Today, Rupert travels through time in Rupert and Tiger Lily.
00:15
There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.
00:36
And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:50
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:57
In all of his name.
01:07
Come on, Rupert, aren't you ready yet?
01:10
Cries Podgy, hurrying up the garden path.
01:12
What for? Asks Rupert, surprised.
01:16
Don't you remember? We're going to Tiger Lily's for tea.
01:24
Edward and Bill have come to tea with Tiger Lily, too.
01:27
And it is a very good tea.
01:29
Oh, that was scrumptious, says Edward.
01:34
I can't eat another thing, sighs Podgy.
01:39
Oh, dear. Is that the time?
01:42
We'll have to go soon, says Rupert reluctantly.
01:45
But first, wait. I have something special to show you, Tiger Lily announces.
01:53
This is my father's magic wand.
01:56
And I have been practicing conjuring tricks.
01:59
Watch. Abra.
02:01
Cardabra.
02:03
And Podgy's handkerchief changes into a bunch of flowers.
02:07
Podgy isn't very pleased.
02:08
That's my best hanky, he protests.
02:13
All right, I change it, giggles Tiger Lily, waving her wand.
02:18
And this time, the hanky completely disappears.
02:22
Poor Podgy is horror-struck.
02:26
It's all right, chuckles Edward.
02:28
It's round my trunk.
02:31
But alas, all too soon, it's time to go.
02:35
That was smashing, says Rupert.
02:39
Thank you very much, Tiger Lily.
02:41
Goodbye.
02:43
Goodbye.
02:44
Goodbye.
02:46
Tiger Lily is so busy saying farewell to her friends
02:49
that she forgets all about the wand
02:51
and goes back into the house, leaving it lying on the grass.
02:56
She leaves the gate open, too.
02:59
Raggedy is out on the common nearby.
03:02
Oh, I'm hungry. I'm hungry, he says.
03:04
I love a nice, juicy bit of wood.
03:07
Something really special.
03:09
And there it is, he cries happily, and pounces on the wand.
03:14
Whee! Whee!
03:21
It tastes horrible, cries the little creature in disgust,
03:26
and he hurls it away.
03:28
The wand lands, splash, right in the middle of a puddle.
03:32
Tiger Lily, where's my wand?
03:35
I shall need it tonight.
03:37
I've got a show in town, says her father.
03:40
Oh, exclaims the little girl.
03:42
I remember.
03:44
I left it in the garden.
03:45
I'll get it.
03:47
But it isn't there.
03:50
That's strange.
03:51
I'm sure I left it here.
03:54
Oh, dear, oh, dear.
03:55
Daddy will be cross.
03:57
What shall I do?
03:59
I know.
04:00
I'll ask Rupert to help me look, she decides, hurrying through the gate.
04:05
Rupert! Rupert, come back, shouts Tiger Lily, waving frantically.
04:10
Why, what's the matter?
04:12
Asks Rupert, hurrying back.
04:14
You remember my daddy's wand?
04:16
Well, I've lost it, and he needs it tonight.
04:20
Please help me look, she begs.
04:22
Of course I will.
04:24
And so will we, adds Bill.
04:27
Hey, look, cries Podgy.
04:29
Look at those flowers growing round that puddle.
04:33
This is no time to look at flowers, protests Edward.
04:37
We're helping to look for a wand, remember?
04:40
But do look.
04:41
I've never seen anything like them before.
04:43
Oh, wowee, exclaims Bill.
04:47
They look magic to me.
04:50
Magic, gasps Tiger Lily.
04:52
Why, there must be something to do with daddy's magic wand.
04:57
Yes, look, here it is, cries Rupert.
05:01
It was in the middle of the puddle.
05:03
And he holds it up triumphantly.
05:06
It's only a bit wet, that's all.
05:09
Oh, Tiger Lily's worried.
05:12
Wands no good in water.
05:14
I try it.
05:16
Abra, kadabra.
05:18
And she points it at a bush.
05:20
What happened?
05:22
Oh, the bush should have flowers.
05:25
But nothing happened, sighs Tiger Lily.
05:29
Oh, dear.
05:30
The magic has all been washed away.
05:32
And daddy's conjuring show will be so dull with no magic.
05:36
And daddy will be so cross, she sobs.
05:40
Oh, please don't cry, says Rupert sympathetically.
05:44
Perhaps Willie will know what to do.
05:46
Cheer up, I'll call him.
05:49
Willie.
05:50
Hello, everyone.
05:52
Why, Tiger Lily, what's the matter?
