00:00Today, Rupert meets Sonny Spells for the first time in Rupert and the Old Mill.

00:16There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:23Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:30There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.

00:36And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

00:50Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.

00:57In all of his days.

00:59Mrs. Bear is washing up the lunch things, whilst Rupert is telling her about school.

01:12Rupert, dear, while you're talking, perhaps you could wipe the dishes for me, says Mrs. Bear.

01:16Yes, Mummy.

01:19Did I tell you that our teacher has given the class the afternoon off, says Rupert.

01:23Well, you did mention it this morning before you went out, but you didn't tell me why.

01:28We're studying old buildings, and the teacher wants us to go out and look for some.

01:34I'll go.

01:35I expect that's Edward.

01:36Hello, Rupert, are you ready yet? asks Edward.

01:43Well, I've just got to finish.

01:45You can leave the wiping up, dear, and I'll see you at tea time, says Mrs. Bear.

01:49I hope we can find some kind of old building, says Edward as they go down the lane.

01:56I don't know where to look.

01:58Wait for me, you too, puffs Bill Badger, hurrying to catch them up.

02:02Come on, slow coach.

02:04Where are we going to find this old place?

02:07Well, over by the woods is a lane we've never been down before.

02:11Let's try that.

02:13Rupert Bear, Edward Trunk, and Bill Badger, too, follow one behind the other to a place that's new.

02:19Isn't it exciting?

02:21I like exploring.

02:24Why are you spying on me? demands Raggedy, popping out from behind a tree.

02:29Raggedy, what are you doing here?

02:32We're not spying on you.

02:34We're out looking for old buildings.

02:36What have you got in your hand? asks Bill, looking at a piece of wood Raggedy is holding.

02:43It's a horrible old piece of wood.

02:45They got it from that old building over there, but it tastes awful.

02:48There!

02:50And he hurries away.

02:52Come on, we're wasting too much time.

02:56Rupert and his chums find an opening from the lane into a field and squeeze through the bushes.

03:01I wonder where this leads to.

03:05Edward sees a path.

03:06Come on, let's follow it.

03:11Soon they see part of a building through the trees.

03:14Let's go and see what it is.

03:16It looks like a very old building to me, exclaims Bill.

03:24Perhaps it's too old to study, suggests Edward.

03:28Oh no, the older the better.

03:30Come on.

03:31It's got a funny big wheel thing on the side.

03:36And I can hear water.

03:39Oh, I know what it is.

03:40It's a mill.

03:41I've seen pictures of them.

03:43Rupert explains how a mill is always by a stream, so that the water can turn the big wheel to grind the corn.

03:52Well, this wheel isn't turning, exclaims Edward.

03:57Oh dear, oh dear, whatever shall I do?

04:00A man is standing in the doorway.

04:03Oh, I beg your pardon, I didn't see you.

04:06Have you brought me some corn?

04:08No, no, I'm afraid not.

04:11Oh dear, I'm the miller, you see, but because of this newfangled machinery I haven't any corn to grind.

04:19Why's that, sir?

04:20inquires Rupert.

04:21You see, these machines are so big, and with all the rain that we've had lately, the ground's too soft for them, and they get stuck in the mud.

04:32What will you do then, sir?

04:35I just hope some grain will turn up soon.

04:38Now, what was it you wanted?

04:40Rupert explains about them studying old buildings for school.

04:44So, we'd like to study yours, if that's all right, he finishes.

04:47Yes, of course, the mill might as well be of some use.

04:52Bill and Edward decide to go inside first to have a look, but Rupert goes to examine the wheel.

04:59It's very big when you get close to it, he thinks.

05:03Ha, ha, ha, he, he, he, he.

05:05Me name's Sunny Spells.

05:07Oh, are you to do with the weather?

05:10Yes, when Sunny Spells is on the way, you'll be happy, bright and gay, he chants.

05:49Well, the miller's worried because he has no corn or wheat.

05:53It's been too wet lately.

05:55Oh, I'll try and help, says the little man, taking off his straw hat.

05:59He throws it on the ground, just like Drizzle does.

06:02And it grows, just like Drizzle's.

06:11Rupert is amazed.

06:13Come on, get in.

06:14Then we'll be back for the next sunny spell.

06:18Where are we going?

06:20To the land of harvest.

06:22The people are friendly and very helpful there.

06:29Oh, it sounds great.

06:30You'll meet the emperor of corn.

06:33I'm sure he can do something for you.

06:39A straw boater comes down on sandy ground.

06:43Everything is yellow and bleached by the sun, which is always shiny.

06:47Everyone lives outside here, explains Sunny Spells, getting out of the hat.

06:54It's so warm.

06:57He leads Rupert along bright corridors between the gold and corn, until they come to a gate.

07:05It swings open as they approach, and a voice addresses them.

07:09Welcome to the land of harvest.

07:12Oh, how do you do, sir?

07:16I'm Rupert Bear.

07:17And I'm the emperor of corn.

07:21What can I do for you?

07:24Well, you see, the miller has no corn to grind this year, because it's been so wet, and the

07:30big machines get stuck in the mud.

07:32And I asked Sunny Spells to help me.

07:35I see.

07:36I didn't think you'd mind, sir.

07:39Of course I don't mind.

07:40I'm just wondering how I can help.

07:45Rupert waits while the emperor thinks.

07:48Sunny Spells, please bring me two bags of my very special grain.

07:55I'll get them from the harvest cabinet.

07:57I won't be long, he says as he leaves them.

08:00I do hope I'm not putting you to a lot of trouble, sir, exclaims Rupert.

08:04Why, of course not.

08:06It's our pleasure to help people, especially with the harvest crops.

08:12I have the two bags, emperor, says Sunny Spells.

08:16Please give these to the miller, and tell him that neither of the bags will ever empty.

08:22They are both extra special ones of corn and wheat, says the emperor.

08:28Perhaps I'll see you again.

08:30Goodbye for now.

08:31The hat lands them once more by the mill.

08:37Thank you, Sunny Spells.

08:39The miller should be pleased with these, says Rupert as they unload the sacks.

08:43Right, that's it then.

08:45I must away.

08:46And Rupert can still hear his laughter as he flies off.

08:55Rupert, calls Bill.

08:57Where have you been?

08:58And where did you get those sacks from?

09:01Oh, um, I've been to the land of harvest.

09:05Here you are, sir.

09:06You'll never, ever be without corn or wheat again.

09:11What a wonderful surprise.

09:13I shan't have to worry about the machines.

09:14But I've got another problem now.

09:18Oh, what's that, Mr. Miller?

09:20Asks Rupert.

09:21If only I could find the wooden pin for the mill wheel, I could start grinding again.

09:26I'm sure I was here this morning lying beside the wheel.

09:30Oh, I wonder.

09:33It's an horrible old piece of wood.

09:35I got it from that old building over there.

09:37But it tastes awful.

09:39There.

09:40And Rupert remembers the piece of wood that Raggedy threw away.

09:43Yes, I'm sure it's the bit.

09:46Edward, you and Bill help the miller take the sacks inside.

09:49I'll be back in a minute.

09:53Yes, it's still here.

09:54It must be the one.

09:57Soon the pin that Rupert's found makes the wheel go round and round.

10:02The miller's glad, no longer sad.

10:05And soon the wheat and corn is ground.

10:09Later, as Mrs. Bear is laying for tea, Rupert tells her all about the old mill.

10:15And he showed us how it all worked.

10:16So we'll have plenty to write about at school tomorrow.
