00:00Today, Rupert learns more than he expects about sheep farming in Australia, in Rupert

00:16and the Computer.

00:17There's a little bear, like you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:25Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:31There's a million stories to be told, of the things that he's done.

00:38And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

00:51Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join in all of his game.

01:02Come on, Rupert, breakfast's ready, calls Mrs. Bear.

01:11I'll go, Mummy.

01:15Rupert opens the door, and the Professor comes staggering in.

01:20Good morning, good morning, he says cheerfully, mopping his forehead.

01:25Can you tell me what time your school starts, he asks Rupert.

01:30Nine o'clock, replies the little bear, surprised.

01:33There's plenty of time yet, says Mrs. Bear.

01:37We're just going to have breakfast.

01:39Would you like some?

01:40Oh, yes, please, the Professor replies gratefully.

01:44Now, I wonder why I'm so hungry.

01:46I had lunch yesterday, or was it the day before?

01:50Rupert can contain his curiosity no longer.

01:54What have you got in that box?

01:57Aha, it's a teacher computer unit, the Professor explains proudly.

02:03And I want to try it out at your school.

02:06You'll find you won't need a teacher anymore.

02:09Mr. Bear chuckles.

02:11I wonder.

02:13The teacher finds it fascinating.

02:16He's so intent that he doesn't see Edward, Bill and Margot arrive,

02:20nor does he notice that Hodgie is just a little late.

02:25Well, would you like to give my teacher computer unit a try?

02:29Asks the Professor at last.

02:31Oh, yes, I could do with a day off, says the teacher enthusiastically.

02:35It's just the weather for gardening, and I've got so behind.

02:39And I must get back to my lab at once, cries the Professor.

02:43I've just thought, if I neutralize...

02:46And he hurries off, intent on his latest invention.

02:50But, but...

02:53Oh, well, I think we've got the main points clear, says the teacher.

02:58Don't you, Rupert?

03:00Yes, I think so.

03:02Good, good.

03:03Then I'll leave you in charge.

03:05I'm just outside in the garden, if you need me.

03:08And I want you all to do a project on Australia, he adds as he goes out.

03:13I don't know anything about Australia, wails Podgy.

03:18But that's what the teacher computer unit is for, says Rupert.

04:01This machine is better than the teacher, declares the little pig happily.

04:06But the machine hasn't stopped.

04:08A whole lot of apples tumble out and roll all over the floor.

04:14The class is in an uproar as the children crawl around picking up fruit.

04:19Shhh, shhh, this is Margo, or teacher will hear you.

04:26Can I ask it something now and press a button?

04:30No.

04:31I'm in charge, says Rupert firmly.

04:33This is a very complicated machine.

04:36Let's see.

04:37They have lots of sheep farms, so we'll find out about that.

04:43He presses a button.

04:44And an Australian sheep farmer appears in the middle of the classroom.

04:48of the classroom. He's not pleased, not pleased at all. Now, what's the meaning of this cobber?

04:55He demands, brandishing his shears. There I was in the middle of shearing me sheep, and now...

05:01He looks round, bewildered. Um, excuse me, sir, stutters Rupert. You're in a classroom.

05:09In England, adds Bill helpfully. England? Yes, and we'd be most grateful if you could tell us

05:16about sheep farming, Rupert asks politely. I haven't got time to sit down and tell a bunch

05:21of kids about sheep farming. You just send me back down under pronto. Oh, all right, says

05:27Rupert, not sure how this is done. He presses a button. But the Australian is still there.

05:39What's that noise? asks Margot, alarmed. The Australian waves his shears even more angrily.

05:47Blimey! Not content with bringing me all the way to the old country? You go and bring

05:51the sheep as well. I'm... I'm sorry, stutters poor Rupert. The teacher hurries into the classroom.

05:59Children! Children! Come quickly and help drive the sheep out of my garden, he cries urgently.

06:05Hey! shouts the Australian, brandishing his shears. I beg your pardon, says the teacher,

06:10startled. Peacey growler comes in. Now then, now then, what's going on here? There are sheep everywhere.

06:18They're mine, and I insist that me and my sheep are returned down under pronto, but pronto.

06:30Well, your sheep are causing an obstruction, they are, and don't you wave those shears at

06:35me? cries the constable, getting out his notebook. Potty hides under the table.

06:41Wizarding whiz! gasps Rupert. I'll go and get the professor. And he leaves the three men arguing

06:47while he jumps into his chariot. The professor is so absorbed in his latest invention, he's

06:53rather reluctant to leave it. Computer? What computer? he asks as Rupert explains as best he can.

06:59Your teacher computer unit. My? Oh yes, isn't it working? Yes, and only too well, groans the little bear.

07:11Don't worry, I'll soon fix it, says the professor, as Rupert hurries him out.

07:18Sheep farming's my occupation. Although England's a close relation, please return me to my country

07:24once again, cries the sheep farmer. The teacher stands miserably by the computer. This is the

07:31oddest situation. If only I had the information to return you to your country once again.

07:38PC growler mops his brow, feeling very worried. I can't accept the realization that there are sheep

07:45inside my station, which I wish you'd take to your country once again. No, it's all my own creation,

07:54a matter of synchronization, before you return to your country once again, declares the professor

08:00as he hurries in. He presses a button.

08:02And Nutwood is once more its peaceful self.

08:11Oh, thank you, professor, says the constable, returning to his beat.

08:18No, you, says the professor to the Australian.

08:21No, hang on a moment, Cobber. I reckon that machine would be just dandy for my kids.

08:28You see, we haven't any schoolhouse near us down under, and my kids have to study with the TV.

08:34I'd like to buy one of these here computers, he decides. The professor is overjoyed.

08:40I shall make you one right away, with a few modifications, he adds. Good on you, Cobber.

08:46I would be most grateful, says the teacher, since you're here, if you would give a little

08:52talk about your wonderful country to my class. The sheep farmer agrees, and the children enjoy

08:59it so much that they're sorry to hear the bell. Well, now I'm afraid I really must be off,

09:06says the sheep farmer. All right, are you ready, asks the professor. Yes, ready. Goodbye, kids,

09:14and if ever you should visit down under, don't forget to look me up.

09:20And he's gone. Everyone's sorry to see him go. Professor, says Rupert, are you going to leave

09:28the teacher computer unit here? Because we don't really need it, says Bill. You see, we've got a

09:35teacher already, adds Edward. Oh, all right, I'll send it to Australia then, says the professor. I'll take

09:43it to the post office right away. Rupert, calls Mrs. Bear. A parcel has come for you.

09:51For me? It's not my birthday, says Rupert, surprised. Well, come on, open it.

10:00Oh, look! Rupert holds up a red woolen coat. It's from the Australian sheep farmer, he cries,

10:07opening up the letter. And it's made from the wool of the very sheep he was in the middle of shearing,

10:14when the teacher computer unit brought him to our school.
