00:01Previously on Project Runway,
00:03this next challenge will decide which three of you
00:06will make it to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:08We want you to create an outfit of your choice.
00:12I'm just confused.
00:14I definitely was having a major brain freeze.
00:17Don't bore Nina.
00:19Uh-oh.
00:20I'm just gonna start all over.
00:25Congratulations, Uli.
00:28You are going to Olympus Fashion Week.
00:32Laura, you're in.
00:33That means you are going to Fashion Week.
00:38You're both in.
00:43All four of us are going.
00:49This is Project Runway.
00:51Fashion is my life.
00:52I'm going to win.
00:53Fifteen contestants.
00:55I'm fabulously glamorous.
00:57You have mad skills.
00:58But only one can be the winner.
01:00I'm better than that.
01:01You've got to be kidding me.
01:04For these fifteen contestants,
01:05Project Runway is the chance of a lifetime.
01:07We have a final four this year.
01:21Congratulations, Uli, Michael, Jeffrey, and Laura.
01:26Are you all excited?
01:27Yes.
01:28Good, because for your final challenge you will be designing twelve looks for Olympus Fashion Week.
01:34We're giving you a budget of eight thousand dollars in two months to put it together.
01:41You also will be using your models from the last challenge.
01:45The winner will receive a spread in Elle magazine,
01:47a mentorship with Inc. International Concepts Design,
01:51a year of representation from Designers Management Agency,
01:55a brand new 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster,
01:59and a hundred thousand dollars to start their own line,
02:02furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
02:06Got it?
02:07Got it.
02:08Okay, you have your challenge.
02:10And now I have a special guest.
02:21Tim Gunn!
02:22How are you?
02:23Tim on the runway!
02:25So, designers, you're going to be showing before the largest and most influential crowd in the fashion industry.
02:33So do what we know you can do.
02:36Do not play it safe.
02:38Amaze us.
02:39Okay, head back to Atlas to pack.
02:42And I'll see you back in New York in two months.
02:44Okay, have fun.
02:45Thank you so much.
02:46Bye!
02:47Bye, everybody.
02:48What are we gonna do now?
02:49We're heading off into the sunset.
02:50For two months!
02:51We can go on a holiday, you and I.
02:53That would be lovely.
02:59I'm not just efficient at sewing, I'm efficient at packing.
03:02The opportunity to move another level forward with Bryant Park is going to be such a career opportunity.
03:10I don't think it's necessarily daunting, the idea of having to produce a whole line.
03:15I mean, I've produced a whole line of kids.
03:17Why can't I produce a whole line of dresses?
03:19Atlas, you've been good to us.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Ah!
03:24This is it.
03:25This is it.
03:26You know what?
03:27I'm walking home.
03:28She's really walking home.
03:29Winning of the last challenge definitely makes me more confident to go to Bryant Park.
03:38People think I'm like just going with the flow and I'm enjoying the ride, but maybe I'm the one who's gonna end up on top.
03:46The journey, the roller coaster up and down, it was all worth it.
03:49I'm here.
03:50I'm going to Bryant Park.
03:51My is gonna be the bomb.
03:52Do know that.
03:53It will be hot.
03:54And it will be Michael Knight.
03:55I'm out for blood.
03:56I gotta win.
03:57Au revoir.
03:58Peace.
03:59I've made it to Bryant Park and that's what I came for.
04:04All this effort was more than worth it.
04:07The opportunity to make a collection that I want to see walk down the runway is my dream and that feels really good.
04:16Bye, Atlas.
04:17Yeah.
04:18I'm traveling to check on the collections of our four finalists.
04:37First is Michael Knight who's working on his collection in Atlanta.
04:44How are you?
04:45I'm great.
04:46How are you?
04:47I'm great.
04:48How are you?
04:49I'm great.
04:50Good to see you.
04:51Good to see you too.
04:52Come on in.
04:53Wonderful.
04:55So do you.
04:57Tim Gunn finally arrives.
04:58It was like seeing an old friend.
04:59By the way, I'm a brace face now.
05:00You see, I have braces now.
05:01So let me just, America have braces.
05:03So, you know, you can just call me Brace Face.
05:07This is an adorable house.
05:09Thank you so much.
05:10I love it.
05:11How long have you been here?
05:12For about two years now.
05:13Okay.
05:14Well, this is my office slash work room here.
05:16This is where I do my work.
05:17Nice.
05:18My little sewing nook.
05:20Great.
05:21This is where I live.
05:22This is where I work.
