Today, Rupert visits the witch in Rupert and the Bedoozleman.
00:16
There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done.
00:36
And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:50
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:56
Rupert, Rupert, Rupert, Rupert is enjoying a nice swing in the sunshine, when his mother calls him from the kitchen.
01:10
Rupert, says Mrs. Bear, can you come here a minute?
01:15
Yes, Mummy, says Rupert, getting off the swing.
01:19
Ah, there you are.
01:21
I think you ought to take these boots to the bootmenders, dear.
01:24
They must be letting in water.
01:27
Yes, all right, Mummy.
01:28
And the ones I've got on won't last much longer, either, he says, taking the boots.
01:33
They'll take a couple of days, I expect.
01:36
You'd better go straight away before the shop shuts.
01:39
Hello, Rupert, says Pudgy Pig at the back door.
01:42
Pudgy, I know I invited you to tea, but you're a bit early.
01:47
Oh, am I?
01:49
Says Pudgy, eyeing the freshly made cakes.
01:52
Yes, you can come with me to the bootmenders first.
01:56
Off you go, then.
01:57
I must make some scones now, says Mrs. Bear, looking for the flower.
02:02
Rupert and Pudgy are hurrying over the common, when they catch sight of Raggedy's back view.
02:09
Is he looking at something?
02:10
Wonders Rupert.
02:12
Rupert lands beside him.
02:15
Oh, Rupert, what are you doing? You made me jump, says Raggedy, turning round.
02:20
What are you doing?
02:21
We stop to find out.
02:23
Well, come and look here.
02:26
I'm singing away at this funny old rhyme.
02:28
I'm having an uncopper-bubulous time.
02:30
It's a happy, hilarious, moochifous day, and I'm...
02:34
As the three of them watch, the little man stops dancing and tries to jump off the ground.
02:40
It's not a happy, hilarious day at all, at all.
02:43
It's a melon-clunker's one.
02:45
And he sits down in frustration on a log.
02:48
Ahem, ahem, ahem, ahem, hello.
02:52
I'm Rupert Bear, and this is Pudgy and Raggedy.
02:57
Um, what are you doing?
03:00
Is it an idiot you are?
03:02
Isn't it obvious to a duck with his head in the sand what I'm doing?
03:05
I'm bedoosaling.
03:07
Least ways I'm trying to, he adds sadly.
03:10
P-B-Doozaling, exclaims Raggedy, feeling braver now.
03:16
What's that?
03:17
Is it like sleeping?
03:19
You never heard of it?
03:21
Do you mean you don't bedoosal?
03:23
Oh, you poor souls.
03:25
It's jumping up in the air, spinning round and flying off.
03:28
It's the only way to travel.
03:29
Um, why can't you, uh, bedoosal then, inquires Rupert.
03:37
I'll tell you me story.
03:39
I'm from over the water.
03:41
There I was, making me boots.
03:43
But I see a rainbow.
03:45
A beautiful, glorious rainbow.
03:47
A rainbow?
03:49
Yes, that's what he said.
03:51
Go on.
03:52
Well, I thought I'll maybe find a crock of gold.
03:56
So I bedoosaled up and flew off like a cock out of a bottle.
04:01
I had the great misfortune to collide with an old witch in midair.
04:06
She was not too keen on the idea.
04:09
She put a spell on me so that I couldn't bedoosal anymore once I'd landed.
04:13
Oh, dear.
04:15
Well, I'd lost sight of the rainbow by that time and I couldn't go on flying forever.
04:20
So I landed here to enjoy myself.
04:23
But I miss the old rain and me friends.
04:27
I want to go home.
04:29
We could go and see the witch and get her to take the spell off.
04:33
But how can you?
04:35
It's a long way and you can't bedoosal.
04:38
Oh, I've got a magic chariot, explains Rupert.
04:41
I don't like witches much.
04:43
I think I'll stay and keep you company, says Raggedy to the little man.
04:47
You'll come, won't you, Pudgy?
04:48
Um, uh, all right.
04:52
He's none too keen either.
04:54
Oh, that's a great old vehicle, exclaims the little man, admiring the chariot.
05:00
But how will we find the witch?
05:02
How?
05:03
How?
05:04
The chariot's magic, isn't it?
05:06
They'll just take off, of course.
05:07
The chariot is travelling over the trees, over the common with the northerly breeze, through
05:15
thunder and lightning and cold, cold air, till Pudgy and Rupert wish they were there.
