.
36:10Yeah, together,
36:10it was like,
36:11I couldn't even tell
36:12what it was,
36:12to be honest with you.
36:13There was a lot
36:13of different lengths.
36:15In the front,
36:15it was really long.
36:16It was shredded,
36:17short in the back.
36:18I just think that's sexy.
36:19I kind of like,
36:20from the side,
36:21I really,
36:22and it's the reason
36:23I did her hair this way,
36:24I just kind of,
36:26maybe some subconscious
36:28influence of animation
36:30that I'm into
36:31or whatever it is,
36:31but when I looked
36:32at the design of it,
36:33I just really liked
36:34the way it looks.
36:35You had to explain a lot
36:36for us to understand
36:37what it all meant.
36:38I had a lot going
36:38through my head.
36:40I think you have to be careful.
36:41If you do put a lot
36:42of layers into the clothes,
36:44which obviously you do,
36:46you don't have to go in
36:47for the overkill.
36:47Okay, we've heard
36:51what you had to say.
36:52We're going to have
36:53a little chat,
36:54and then I'm going to call you
36:55back onto the runway.
37:10My favorite was
37:12Keith and Robert.
37:15I mean, I will say that,
37:16you know,
37:17Robert's dress
37:18I thought was very charming.
37:20The back was really pretty.
37:21Really, like, modern.
37:23And it fit amazing.
37:24It fit beautifully.
37:25The necklaces were heaven.
37:29Keith's overall presentation.
37:32The hair with the beads.
37:33The whole thing.
37:34I love the buttons in the back.
37:36The minute she turned
37:37the corner,
37:37she turned you on.
37:38It was emotional.
37:43So let's talk about Laura.
37:45Oh, I love that coat.
37:46Yes, she thought about it.
37:48It was her personality.
37:49She did get creative.
37:51You see the rug.
37:52The funny thing is,
37:53as soon as she walked out,
37:55I said,
37:55oh, that's so her.
37:56Yeah.
37:59Vincent.
38:00I have to say,
38:01when I walked out,
38:02I kind of,
38:02the hat took me
38:03so off,
38:04I think I focused more
38:05on how much
38:06I didn't like the hat.
38:07When he said,
38:07well,
38:08I was afraid
38:08it would be boring.
38:09You've got to just go for it.
38:11Because he ended up
38:11sticking that crazy basket
38:13on her head.
38:18Stacy's.
38:18It was all over the place.
38:20Her idea,
38:20I kind of understood
38:21where it was going.
38:22It could have been very pretty.
38:23I just don't think
38:23she executed it well.
38:24It looked like
38:25she took the white sheets
38:26from her bed
38:27and just,
38:27I mean,
38:27yes,
38:28she didn't.
38:28She took the shower curtain,
38:29but I couldn't really tell.
38:31They had a big boy short
38:32underneath.
38:33It's like,
38:33oh yeah,
38:33you're alluring.
38:34Wearing your grandma's panties.
38:39Jeffrey.
38:40First,
38:41when I saw him,
38:41I was like,
38:42oh no,
38:42we have another Santino,
38:43someone that does everything
38:44shredded and undone.
38:47I mean,
38:47I have to say,
38:47when I initially saw it,
38:48I thought it seemed
38:49just messy.
38:50I never understand
38:51this whole thing
38:51about dresses short
38:52in the back
38:53and long in the front.
38:53No,
38:54I didn't get that either.
38:57We know what we're doing?
38:59Yep.
39:00Let's call them back out.
39:09The six of you
39:10will present
39:11the best and the worst.
39:15One of you
39:15will be named the winner
39:16and one of you
39:19will be out.
39:27The six of you
39:28will present
39:28the best and the worst.
39:30One of you
39:31will be named the winner
39:32and one of you
39:34will be out.
39:37Laura,
39:38you're in.
39:41You can leave the runway.
39:50And now for the winner.
39:51You also will have immunity
40:06for the next challenge
40:07and cannot be eliminated.
40:09You can leave the runway.
40:16This was the first dress
40:17that I've ever made
40:18and I won.
40:20It's cool.
40:22Come on.
40:23Give it up.
40:29Robert.
40:31You're in.
40:37Vincent.
40:38You're in.
40:39You can leave the runway.
40:40You can leave the runway.
40:52Stacy.
40:54Jeffrey.
40:55One of you
40:55will be out.
41:01Jeffrey.
41:02You tried to do too much.
41:05The result was distracting
41:06and unfocused.
41:08And the two pieces
41:08did not go together.
41:10You can leave the runway.
41:14Stacy.
41:15You didn't choose
41:17innovative materials.
41:19You could have saved it
41:20with execution,
41:21but you failed there too.
41:32Stacy.
41:34You're out.
41:37Jeffrey,
41:37that means you're in.
41:39You can leave the runway.
41:40You can leave the runway.
41:47Stacy.
41:48Bye.
41:48Auf Wiedersehen.
41:50Bye.
41:56My own feeling was
41:57the design that I made
41:59was absolutely true
42:01to who I am
42:01as a designer
42:02and that's what I wanted
42:03to send down the runway.
42:04Somebody had to go
42:05and it was really tough.
42:07Stacy,
42:09you need to go up
42:09to the workroom
42:10and clean up your space.
42:11What's next for Stacy
42:12Estrella?
42:13I don't know.
42:14Bye.
42:14Bye, Stacy.
42:15Bye.
42:15I believe that
42:17there are no accidents.
42:19Every experience you have
42:20takes you to the next one
42:21and you don't always know
42:23what doors it's going to open.
42:25This season on Project Runway.
42:30Are you guys ready
42:30for your next challenge?
42:31Oh, my God.
42:36Don't worry.
42:37Let's go.
42:38Let's go.
42:40Not this morning.
42:41Keith,
42:42he's really just become
42:43a major head.
42:45You're responsible
42:45to fix it.
42:46Take your macaroni art
42:48and go home.
42:49It has nothing to do
42:49with whether I like it or not.
42:50Shut up.
42:51I don't understand
42:51why these people
42:52can't get along.
42:56Yeah.
42:56It's going to be hot.
42:57I will screw up.
42:58Kiss me.