05:23So where's your collection?
05:24I can't wait to see it.
05:25Here.
05:26I have a couple of pieces here and I actually set up everything.
05:29Can we take everything out in the living room?
05:30Yeah, yeah, yeah.
05:31Let's go.
05:32So I think we'll have more room.
05:33So here we are.
05:34My collectione.
05:35Great.
05:36So how far along are you?
05:38I'm definitely, I'm still in the early beginning stages.
05:42I've just started maybe a week and a half ago.
05:45My collection, I call it a street safari basically.
05:49Okay.
05:50I don't know.
05:51I just really started with this look here.
05:54And it's pretty much like a dress in a safari style jacket.
05:58From there, everything else came with it.
05:59I wanted to kind of keep the palette somewhat neutral, but kind of with splashes of color.
06:04It's great.
06:05Yes, exactly.
06:06And then as I started to design it, it almost, some of the pieces have a slight 70s feel
06:12to it.
06:13This is that first piece here.
06:14Yeah.
06:15It's done.
06:16I like these details.
06:18This is nice.
06:19I think it's a great place to begin.
06:21So what else do you have?
06:22I have a couple more pieces I can show you.
06:24Yeah.
06:25I want to see them.
06:30I'm going to tell you I'm having a conflict here.
06:32I want you to make sure that this collection is cohesive because I'm not seeing it right
06:37now.
06:38What's happening with this rear end?
06:39I don't know.
06:40That's what I'm saying.
06:41I'm not good with zippers.
06:43I think you need to shorten it.
06:44Okay.
06:45Tim suggested that I make my collection a little bit more cohesive.
06:49I have just a little less than a month left and I only have three looks completed.
06:56I don't want to fret over it.
06:59So, you know, I'm going to continue just to do what I do and make it work somehow.
07:03So just do it.
07:04Get to work.
07:05I love it.
07:06Okay.
07:07So, this is all my stuff.
07:08I love your feedback.
07:09And my parents are actually going to meet us at my cousin's house.
07:12We're going to have dinner.
07:13Great.
07:14I'm going to cook dinner for you.
07:16I'm a great chef.
07:17I can cook really, really good.
07:18Hey, Tim.
07:19This is my father, Michael.
07:20Hi, Mike.
07:21Nice to meet you.
07:23How are you?
07:24How are you?
07:25You too?
07:28You look great.
07:29Why, thank you.
07:30It's important for Tim to meet my family just because I just want to show him, you know,
07:38what I came from.
07:39Basically, I am an army brat.
07:42So, I lived and grew up, like, everywhere.
07:45I lived in Oklahoma, Texas, New York, and a host of other states.
07:50One day, I think I was maybe, like, nine or ten, I just pulled out some lined paper and
07:55my big fat jumbo Crayola markers and just started to sketch.
08:00It really was God-given.
08:01My family, my mother, my father have had my back since day one.
08:05My wife and I say, he's going to be a beautician.
08:08We see it.
08:09That's pretty much the way he's going to go.
08:11But he did a turn on us.
08:12He's so lucky to have your support.
08:15Never once did I say, Michael, you don't want to do this.
08:20I love him.
08:21They've always called me the star of the family.
08:24They're my motivation.
08:25I really want to win to make them proud.
08:28Father, we thank you right now.
08:29And we're just so honored to be a part of this great feat for Michael.
08:34We ask right now, God, that you will continue to watch over him.
08:37Amen.
08:38Amen.
08:39I'm really ready to go to Fashion Week and win this show.
08:42Oh, I hope I don't eat those words.
08:43No, I'm going to win.
08:44I'm going to win.
08:45I'm going to win.
08:46Got to think positive.
08:47Um...
08:50This is so good.
08:58Next up is Laura Bennett, who's been working on her collection in New York City.
09:05Laura?
09:06Yeah.
09:07Hi, it's Tim Gunn.
09:08Oh, this is so exciting.
09:09Come up.
09:14Hello.
09:15I'm so thrilled to see you.
09:17It was great to see Tim again.
09:19Um, sort of a friendly, familiar face.
09:22But you look fantastic.
09:23I've been very busy.
09:24I know you have.
09:25So I haven't had much time to whine about being proud.
09:28This baby is a boy.
09:30It is my fifth boy in a row.
09:33What are the chances of that?
09:35Probably about the same as making it on Project Runway.
09:38It certainly hasn't slowed me down at all.
09:40Wow.
09:41What space?
09:42It's a great space for New York.
