00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:03For your next challenge, you will choose a work of art
00:06to serve as the inspiration for a look of your choice.
00:14This is every designer's dream.
00:16John Rivers carved her initials in here
00:18when she was a little girl.
00:22Julian's been pressing for three hours.
00:25I feel self-conscious enough as it is.
00:27Ew, don't get bitchy.
00:29I'm a little bit worried.
00:31This is what determines who's going to Fashion Week.
00:33Sweet Pea, your model's late.
00:35If my dress isn't finished, for sure I'll get eliminated.
00:43Congratulations.
00:44Christian, this win guarantees you a spot
00:47at New York Fashion Week.
00:50Jillian, you are also guaranteed a spot
00:53to show at New York Fashion Week.
00:56Sweet Pea, you're out.

01:05And I wanted to go.
01:07Chris, you're in.
01:10Rami, you're also in.

01:34furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
01:36This is Project Runway.
01:37Let's go.
01:38Hell yes, I'm the best.
01:39You're either in or you're out.
01:40I'm in.
01:41They're out.
01:42I would be caught dead in his clothes.
01:43Fashion is my life.
01:44Who will be the next big fashion designer?
01:45That's me.
01:46Bottom line, I'm the best.
01:47I will own the runway.
01:48For these 15 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
02:09Hi.
02:10Hi.
02:11Congratulations for making it this far.
02:13For your next challenge,
02:15you'll be creating a collection of 12 looks for Fashion Week.
02:20We're going to give you a budget of $8,000
02:23and the next five months to put it together.
02:27Christian, Jillian,
02:29you're guaranteed spots at Fashion Week.
02:32Rami, Chris,
02:35you will create collections.
02:37When you return to New York for Fashion Week,
02:39you must show me and the other judges
02:42your three strongest looks from your collections.
02:45We will judge them
02:47and determine which one of you
02:49will move on to Fashion Week.
02:52Okay.
02:53All of you have decided to keep your models
02:56from the last challenge.
02:57Now let's bring out a familiar face.
03:03Hi.
03:04Hi.
03:05It's so unusual for me to be on the runway.
03:08And you're looking good up here.
03:11So designers,
03:12I'll be checking in with each of you in the coming months.
03:15But before I do,
03:16I want to remind you
03:17that you will be showing to the largest
03:19and most influential crowd in the industry.
03:22The world will be watching.
03:24To celebrate,
03:25let's have one final toast
03:27at the Gotham Apartments rooftop.
03:29Come on, let's go.
03:30Come on.
03:31Come, Tim.
03:32I see you there.
03:33So we have some Moet et Chandon here for you
03:38for our toast.
03:40Designers, Heidi and I are exceptionally proud of you.
03:44So here's to you and your collection.
03:46I can't wait to see what you guys come up with.
03:50So excited to one last challenge.
03:52I have a guarantee into Fashion Week.
03:54How about that?
03:55Don't play games.
03:56And I'm 21 years old.
03:57That's fierce.
03:58Project Runway season four.
04:00Here they are.
04:01And pose.
04:02And pose.
04:03And pose.
04:04And back.
04:09I really worked my ass off
04:11and I have my eye on the prize.
04:13All I can see is winning.
04:16That one's bigger than me.
04:17I know.
04:18You can take Christian home in your suitcase.
04:20If you want to come to LA,
04:21you can just hop in.
04:22I'm so excited.
04:23Bye.
04:24I love you.
04:25Love your hair.
04:26Once we thought the roller coaster was over,
04:31there was still another loop.
04:33But I learned from the judges that they want more drama
04:37and I'm very confident about what I'm capable of doing.
04:41Having to compete for the final spot at Fashion Week,
04:45I welcome the opportunity because I think I definitely deserve it.
04:49I guess I'm just going to try to do my best and see what happens.
05:01I'm traveling to check on the collections of our four finalists.
05:05First up, I'll visit Christian Siriano,
05:07who's working on his collection in New York City.
05:10Christian.
05:11How are you, sweetheart?
05:12It's so nice to see you.
05:15Great to see you, too.
05:16How have you been?
05:17I've been really good.
05:18I'm so excited for Tim to see my little place
05:21and I hope he likes my stuff.
05:23But he will because it's fabulous.
05:25This is my little room.
05:27It's like a little box, Tim.
05:29Wow.
05:30So this is your studio?
05:31This is where I sew everything on this table and cut everything.
05:34Talk about make it work.
