Today, Rupert goes on a treasure hunt, and finds Mr. Grimnasty in Rupert and the Croc of Gold.
00:16
There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done, and he's going to share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:51
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:57
Rupert, Rupert, Bill's here, calls Mrs. Bear.
01:15
Come quick, look, there's a rainbow, shouts Bill excitedly.
01:20
Oh, isn't it beautiful, says Mrs. Bear, looking up.
01:24
Did you know that in the olden days, people used to believe that there was a Croc of Gold buried at the end of every rainbow?
01:30
Wizardy-whiz, exclaims Rupert.
01:34
Come on, Bill, let's go and find it.
01:37
Mummy, can we borrow the spades?
01:39
All right, but mind you bring them back, and good luck with your treasure hunt.
01:43
Bye, shout Rupert and Bill cheerfully as they shoulder their spades.
01:50
Goodbye.
01:50
I can see it, I can see where it ends, shouts Bill.
01:58
Look, right by that bush.
02:01
But by the time they reach it, the rainbow has faded completely away.
02:06
It ended just here, says Bill firmly, and he starts to dig.
02:10
Hello, says Podgey, hurrying up.
02:14
What are you doing?
02:16
We're digging for the Croc of Gold, pants Rupert.
02:22
Dig, dig, dig, dig, Rupert and Bill, for digging is fun if you dig with a will.
02:28
They dig with a will and with all of their might, and Podgey sees them slowly sink out of sight.
02:35
Earth flies up and spatters all around, as they dig deeper into the ground.
02:42
Podgey peers down into the hole, just as there's a rumbling sound,
02:46
and the earth suddenly gives way beneath Rupert and Bill.
02:50
Look out!
02:54
Rupert and Bill scramble to their feet.
02:57
Wizardy whiz, look, exclaims Rupert, pointing at the neat shelves that surround them.
03:05
Podgey excitedly jumps down into the hole.
03:08
Yum, yum, he cries happily, picking up a pot of blackberry jam.
03:13
This is much nicer than a Croc of Gold.
03:18
What's that?
03:20
Rupert looks round, astonished as some of the earth is pushed to one side,
03:25
as the door opens in the side of the hole.
03:30
Why, Mr. Grimnasty?
03:32
Well, well.
03:36
And for once, Mr. Grimnasty is speechless.
03:40
Podgey has a horrible feeling that something is wrong somewhere.
03:45
We found this, he says, trying to wipe the jam off his chin,
03:49
instead of a Croc of Gold.
03:51
Mr. Grimnasty isn't listening.
03:53
My storeroom, my beautiful storeroom ruined, and my jam stolen.
04:01
But, but, but, stutters poor Podgey.
04:05
Oh, we didn't mean to.
04:06
We were looking for the Croc of Gold at the end of the rainbow, and, and...
04:10
That's enough, Rupert, not another word.
04:12
I'm going to see Constable Growler about this.
04:14
Mr. Grimnasty is so angry, that neither Rupert, nor Bill, nor Podgey wait to hear any more.
04:23
Mr. Grimnasty looks round him, and starts to think.
04:28
Now, if this is the end of the rainbow, and if there was a Croc of Gold, he mutters,
04:34
that gold would be mine, mine.
04:38
I'm rich, he chuckles, I'm rich.
04:42
Now, where's the spade?
04:44
Ah, and he begins to dig, and dig, and dig.
04:51
Raggety wanders into the storeroom, looking for his mid-morning snack of wood shavings.
04:55
Come on, there's another spade, and you can dig too.
04:58
What for? Another storeroom?
05:01
No, no, a Croc of Gold.
05:04
Oh, you can't eat gold.
05:06
It's not for eating, it's for spending.
05:09
Come on, dig.
05:11
For Mr. Grimnasty has gold fever.
05:15
Ah, what's this?
05:17
Mr. Grimnasty stoops down.
05:20
Why, it's my Croc of Gold, he cries delightedly.
05:24
And there are three of them.
05:28
Mr. Grimnasty can hardly believe his eyes.
05:31
He's so excited that he holds his breath as he slowly and carefully removes the lid from the first.
05:40
But, alas, it's empty.
05:44
Mr. Grimnasty, and so is the next, and the third.
05:50
Mr. Grimnasty is furious.
05:53
Now, what use are these?
05:55
He shouts angrily, peering into one, just to make sure.