09:44And it's a great space for the kids, because they have a lot of room to run and play.
09:48And I have some pictures, some funny pictures I wanted to show you.
09:53Here's my grandmother.
09:54She was a painter.
09:55And I spent a lot of time with her as a child, sewing and painting and making little sculptures.
10:00It's in the blood.
10:01I lived in New Orleans most of my life.
10:03My mother worked as a sewing teacher.
10:06Oh.
10:07And I learned to sew from her.
10:09And that's definitely been influential in the sewing work that I do now.
10:13Well, can I show you my collection?
10:14I'd love to see, yeah.
10:15Let's see.
10:16I've been working very hard.
10:17I'd love to see.
10:18It's divided into four groups.
10:20Laura, what can all of you have done?
10:22I know.
10:23Well, nothing is finished, but what I wanted to do is get something going on each environment
10:28so that we had something to discuss.
10:31This one is a simple jersey gown, but the embellishment happens on the inside.
10:36Beautiful.
10:37So, from the outside, it looks kind of quiet and demure, and then when she moves, you get
10:42that sort of sparkle.
10:43I really thought that I needed to do a collection that was about
10:47me and some of my signature moves and take it all to a new level.
10:53I thought that evening wear would put on a better show.
10:56Where do we go next?
10:57The last group.
10:58I love these, and I see perfectly how they fit in and how the transition can work.
11:04Mm-hmm.
11:05But you know, I gotta tell you something.
11:07You're gonna have to really youth this up in the styling, as it could go old.
11:13Yeah.
11:14This one, the green is...
11:17It's all out there.
11:19It's a lot of look.
11:20I guess this is where I was trying to take a risk for that kind of final piece and go
11:24out of my kind of comfort zone.
11:27But I just think in order to win this competition, I can't be safe.
11:31I really want to win this competition.
11:35I surprised myself how competitive I've become.
11:38I don't want my friends to say, that was beautiful.
11:40You should have won.
11:41I just really want to win.
11:43Here's my question.
11:44I'm gonna be perfectly want.
11:45Is this even pretty?
11:46I am not certain it is for me.
11:49Hmm.
11:50Hmm.
11:51On the one hand, you have achieved a miraculous amount of work.
11:56At the same time, you've got a lot to think about.
11:59Yeah.
12:00A lot of the work that I have left to do is handwork.
12:02Yeah.
12:03Very tedious.
12:04The boys.
12:05Speaking of the boys.
12:06Wow.
12:07What timing.
12:08Did you say hello to Tim?
12:09Hey.
12:10How are you?
12:11What's that?
12:12What is it?
12:13Turtle poop.
12:14Ew.
12:15Sorry.
12:16I don't think I went any turtle poop.
12:17I'm drawing the line of the turtle poop.
12:18My littlest one offered him turtle poop.
12:19Maybe that was sort of an olive branch to sort of offer Tim the turtle poop.
12:32The turtle poop.
12:33Where's the turtle?
12:34Yeah, where's the turtle?
12:35Alright, let's find Frank everybody.
12:36Alright, we're missing a turtle.
12:37Hopefully he didn't go out the stairs.
12:39I don't know where he is.
12:40Alright, well, he'll show up.
12:41Hi, how are you?
12:42Hi Peter, nice to see you again.
12:43Good to see you.
12:44How are you?
12:45Great.
12:46Good.
12:47I've been here with you and the kids.
12:48How long have we all been together?
12:4930 minutes?
12:50I'm already exhausted.
12:51How do you do all this?
12:52If we don't have this, we go, wait, it's too quiet.
12:53Yay!
12:54There's Frank.
12:55It's a good looking tortoise.
12:56Raising five children, I've never really been able to get any of my personal design work
13:02off the ground because I've never had the money to start a business and take it to the next
13:09level.
13:10So hopefully, the winning Project Runway will do that for me.
13:13Congratulations on the company.
13:14I've never really been able to get any of my personal design work off the ground because
13:17I've never had the money to start a business and take it to the next level.
13:21So hopefully, the winning Project Runway will do that for me.
13:26Congratulations on the collection and you're going to bring it all together.
13:36Yeah, we'll make those tough decisions.
13:38I've been fortunate that my family has really sort of gathered around me and really driven
13:42me to want to succeed and take this whole thing.
13:45I want to take those other designers down.
13:51Coming up on Project Runway.
13:53I'm completely in awe of what you're doing with these zippers.
13:57Awesome.
13:58How was your life, Jeffrey?