05:35You really do have to make it work.
05:36No, I really make it work.
05:37And I sleep right here.
05:38You're kidding.
05:39No, look.
05:40This is my bed right here.
05:41And I just slip it out and it fits right there perfectly.
05:44And I sleep there every night.
05:45And my bedrooms are in my closet.
05:47My bedroom basically was the closet, I think, originally.
05:51It's so small.
05:52Yes, it's very annoying to sew in such a small space.
05:55And you have to be really organized or I would go crazy if I wasn't.
05:59So this is my sister and me.
06:01Is she younger or younger?
06:02She's actually older.
06:03She just looks very young and pretty like me.
06:05And that's my mother and my mom's boyfriend.
06:08I grew up in Annapolis, Maryland.
06:13It was kind of a small town, very preppy and naval academy.
06:17But I started working in a really trendy kind of hair salon when I was about 13.
06:22People didn't really judge as much in that industry.
06:24So I really, like, was looking for that.
06:27Felt like I fit in a little bit more there.
06:29And that kind of jump started my fashion career.
06:33So I went to design school in London for about three years.
06:36And it was the best decision of my life.
06:39Wow, you've done a lot.
06:41I have a lot, but I have so much to do.
06:44The whole kind of theme is this romantic, gothic kind of look.
06:47So it's kind of dark.
06:48Every piece is basically really a really strong look.
06:51That's like my thing.
06:53This was a jacket that I was telling you about.
06:56It's just very fitted in the waist, but it has still that kind of shape.
07:01What happens with all this volume under this very fitted jacket?
07:04It's really just a neck piece.
07:07And it's not a final decision yet.
07:08Like, it's...
07:09It's just a neck piece?
07:10Yeah, it basically sits like this and scrunches down.
07:13So it's like that.
07:14Oh, so it comes up to her nose?
07:15Right.
07:16It goes all across her face like this.
07:17I think you need to ask yourself, when do I not need something?
07:22Yeah.
07:23Is this piece hurt by not doing that?
07:25Mm-hmm.
07:26Yeah.
07:27What's this?
07:28And then this is the finale look.
07:29Now, these here are, they still need work.
07:32Um, and I'm gonna be basically finishing and sewing.
07:35But they'll be her pants.
07:42Are these amazing?
07:43What's wrong with you?
07:44This looks costuming.
07:46It looks a little costuming.
07:47And I think they're fabulous.
07:49I would hate to have you even think about losing these.
07:51Okay.
07:52They just look a little costuming.
07:55It's just a lot of look.
07:56A lot of look.
07:57Think about it.
07:58Okay.
07:59I'm kinda just taking everything in that he said.
08:02And I'm gonna think about it, but I don't know if I'm gonna change too much.
08:07You just need, at this point, to bring an editing eye to everything that you're doing.
08:11Everything.
08:12Yeah.
08:13An editing eye.
08:14I wanna win so bad, it's like something I've never wanted more in my entire life.
08:18I'll see you in fashion.
08:20Work hard.
08:21Think harder.
08:22I will.
08:23Good.
08:24Bye-bye.
08:26Bye, Tim.
08:27Take care.
08:28Next, I'll visit Jillian Lewis, who's also working on her collection in New York City.
08:35Jillian, how are you, sweetheart?
08:36Bye, Tim.
08:37I'm so thrilled to see you.
08:38Me too.
08:39What a view.
08:40This is amazing.
08:41I know.
08:42I love it.
08:43Well, this is really compelling.
08:44When I first got back from the show, I did not go back to my job at Ralph Lauren.
09:02I never really had this kind of time to go around and find inspiration.
09:07This was the first piece that I designed when I came back.
09:10Is it?
09:11Yeah.
09:12I love this detailing.
09:13Oh, my God.
09:14It took forever.
09:15I can tell.
09:16It must have.
09:17But now that it's done, it looks effortless.
09:19It's really working.
09:20It flows.
09:21The last challenge at the museum was so moving to me.
09:24So I decided to continue on in that direction, and I researched 15th century armor.
09:32Yeah.
09:33There's femininity, yet there's strength.
09:35Yes.
09:36And I liked when Michael Kors said, you know, there is a strength to what you design, but
09:40I can tell that a woman designed it.
09:42Yeah.
09:43But I feel as though your palette is a cloudy day.
09:47For me, it's I'm not getting it.
09:49Yeah.
09:50Okay.
09:51Think about it.
09:52He really had a lot of wise things to say.
