00:00Today, Rupert and his chums help the Station Master in Rupert and Nutwood Station.

00:30There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done, and he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

01:05While Mrs Bear is dusting the bookcase, Mr Bear is catching up with the news.

01:11It says here that there's to be a competition for the best kept railway station in the country, he says.

01:19Rupert, who's playing with his toy engine, looks up. Is there a prize given to the winner?

01:27It'll be nice if Nutwood can win it, smiles Mrs Bear.

01:31I must go and tell my friends, Mummy. Perhaps we can help the Station Master.

01:37Rupert gets into his magic chariot and is away.

01:41Bill Badger, Edward Trunk and Pudgy Pig are playing rounders on the common.

01:55What's wrong? asks Edward worriedly.

01:59Nothing's wrong. I've just come to let you know that there's a competition for the best kept railway station.

02:20Anyway, I'm going home now to have a snack, says Pudgy leaving the chums.

02:42Hello, Rupert. Are you taking a train ride today? inquires the Station Master at the door.

02:57Why, the prize for the best kept station, of course. It's in the paper.

04:41Edward arrives back first, but Rupert isn't far behind.

04:45Look, I've got some paint too. I think it's the same colour as the waiting room door, he says.

04:51Rupert, Edward, I've got the broom. Right, here we go then.

04:57Into the station march all three.

05:00They must be done in time for tea.

05:03Bill sweeps the rubbish into a pile, while Edward sees the knobs are shining in style.

05:09Rupert takes all the weeds from the bed and makes the earth smooth and flat instead.

05:15It's a pity we haven't got any flowers though, says Bill as he comes to see how Rupert is doing.

05:21Yes, I don't think they'd grow in time if we planted some seeds now, do you?

05:27Well, well, you're getting on in fine style, I can see.

05:42Then the station master has a good idea.

05:46The 3.20 to Shrimpton Sands is due about now. If you were to go on it, you could be back by 4.30.

05:58At the seaside. Ooh, let's go Rupert.

06:02Right, I'll give you a special ticket as you're going on railway business.

06:06The countryside passes by at speed. They'll soon be at the seaside now indeed.

06:12They've never travelled alone before, but the guard will look after them, that's for sure.

06:21The beach looks a bit short of shells today, as the chums survey the scene.

06:26Oh dear, sighs Rupert. I don't think we're going to get very many here.

06:32Well, let's split up and see what we can do. We haven't much time, says Edward going in one direction.

06:39I'll go this way.

06:41Rupert looks around, and just near the mouth of a cave, he sees a very large shell.

06:48Perhaps there'll be some more inside too, he says hopefully.

06:52As he stoops to pick the shell up, a voice booms at him.

06:57Leave me alone. I was just resting.

07:02Oh, I'm sorry. I thought...

07:05Rupert looks in astonishment.

07:07The shell has become a hat, and underneath it is a little man all dressed in seaweed.

07:13What do you want? he demands.

07:16I'm looking for cockle shells, you see, because you can't just come along here and take away shells.

07:24I am the shell collector in chief, he announces proudly.

07:29And we've just had our collection for today.

07:32Oh, I see. That's why there aren't any on the beach.

07:36We use them to make sand.

07:40To make sand? exclaims Rupert.

07:43Yes, of course. Come with me and you'll see.

07:47And he glides into the back of the cave.

07:49Rupert follows warily, not knowing what he might find.

07:54Then he hears a rumble crunch, rumble crunch.

07:58The little man has led him into a big cavern, which is almost filled with a large machine.

08:04This is where the sand is made, declares the collector.

08:08As Rupert sees another little man feeding cockle shells into one side,

08:13and out at the other side comes sand.

08:16Oh, I didn't know you needed the shells. We won't take them anymore.

08:21Well, what did you want them for anyway?

08:24Rupert explains about how they need the shells to write the word nut wood on the flower bed of the station,

08:31to help them win the prize.

08:33Well, perhaps we could spare one of these bags. It's only a drop in the ocean to us.

08:39Thank you very much, says Rupert gratefully, as the little man gives him a sackful.

08:44I'm afraid I must go now, or I shall miss the train back. Goodbye.

08:51Edward and Bill are already in the train when Rupert staggers on with his sack.

08:55Oh, Rupert, we thought you were going to miss it, says Bill as the train gathers speed.

09:01You've got a lovely lot of shells. Where did you get them?

09:05Yes, we only got four between us, says Edward.

09:10Oh, I met the shell collector in chief, says Rupert airily.

09:15They make a good job of nut wood when they arrive back.

09:19Very good, very good, and just in time too, says the station master,

09:25as he hears the chief inspector's car draw up. I must go and meet him.

09:30And I proudly present Nutwood station with the carp.

09:37Rupert and his chums are very proud.

09:40And the station master invites them to a special buffet tea.

09:44Pongy will be sorry he went home for his snack when we tell him about this, says Bill as they all tuck in.

09:51Did you find your friends and tell them about the competition, dear? asks Mrs Bear.

09:56Yes, Mummy. And what do you think? Nutwood station won the silver cup.

10:02Well, I never. Now come and have your tea.

10:06I'm not hungry. We had a special tea with the station master.

10:11Oh, well. We can't compete with silver cups, I suppose.
