00:00Today, Rupert finds that months with a P in them are different in Rupert and the Lonely

00:16Pillar Box.

00:17There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:23Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:30There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.

00:37And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

00:50Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join in all of his game.

01:06Rupert, be a good boy and post this letter for me, says Mrs. Bear.

01:11It's a pity that the Pillar Box is such a long way away, she sighs.

01:15It would be so handy to have one just outside the gate.

01:22Rupert arrives at the Pillar Box and is just about to post the letter when...

01:27Hey, stop!

01:30Rupert jumps and looks round, astonished.

01:33But there's no one in sight.

01:35He reaches up again, but...

01:37No more letters, definitely no more letters.

01:41I beg your pardon, stutters the astonished little bear.

01:46Did you say, no more letters?

01:49I did.

01:50And it's about time you cleaned your ears, young bear.

01:53I can't take any more letters, I'm full up to the brim.

01:56I'm so sorry, says Rupert, nervously beating a hastery retreat backwards, right into Mr. Grimnasty.

02:04Oh!

02:05Watch where you're going, young Rupert.

02:07Sorry, says Rupert automatically.

02:09But, Mr. Grimnasty, that Pillar Box spoke.

02:12It spoke to me.

02:14So it should.

02:15Pillar Boxes always speak when there's a P in the month.

02:18So any time during the months of September and April,

02:21you can hold a conversation with a pillar box.

02:24Oh, says Rupert, not sure that he wants to.

02:28Just then, Bill and Edward arrive.

02:31Hey, shouts Bill.

02:33Come on, Rupert.

02:34We're playing follow my leader, it's smashing.

02:37Oh, wizardy-whiz, wait for me!

02:39And Rupert joins in, forgetting all about Mrs. Bear's letter.

02:43And over the common go Edward, Bill and he, copying whatever they should see.

02:50Sometimes they leap or skip or jump, or hop along with a clump, clump, clump.

02:56Skipping and jumping yet again, until they reach a lonely lane.

03:01And there, right in the middle, is a Pillar Box.

03:06That's funny, says Bill, surprised.

03:09I don't remember seeing that before.

03:12It's a good thing it's there, because that reminds me.

03:16I've got a letter.

03:18Oh, um...

03:20Rupert hesitates.

03:22Excuse me, Mr. Pillar Box, but may I post this letter?

03:26He asks politely.

03:28Oh, Rupert, giggles Bill.

03:31And then he and Edward both gasp with astonishment, as the Pillar Box replies.

03:38I'm afraid you can't.

03:40It sighs.

03:41You see, nobody ever posts letters, nor collects them either.

03:47So there's not much point.

03:49But I'm so lonely.

03:52It cries miserably.

03:54I think I have been completely forgotten.

03:58Why, you poor old thing, says Rupert sympathetically.

04:02I know.

04:03I'll go and see Constable Growler.

04:05He may know what to do.

04:07But I must find another Pillar Box.

04:09But I've lost it.

04:11I've lost my letter.

04:13You must have dropped it on the common, says Edward.

04:16We'll help you look.

04:17Come on.

04:20Nobody ever remembers me, complains the Pillar Box sadly.

04:25And he sighs deeply.

04:27Rupert, Bill and Edward scour the common for Mrs. Bear's letter.

04:33But Raggedy is luckier.

04:38Cries Raggedy, pouncing on an envelope amongst the grass.

04:42But...

04:43Not very tasty.

04:45He decides, throwing it away again.

04:48Hey, who threw that?

04:50Cries Poggy, rubbing his head.

04:52Oh, hello Raggedy.

04:54Why are you throwing letters around?

04:56Letters?

04:57Says Raggedy.

04:58What good are they?

04:59It would make a nice dart, says Poggy, folding it.

05:02Look.

05:03Raggedy thinks this is great fun.

05:06And he and Poggy are having a fine game.

05:09When Rupert, Bill and Edward catch up with them at last.

05:12Look at this lovely dart, says Poggy, proudly throwing it.

05:17Rupert catches it.

05:18Why, Poggy, you found my mummy's letter.

05:22But Raggedy snatches it away.

05:24It's not yours, it's mine.

05:26I found it, and finders keepers.

05:28And the little creature runs off.

05:33I'll make you a really big dart, Rupert promises.