09:55Now I can take this collection to where it needs to be.
09:58I feel really confident.
10:00So do you want to meet my family?
10:01Oh, I'd love to.
10:02Yeah, they're so excited to meet you.
10:03Where are they?
10:04They're in Long Island.
10:05Of course, all of the great American designers are from Long Island.
10:09All right.
10:10Michael Kors, Donna Karan, and Jillian Lewis.
10:14That's true.
10:15Hi.
10:16Hi.
10:17How are you?
10:18What an honor to meet you.
10:19Tim, it's Tim.
10:20I'm really excited to have Tim meet my family and to see the home that I was raised in.
10:35I would like you to meet Lua.
10:36He's my boyfriend.
10:37Hi, Lua.
10:38How are you?
10:39Nice to meet you, Tim.
10:40How are you?
10:41Nice to meet you, too.
10:42Congratulations.
10:44I can't believe you're in our home.
10:45Oh, I'm thrilled to be in your home.
10:46I can't believe it.
10:48So everybody keeps saying about Santa Claus coming to town.
10:51I keep saying, forget about that.
10:53Tim Gunn's coming to town.
10:54Oh, thank you.
10:55I wish I were Santa Claus.
10:57Really?
10:58Did you have any apprehensions when Jillian said I want to be a fashion designer?
11:02Before I was ever married, I saw a Claraborian woman.
11:06And she sort of told me that I was going to have three children and one was going to be famous.
11:12Well, she raised me with this idea, too, though.
11:15My mother, she really does expect me to be amazing in this life.
11:20When I was a child, growing up, I was chasing this something and trying to achieve something so much bigger than what I am.
11:28But I would not be here if she didn't push me from a very young age.
11:33Look how far she's gone.
11:35It's really true.
11:36It's amazing.
11:37I want the whole world to know who I am and to seek out the clothing that I designed.
11:42I know that everybody thinks that they're going to be the next great thing.
11:46But I really, really will be.
11:49And I won't have it any other way.
11:52Why not?
11:54I'm not.
11:55I'm not.
11:57Coming up on Project Runway.
11:58Here's the most probably provocative thing that I have going on in my collection.
12:03My gag reflex is kicking in.
12:13Next up, Rami Kashu is working on his collection in Los Angeles.
12:17Hi.
12:18How are you?
12:19It's so good to see you.
12:20Great to see you, too.
12:21Tim coming to L.A. to visit me is very exciting.
12:35Meet my fabulous dude, my best friend.
12:37Wonderful.
12:38Hi, I'm Tim Gunn.
12:39Jeff.
12:40Hi, Jeff.
12:41How are you?
12:42And this is Jen.
12:43Hi, Jen.
12:44Nice to meet you, too.
12:46To see Tim Gunn in a completely different environment.
12:49Yeah.
12:50So, Rami, your family's watching the show.
12:52Yes, they are.
12:53And how are they responding?
12:54My parents wanted me to do something like this.
12:57To take me to that sort of next level, to sort of break through.
13:00And they're very proud.
13:02And I'm very lucky to have them in my life.
13:04I was born in the city of Jerusalem.
13:06My mother was always known to be a lover for fashion.
13:09She was Miss Jordan in the 60s.
13:12She opened my eye to this sort of beautiful and colorful world of fashion.
13:18She passed away when I was five years old.
13:22It was very difficult for me to lose her at such an early age.
13:27But my father remarried when I was seven.
13:30And she is the most amazing stepmother anyone can have.
13:34But I don't call her stepmom.
13:35I call her mom.
13:36It's funny.
13:37Like, they've always known that this is what I wanted to do.
13:41And I kept it a secret for a long time from them.
13:43Because I always thought that, oh, I'm a guy.
13:46You know, it's an Arabic environment.
13:48This is something that's not very masculine, per se.
13:50So it was this, like, hidden secret.
13:52And then one time my brother walked in on me.
13:54And I've been sketching for years.
13:55I was probably like 12 or something.
13:57He grabbed the notebook from me.
13:59And he ran downstairs to my parents to show them.
14:01And I remember at that moment I was so scared.
14:03Thinking, oh, my God.
14:04What are they going to say?
14:05And they came back so amazed and so happy.
14:09And they realized that there's something here, you know.
14:11And they've been supportive ever since.
14:13It sort of started slowly throughout the years to become clear to me that this is what I'm going to do when I grow up.
14:20I want to be a designer.
