00:01Previously on Project Runway.
00:03Designers, I am honored to introduce Tiki Barber.
00:07Your challenge is to design an outfit for me.
00:11Do these people know how long it takes to do this stuff?
00:15Oh, God.
00:17I'm so stressed out. I can't think clearly.
00:20Don't go home too soon.
00:22Long note, bitch. You know, long note.
00:24Don't bite, you guys.
00:26Some people are freaking out.
00:30I'd like to extend my congratulations to Jack.
00:36Thank you very much.
00:37Oh, my God.
00:38Do I just freaking want to challenge on Project Runway?
00:41What's with the safety pins holding up that jacket?
00:44Well, I could not wear this.
00:46You didn't have time to finish your shirt?
00:49I did not.
00:50This is unacceptable.
00:52Carmen, you're out.
00:54The winner of Project Runway will receive a spread in Elle magazine, an opportunity to sell their line on bluefly.com, an all-new 2008 Saturn Astra, and $100,000 to start their own line.
01:11Furnished by Tresemme Professional Hair Care.
01:14This is Project Runway.
01:16Let's go.
01:17Hell yes, I'm the best.
01:18You're either in or you're out.
01:20I'm in, they're out.
01:22I would be caught dead in his clothes.
01:24Fashion is my life.
01:25Who will be the next big fashion designer?
01:27That's me.
01:28Bottom line, I'm the best.
01:30I will own the runway.
01:32For these 15 designers, Project Runway is a chance of a lifetime.
01:45They saw that you would have a good product.
01:48Whereas, like, had Carmen even finished, it still wasn't good, you know?
01:53It's really sad Carmen left, for sure.
01:56But it's a little more comfortable with three people in there, and better her than me.
02:02Project Runway should have a perfume.
02:04It's a mixture of tears, sweat, and, um...
02:10Chinese food.
02:12Yeah, exactly.
02:16I'm ready.
02:17Let's go.
02:26Hello.
02:27Hello.
02:28Before we talk about the next challenge, let's bring out the winning and losing designers' models.
02:39Because you worked with male models in the last challenge, we have two losing designers' models.
02:46Marion's model, Sharon, and Carmen's model, Annalita.
02:50Jack, you were the winner of the last challenge.
02:53Your model was Christina.
02:55If you decide to stay with her, Sharon and Annalita will be out.
02:59If you decide to swap, I will bring out all the models for you to choose from.
03:04What do you want to do?
03:05I would like to swap.
03:07Okay.
03:08Let's bring out all the models.
03:16Okay, Jack.
03:17Who do you want?
03:18Um, I'm really sorry, Ricky, but I want to pick Lee.
03:23I was a little pissed.
03:25I was like, you know, now I see you for your true colors.
03:29Okay, Lee.
03:30That means you're Jack's model.
03:33And Christina, you're Ricky's model.
03:36You can leave the runway.
03:41I'm sorry you're both out.
03:42Auf Wiedersehen.
03:43Okay, up in the work room, Tim is waiting for you.
03:54And he's not alone.
03:55There's a familiar face with him.
03:57And she has brought some old friends with her.
04:01To help deliver your challenge.
04:04Immediately I thought, okay, we're gonna make some clothes for our senior citizens.
04:08Okay.
04:09I'll see you on the runway.
04:10Cheers.
04:11We walk into the work room and there's Nina standing there next to Tim.
04:25On the table, there are 12 photographs of really hideous fashion trends.
04:35And we were all wondering what the heck was going on.
04:38Designers, I want to welcome a familiar face, our very own Nina Garcia.
04:43Hi, guys.
04:45Elle Magazine has been photographing the evolution of trends for decades now.
04:51Like Heidi would say, some trends are in, some trends are out, and these are definitely out.
04:59Ironically, I was wearing overalls, so I'm like, am I completely dated by wearing them?
05:06Before we tell you about your challenge, we want each of you to select one of these trends.
05:11All right, let's see who's going first.
05:13First up is Jack.
05:16Oh.
05:18Those trends are outdated for a reason.
05:19They're all awful.
05:20I'm gonna take pleather.
05:22So I just picked Britney Spears on crack.
05:26All right, next is Victoria.
05:30Underwear as outerwear.
05:31Christian.
05:32Okay.
05:37Rummy.
05:38I would like little skirts.
05:41Kit.
05:43Fringe.
05:44Now we have Elisa.
05:49Jillian.
05:51I would like to bring overalls back.
05:55Why?
05:56Look how you're dressed.
05:58And now we have Ricky.
06:01I'll take neon.