13:59Are people pouring eggs at you?
14:01I didn't jump up off the sofa when Jeffrey came in.
14:08Next, I'm traveling to see Uli Hersner, who's been working on her collection in Miami.
14:19Hi, Tim.
14:20How are you, sweetheart?
14:21How are you?
14:22I'm so thrilled to see you.
14:23I'm so thrilled to see you.
14:24Nice seeing you again.
14:25Solution out here, but that's the dream of a man.
14:27Wow.
14:28Thanks, huh?
14:29That's incredible.
14:30This is just fantastic.
14:33Yeah.
14:34That's why I do all these tropical dresses.
14:39I understand it.
14:40A lot of my inspiration comes from Miami and the living down here and the weather and
14:45the water and the colors here and the people's lifestyle.
14:49So I'd love to see the collection.
14:51My collection of the theme is going to be like safari, tropical safari things.
14:56I want to do dresses.
14:58This I started with.
15:00It's beautiful, but that isn't enough to win.
15:03I'm worried about the judges saying you're in one note.
15:06What about this collection is going to surprise them?
15:10This one?
15:11Yeah.
15:12This is beautiful.
15:13And I love it with that.
15:14And it goes back into kind of the safari thing.
15:17Yeah.
15:18Oh, definitely.
15:19With the bone.
15:20I'm glad you like that.
15:21Typical.
15:22I love it.
15:23So I have my 12 pieces.
15:24I know what I want to do, so I just have to do it now.
15:27But that took a long time to figure out what I wanted to do, actually.
15:31But now that you have and you're there, you know you can just move forward and not really
15:36think anymore.
15:37Just make.
15:38So maybe it would be good for us to clear out of your studio space and go somewhere and
15:43have a just talk.
15:44Yeah.
15:45Let's go to the beach because I get a lot of inspiration from the beach and the pantries.
15:51This is amazing.
15:52Yeah, this is beautiful and vast.
15:54I just like it.
15:55Let's go on there.
15:57Yeah.
15:58This is just so different from Germany.
16:02Oh, yeah.
16:03The big, big, big difference.
16:04Were you dreaming about living in a climate like this?
16:07Actually, when I was little, I could see a Miami Vice when I was a little girl.
16:12I would always see Miami Vice and I was dreaming of the pantries and the beaches and the water
16:17and then I ended up here.
16:19You have it now.
16:20I have it.
16:21Growing up in East Germany, we didn't have much.
16:24If you don't have things, you make things.
16:26That's what I learned there and I started making clothes very early, I think, when I
16:30was eight.
16:31I also grew up with not much color.
16:33That's why I want to show more life and color and movement in my clothes.
16:39I knew you grew up in Germany, but I didn't realize that you grew up in East Germany.
16:43It was really dangerous.
16:44Yes.
16:45You would get shot or, like, would go to jail.
16:47It doesn't matter how old you were.
16:48Terrible penalties.
16:49I was always thinking of a way how to get out.
16:52And then all of a sudden, it opened overnight.
16:55I mean, I really lived that dream, what you say, if you come to America and maybe you're
17:00nobody and maybe you can make it in quite a short time.
17:03And I think I'm almost there, I might be there, which is kind of a dream thing, which
17:09wouldn't happen in another country.
17:11I don't think it would have happened in Germany.
17:13It's a weird feeling coming from a small town in Eastern Germany.
17:18And now being the big star in New York Fashion League, but surprises happen.
17:22And I think that's why everybody comes to this country, because things can happen.
17:27And now I can see it's really true.
17:30Dreams can come through here.
17:32And finally, I'm visiting Jeffrey Sebelia, who's working on his collection in Los Angeles.
17:51Hey, how are you?
17:52Good.
17:53Good, good, good.
17:54Great to see you.
17:56I was excited that Tim was coming, but also really nervous, because throughout the show,
18:00it didn't feel like I convinced Tim of what my point of view was.
18:04Hi, Tim.
18:05Got to give you a kiss.
18:07How are you, Melanie?
18:08I'm so good.
18:09And this has got to be Harrison.
18:10Hi, Harrison.
18:11I met Melanie through some mutual friends a couple of years ago, and we fell in love
18:16immediately.
18:17And five months after we got together, Melanie got pregnant.
18:21Congratulations on this little guy.
18:23I always say it's Jeff's best design.
18:26We just feel lucky.
18:28Having a baby, having Harrison has opened my heart up more than I could ever have imagined.
18:32I love him more than I love anything.
18:35Anything or anyone.