05:21
Long the mountainy ridge and the bare trees they follow, until they come down in a dark,
05:27
dark hollow.
05:27
Here we are, Pudgy.
05:30
This must be where the witch lives.
05:32
In that cave over there.
05:37
Do you think I could stay here and look after the chariot for you, Rupert?
05:41
No, Pudgy.
05:42
I might need some help persuading the witch.
05:44
Come on.
05:45
The witch is having a snooze by her fire when the chums enter.
05:50
She's asleep, Rupert.
05:52
Let's go.
05:56
Starts the witch, shaken out of her slumber.
05:58
Oh, you gave me a start.
06:01
Please, we're sorry to disturb you, but we've come to ask if you can do something for us.
06:07
Well, I like to think I'm a help for a witch.
06:10
I'll do what I can.
06:11
You see, we met a man who says he came from over the water.
06:16
But while he was flying through the air, he bumped into you, and...
06:20
Ah, the bedoosal man.
06:22
Yes, I remember.
06:24
I'm not doing anything to help him.
06:26
He made me drop my special mixing stick.
06:29
I'm lost without it.
06:31
No, definitely not.
06:33
But please.
06:35
Anyway, I can't take the spell off without mixing a spell.
06:39
And I've got no stick.
06:41
So there.
06:43
Well, can we find it for you then?
06:46
Asks Rupert.
06:47
Oh, I know where it is, but I can't reach it.
06:51
It fell down between the rocky crags.
06:55
But there's not room to fly my broomstick between them.
06:59
We won't be able to get there in the chariot then, will we, Rupert?
07:03
Not in the chariot, but out of it.
07:06
Ah, if you could just lend us a rope and tell us where the rocky crags are.
07:12
The rocky crags don't look very inviting.
07:16
And right down the bottom is the mixing stick.
07:18
Now, you hover here in the chariot and hang on to the rope, Pudgy, says Rupert, tying one end of the rope round himself.
07:27
Oh, oh no, Rupert, it's not safe.
07:30
I might fall out.
07:31
Oh, Pudgy, you're doing the easy part, he laughs.
07:34
Rupert has tied the other end round the steering wheel and starts to lower himself over the side.
07:42
Oh, you're rocking the chariot, squeals Pudgy.
07:45
Just hang on.
07:47
I'm going down now.
07:51
Rupert slides carefully down the rope, while Pudgy above holds on tight.
07:57
The mixing stick now is within his grope.
08:00
Oh, careful, please, Rupert, cries Pudgy in fright.
08:03
I'm coming up now, calls Rupert, who has the precious stick.
08:08
He ties it onto the rope and starts the journey back.
08:13
Oh, ee, ee, ee, ee, wails Pudgy.
08:16
I'll be glad when we get home.
08:19
The witch is very pleased to see her mixing stick again and gets to work right away.
08:25
Borrowday moss and caraway seed, mix it together, that's what we need, sings the witch happily.
08:32
Now, all you have to do is sprinkle this powder on the bedoosal man and the spell will be broken.
08:39
Back on the common, Raggedy is learning a new dance when Rupert and Bill fly down.
08:44
Rupert sprinkles the spell-breaking powder on the bedoosal man.
08:49
Now you'll be all right again, he says.
08:52
The little man holds his hat.
08:55
Woo-hoo, he yells, making Pudgy jump.
08:59
Bedoosal, I can bedoosal.
09:01
Oh, thank you, thank you, I can go home.
09:07
Rupert suddenly remembers he was supposed to be on his way to the bootmenders.
09:12
Oh, dear, they'll be shut now, he sighs.
09:16
What? Who will be? What ails you?
09:18
I should have got to the bootmenders before closing time, Rupert explains.
09:22
No trouble, me dear, says the little man, taking out a hammer and grabbing the boots.
09:29
Aren't I best bootmaker in the West?
09:32
A tap and a wrap, a heel and a toe, your boots are done and off I go.
09:36
Bedoosal!
09:37
He's in the air and off, leaving the astonished three staring after him.
09:42
Mrs. Bear has just finished her cooking when Rupert and Pudgy return.
09:50
Rupert, you were supposed to leave those boots at the menders, she exclaims.
09:56
But they're done already, Mummy.
09:58
Yes, and very good too, agrees Pudgy.
10:02
Oh, yes, they are, aren't they?
10:05
I'll send you with mine tomorrow.
10:08
But the bedoosal man did these, and he won't be there tomorrow.
10:12
What are you talking about, Rupert?
10:15