14:22So, Rami, I can't wait to see your collection.
14:25I'm very excited.
14:26I'd love to show you.
14:27My studio is very close by Silver Lake, so, um.
14:30Wonderful.
14:31I'll drive.
14:32Yeah, perfect.
14:33Let's go.
14:34Jeff, it's so lovely to see you.
14:35Thank you so much.
14:36Jen, wonderful to see you, too.
14:43So, ready?
14:44Welcome to my studio.
14:47Wow.
14:48Look at the space.
14:49I really do.
14:50This is phenomenal.
14:53And this is the collection.
14:55I will have to start by telling you a little bit about the inspiration.
14:58I want to hear all about the context.
15:00It's Joan of Arc.
15:01It's a combination of construction and details that I used that resemble the fighting gear that she wore at the time, yet in a much more modern sense.
15:10So, this is the first one, and it's a cape that's going to come off, and then you have this blouse.
15:19I'm really crazy about this look, and I just, I'm speaking this way because I care enormously about you.
15:25No, of course.
15:26For me, these other pieces are looking so, in a way, kind of hammered and nailed.
15:32I don't see that, I don't feel the same softness.
15:35And then this weighs about as much as chainmail would.
15:39I mean, this is a heavy-duty effing coat.
15:43Yes.
15:44You know?
15:45I want you to pull it back a bit.
15:48He made some points that I agree with, and some other ones I want to hold off on and just take a look at the collection and decide.
15:55But in the end, I need to believe in what I'm doing.
16:00I have nothing but confidence in you, you know that.
16:02Thank you, Tim.
16:03I really, really appreciate it.
16:04All right.
16:05I am not thrilled about the whole Rami Cashew versus Chris March thing.
16:10It's just, I mean, we're probably both worrying about who's going to get the final spot.
16:13But whatever's meant to happen will happen.
16:18Bye-bye.
16:23Finally, I'll visit Chris March, who's also working on his collection in New York City.
16:27Chris, it's Tim Gunn.
16:30Hey.
16:31Hey.
16:32How are you?
16:33Come on in.
16:34Grilled.
16:35Good to see you.
16:36Good to see you.
16:37Come on in.
16:38It was great to see Tim after so long, because watching him on TV, it's like, oh, I miss Tim.
16:43Come on in.
16:44Wow.
16:45This is great space.
16:48I know I got really lucky getting this space.
16:50I love it.
16:51This is great.
16:52I think my obstacle since coming on the show has been, how does a costume designer translate
16:59their expressiveness and creativity into the fashion world?
17:03I definitely don't want to march a costume parade down the runway.
17:07But I don't want it to end up being not me either.
17:11So, what's the overall inspiration?
17:15Beauty with a cork.
17:1895% fashion and 5% costume thrown in.
17:23Alright.
17:24This is this crocheted hairpin lace.
17:28This is beautiful.
17:30It's a gorgeous color, too.
17:32Yeah.
17:33Alright, so what's happening with this?
17:34Here's the most probably provocative thing that I have going on in my collection, which
17:39is the use of human hair as trim.
17:42Really?
17:43I knew you'd have that thing.
17:46My gag reflex is kicking in.
17:48You're using human hair?
17:49It's hair.
17:50I think he was a little bit disturbed by the fact that I used actual human hair to trim some
17:57of my garments.
17:59Oh, God, it's really bad in the back.
18:02This is just...
18:04It's not...
18:05See how much more believable this is?
18:07I can take it off really easy.
18:08It's so much more believable.
18:10I can't say that I'm shocked that Tim is a little disturbed by the hair,
18:15because I figured he probably would be.
18:18You want to look at this one?
18:19Yeah.
18:20Oh, Chris!
18:22I love the hair.
18:24I can take it off.
18:26Oh, boy.
18:28I have this refrain about the monkey house at the zoo.
18:32When you first enter into the monkey house at the zoo, you think,
18:36Oh, my God, this place stinks.
18:38And after you're there for 20 minutes, you think, that's not so bad.
18:42And after you're there for an hour, it doesn't smell at all.
18:45But anybody else coming into the monkey house freshly thinks,
18:49Oh, my God, this stinks.
18:51You've been living in the monkey house.
18:53All right, I get it.
18:55Tim gave me some ideas about editing and that perhaps maybe I've been living with these looks for too long.
19:03But there's definitely still going to be some hair.
19:07I think that what you should want is for the judges to look at this work and say, we really want to see more.
19:13Right.
