Today, Rupert finds that months with a P in them are different in Rupert and the Lonely
00:16
Pillar Box.
00:17
There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done.
00:37
And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:50
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join in all of his game.
01:06
Rupert, be a good boy and post this letter for me, says Mrs. Bear.
01:11
It's a pity that the Pillar Box is such a long way away, she sighs.
01:15
It would be so handy to have one just outside the gate.
01:22
Rupert arrives at the Pillar Box and is just about to post the letter when...
01:27
Hey, stop!
01:30
Rupert jumps and looks round, astonished.
01:33
But there's no one in sight.
01:35
He reaches up again, but...
01:37
No more letters, definitely no more letters.
01:41
I beg your pardon, stutters the astonished little bear.
01:46
Did you say, no more letters?
01:49
I did.
01:50
And it's about time you cleaned your ears, young bear.
01:53
I can't take any more letters, I'm full up to the brim.
01:56
I'm so sorry, says Rupert, nervously beating a hastery retreat backwards, right into Mr. Grimnasty.
02:04
Oh!
02:05
Watch where you're going, young Rupert.
02:07
Sorry, says Rupert automatically.
02:09
But, Mr. Grimnasty, that Pillar Box spoke.
02:12
It spoke to me.
02:14
So it should.
02:15
Pillar Boxes always speak when there's a P in the month.
02:18
So any time during the months of September and April,
02:21
you can hold a conversation with a pillar box.
02:24
Oh, says Rupert, not sure that he wants to.
02:28
Just then, Bill and Edward arrive.
02:31
Hey, shouts Bill.
02:33
Come on, Rupert.
02:34
We're playing follow my leader, it's smashing.
02:37
Oh, wizardy-whiz, wait for me!
02:39
And Rupert joins in, forgetting all about Mrs. Bear's letter.
02:43
And over the common go Edward, Bill and he, copying whatever they should see.
02:50
Sometimes they leap or skip or jump, or hop along with a clump, clump, clump.
02:56
Skipping and jumping yet again, until they reach a lonely lane.
03:01
And there, right in the middle, is a Pillar Box.
03:06
That's funny, says Bill, surprised.
03:09
I don't remember seeing that before.
03:12
It's a good thing it's there, because that reminds me.
03:16
I've got a letter.
03:18
Oh, um...
03:20
Rupert hesitates.
03:22
Excuse me, Mr. Pillar Box, but may I post this letter?
03:26
He asks politely.
03:28
Oh, Rupert, giggles Bill.
03:31
And then he and Edward both gasp with astonishment, as the Pillar Box replies.
03:38
I'm afraid you can't.
03:40
It sighs.
03:41
You see, nobody ever posts letters, nor collects them either.
03:47
So there's not much point.
03:49
But I'm so lonely.
03:52
It cries miserably.
03:54
I think I have been completely forgotten.
03:58
Why, you poor old thing, says Rupert sympathetically.
04:02
I know.
04:03
I'll go and see Constable Growler.
04:05
He may know what to do.
04:07
But I must find another Pillar Box.
04:09
But I've lost it.
04:11
I've lost my letter.
04:13
You must have dropped it on the common, says Edward.
04:16
We'll help you look.
04:17
Come on.
04:20
Nobody ever remembers me, complains the Pillar Box sadly.
04:25
And he sighs deeply.
04:27
Rupert, Bill and Edward scour the common for Mrs. Bear's letter.
04:33
But Raggedy is luckier.
04:36
What's this?
04:37
What's this?
04:38
Cries Raggedy, pouncing on an envelope amongst the grass.
04:42
But...
04:43
Not very tasty.
04:45
He decides, throwing it away again.
04:48
Hey, who threw that?
04:50
Cries Poggy, rubbing his head.
04:52
Oh, hello Raggedy.
04:54
Why are you throwing letters around?
04:56
Letters?
04:57
Says Raggedy.
04:58
What good are they?
04:59
It would make a nice dart, says Poggy, folding it.
05:02
Look.
05:03
Raggedy thinks this is great fun.
05:06
And he and Poggy are having a fine game.
05:09
When Rupert, Bill and Edward catch up with them at last.
05:12
Look at this lovely dart, says Poggy, proudly throwing it.
05:17
Rupert catches it.
05:18
Why, Poggy, you found my mummy's letter.
05:22
But Raggedy snatches it away.
05:24
It's not yours, it's mine.
05:26
I found it, and finders keepers.
05:28
And the little creature runs off.
05:30
Weehee!
05:31
Weehee!
05:32
Weehee!
05:33
I'll make you a really big dart, Rupert promises.
05:36
But please, please give me my letter back.
05:39
Oh, all right.
05:41
The little creature reluctantly hands it over.