06:03Heaven.
06:0470's flair.
06:06John Travolta.
06:07Chris.
06:10Joan Crawford it is.
06:12Steve.
06:13There is no way that I can make a baggy sweater work, so I'm kicking dancewear.
06:18Why am I always laughing?
06:20I'm like, is my button just stuck to the bottom of that bag on purpose?
06:24I will pick a baggy sweater.
06:26Fantastic.
06:27All right, so let's hear about your challenge.
06:30Nina?
06:31For this challenge, you will be working in teams of three.
06:35Oh, no.
06:37Each team must create a collection of three looks that incorporates all three outdated trends.
06:43We're basically recreating a trend, which kind of made me nauseous because all the trends are so exaggerated.
06:48So I was like, oh my gosh, I'm gonna die.
06:51The collection must be cohesive and relevant for today.
06:54All right, we're going to let you select your teams.
06:59We have to choose our teams of three, and now it gets a little more complicated.
07:04When I say go, he'll have one minute to do that.
07:08All right, go.
07:09Sweet Pea and Steven and I were kind of looking at each other and we held our pictures out and looked at them and we went, hmm.
07:19Like three or four options.
07:21I immediately looked at the group and knew precisely who I needed to work with based strictly on their trends.
07:27I knew I wanted to work with Christian and Jack because they're both so much fun and that's why I'm here.
07:33Jillian was standing next to me and we looked at each other instantly and we just knew.
07:37And then she said to me, how about Kevin? So it was perfect.
07:41Okay, time's up.
07:43All right, you have your teams.
07:45Each team has a budget of $225 and two days to complete this challenge.
07:53You will have an hour to sketch after which we're going shopping.
07:58And during that hour, I want each team to select a leader.
08:04Nina, thank you so much.
08:05Oh, thank you, Tim. And designers, I look forward to seeing you on the runway.
08:11All right, your hour starts now.
08:16We're supposed to pick the team leader.
08:18I think you should be.
08:20Sweet Pea and Steven pointed at me and said, well, you're obviously going to be our project leader.
08:24And I was like, okay.
08:25How about each of us draw each one of the three things?
08:31There was no way to put shoulder pads with a baggy sweater and dancewear.
08:36So we're doing our own individual looks and it's tied together through color and silhouette.
08:44Okay, that sounds good.
08:45You are very 70s to me.
08:46Totally.
08:47So you have that down and you do wear overalls, obviously.
08:50We decided that I would be the team leader.
08:52Our trends that we selected are overalls, poodle skirt and 70s flare.
08:57And maybe the poodle skirt element comes in at the high dramatic neck.
09:01We decided to incorporate all three trends in all three looks.
09:06I don't want to be leader. I'm done.
09:07I don't care.
09:09I'll be the leader.
09:10Okay.
09:11I mean, you're the mediator.
09:12I'll be the leader.
09:13I'll just make sure we're, like, on task.
09:14Okay.
09:15Our three trends are underwear is outerwear, neon, and cutouts.
09:20She'll tell me what you think about your palette.
09:22She'll tell me how she thinks we can do cutouts.
09:23Okay.
09:24And I'll say how we can do it.
09:25Okay?
09:26I've not worked with Victoria much.
09:28She seems a little bossy.
09:29It's like a bustier or a coarsely kind of thing.
09:31Just focus on cutouts.
09:33So I offered to be the leader just because I think if she were the leader,
09:37there would be so much micromanaging that we wouldn't get to our destination.
09:41I think the pleather and the fringe is an accessory.
09:44Yeah.
09:45The trends that we chose were pleather, zoot suit, and fringe.
09:49We decided for me to be the team leader.
09:51To make our collection cohesive, I think we have to incorporate all three trends into each of our outfits.
10:00That's what we're doing.
10:01Yeah, I do like that, that our fringe isn't really fringe.
10:03Yeah.
10:04I like that.
10:05I like that, too.
10:06Design teams.
10:07Time's up.
10:08We're going to be shopping.
10:09Let's go.
10:13Get out of the way!
10:19Our team is pretty fierce.
10:21So I just called everyone Team Star because Team Star is like hot.
10:25Like star.
10:26Like celebrity.
10:27Let's make it fabulous.
10:28That is pretty.
10:29It looks very vintage, right?
10:30That's what I have in mind.
10:31This is good.
10:32We're looking like...
10:33Hot colors.
10:34I said, you know what?
10:35We need to do this in Duchess Satin because the color is going to look amazing in it.
10:39And it's just going to look sharp.