19:14Have them begging.
19:15Okay.
19:16So I wanted to take you over to one of my friend's houses to meet some of my friends, kind of my New York family.
19:21Oh, I'd love to.
19:22Off we go.
19:27I'm going to bring Tim over to my friend Larry's house.
19:31He's, I think, lived inside that apartment for the last 30 years.
19:35And everything you'll see in there, he's built in there.
19:38It's a big, like, Baroque Rococo nightmare.
19:42I'm so glad to see you.
19:44Heard so much about your place and I see why.
19:46You can see it.
19:47Fantastic.
19:48Great.
19:49Welcome.
19:50Oh, my God.
19:52It's Versailles.
19:53It's the Sistine Chapel.
19:54You have everything.
19:55This is staggering.
19:56I'm thrilled to be here.
19:57Thank you so much.
19:58Come in and meet my friend.
19:59My friend Nelson and my friends Ramona and Eric have basically become my New York family since I moved here.
20:08But I grew up mostly in the Bay Area and I have four older brothers.
20:15To them, being on Project Runway was just, like, another thing Chris is doing, you know.
20:21Yeah, he walks down the street in drag.
20:23Yeah, he's on TV.
20:24Yeah, we're used to it.
20:26The thing that got me really into costume was I went to a big costume contest in San Francisco and I won.
20:37And I went home and I thought, you know, I really want to do this for a living.
20:42I ended up with a very successful costume career in San Francisco.
20:46But I've always wanted to be in fashion.
20:50So I moved to New York.
20:51How do you feel about what you say of him on the show?
20:54Well, I'll be honest.
20:55I watch the show because of you and Heidi.
20:57We're crazy about him and he really does add a tremendous amount to that show.
21:04Oh, the other night and this guy comes up to me and he's holding something in his hand and I thought he was going to ask me for directions.
21:10And he flips it open and it's a police badge.
21:13And he says, excuse me, sir, you're under arrest.
21:15What?
21:16And I was like, what?
21:17And he said, for being the best designer on Project Red.
21:22Having to show three pieces and us compete for the final spot at Fashion Week, I hope that they choose me because I would love to be showing my collection at Bryant Park.
21:36The reason that I got into doing what I do is to make people happy and to, you know, add some laughter and fun into the world.
21:43And I just, I love doing it and I love that it makes people happy.
21:47He's precious.
21:48He is indeed.
21:49All right.
21:50Goodbye, Tim.
21:51Have a great holiday.
21:52Thank you so much.
21:53Bye-bye.
21:54Bye now.
21:55Well, that went pretty well.
21:57Coming up on Project Runway.
22:00Are you going to be nice to me?
22:02Are you going to be nice to me?
22:04Here's the day.
22:05And it's now.
22:06Shit.
22:20I just left Los Angeles and mixed emotions are going through me.
22:24I'm excited, but I'm nervous because I'm not sure if I'm going to actually show my collection.
22:31So it's a weird place to be.
22:45Having anticipated this three-piece, like, walk-off since the day we left, it has been quite a thing.
22:53To go from being eliminated to being back on, to being part of the Final Four.
22:58So could I possibly win?
23:00We'll have to see what happens.
23:02Wow.
23:03This is as big as my first apartment.
23:07It's very nerve-wracking being back after months and months and months of work.
23:14I think my collection is really strong.
23:22I'm pretty confident with it.
23:23I mean, I love it.
23:24I'm so fierce.
23:30Tina.
23:31You brought a plant.
23:32Are you going to be nice to me?
23:33Are you going to be nice to me?
23:34Love you, man.
23:35Love you, man.
23:36Your hair looks good.
23:37I was like, oh, God.
23:38He's fun.
23:39But he's never really, like, a huge fan of mine.
23:40So this could really turn out nasty.
23:41Who is it?
23:42Uh-oh.
23:43Hi.
23:44How are you?
23:45Come on.
23:46Bed here.
23:47And there's two beds in there.
23:48I put myself in there.
23:49So you finished your collection, like, last month, right?
23:50Or the month before?
23:51No.
23:52I just can't wait to see what everybody did.
23:53Me too.
23:54I'm so excited.
23:55I'm so excited.
23:56I'm so excited.
23:57I'm so excited.
23:58I'm so excited.
23:59I'm so excited.
24:00I'm so excited.
24:01And there's two beds in there.
24:02I put myself in there.
24:03So you finished your collection, like, last month, right?
24:06Or the month before?