18:37Aren't you pleased you're not living and designing in the same place?
18:41I was.
18:42I started making clothes in my living room here.
18:45I was having to make things around the clock.
18:47I literally worked from six in the morning until like two the next morning.
18:50It just took off immediately.
18:52Whatever success I have now as a designer, any success is due solely to the fact that
18:57I'm sober.
18:59I was born in L.A.
19:01My dad left us when I was eight, but when he was around, he was a really scary guy with
19:07a lot of rage.
19:08You know, I sort of blamed myself for his leaving.
19:11I was just a very damaged child.
19:14I got into drugs really young.
19:16It's really hard on my family.
19:18About five years ago, I had been on this run for four years.
19:21It was just, you know, gruesome just, you know, shooting drugs.
19:24Just whatever you can imagine.
19:26And I went to kill myself.
19:29I was going to hang myself.
19:30And this roommate that I had who was supposed to be at work, I let go from her job, came home,
19:35found me, and saved me.
19:38The next day, I called somebody for help, and I've been clean ever since.
19:44It's been almost five years now.
19:47It's amazing to have Harrison now and to think about, you know, how hard it is for me when
19:53he just falls down and starts crying.
19:55You know, I can't imagine what it's like to have one of your children turn out to be a
20:00drug addict living on the streets.
20:02Heartbreaking.
20:03So?
20:04So how have things been for you since the show started to air?
20:07Oh, uh, crazy.
20:09I was doing work developing my next season and trying to spend time with my family.
20:14Yeah.
20:15And now working on the final collection for the show.
20:17There have been several days where I just thought, God, this is a lot.
20:20More and more I want to win.
20:22You know, I really want to win.
20:24My motivation is to have a future for Harrison and to make a life that he can have and that
20:30he's proud of his father.
20:31I'm happy with the way the collection is turning out.
20:34Very happy.
20:35So let's go see it.
20:36I'd love to see it.
20:37Yeah, yeah.
20:38I'd love to see it.
20:39Cool.
20:40Bye, guys.
20:41Say bye.
20:42Take care.
20:43See you guys in a bit.
20:44Bye!
20:45I'm going down to my space in downtown LA, where my office is and also my small sewing facility.
20:50So here we are.
20:51That's a great building.
20:52Yeah, it's nice.
20:53Wow.
20:54Here we are.
20:55Look at the size of this space.
21:00So this is what I'm working on.
21:02I'd love to see.
21:03I'd love to see.
21:04Maybe we'll put this on the form.
21:05Okay.
21:06Because it's a sideshow freak, this thing.
21:10Is it?
21:10Yeah, I love it.
21:12I love it, I love it, I love it.
21:13My initial inspiration for the collection
21:15was the Japanese ghost and demon stories.
21:18Even though some of the stories are kind of childlike,
21:20they're very sophisticated and very scary at the same time.
21:23They use a lot of the color inspiration,
21:25a lot of the watercolor paintings of these kimonos,
21:28the way they're draped.
21:29I wanted to really try to personify that
21:31in this little collection if possible.
21:33I'm completely in awe of what you're doing with these zippers.
21:38Awesome.
21:39And I don't know, I mean, I'm so in it.
21:41I was sick of the whole thing three days ago.
21:44Now that's natural.
21:45You should be, because you're living with it,
21:46and it's like, oh, God.
21:48And it just goes on for so long.
21:49Yeah, it does.
21:50So then this is to fit in again
21:52with this sort of more casual story,
21:55just a really pretty halter.
21:57unexpected.
22:01Oh, cool, cool.
22:02Thanks.
22:03This is beautiful.
22:04I've got to give you a hug.
22:05Yes, thank you.
22:06I'm just so thrilled with this.
22:08Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
22:10Yeah.
22:11I hope the judges like it.
22:12Tim really likes it, which feels good,
22:14but I don't think it's at all any kind of foreshadowing
22:16about how the judges are going to perceive what I do.
22:19I'm living on borrowed time,
22:20and it's all a gift at this point.
22:24It's all just a huge gift.
22:25I'm eternally grateful for everything that I have.
22:28Man, I am back in New York City.
22:45I'm excited.
22:46This moment is actually happening to me.
22:48I can't believe it, and I'm ready for it.
22:50I'm excited.
22:53I love the collection.
22:54It's really hot.
22:55Ooh, whoa.
22:58It's nasty.
22:59It's nasty.
23:01I love my collection.
23:02It's hot.
23:07This is hot.