10:40And it's going to look fresh.
10:41That's gorgeous.
10:42I absolutely love that one.
10:43Can we get it?
10:44He doesn't like it.
10:45He doesn't?
10:46He said, it looks like grandma's goddamn couch.
10:49Sweet Pea, answer me.
10:50What?
10:51What?
10:52Hurry up.
10:53How much money have you spent?
10:54I don't think we need to worry about it right now.
10:55Everybody, you have to be at the register.
10:57We're going to head back to Parsons now.
11:08I'm just going to do a little cap sleeve.
11:10Petite, if I do fringe, it's going to look like armpit hair.
11:13Yeah.
11:14It's going to look like what?
11:15Armpit hair.
11:16Armpit hair.
11:17This is why I have this idea of having just your sweater.
11:23Sweet Pea is making this fantastic sack dress.
11:26And Stephen's making one of those kind of like wrap dresses.
11:30I'm making this kind of short jacket over a long dress.
11:33I had an idea about them each having like three braided ponytails.
11:37A lot of people have me in a pigeon hole.
11:40You know, there's Chris with a 10-foot wig and a big giant costume made out of like 200 yards of fabric.
11:46But as the group leader, I feel like I finally got a chance to show that I can design anything just as good as anybody else in the room.
11:54Ooh, what you got going on there, twirly-girly?
11:57Twirly-girly, I got me a jacket.
12:00Flying arms.
12:02Sweet and merciful crap.
12:05Chris keeps on telling me, girl, this jacket's going to be hot.
12:10Don't worry about it.
12:12Okay.
12:13I would like just a real quick breakdown of how to make a great shift.
12:16Okay.
12:17In your language, sculpt the fabric.
12:20Yeah, sculpt the fabric to fit.
12:21Got it.
12:22I'm trying to speak to Elisa in a way that I think that she would understand it.
12:25Oh, I start with my center.
12:27There you go.
12:28Put your pin there.
12:29I can understand that.
12:30I was a dancer.
12:31When you're a modern dancer and you have teachers that are like, they seem like they're high on pot and they speak to you in this same language.
12:39Feel the crease and breathe and feel your pelvis.
12:43Like naturally, you always want to have your center.
12:46Your center.
12:47And what is all my work about?
12:48There you go.
12:49About the center.
12:50Okay.
12:52Yeah, I think I was making sense to her.
12:53All right, bitch.
12:54Can you just make a dress?
12:56Get back to work.
13:00I'm working on overalls.
13:14Kevin's look is very high waisted, hot shorts and Rami's look is the denim dress.
13:20It's gonna be beautiful.
13:22I worked with Rami previously and we worked beautifully together.
13:27But I don't know exactly what Kevin's capable of.
13:30I'm getting concerned here.
13:32I feel like it needs to be shaped on the form properly.
13:37It was a really complicated pattern to figure out.
13:40And Jillian was worried like if we should change everything.
13:43It's just very crucial that you get a very flat, perfect shape on the body.
13:47I am the team leader.
13:48I am ultimately responsible for the results of what comes out of this.
13:52So if Kevin doesn't move like the speed of light, we're gonna be in huge trouble.
13:57Come on, you guys.
13:58Let's go.
13:59Coming up on Project Runway.
14:01We don't have time to cut it again.
14:02And I, in fact, wanted to ask you why you wanted to be team leader.
14:05She didn't have the balls to be the leader.
14:20We have two days for this challenge.
14:22The goal is for each team to blend each of their three trends
14:26into three looks that are cohesive and modern.
14:30Look, kid, it's the shoulder pad challenge.
14:35The trends that we chose were so crazy.
14:37We're all toning it down, but it's hard.
14:40Designers, I'm afraid I'm here to tell you that you're screwed.
14:44There's nothing you can do to fix what you're working on.
14:50Carry on.
14:52Do you think I should just do the darts as a line, or should I go ahead and do the whole triangle?
15:03Just the line.
15:04Yeah.
15:05In the little stitch that you like?
15:06Yeah.
15:07I don't like to be a bossy cow, but I have, like, serious ideas about fashion.
15:12My team has the cut-out trend, the neon trend, and the underwear's outerwear trend.
15:18We're all going off this sort of color-blocked idea, and we wanted to incorporate all three trends into each look.
15:26The way that the colors separated, to me, it has more of a lingerie feel.
15:32Victoria comes over to my table looking at my garment and saying, you know what?
15:36Maybe the pleats should be like this, and maybe it should be like this, and it kind of threw me back.
15:41I personally would just like it clean because then it looks more blocked.