05:58
Well, they certainly make lovely places to hide, decides Raggety, hastily jumping into one, for Mr. Grimnasty looks extremely cross.
06:08
Raggety? Raggety, where are you?
06:11
Rupert, Pudgy, and Bill are all sitting rather miserably in the garden, when Mr. Grimnasty comes up the garden path with the three pots.
06:24
Look what I've found, he shouts.
06:26
I thought I'd dig for the Croc of Gold, but all I've found are three empty ones.
06:30
Oh, goodness me, cries Mr. Bear excitedly as he examines the pots.
06:35
Why, these are really very old, Mr. Grimnasty.
06:38
I shall telephone the professor right away.
06:44
Come in and have a cup of tea, Mr. Grimnasty, says Mrs. Bear.
06:47
You must be worn out.
06:49
I am, Mrs. Bear, I am, he sighs.
06:53
We, we are truly sorry about breaking into your storeroom, says Rupert timidly.
07:00
Oh, that's all right, says Mr. Grimnasty.
07:03
And you must excuse me, he adds, but I have a terrible temper.
07:09
And as for the jam, Pudgy, continues Mr. Grimnasty, you're welcome to it.
07:15
Blackberry pips always get into my teeth.
07:18
The professor's coming right away, says Mr. Bear delightedly as he hurries in.
07:22
These pots are very dirty.
07:24
I'll wash them, suggests Mrs. Bear.
07:27
Oh, no, no, cries Mr. Bear.
07:30
The earth will help him place them time-wise, he explains.
07:34
Oh?
07:35
Mrs. Bear is surprised.
07:38
Hello, hello, cries the professor.
07:41
Goodness, you were quick, says Mr. Bear.
07:44
I ran all the way.
07:46
Now, where are they?
07:48
Oh, but they're beautiful.
07:50
And the professor plunges his hand inside one.
07:54
Oh, oh, something bit me.
07:56
Well, it's your fault, yells Raggedy, leaping suddenly out of the crock.
08:00
You shouldn't go sticking your fingers into people.
08:03
Raggedy, what were you doing in there, asks Rupert.
08:08
Raggedy giggles.
08:09
They make lovely hiding places, he explains.
08:13
Oh, Mrs. Bear, can I have a taste of that?
08:16
I'm so hungry.
08:17
All right, says Mrs. Bear, who's busy stirring a pudding.
08:21
And she holds out the spoon.
08:23
Oh, delicious.
08:24
Yum, yum, yum, yum.
08:27
Oh, Raggedy, I didn't mean the wooden spoon as well.
08:30
Now, there are plenty of twigs in the garden.
08:32
So off you go.
08:33
The professor's absorbed and mutters to himself as he gently scrapes away the earth round one of the pots.
08:42
Yes, yes, I believe.
08:44
Mmm, definitely, yes, yes, I'm sure.
08:49
Well, the professor beams at Mr. Grimnasty.
08:52
This is the finest example of pre-Roman pottery or even the beaky people I've ever seen.
09:00
And I should be so grateful if you would donate them to the museum, continues the professor.
09:06
Why, um, of course, of course.
09:10
We'll go right away then.
09:11
Come on, says the professor, picking up a pot.
09:14
Mr. Grimnasty picks up another, and Mr. Bear the third.
09:17
Well, well, well, let's go and bury one of our pots so people in a thousand years can find it, says Rupert excitedly.
09:27
No, Rupert, that's my favourite bowl, cries Mrs. Bear, rescuing it just in time.
09:32
You can bury this old mug of yours, she adds kindly.
09:37
The following morning, as Rupert, Mr. Bear and Mrs. Bear are sitting down for breakfast, there's a knock at the door.
09:44
Good morning, Mr. Grimnasty, says Rupert, surprised to see him up so early.
09:49
Look, look, he cries excitedly, holding up the morning paper.
09:54
And there, right on the front page, is a photograph of Mr. Grimnasty.
10:00
Wizardy whiz, exclaims Rupert, reading.
10:04
One of the greatest discoveries of our time.
10:08
Yes, and that's me, says Mr. Grimnasty proudly.
10:11
Oh, says Rupert, surprised.
10:15
I thought that meant the pots.
10:17
Rupert, Rupert, the bell, everyone's in his name.
10:40
Rupert, Rupert, the bell, everyone come and join.
10:44
Rupert, Rupert, Rupert, the bell, everyone come and join in all of his name.
10:59
Rupert, Rupert.