23:10I am exhausted because I haven't been asleep in two days
23:14just pretty much trying to finish up this collection.
23:16I feel really good about my collection.
23:26I think it's what everyone wants to see from me.
23:29I really want to win, if not for any other reason,
23:32just so that Jeffrey doesn't win.
23:34I think it's a great movie.
23:44I can't believe it.
23:44There's a great me at the door.
23:46Oh!
23:47Come on!
23:47it's great being back in new york city i couldn't wait to get here actually and to see all the
23:58designers and actually my biggest thing was just seeing how their connection came together and
24:04what i'm competing against i'm gonna surprise some of the other designers i want to win and i'm gonna
24:11win hey guys oh there she is
24:19now i'm here and uh i'm excited to be going to lipids fashion week i busted my ass and you know
24:39i've gotten everything done that i want to get done because i know that there's probably going
24:43to be some kind of surprise and i want to be prepared i'm gonna win it all car money fame
24:53and there he is
24:58how was your life jeffrey how was my life yeah are people throwing eggs at you no not at all
25:07i didn't jump up off the sofa when jeffrey came in the way i did when uli did how's life jeffrey it's
25:22really good are you superstar in l.a now it's crazy busy yeah but i haven't rested at all like three
25:28hours of sleep a night four hours of sleep a night i was just talking like two days
25:34all right good night you guys i can't handle it any longer
25:38me neither it's the four of us and you know we're all pretty confident and uh ready to go
25:44ready to bring the pain
25:46coming up on project runway
25:51it just looks sort of cartoony
25:55we all want to
25:57it's gonna be fine
25:59definitely yes
26:01today is our first full work day and it's exciting to get back in the workroom with uli
26:16and michael and even the tension that jeff tries to cause
26:19oh wow this is our workspace nice cool nice cool it's cool yeah
26:26everybody was trying to front like they weren't really trying to look at everybody's collection
26:35but i know everybody was because i'm not gonna even lie i wasn't no i'm joking
26:41you have a lot of like three-piece outfits jeffrey i have eight dresses one bathing suit and three
26:47separates it looks like you have a lot of pieces i think it's the plastic bags that add this illusion
26:54of volume too
26:57hi everybody
26:57hi too
26:58how are you good
27:00good how are you
27:01i'm great thanks
27:03designers may i ask you to gather around please
27:08welcome to your workspace courtesy of macy's
27:12first i want to congratulate each of you you are going to olympus fashion week
27:19it is the industry's biggest stage you need to think about your entire
27:24presentation this is going to be an extremely busy week and today is no exception and it's
27:29been a few weeks since i've seen each of you so i'm eager to check on your progress and jeffrey i'd
27:34love to start with you okay yes yes thanks so where are you with your progress i'm really i'm in
27:41good really good shape this is a look with the leather vest it's stunning yeah it's beautiful
27:46it's really stuff absolutely love it really is then that inspired the handbag oh yeah this is beautiful
27:53right with the zippers out of the old blazer pieces i may not even use these um i made them
28:01because i was thinking well i don't have this fabric anywhere else okay all right what else do
28:06you have left to do nothing congratulations thank you thank you it's been a lot a lot of work
28:13carry on carry on can i see you next yes of course i would like to start with this little outfit i think
28:23it goes really nice into the safari theme i'm really anxious to see these on some of your models
28:29like worried anxious more about proportion yeah than anything else about how they really work i
28:38mean in some ways i miss your prints i think i'm gonna be like what happened okay uli i'm with you all
28:46week we'll get through all this yeah i hope you see some on the girl laura can i see you next great
28:53so this is a gorgeous way to start instead of just having you know a short dress i really just wanted
28:58to go all out with this piece and then really the detailing is incredible this yoke this isn't this
29:03is amazing and you got rid of the chartreuse popsicle i got rid of thank you the color basically but
29:12this looks like a 12-piece collection yeah yeah just have details to work out yeah you'll be you'll be
29:21fine so i'm there you are there okay i am there michael when i saw you there wasn't a lot finished
29:40let's look at the rest of it this is another look a take on a safari style shirt it just looks sort of
29:47cartoony it just it looks like you were trying too hard and we've got this bling happening well
29:58here i have two thoughts one is to go over the top with this the other would be to start taking them
30:05away from these anyway you just need to pull this all together and make it look as though it all fits in
30:13the closet of the same woman okay all right it's make it work time yeah it is
30:22everybody you were each given a budget of eight thousand dollars and i'd like to collect the receipts
30:27before i leave today cool great thank you jeffrey you have yours yeah just making sure i have sketches
30:35in here i had it all together okay so i just gotta