15:46Victoria needs to get on task doing her own thing.
15:49If she doesn't, we're going to be in trouble.
15:58Designers, in the spirit of wanting to help you succeed, I'm sending in your models.
16:05You will have 30 minutes with them to fit.
16:07Okay, I'm sending them in now.
16:16It looks so cute.
16:17It looks really good together, I think.
16:19Wow.
16:20Whoa.
16:21We had our models put on as much as we had done, and had them stand together to look at cohesiveness.
16:27Do you want to know the only thing really bumming my eye out?
16:30What?
16:31The color of that charmeuse.
16:32Really?
16:33I think Chris's outfit and my outfit look really good together, but Steve's garment just was not cohesive.
16:39So I'm like, man.
16:40All that extra that you added for the pleating is just disappearing.
16:49I just don't know how the whole thing went, like from okay to not.
16:54Because she's different measurements than what we thought.
16:56Apparently the model was close to Jillian's size, so we fit in on Jillian, we get to the model.
17:00The model's too big for them.
17:02We don't have time to cut it again.
17:04I did exactly what I was supposed to do, so.
17:06So it just started to get frustrating just in general.
17:09I'll just re-cut it, extend it out.
17:11This is god-awful.
17:12When Jacqueline tried on the garment, it looked like something a Harlequin would wear to Festivall.
17:18I decided, because it looked so blaringly awful, that the design needed to change.
17:25Everything will be completely different tomorrow, don't worry.
17:27I trust you.
17:28Okay.
17:29Don't worry.
17:31See you tomorrow.
17:32Thank you, Katie.
17:33Bye, Aviva.
17:34Have a great day.
17:37How's it going?
17:38I think it's okay.
17:39It's coming along.
17:40When Victoria's model comes in, they talk about how they're going to change the concept
17:44of her environment without asking me what I think.
17:47The only thing I'm not crazy about is the crisscross, because there's so many lines already.
17:53I don't know.
17:54I'm liking the crisscross.
17:57With her doing her own thing and giving what I say no consideration, it's really hard
18:02to make sure that it's cohesive and still looking like we're a group.
18:06I kind of feel like we're in trouble.
18:08I just can't believe it right now.
18:12Believe what?
18:13I think that Kevin should be further along than he is.
18:17It makes me nervous.
18:18We have only two hours left and I don't even know if we're going to have any time tomorrow.
18:22As soon as he gets back, this has to be finished.
18:25It just has to.
18:26When you're a designer and there are other people working under you, we have to push them to finish.
18:32I really didn't want to see a miscalculation of time kind of ruin the vision of this collection.
18:37How are you guys?
18:38We're good, we think.
18:39We love it.
18:40Talk to me.
18:41So we had pleather, fringe, and zoot suit.
18:42And so this fabric is our zoot suit.
18:44We tried to represent the pinstripe and then fringe.
18:47We used upholstery fringe.
18:48It looks very modern.
18:49Yeah.
18:51Thanks, Tim.
18:52Love you back.
18:53How do you think it looks together?
18:54I'm not certain.
18:55Because we're looking for cohesion.
19:09Yeah, I'm wondering why it was inside my belt.
19:11I don't think again about that jacket, because you have tomente on rubble.
19:19Because you have sleeveless happening here, too.
19:22Also, this looks so much more modern without the jacket.
19:26Right.
19:27All right?
19:28Okay.
19:29At this point, there's not a whole lot that can be done.
19:32I just pray that the judges get it.
19:36How's team Jillian?
19:38We're doing okay.
19:39Yeah?
19:40Um, I see the same person wearing it, and you know who it is?
19:44It's Jillian!
19:45Like, that's why they felt comfortable having me as a team leader as well, because it does feel very much like my style.
19:53You have a lot of work to do.
19:55Make it work.
19:57Okay.
20:00How's team Ricky?
20:02What do you think?
20:04It's not looking very well finished.
20:07It's not looking very refined.
20:10And that concerns me.
20:11You know, if it were a perfect world, I think I would have tweaked the silhouettes a little bit.
20:16The silhouettes, plural?
20:18Yeah.
20:18Part of the challenge was to do a mini group and to have cohesion among the three designs.
20:24I mean, I hear what you're saying, but I also...
20:26Can I finish?
20:26Yeah, go ahead.
20:27Sorry.
20:27You know, I had these two designs in mind.
20:29I think I also convinced these two to jump on board, because maybe I was so excited about it.
20:34It's still there, your designs.
20:36Well, yeah.
20:37So it's your concept.