24:08No.
24:09I just can't wait to see what everybody did.
24:12Me too.
24:13I'm scared.
24:19Hi.
24:20How are you?
24:21Hey.
24:22Oh, it's nice to see you guys.
24:24It was lots of fun to see everybody together.
24:28No matter what's happened, we all really like each other.
24:31And we all get along.
24:32So it was kind of like a little family reunion.
24:35Cheers.
24:39You know, people do not believe me when I say that I missed you.
24:43They're like, he's so annoying.
24:45I'm like, but he's not really.
24:47Don't worry.
24:48People say the same about you.
24:49I know.
24:50How have you been?
24:52Stressed.
24:53Really?
24:54Like a nightmare witch.
24:56I understand.
24:57You too.
24:58We're sitting there, and we're hanging out with them.
25:00Kicking back, catching up.
25:02And I'm thinking, hmm, I just wonder who's going to end up
25:06on that third bed upstairs with Jillian and Christian.
25:09Are you guys excited?
25:11No, excited.
25:12More like .
25:13We'll have to wait and see.
25:15We wake up in the morning and it's weird.
25:31We're just sort of like waiting to see what's going to happen.
25:34We don't know when the judges are going to want to see our three strongest looks.
25:38This is yours, right?
25:39Yeah, that's one of them.
25:40You know, it's like all of a sudden it all became very real.
25:45Here's the day, and it's now.
25:47Ooh.
25:48Isn't this pretty?
25:49Aw, look at this.
25:50There's only three tables.
25:51We'll share.
25:52Yeah, we'll share.
25:53I won't.
25:54Seeing that there were only three tables was a little bit chilling.
26:07That's bringing home the point that one of us won't be there.
26:11And it's like, this is really going to happen.
26:16I can't wait to see everyone's stuff.
26:18Oh, my dear Lord.
26:20I wish all of these shoes were for me.
26:25Hi, everybody.
26:26Hey.
26:27Hi.
26:28How are you?
26:29How are you?
26:30I've missed you.
26:31We missed you.
26:32So can I ask you to gather around, please?
26:33Yes.
26:34First, I want to congratulate all of you for making it this far.
26:38It's fantastic.
26:39And I just want to remind you of what an incredible and singular experience it is to be presenting
26:45your work on the largest stage in the fashion industry.
26:49Talk about a wow moment.
26:51Rami and Chris, as you know, only one of you will make it there.
26:55As Heidi said when we last parted, you must choose the three strongest looks from your
27:00collection and present them to the judges who in turn will decide which one of you will
27:04be moving forward.
27:06And you will be doing that today.
27:10We've assigned you models.
27:13You will have three hours to fit them, bring them through hair and makeup.
27:18Shoes have been generously provided by bluefly.com.
27:21And if you have any last minute alterations, we have Brother sewing stations set up for you
27:26to use.
27:27Owing to the fact that you have so much work to do in such a short period of time, I want
27:32each of you to choose a partner.
27:34One of us?
27:35Jillian.
27:36Yes.
27:37Who else could it be?
27:38Oh.
27:39Oh.
27:40We're the brother and sister.
27:43Rami and Chris, I just want you to know, regardless of the outcome of today, I am so extraordinarily
27:50proud of each of you.
27:51And I just want you to go out there and knock those judges' socks off.
27:57But just have an incredible showing, okay?
28:00All right.
28:01Ladies.
28:02Hi.
28:03Come in.
28:04Hi.
28:05Welcome back.
28:06You want to fit them, Jillian?
28:07Sure.
28:08And I guess one of you could try this one.
28:09I love this color.
28:10See, there should be one pair of, like, size 10 shoes.
28:15It was difficult to select just three pieces, but I kind of came to the conclusion I would
28:20choose from one color category, the black, because I think it was the strongest.
28:25Try nothing now.
28:26You picked your three looks, right?
28:27Yeah.
28:28Let's do a heel, and let me just see a walk in this.
28:31Back in Los Angeles, I decided that I would show three different elements.
28:36Construction, ethereal, and sort of dramatic, and then the draping.
28:41God, where's the...
28:43Sorry, I just feel like I'm all over the place.
28:45It's okay.
28:46Give me as much to do as you can.
28:47I'm, like, feeling so...
28:48It's hot.
28:49We have such a short period of time for hair and makeup to fit our models, do alterations.
28:55Jewelry.
28:56.
28:57It's a lot of pressure, I think, because it's just the anticipation of that moment, that
29:02big moment that we both waited for.