05:54
Asks Willie, appearing suddenly.
05:56
My father's wand doesn't work anymore.
06:00
All the magic has been washed out, sobs the poor little girl.
06:03
And he's got a performance tonight.
06:06
Hmm, that's not so easy, says Willie thoughtfully.
06:11
The only person I know who can help is Merlin.
06:14
And that will mean going back in time.
06:16
Whizzerly whiz, gasps Rupert excitedly.
06:20
Can I come?
06:22
All right, says Willie.
06:24
Now put your hands over your eyes, Rupert, because this is going to be rough.
06:31
And it is.
06:33
Rupert hurtles round and round like a spinning top in the middle of nothing.
06:38
Twisting and twirling, whisking and whirling, back through time he goes.
06:43
Swerving and swirling, curving and curling, to an earlier century.
06:54
Rupert removes his hands, but he's so giddy, everything still seems to be going round.
06:59
And the poor little bear sits down with a bump.
07:02
Are you all right?
07:03
Asks Willie.
07:05
Oh, yes.
07:07
Rupert gets to his feet and looks around with interest.
07:10
For they're in a large cave, full of the most extraordinary apparatus.
07:16
And at a table sits an old wizard, reading an enormous book.
07:21
Hello, Willie Wisp.
07:23
I didn't see you arrive.
07:26
Good evening, Merlin.
07:27
How's everything at court these days?
07:29
Asks Willie.
07:31
King Arthur still busy?
07:33
Oh, my goodness, yes.
07:35
Sighs Merlin.
07:36
He keeps me at it.
07:38
Morning, noon and night.
07:40
This is Rupert, Willie explains.
07:43
And he has a problem.
07:45
Look.
07:47
Please, could you re-magic this wand?
07:49
Rupert asks, holding it out hopefully.
07:52
Oh, goodness me, exclaims Merlin.
07:55
It's soaking wet.
07:56
You shouldn't wash wands, Rupert.
07:58
But, but I...
08:00
That's the trouble with you people in the 20th century.
08:03
You will wash everything.
08:04
Grumbles Merlin, grumbles Merlin as he wipes the wand dry.
08:08
Fiddle-ly-dee.
08:09
Now listen to me.
08:10
And make yourself magic as quick as can be.
08:14
Cries Merlin, giving the wand a good shake.
08:16
He drops the wand.
08:17
And for a second it lies still.
08:21
And then suddenly it starts to quiver and shake all by itself on the floor.
08:26
There, says Merlin triumphantly.
08:29
I think you'll find that it will work all right.
08:33
If not better, chuckles Willie.
08:35
Thanks, Merlin.
08:36
Be seeing you.
08:37
But we must be off.
08:38
Well, goodbye, Willie.
08:41
Although I can't think why you want to live in the 20th century.
08:45
It's so noisy.
08:48
Goodbye, Rupert.
08:49
Good luck with the wand.
08:51
Goodbye.
08:52
And thanks.
08:55
Rupert is already whirling round and round again.
09:00
Twisting and twirling.
09:02
Whisking and whirling.
09:03
Forward through time goes he.
09:05
Swerving and swirling.
09:07
Curving and curling.
09:09
Into the 20th century.
09:14
And when he finally opens his eyes again.
09:17
He finds himself once more back on the common.
09:20
And Willie has gone.
09:22
Oh, Rupert, you work quick.
09:25
Exclaims Tiger Lily.
09:26
Come on, says Rupert.
09:28
We can take the wand back to your father now.
09:36
Tiger Lily's father's show is a great surprise.
09:39
He makes Rupert disappear from his seat.
09:41
Much to Mrs. Bear's alarm.
09:44
Oh, where's Rupert gone?
09:46
She cries.
09:47
Here he is.
09:48
Exclaims the conjurer.
09:49
As Rupert reappears beside him.
09:51
Everyone enjoys themselves.
10:00
And it's a very sleepy Rupert who stumbles back into his cottage that night.
10:04
He's the best conjurer I've ever seen, declares Mr. Bear.
10:10
Yes, it's the magic wand that does it, says Rupert.
10:13
Glad that he's been able to help Tiger Lily.
10:15
It makes everything special.
10:17
Rupert, Rupert, the bell.
10:34
Everyone's telling his name.
10:39
Rupert, Rupert, the bell.
10:42
Everyone's come and join in all of his games.
10:49
Rupert, Rupert, the bell.
10:53
Everyone's come and join in all of his games.
11:03
Rupert.
11:12
Rupert, Rupert, the bell.
11:13
Rupert, the bell.