20:39Ricky's the team leader.
20:41I'm confused, but I'll leave it to you all to figure out.
20:44Just make sure it's cohesive.
20:47All right.
20:47Thank you all.
20:48When Tim comes to visit, Victoria is firing these statements.
20:52These are my concepts, and in a perfect world, they would be more like this.
20:56And it just threw me for a loop.
20:59I want to make sure that the cohesion is working.
21:01Today, you changed your design.
21:03You weren't sharing with me what you were doing.
21:05Because I felt like it really did have to go into a certain direction, because there were
21:09design elements that were clearly wrong.
21:11To you, sometimes it's better not to fight about it and to go with it.
21:16You know, I don't believe that.
21:17I will never send something down the runway that I don't believe wholeheartedly in.
21:21And I, in fact, wanted to ask you why you wanted to be team leader.
21:25Whoa, that's...
21:26No, wait, wait, wait.
21:27If you feel like you've been the team leader the whole time, why don't you just take team
21:31leader things?
21:31No, because I didn't take it.
21:33I liked the fact that someone else stepped up to the plate, but I expected that person
21:37to fulfill those responsibilities.
21:40In general, Victoria is very passive-aggressive.
21:43I honestly think she wanted to be the leader, but she didn't have the balls to be the leader.
21:48I need to keep working, and we will continue this discussion, because I want no misunderstanding.
21:53That's fine.
21:57Skip your battles and just finish it.
22:01Okay.
22:01Because we're behind schedule.
22:02All right.
22:07I think it looks great.
22:12Hi, Robin.
22:14Poor thing.
22:15He's losing it.
22:15There's no excuse to want to get a pair of shorts done in one day.
22:25Jillian was more concerned about finishing her look.
22:28I didn't think she had as much concern about the rest of the group.
22:31You should kind of be concerned.
22:33I didn't sense...
22:34I was definitely concerned.
22:35When I asked you, I said, what do we do?
22:36You're like, he needs to finish it.
22:38I am not going to stand over somebody and say, when are you going to be done?
22:42What are you doing now?
22:43I don't think I should have to breathe down anybody's neck.
22:45We agreed to disagree on that one.
22:46How is that?
22:47And it's okay.
22:48Jillian just feels differently about leading a team, and I cannot argue with that.
22:52That's just her opinion.
22:53I don't know how to satisfy everybody at this point.
22:55You know what I mean?
22:56Let's go.
22:57Today, I was so disappointed, because I felt like every single detail, you couldn't make a decision on.
23:03I was happy with my decisions.
23:05You were so worried about what I was doing, that you had to do your outfit twice.
23:10This challenge is a disaster.
23:12The collection doesn't look like a cohesive line.
23:14Tomorrow is the runway, and maybe we're f***ed.
23:17I stand by what I say.
23:19Yeah, so do I.
23:19Okay.
23:21Okay.
23:24Coming up on Project Runway.
23:26I have to pull, like, a magic rabbit out of my ass right now.
23:28I notice right away that it's just wrong.
23:31It's the morning of the runway show, and I'm feeling nervous in general, because Kevin is still not finished with his work.
23:51It's so exciting.
23:57It's the day, but I'm a little concerned.
24:00I feel like there's a conflict of communication between Ricky and Victoria, and our collection is not pulling it all together.
24:07I'm ready.
24:09Where are we going?
24:09We're going out for breakfast, and then massage.
24:12I'm going to Denny's.
24:13Ooh.
24:14How's it going?
24:26I'm very good.
24:27All of you have to pump in that paint.
24:29I'm pretty much done with my garment, and Lisa is ready to go as well.
24:33And Victoria's is not finished, because Victoria actually ended up changing her garment without asking me for help.
24:38I mean, in so many ways, you can say, I'm here for you.
24:41But when a person doesn't want to listen, they just don't want to listen.
24:49Jillian wasn't feeling too good about where I was at.
24:52I have to pull, like, a magic rabbit out of my ass right now to make it work.
24:59Good morning, designers.
25:01I am about to send in your models.
25:03You have two hours to take them to the Press and My Hair Salon and the L'Oreal Paris makeup room.
25:08All right.
25:09Here they come.
25:11Good morning, ladies.
25:13Do you have the camera?
25:14Hi.
25:15Hello.
25:16Maybe we should check her neck measurement.
25:29I'm concerned about Chris's jacket.
25:32I think that's where we might end up getting tripped up.
25:36And I kind of wish that Chris was more concerned about it.
25:41I don't know.
25:47Thank you, too.
25:48Can I just suggest something?