30:45so designers i will see you a little later all right all right we'll check back with you
30:50okie dokie thank you thanks tim
30:52tim questioned my collection i would rather go way over the top than not to do anything at all
31:05because it would be a boring show yeah let's have to rework those things and um i'll be golden
31:11the main thing is basically the model fitting you have to pick the right girl for the right outfit
31:17that can either make the outfit or it could be your downfall
31:25hi hi all right we need you to walk for us
31:33we had our model casting today which i was really excited for like this is the fun stuff i really wanted
31:39a really really strong walker i was thinking about the individual dresses that i have and what sort
31:48of requirements i have to make those dresses look the best that they possibly can
31:56how are you hey can you pull your hair back for a minute my biggest concern was you know getting the
32:04models getting the right size and shape models getting the right skin tone on the models their walks
32:12i know who you are yes
32:14she's michael's i just like them hello hello how are you hi good to see you again after we did the
32:42model choosing we had our first consultation for hair it's a feeling of but modify it to each
32:49model so they look their prettiest i really want big roller set hair what you want is you want the
32:57hair to bounce and move yeah love it so i see you brought the look with you i brought the look i chose
33:03the wigs because they're all the same i want the girls to sort of be a blank slate for the clothes we
33:09could have this really clean hard edge here and then keep all of this kind of soft yeah i want her
33:18to look natural but pretty there's some softness a little bit of flyaway texture okay well i'm excited
33:26me too i will see you in olympus fashion week yeah
33:40i was really anticipating getting to the workspace because i can't wait to see the models and to start
33:45fitting my pieces on them and this is when it all comes together are we ready to go good
33:55it's amazing are we going without jeff oh there you go right here
34:06what's going on congratulations thank you how comfortable are you with swimsuits i have a
34:13swimsuit do you wear those hi how are you all right i have this one dress that needs some boobs
34:21hi hi it's cute on her huh lara i'm jeff nice to see you jeffrey hasn't had a lot of alterations
34:33to do for the models that he's fitted today and a lot of his dresses are very full at the bottom so
34:37if once it's a much easier sort of dress to fit and then i'm gonna attach that but no you're perfect
34:44i understand that there's not alterations to do but the fact that every hook every seam is finished
34:51every hem is done it's just it just doesn't seem possible awesome yes coming up on project runway
34:59how can it be that he doesn't have a single hook to put on that's true i just doubt that he actually
35:04had the time to execute those garments in the time we were given we're going to consult with
35:14call your strong from l'oreal paris to start working on our makeup looks hey good for the
35:23makeup i was thinking of something more muted like a block of a more animal like you really look like a
35:30tiger or something the makeup a nude shiny i love the shine see the reflection that it creates yeah
35:36well you like it love it my idea was to go with a strong eye it could be interesting too and very
35:43youthful is the girls had hardly any makeup on thank you bronze chloe and then just use a lot of shimmery
35:53shadow and highlighter yeah yeah see you on tv then i guess bye
36:06i have to figure out how this whole thing now twists
36:17i've been thinking about this actually for the last two days
36:19i just don't believe that jeffrey sewed that collection himself
36:26he sat there all day twiddling his thumbs and staring at his model cards how can it be that
36:31he doesn't have a single hook to put on that's true i just doubt that he actually had the time
36:35to execute those garments in the time we were given especially when he talks about how he was also
36:42working on his own collection exactly you know i've left my house to eat twice really have no problem
36:47with jeffrey i believe it's his designs but you just don't pull craftsmanship like that out of your
36:54ass things that i'm talking about like incredible finishing on the inside of the apartments grosgrain
37:00covered seam allowances i never saw it's surely suspicious that his level of craftsmanship bumped up
37:07so far laura it's not that perfect look this is not perfect uli uli we noticed the leather jeans at
37:17first at the same time like damn those are really damn good and thoughts start going to my mind as
37:22well you know we've never seen that type of work from him before you know we're all saying the same
37:27thing the jeans look really good but we can't prove he got the thing is i think he designed all these
37:32things no i have no doubt that they're his designs no i totally know what you're saying but i think
37:38when he comes back he senses and we should say something because just yeah i'm gonna have to say
37:43something now because now this is gonna be like the big elephant in the room and everybody's ignoring
37:48like nah i don't do this at all like this this is just not what i do at all you know what michael it's