05:36But please, please give me my letter back.

05:39Oh, all right.

05:41The little creature reluctantly hands it over.

05:44Well, where's my dart?

05:47Raggedy asks eagerly, expecting Rupert to produce it right then and there.

05:51Well, I haven't any paper, but...

05:54Hey, we mustn't forget the pillar marks, cries Bill.

05:58Oh, yes.

05:59Let's go and see Constable Growler.

06:01And he's sure to have some paper.

06:03Come on, Raggedy.

06:04You come with me.

06:06P.C. Growler is just sitting down with a cup of tea.

06:10Oh, my poor fate, he groans as Rupert and Raggedy come in.

06:15Now then, young Rupert, what's wrong?

06:18Excuse me, Constable Growler.

06:20But there's a pillar box in the lane the other side of the common, Rupert explains.

06:24And it's been completely forgotten.

06:27Oh, dear me.

06:28P.C. Growler is surprised.

06:30I didn't know there was a pillar box there.

06:32He gets up to examine his map.

06:35Well, it shouldn't be there officially.

06:38At least I haven't received any information about the aforesaid pillar box.

06:42I shall ring the post office right away.

06:45P.C. Growler goes to the phone and gets to work.

06:48So does Raggedy.

06:50Oh, no, you don't.

06:54We must ask first, says Rupert, hastily rescuing an official-looking document.

06:59Why can't we make darts out of these, complains the little creature crossly.

07:03There's lots of paper here.

07:05Well, says P.C. Growler, returning triumphantly.

07:09I was right.

07:11That pillar box was...

07:13Now then, now then.

07:15And what are you up to, young Raggedy?

07:18Rupert promised to make me a big dart.

07:21He said you'd have lots of paper.

07:23A paper dart?

07:24Ah, ha, ha.

07:25That's my favourite hobby, says the constable happily.

07:28I have one somewhere.

07:30Let me see.

07:31Ah, here you are.

07:35Raggedy's overjoyed.

07:38Not in here, shouts Mr. Growler, rescuing his cup just in time.

07:45And not in the road, either, he adds as Raggedy hurries out.

07:50Well, now, as I was saying, I was right.

07:53The pillar box was not assigned to that spot.

07:56In fact, the post office had lost it, as it was placed there by mistake.

08:01And someone is going right away to remove it.

08:04Rupert is delighted.

08:06Oh, thank you.

08:07It'll be so glad, because it was miserable all by itself down there.

08:12Constable Growler is astonished.

08:14Miserable?

08:15Pillow boxes don't feel miserable?

08:18But Rupert's already gone.

08:21Poor Raggedy is in trouble again.

08:24Unfortunately, he's taken no notice of B.C. Growler's instructions not to play in the road.

08:30And his dart has gone straight into the pillar box's mouth.

08:39Don't eat my dart, cries Raggedy, crossly, pulling it out.

08:43That's mine, that is.

08:44And I don't want you swallowing it.

08:46And I don't want it, either.

08:49Chokes the poor pillar box.

08:51I'm full up with letters as it is, without you sticking those nasty paper darts into me as well.

08:58Hello, Mr. Pillar Box.

09:00Rupert hurries up.

09:01I've got good news for you, he continues.

09:03We've just found a pillar box that the post office had lost and...

09:06No, cries the pillar box delightedly.

09:09Thank you, Rupert.

09:11Thank you very much.

09:12I've been handling far too many letters.

09:15And it plays havoc with my digestion.

09:18You should play with that dart on the common, says Rupert.

09:22It's much safer.

09:23All right, Raggedy agrees.

09:28As Rupert walks along the lane towards his cottage, he sees...

09:33Hello, Mr. Pillar Box.

09:37This is my rightful place, it chortles happily.

09:42That's all right, says the little bear cheerfully.

09:45And, Rupert, you can have the honour of posting the first letter.

09:52Wizardy whiz!

09:53I'd almost forgotten, chuckles the little bear, gleefully popping it in.

09:57And it falls with a faint thud.

09:59Oh, I haven't heard that noise for days and days, sighs the pillar box contentedly.

10:07As Rupert hurries in to tell Mrs. Bear.

10:10Why, that's just what I needed, cries Mrs. Bear.

10:14And I've just written another letter.

10:16I'll go and post it right away.