25:50Because I'm changing something right now.
25:51Turn around.
25:51I approach Victoria as she's fitting her bodice.
25:56And I notice right away that it's just wrong.
26:00Because right now you're flattening her bust.
26:01I like that.
26:02I personally like things, I guess, on the runway to be super flat.
26:06Because I'm used to seeing that on other runway collections.
26:10Can I just see?
26:11Yeah.
26:12You don't mind?
26:13No, no, no.
26:13Go ahead.
26:13All right.
26:14I'm a lingerie designer.
26:15And I think she knows this.
26:17So it was really insulting for her to tell me, no, no, no, no, no, no.
26:20I like it this way.
26:21I'm just trying to make it look polished.
26:24And I don't think that smashing her boobs is a polished look.
26:28It feels better, right?
26:29It does.
26:30It just feels comfortable right now.
26:32If that helps.
26:32Okay.
26:33I let him pin it.
26:34And then sort of after a couple minutes, and this always happens to me,
26:38I let that sort of sit in my head.
26:39And I thought, wow, that looks really good.
26:41Keep it up and pretty just so that it offsets the hugeness of the skirt.
26:58We'd like sleep all the way back.
27:00Yeah, take him out.
27:09Jillian, I got a surprise for you.
27:11Oh, no.
27:13Yeah.
27:14Press this out.
27:15Press that open.
27:16Yep.
27:16And you're good.
27:17Oh, God.
27:17Beautiful work.
27:18You, like, worked your magic in the very last hour.
27:21That's how I work.
27:22It's tough to, like, trust that last-minute thing.
27:24Absolutely.
27:25I'm impressed.
27:26I feel guilty that I was doubting him, actually, because in the end,
27:30the guy put together something really amazing-looking,
27:33and I was totally grateful to Kevin.
27:35It looks great.
27:36Pretty ferocious.
27:38The clothes looked amazing.
27:39I think it's very, very innovative.
27:41I love it so much.
27:43I love our collection.
27:44It's fabulous.
27:45Come with me.
27:50Designers, models.
27:52This is it.
27:54Come, everyone.
27:55In all honesty, I think Ricky's collection is horribly ugly.
27:59And I didn't really think Chris's was any better.
28:02His jacket was pure costume.
28:04But you never know that the judges might die over it, or they might die because of it.
28:11Okay, I've got your belt.
28:12Are we good?
28:12We've got your shoes.
28:13I've got your belt.
28:14Everybody, follow me.
28:16We're going right now.
28:17Come on.
28:18Come on.
28:19Coming up on Project Runway.
28:21Your outfit looks poorly constructed.
28:24You threw yourself to a terrible disadvantage.
28:28I don't think she has any respect for me.
28:30I can't help but to say what I think.
28:32Welcome to the Runway.
28:41As you know in fashion, one day you're in, and the next day you're out.
28:46For this challenge, we asked you to incorporate three outdated fashion trends into a cohesive
28:52collection of three looks.
28:54We had you work in teams of three, and each team had a budget of $225 and two days to finish
29:02the collection.
29:03Let's meet the judges.
29:06First, we have top American designer Michael Kors.
29:09Hey, guys.
29:10Hi.
29:10Nina Garcia, fashion director of Elle magazine.
29:13Hello, everyone.
29:15And Donna Karan, chief designer of Donna Karan International.
29:19We will score your designs as they come down the runway.
29:22One of you will be named the winner.
29:24And one of you will be out.
29:28Let's start the show.
29:33Our trends that we selected are overalls, poodle skirt and 70s flair.
29:38We decided to incorporate all three trends into all three looks.
29:42And I think that we really made something amazing come together.
29:47You're always concerned about certain little gimmicks that you put on the clothing.
29:51I see a man coming down the runway, and I'm just like, yeah.
29:53Rock it out.
29:54It was, like, awesome.
29:59The collection in general was very strong, very polished, very clean.
30:03So I was very happy with it.
30:05I was very proud.
30:06These trends are shoulder pads, baggy sweater, and dance square.
30:18We decided to keep single silhouettes with our trends.
30:22And I thought that each one of us was represented as a designer.
30:25I am so happy with my dress.
30:31And the whole silhouette is exactly what I pictured in my mind.
30:34It was just rad.
30:34The whole collection did seem a little fragmented.
30:42It seemed very separated.
30:44But the trends that we chose were pleather, zoot suit, and fringe.
30:54Our collection is very cohesive.
30:56And I think our collection is the strongest.
31:00I actually thought it looked great.