29:04How's it going, Christian?
29:06It's going good, Jillian.
29:07I miss you.
29:08Don't talk to her.
29:09I can't talk to the competition.
29:12Do you have a hand?
29:13How's the hair?
29:16It's so funny.
29:20Chris's work was very interesting when I first saw it.
29:23I had brought my brush.
29:25Did you?
29:26Yeah.
29:27It looked very innovative, and there was hair on it.
29:31He was like, do you want to brush the dress?
29:33And I'm like, mm-hmm, okay.
29:35Oh, my God.
29:36Are you joking right now?
29:38Don't get it on the floor.
29:40I picked it up.
29:42So, very clean, very tight ponytail, very slick back.
29:47Wavy and messy.
29:52Thank you so much.
29:53I would like emphasis on just the eye.
29:56Very dark and strange, like dark lips.
30:01Thank you very much.
30:03Have a good day.
30:04I think that my three looks came together really well.
30:11So, the whole idea of actually making it to Bryant Park is like, could this really happen?
30:17It's like, wow.
30:18I think it actually could.
30:20I have to adjust all this.
30:22We both have no idea what's going to happen.
30:25I have butterflies in my stomach, and I hope that I get to show in Fashion Week.
30:29But I really don't know.
30:31When you pose, then you can do this.
30:35Chris.
30:36Yes.
30:37Rami.
30:38Time's up.
30:39Okay.
30:40Yes.
30:41Off to Parsons.
30:44Coming up on Project Runway.
30:50It is human hair.
30:51Yes.
30:52It's just really unflattering.
30:56Hello.
30:57Hi.
30:58Rami.
30:59Chris.
31:00Welcome back to the runway.
31:01As you know, the two of you are here to compete for the final spot at New York Fashion Week.
31:15We ask you to choose the three strongest looks from your collections for us to judge.
31:20These looks will determine which one of you will move on and which one of you will be out.
31:26Okay.
31:27Let's meet the judges.
31:29First, we have top American designer, Michael Kors.
31:33Hi, everyone.
31:34And the lovely Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle Magazine.
31:38Good luck.
31:40We believe in both of you, and this is why we gave you this opportunity.
31:45So we hope that you blow us away with your work.
31:49Good luck, and let's start the show.
32:00I've experimented with new techniques that I have not done before.
32:03I've made a point that I can do more than just straight.
32:11I'm proud of the collection.
32:12It's feminine.
32:13It's strong.
32:14It celebrates a woman's body.
32:19I'm excited, but I'm nervous because I want to show my collection by a part.
32:30I think my collection expresses who I am as a fashion designer.
32:43It's actually very sophisticated and sleek and daring and dark.
32:49It's what I think of as being beautiful, that whole kind of like the dark side of beauty.
32:57And so I'm really happy with what I came up with.
33:00It was pretty exciting to finally see something come down that runway that I had had some time to make.
33:15And that, I think, was a real reflection of the way that I work and my creativity.
33:27We've scored your designs.
33:28One of you will be going to Fashion Week.
33:31And one of you will be out.
33:33Let's bring out your models.
33:47Chris, tell us a little bit about your inspiration.
33:50My inspiration was kind of a dark glamour goth.
33:54And I tried to incorporate some unexpected materials.
33:59Is that the fake fur?
34:01Is it goat?
34:03No, it's human hair.
34:05It is human hair?
34:06Yes.
34:08I liked it because it's a little dark, a little creepy, a little goth.
34:12I liked it.
34:13Well, I have to say, you know, I don't know.
34:15It's a little creepy, as you said before, to wear human hair.
34:18But you thought outside of the box.
34:21And then what is the skirt on the first suit maybe?
34:24And that's another thing.
34:25This skirt is made out of black chrome safety pins.
34:28Safety pins.
34:29I can just tell you.
34:30Each row took about eight hours.
34:32Yeah.
34:33Wow.
34:34I think that that's beautifully crafted.
34:36On the other side of the coin, I think that the girls look overly designed and dark.
34:42Particularly when I got to this gown, you can't move in it, which is a problem.
34:47Yeah.
34:48I mean, you're in a velvet condom.
34:50I mean, you know, so that really bothered me.
34:53But the work that went into it's pretty remarkable.
34:57I think the clothes look terrific.
35:00I love the safety pins.
35:01Even the human hair.
35:03Although I'm not so sure if I could, I would wear it.
