00:00Today, Rupert has an exciting adventure under the common, in Rupert and the Pothole.

00:16There's a little bear, like you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:23Children everywhere, don't love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:30There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done.

00:36And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

00:51Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.

01:04Rupert is in the kitchen with his mother, who is baking bread.

01:09A new club has been formed at school, says Rupert.

01:12What kind, dear? Asks Mrs. Bear, closing the oven door.

01:17It's a potholing club, replies Rupert.

01:20Oh, then you'll be able to mend my pots.

01:23No, laughs Rupert.

01:26When the potholers find a large hole in the ground, they go down it to explore.

01:31Oh, I see.

01:33But isn't that dangerous?

01:35Well, it can be, if you don't belong to a club.

01:39I would like to join.

01:41Well, you'd better ask Daddy.

01:42He's in the sitting room, suggests Mrs. Bear.

01:45I heard that, Rupert.

01:48And so long as you take great care, and always do exactly what the instructor tells you, you may join, smiles Mr. Bear.

01:58Oh, I will. Thank you.

02:00I must go and tell someone.

02:02I know. I'll walk over to Tiger Lily's and tell her.

02:06All right, says Mr. Bear.

02:08Hello, Edward, greets Rupert cheerfully.

02:12Where are you off to?

03:45On the common, Rupert finds something he's not seen there before.

03:56Look at this big hole, calls Rupert to his chums.

04:09Rupert falls down the hole, taking poor Edward with him.

04:17Oh, that wasn't too bad, was it?

04:22No, agrees Rupert.

04:24But we could have walked instead of fallen.

04:28Look, they went through there, says Ting Ling.

04:31I think we ought to go down after them, don't you?

04:38Rupert?

04:40Where are you?

04:43Oh, you made me jump.

04:46Isn't it dark down here?

04:49Your eyes will get used to it in a little while.

04:51Oh, yes, says Tiger Lily.

04:54I'm beginning to see better now.

05:21The explorers set off down the tunnel, with Rupert leading the way.

05:29These look like tree roots, says Ting Ling.

05:32It must be a big tree.

05:35Oh, look how that stone sparkles.

05:40And look, what's all this?

05:44They look like daffodil bulbs, don't they?

05:48It's raggedy, exclaims Rupert.

05:51What are you and your friends doing here, Rupert Bear?

05:55Asks Raggedy, who is very annoyed.

05:57You're trespassing in my wool store.

06:00Now that you're here, you'll have to stay forever and ever.

06:03Ah, what do you mean, stay forever and ever, asks Tiger Lily a little nervously.

06:10Just what I say.

06:11You are lost, and you'll have to stay down here forever.

06:14We're not lost, exclaims Rupert.

06:18Oh, yes you are, you'll see.

06:21And Raggedy is off.

06:23He's in a bad mood today, isn't he, says Edward.

06:27The four friends move on, but soon realise that Raggedy wasn't joking.

06:33Look, there's that sparkly stone again.

06:38He's right.

06:40We are lost.

06:42We should have waited till we had the instructor from school before we went potholing.

06:47Oh, dear, I'm tired, says Tiger Lily.

06:53I wish I was at home.

06:56Wait a minute.

06:57What's in here?

06:59It looks like a kitchen.

07:01Somebody's been washing some old dusters.

07:05What do you mean, old dusters?

07:07I'll have you know that's my best Sunday go-to-meeting suit.

07:10I don't know.

07:11You come, traipsing in here.

07:13Get out.

07:14Go on, get out.

07:16Oh, we're very sorry, Mr. Grimnasty.

07:18We can't find our way out.

07:20Would you tell us which way to go?

07:22Yes, go that way, says Grimnasty.

07:25But he's pointing the wrong way.

07:30On and on and round and round, the explorers travel underground.

07:38Past Root and Cobweb, Turn and then the sparkling stone they see again.

07:47Mr. Grimnasty must have shown us the wrong direction, sighs Edward.

07:52It looks just the same.

07:55Father, cries the delighted tiger lily.

08:00That was a good trick.

08:03Yes, and I don't want to stay too long.

08:06It's very cramped down here, says the Chinese conjurer.

08:10Let's start by opening the roof.

08:14Earth and root and weed, these people must be freed.

08:18So with my magic, I will try to make a hole and see the sky.

08:23And with these boxes, two, four, six, a flight of steps I'm going to fix.

08:30Now we can climb out, laughs Tiger Lily.

08:37I was worried when you didn't return home from the station on time, says Tiger Lily's father.

08:46And I was just on my way to find you when I met your friend, Raggety.

08:50Some friend, interrupts Edward.

08:58Well, he is really very sorry for being bad-tempered, and that is why he told me where you were.

09:08And I think now, you must go home, or both your mothers will be worried about you.

09:14What about the hole, sir?

09:16Asks Rupert.

09:21I will have to use some more magic, replies the Chinese conjurer.

09:37He can only stand and stare, laughs Rupert.

09:44But now we must go home, and so must you.

09:48Goodbye, and until you have an instructor, don't do any more potholing.

09:54It's much too dangerous.

10:00When are you going potholing, Rupert?

10:03Asks Mrs. Bear as she serves the tea.

10:07Replies Rupert, and he tells her of his adventure under the common.