31:02Like, we all had our individual sense of style.
31:05But it was cohesive.
31:10I got a little bit nervous.
31:12I was concerned that our fabrics were a little bit muted once they were on the runway.
31:17Our three trends are underwear is outerwear, neon, and cutouts.
31:26We're giving the illusion of underwear.
31:28The neon was bringing the whole group together, and the cutouts were just illusions.
31:34I'm surprised and happily amazed.
31:37If I hadn't known that I had made that dress, I would never think that I had made that dress.
31:41I was really happy when the girls walked out, but I think the silhouettes weren't cohesive enough to form a mini group.
31:57Designers, we've scored your designs, and we're going to do things a little differently today.
32:04There was a clear winner, so we're going to announce the winner right off the runway.
32:11Congratulations, Jillian.
32:18We loved what you, Rami, and Kevin did.
32:21It was a cohesive collection, and modern also.
32:24So you three are all safe.
32:26Congratulations.
32:27You can leave the runway.
32:28When I started this whole thing, I became a little unsure about my capabilities, but now I know.
32:35You will keep seeing me in the top, and I will keep winning.
32:41Christian, your team's scores qualified you to move on to the next challenge.
32:49You can leave the runway.
33:00Ricky, Chris, your team's had the lowest scores, and one of you will be out.
33:06Okay, let's bring out your models.
33:16Chris, let's start with your team.
33:18Tell us a little bit about your collection.
33:20Our outdated trends were baggy sweater, dancewear, and shoulder pads.
33:27As a designer, for me, it's very important that there is a cohesiveness.
33:31But it's also up to the independence of you two to work together cohesively.
33:36We, not the me.
33:37And these are three girls from three different fashion shows.
33:41What do you think about Steve's outfit?
33:42I don't see a movement.
33:44I don't see her liquidity.
33:45I don't see her dancing.
33:47I would have never guessed this was a dance inspiration, to be honest with you.
33:51What about Sweet Peas?
33:52I have to say, I love your dress.
33:54I think it is wonderful.
33:55I would have liked it a little bit more exaggerated from my point of view, but I do love the dress.
34:01I totally agree with Donna.
34:03I think that it looks modern, and I think that you interpreted the trend.
34:07Nina, what did you think of Chris's outfit?
34:09Your outfit still looks a little dated.
34:12Certainly doesn't look like a new take on shoulder pads.
34:17I think she looks like a beauty pageant, but in camel.
34:20The totality of the garment is not holding together.
34:23It's not flowing.
34:25I had an idea for the short jacket that would play with the proportion of shoulder pads
34:30and try to make it updated.
34:32These big shoulder pads look awkward.
34:34It just doesn't feel relevant for today.
34:37But the point is, as a team leader, how could you be a leader if you can't lead yourself?
34:43Rikki, you are the team leader.
34:50Please tell us about your trends.
34:52Our trends were underwear as outerwear, neon, and cutouts.
34:57I do get your design, and I do like what you guys came up conceptually.
35:01But I have a problem with the way it's constructed and fitted.
35:05As far as the shift dress with the diamond cutout, I like the concept a lot.
35:10It looks modern.
35:12Victoria, I think the fit is excellent.
35:15To take a straight fabric and get it to fit is not an easy project.
35:19My dress, actually, I fit it on my model this morning, and Rikki was right there,
35:24and he actually was the one that suggested that the curve of the hip should go out.
35:29Rikki, I'm just surprised that your outfit looks most poorly constructed.
35:35I'm coming from the last challenge where you showed me something that had pins and needles still on it.
35:42I felt that by helping my two teammates, yeah, my work suffered, but just, yeah.
35:48In support of Rikki, I will say, because I am a sculptor,
35:52Rikki took time out to show me how to drape so that the satin would work,
35:56because I never worked in an unstretched fabric.
35:59Who picked this fabric?
36:00I did, and that was my decision because I said, you know what, let's go there.
36:03You picked one of the most impossible fabrics.
36:06I think you threw yourself as a team leader into a terrible disadvantage.
36:11Victoria, what did you think of Rikki's leadership?
36:14I felt that I was assuming a lot of responsibility,
36:17and completely the first two looks, I think I had a very, very heavy hand in both those looks.
36:24Does that tell you how he was as a leader?
36:27You talk more about yourself right now.
36:28So you overrode his leadership, basically.
36:30The thing is, is that I can't help but to say what I think,
36:33but I expect that sort of counterweight as well to my opinions.
36:37So he rolled over.
36:38I don't think she has any respect for me.