05:44
Well, where's my dart?
05:47
Raggedy asks eagerly, expecting Rupert to produce it right then and there.
05:51
Well, I haven't any paper, but...
05:54
Hey, we mustn't forget the pillar marks, cries Bill.
05:58
Oh, yes.
05:59
Let's go and see Constable Growler.
06:01
And he's sure to have some paper.
06:03
Come on, Raggedy.
06:04
You come with me.
06:06
P.C. Growler is just sitting down with a cup of tea.
06:10
Oh, my poor fate, he groans as Rupert and Raggedy come in.
06:15
Now then, young Rupert, what's wrong?
06:18
Excuse me, Constable Growler.
06:20
But there's a pillar box in the lane the other side of the common, Rupert explains.
06:24
And it's been completely forgotten.
06:27
Oh, dear me.
06:28
P.C. Growler is surprised.
06:30
I didn't know there was a pillar box there.
06:32
He gets up to examine his map.
06:35
Well, it shouldn't be there officially.
06:38
At least I haven't received any information about the aforesaid pillar box.
06:42
I shall ring the post office right away.
06:45
P.C. Growler goes to the phone and gets to work.
06:48
So does Raggedy.
06:50
Oh, no, you don't.
06:54
We must ask first, says Rupert, hastily rescuing an official-looking document.
06:59
Why can't we make darts out of these, complains the little creature crossly.
07:03
There's lots of paper here.
07:05
Well, says P.C. Growler, returning triumphantly.
07:09
I was right.
07:11
That pillar box was...
07:13
Now then, now then.
07:15
And what are you up to, young Raggedy?
07:18
Rupert promised to make me a big dart.
07:21
He said you'd have lots of paper.
07:23
A paper dart?
07:24
Ah, ha, ha.
07:25
That's my favourite hobby, says the constable happily.
07:28
I have one somewhere.
07:30
Let me see.
07:31
Ah, here you are.
07:35
Raggedy's overjoyed.
07:38
Not in here, shouts Mr. Growler, rescuing his cup just in time.
07:44
Outside.
07:45
And not in the road, either, he adds as Raggedy hurries out.
07:50
Well, now, as I was saying, I was right.
07:53
The pillar box was not assigned to that spot.
07:56
In fact, the post office had lost it, as it was placed there by mistake.
08:01
And someone is going right away to remove it.
08:04
Rupert is delighted.
08:06
Oh, thank you.
08:07
It'll be so glad, because it was miserable all by itself down there.
08:12
Constable Growler is astonished.
08:14
Miserable?
08:15
Pillow boxes don't feel miserable?
08:18
But Rupert's already gone.
08:21
Poor Raggedy is in trouble again.
08:24
Unfortunately, he's taken no notice of B.C. Growler's instructions not to play in the road.
08:30
And his dart has gone straight into the pillar box's mouth.
08:39
Don't eat my dart, cries Raggedy, crossly, pulling it out.
08:43
That's mine, that is.
08:44
And I don't want you swallowing it.
08:46
And I don't want it, either.
08:49
Chokes the poor pillar box.
08:51
I'm full up with letters as it is, without you sticking those nasty paper darts into me as well.
08:58
Hello, Mr. Pillar Box.
09:00
Rupert hurries up.
09:01
I've got good news for you, he continues.
09:03
We've just found a pillar box that the post office had lost and...
09:06
No, cries the pillar box delightedly.
09:09
Thank you, Rupert.
09:11
Thank you very much.
09:12
I've been handling far too many letters.
09:15
And it plays havoc with my digestion.
09:18
You should play with that dart on the common, says Rupert.
09:22
It's much safer.
09:23
All right, Raggedy agrees.
09:25
Weehee!
09:28
As Rupert walks along the lane towards his cottage, he sees...
09:31
Why?
09:33
Hello, Mr. Pillar Box.
09:35
What are you doing here?
09:37
This is my rightful place, it chortles happily.
09:40
And thank you, Rupert.
09:42
That's all right, says the little bear cheerfully.
09:45
And, Rupert, you can have the honour of posting the first letter.
09:51
Oh, yes!
09:52
Wizardy whiz!
09:53
I'd almost forgotten, chuckles the little bear, gleefully popping it in.
09:57
And it falls with a faint thud.
09:59
Oh, I haven't heard that noise for days and days, sighs the pillar box contentedly.
10:07
As Rupert hurries in to tell Mrs. Bear.
10:10
Why, that's just what I needed, cries Mrs. Bear.
10:14
And I've just written another letter.
10:16
I'll go and post it right away.
10:18
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone's telling his name.
10:39
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
10:47
In all of these games.
10:50
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
10:58
In all of these games.
11:04
Rupert.