35:06But it can go overboard.
35:08I want to know why did you pick these three outfits from 12?
35:13I thought it would probably be the best idea to choose three things from one of the color sections.
35:19And I thought the black ones were the most dramatic.
35:23Everything is like a special, unique piece that I haven't seen before.
35:27It definitely is very creative.
35:30Why do you deserve Dakota Fashion Week?
35:32I think that it might be interesting to have a point of view from outside the fashion world.
35:38Personally, I think my head would just blow off.
35:42I don't know.
35:43Okay, Rami, what was your inspiration?
35:48I wanted to show that I'm able to construct.
35:53And I needed to find that balance between what I've created on the show and the last things that you guys have said.
35:59And I've taken all of these things into consideration, including Tim's visit.
36:02And I hope that that came through.
36:04I appreciate the fact that you listened and that you incorporated some things that were more tailored.
36:11I particularly liked your second look.
36:13Oh, thank you.
36:14Can I see the dress by itself?
36:16Yeah, of course.
36:19I mean, it's really beautifully done with the placement and the effect is fantastic.
36:24It looks effortless and I have a feeling it is worked.
36:27That didn't like just whoosh onto the, you know, dress form like that.
36:31You're sitting there and draping that beautifully.
36:33I worry about the proportion a little bit of your coat.
36:36I think with the collar, the little capelet sleeve, then the pleating, that's a lot of volume in one coat.
36:44Yeah.
36:45In terms of being a customer, I would wear like the evening dress.
36:48It's gorgeously made, but then those round things on her hips are just really unflattering.
36:55I didn't have a problem with that.
36:57It is a fantasy dress.
36:59It is a fantasy.
37:00But both of you have a very dark inspiration.
37:06I don't know why.
37:08Why do you deserve to go to Fashion Week?
37:10I mean, this is who I am.
37:13This has been my calling since I was six years old.
37:15So I think that going to Fashion Week for me could be a wonderful opportunity that can showcase my work to a large audience so that new doors could open afterwards.
37:27Okay, we've heard what you had to say.
37:28We're going to have a little chat.
37:30And then I'm going to call you back.
37:32You can leave the runway.
37:34So what did you guys think about the show?
37:48Both of them were so dark.
37:51Obviously, they wanted to show something very dramatic.
37:54And I think things got overly designed, overly complicated.
37:58But I think that there was a lot of ingenuity and a lot of craft that went into these clothes we saw.
38:03So what do we think about Rami?
38:05With Rami, there's a substance there.
38:07That's organic.
38:08Yes, there is a skill.
38:09I thought that middle dress was beautiful.
38:11Me too.
38:12I mean, I could name 25 women who would want to own that dress.
38:16That means that there's some commercial viability to what he's doing.
38:20The evening dress, I like too.
38:22Like the side bits?
38:23No.
38:24I liked it.
38:25I had more of a problem with the coat because it looked overdone.
38:30He's trying to incorporate it to something tailored.
38:33So my hat's off that he tried it.
38:35You know what, and I appreciate that he listened.
38:37We were very concerned that he was going to have one Grecian goddess after the other.
38:42And he didn't.
38:46And what do we think about Chris?
38:48When you think about that he took human hair, safety pins, panty velvet made it look like fur, reworked the whole thing, and tailored it beautifully.
38:58And when it first came out, I wasn't really sure what any of it was.
39:01And that's kind of intriguing.
39:02Yeah.
39:03He was very proud to say that it was hair extensions.
39:06Yes, human hair.
39:07Right.
39:08And it's maybe a little dark and a little golf.
39:09Right.
39:10But I think that Chris is still giving us costumes.
39:13But you know what?
39:14There have been many fantastic designers that have started off as costume designers and have
39:19built a business on this.
39:25We know what we want to do?
39:26Yeah, I think so.
39:27Okay.
39:28Let's bring them back out.
39:29Chris.
39:30Rami.
39:31One of you will be out.
39:46We'll be out.
39:47Chris.
39:48Rami.
39:49One of you will be going to Fashion Week and one of you will be out.
39:53You made this a very difficult decision.
39:54Our criticism of both of your three looks is that they felt dark and overworked.
40:00But here's the good news.
40:01Chris.
40:02Chris.
40:03You showed us how incredibly creative you are.
40:07Rami.
40:08Rami.

40:14Rami.
40:15Congratulations.
40:16Congratulations.
40:17You're going to New York Fashion Week.
40:19Thank you so much.