36:40This odd relationship that you guys had working on this project shows.
36:45We're looking at it. We're looking at it.
36:47Victoria, if one person in your team would have to be out, who would it be?
36:51Rikki.
36:52Rikki.
36:53I would say Victoria. She wasn't a team player.
36:55Elisa.
36:56In all fairness, I always say myself.
37:00So I take myself out first, always.
37:03Steve, if someone on your team should go, who would it be?
37:07Well, since I like my outfit, and I like Sweet Pea's outfit, then I suppose Chris should go.
37:14Chris.
37:15I guess I have to take responsibility for it, and then it should be me.
37:19Sweet Pea.
37:20Could I do any, any, any, any, any?
37:22Sweet Pea.
37:23Who would it be?
37:25I'm going to say Steven only because his outfit stands out as more separate, I guess.
37:30I'm sorry. It's all right. I don't know what to say.
37:34Okay, we've heard what you had to say. We're going to have a little chat, and then I'm going to call you back.
37:38We can leave the runway.
37:50Let's start with Rikki's team.
37:52You have three very disparate designers.
37:54They did attempt to pull it together as a collection.
37:58I don't know if it was totally successful.
38:00What do we think about Rikki's outfit?
38:02I was the most shocked when I saw his outfit.
38:05And that's so interesting because as an intimate designer, he really does understand the body.
38:09And I was particularly disappointed because I was expecting something to be meticulous, perfect.
38:14I don't know. Maybe he ended up spending so much time on the other two helping them.
38:18But of course, Victoria is saying that, you know, she was a big part of his garment.
38:22I was surprised with her personality.
38:24It was almost like I was the leader, not Rikki.
38:27She should have been a team player.
38:28They had issues, and they obviously had issues as a team working together.
38:36Let's go to Chris's team next.
38:38His collection was...
38:40Not a collection.
38:41Not a collection.
38:42The two things that we told him was make it relevant and make it cohesive.
38:46And on those two things, they were out.
38:48From a leadership point of view, that is where Chris went wrong.
38:51How did you like Steve's outfit?
38:54That was the one that really didn't relate at all to the two other ones.
38:59And then we have Chris's outfit.
39:02The jacket just...
39:03It was almost on a hanger.
39:05Not on a body.
39:06It had no body relationship.
39:07I mean, it didn't fit.
39:09It was old-fashioned.
39:10The fabric was ugly.
39:11It was a very bad pageant Mother of the Bride.
39:14Just old-fashioned.
39:16That's a big problem.
39:20Okay, so we've made our decision.
39:22Let's call them back out.
39:23Chris's team and Ricky's team had the lowest scores.
39:39And tonight, one of you will be out.
39:43Chris's team and Ricky's team had the lowest scores.
39:55And tonight, one of you will be out.
40:02Sweet Pea, you're in.
40:05You can leave the runway.
40:13Lisa, you're in.
40:17You can leave the runway.
40:25Steve, you're in.
40:28You can leave the runway.
40:38Victoria, you're in.
40:42You can leave the runway.
40:43Ricky, Chris, one of you will be out.
41:07Ricky, the choices you've made as a leader made life harder for yourself.
41:13And your teammates.
41:15And out of the three looks, yours was the worst.
41:20Chris, your team's collection was not cohesive or modern.
41:27And like Ricky, your look was the worst.
41:36Ricky, you're in.
41:40You can leave the runway.
41:41You can leave the runway.
41:42You can leave the runway.
41:42You can leave the runway.
41:50Chris, that means you're out.
41:52It's been a really wild ride that I won't soon forget.
42:12I'm sad to go, but I really loved what I made, and I really stick by it, and no, it's not the last you'll hear from me.
42:25It's a quiz, so I have to ask you to go upstairs and clean up your space, okay?
42:29I just will go back to my life as a freelance costume designer, and I definitely hope that to this season of Project Runway I brought fun, because that's what my life is all about.
42:43Next, on Project Runway, okay, before we talk about your next challenge, let's bring out your models.
42:55And I was like, holy shit, oh my god, I'm gonna die.
42:58Jack and I just had a discussion, and I just want Jack to share it with him.
43:02Whoa.
43:02I have another surprise.
43:06How much more of this can we take in, like, just one and a half days?
43:10Oh, dear god.
43:12I think you turned her into a waitress.
43:14It looks like a French maid, or we're going to a funeral.
43:17That's a little Shirley MacLaine when she played a hooker with a heart of gold.
43:22Visit bravotv.com to learn more about the fashions you've seen on today's show.
43:32And I'll see you next time.