37:53not what i do either believe me when he gets back you're telling him right now exactly what i said
37:58hi everybody hi tim how are you today went pretty good but i still miss four girls but you've made
38:07decisions about who's wearing yes yes backup girls i always tried like three four outfits and because
38:13sometimes in the end things don't work out and i could go back and swap around this is gonna be my
38:19finishing dress because it's such a long dress before it was like just a little now it looks much
38:24stronger all right thank you laura how about you i'm i'm just have one left to show up you're kidding
38:32you've had 11 girls so i'm just doing you know finishing touches you know moving of a hook and a
38:38snap and you know slight adjustment to the hand and things like okay can i tell you something privately
38:44do you want to go out on the terrace um sure okay sure are you all right yeah this is gorgeous it's
38:53nice jeffrey spends a lot of time out here so speaking of jeffrey i just believe that jeffrey
39:01didn't sew his collection on his own it's a lot of work that he did in that amount of time everything
39:07is completely finished on the inside they're leather jeans that are top stitched to perfection
39:13and he never had that kind of craftsmanship before i don't doubt that it's his design that it's his
39:20aesthetic that it's his fabric i just know that he's been talking about how busy he was doing his
39:27collection for his showrooms it's nothing that i can prove it's a gut feeling i just wanted to go on
39:33record as having said i just don't believe he did all that something on his own it can be very
39:40difficult if not impossible to prove something like this but what i also want to assure you of
39:46is that i'm taking it to the producers and we will investigate this as well as we can all right thank you
39:56okay i'm going to let you all carry on get back to work and i will see you tomorrow okay okay
40:04i think some people are going to feel like i was like a total bitch to bring it up or say anything
40:10but it just didn't happen there's no way that that collection was sewn exclusively by jeffrey in the
40:15last two months coming up on project runway jeffrey laura has an announcement to make i just wanted to
40:23tell you that i told tim gunn i felt that you had outside help to finish them
40:27no absolutely not
40:54i mean i've yeah i've come on this show to show what i can do you know all right but they
41:01it's why i'm here right i worked every single day on this no no no i worked every single day
41:06i didn't i didn't waste one day of my one minute of my time
41:11and two not to put it on her because when she said it i was thinking the same i'm like damn
41:16these jeans look good as hell not one time yeah they're yeah yeah and they're they're beautifully
41:23made you know no doubt yes it does look really perfect yeah it's perfect this is brian park yeah
41:31yeah it's perfect it's about design it makes me pissed it makes me sad because i know what i've done
41:36in order to get to this level i had a feeling that i felt i needed to express
41:41and now you know what it is all right all right yeah
41:54i'm not going to apologize for bringing it up that's what i'm not going to do
42:00it's sort of pitiful you know she figures that if anyone does better than her then they must be
42:05cheating it's crazy i just don't get it who cares what you think
42:24jeffrey's reaction it's not the reaction you would expect from jeffrey i would have accepted him to say
42:30you know hey what the hell bitch i made this stuff myself shut up are we ready hopefully um
42:38there won't be you know horrible tension in the work room all right let's go work
42:51i started my business by sewing hundreds of one-of-a-kind pieces for celebrities i can't
42:57sew perfectly really quickly i can however sew more than perfect when i have all my own time to do it on
43:12hi everybody hi hello
43:17i need to have a little talk with you why don't you why don't you have a seat
43:21i want to begin this conversation by telling you everybody here is innocent
43:26until proven guilty some concerns have been raised about the execution of your work and whether it's
43:32really been all been done by you we need to look into this i wanted to give you the opportunity now
43:39before any of that happens to declare to me whether you had extra help above and beyond what we would
43:46ordinarily let you do no okay no i sent a vest to be pleated and i sent the pieces of the shorts
43:53to have pleating and that was it so this all by you yes bag yes and this vest this leather
44:04vest yes i did all the quilting by hand and all this finishing yes and the zipper so yeah to get
44:11that made would be easily six hundred dollars well we're going to be looking at your receipts
44:17carefully and looking into this yeah thank you jeffrey uh-huh
44:23i made the entire collection but uh i'm scared to death that i'm not going to be showing at bryant
44:29park
44:34right now i'm like walking into the dark
44:41next on project runway i did start the scandal i'm friends with you and then you're not friends
44:47with me and that's your problem laura i mean just crazy and stupid may i ask you to get around please
44:54we have taken these concerns very seriously and unfortunately
45:01i cannot believe i'm here
45:06we have this one time to prove to the world and the rest of the fashion industry that you belong here
