Today, Rupert finds cobwebs everywhere in Rupert and the Man in the Moon.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told of the things that he's done, and he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name. Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:58
Look at the time, exclaims Mrs. Bear. It's five past five. I must get the tea ready, so you tidy away your things.
01:16
Rupert picks up a book. The Man in the Moon came down too soon, he reads.
01:23
I wonder if the moon is up yet. He goes to the window.
01:28
Oh, look it is, and it's a lovely night. I wish I could go out.
01:35
The poor little bear is feeling sad, for it's been raining all day long, so he hasn't been out yet.
01:42
Well, you can go for a ride in your chariot over the common to get some fresh air while I get the tea, suggests Mrs. Bear.
01:49
But don't be too long. It's exciting flying at night. All is quiet, and the familiar common looks dark and mysterious.
01:59
Suddenly Rupert spies Raggedy below. The little creature sees Rupert and beckons frantically.
02:06
Rupert lands beside him. There's a funny-looking man on the common, whispers Raggedy. Look!
02:13
Rupert sees a strange-looking man sitting on a bench nearby, eating something from a bowl.
02:20
How odd! exclaims Rupert. It's much too cold for a picnic. Perhaps he's lost.
02:27
He and Raggedy move nearer.
02:30
Hello! cries the man, looking up and waving cheerfully. Would you like some cold porridge?
02:37
Before Rupert can reply, the man leaps up suddenly, dropping his bowl, and jumps about holding his mouth.
02:44
Oh, oh, oh, I burnt my mouth, he cries, with supping cold plum porridge.
02:52
He sits. Ah, that's better. I'm all right now.
02:56
You, you must be the man in the moon.
03:00
The man nods. Why, yes. However, did you guess?
03:04
I know the rhyme! cries the little bear excitedly.
03:07
And he recites it, while the man in the moon beats time with his spoon.
03:12
The man in the moon came down too soon and asked his way to Norwich.
03:17
He went by the south and burnt his mouth with supping cold plum porridge.
03:22
Ah, I'm famous, am I? Then I must go to Norwich, by the south, of course.
03:28
Well, it's a long way from here, says Rupert. You'll have to take a train.
03:33
Shall I give you a lift to the station?
03:36
Thank you, says the man in the moon.
03:38
That would be a great help.
03:40
I thought it would make a nice change, he continues, excitedly waving his spoon at Rupert.
03:46
You see, the moon has got so busy these days.
03:50
Astronauts keep dropping in and leaving bits of machinery all over the place, he grumbles,
03:55
as he scrambles into the chariot beside Rupert.
03:58
Can I come too? asks Raggedy, with his eye on the man in the moon's wooden spoon.
04:04
All right, says Rupert, holding the chariot steady.
04:08
He takes off and heads towards the village.
04:11
There's a flash of lights and the sound of a car below.
04:15
Ooh, what's that? cries the man in the moon.
04:18
Just a car, says Rupert, surprised.
04:21
Ooh!
04:22
He jumps nervously as another car goes by below.
04:26
And Rupert swoops down towards the station, just as the express train thunders through.
04:32
Ooh, help, a monster! cries the man in the moon, accidentally hitting Rupert on the head with his spoon.
04:41
Ow! Rupert rubs his head.
04:45
That's not a monster, that's a train, he giggles.
04:49
You're going to Norwich on one like that.
04:52
Oh, no, decidedly no, declares the man in the moon.
04:56
I'm going straight back where I came from.
04:59
The astronauts are not nearly as bad as that.
05:02
And he looks up.
05:04
Ooh, dear.
05:05
Where's the moon gone?
05:07
It's all right.
05:09
The clouds are in the way, says Rupert soothingly.
05:12
I'll fly you above them.
05:14
The chariot flies up through the swirling, whirling mist, carrying the man in the moon.
05:21
And so, at first, neither he nor Rupert missed Raggedy and the wooden spoon.
05:28
Hey, stop, my spoon!
05:31
It's gone!
05:32
He bellows so suddenly and so loudly that poor Rupert jumps in alarm.
05:37
Oh, dear!
05:39
Raggedy's missing, too.
05:41
We'll have to go back and look for them.
05:43
Help!
05:44
Help!
05:45
Horrid cloud!
05:46
Help!
05:47
I'm sinking!
05:48
There he is!
05:49
cries Rupert, swooping down towards a thick cloud.
05:53
And there is Raggedy, buried up to his waist,
05:57
frantically waving the half-eaten spoon.
06:00
I'm stuck!
06:01
He wails.
06:02
Pull me out!
06:03
Really, Raggedy?
06:04
scolds Rupert.
06:05
That was very naughty of you.
06:07
But he isn't cross for long.
06:09
For the poor little creature is shivering with cold.
06:12
And his teeth are chattering like castanets.
06:15
I...
06:16
I...
06:17
I'm...
06:18
I'm...
06:19
I'm...
06:20
I'm...
06:21
Sorry!
06:22
Cold and wet.
06:23
And the clouds are very thick.
06:25
Both Rupert's and the man in the moon's teeth start to chatter, too.
06:30
Oh!
06:31
Look!
06:32
There's...
06:33
Mr...
06:34
And...
06:35
Mrs...
06:36
Weather!
06:37
cries Rupert at last.
06:38
Let's ask them to help find the moon.
06:42
And he lands outside their house.
06:45
He realizes at once why the weather has changed for the worse.
06:49
For they're both running in and out, arguing with an old lady in a basket with a broom.
06:55
I assure you there are no cobwebs in my house, cries Mrs. Weather running indoors and slamming the door.
07:02
But, my dear, it's your turn to be outside, wails Mr. Weather.
07:07
I'm here to clear the cobwebs from the sky and clear them I will, shouts the old lady, banging her broom on the door.
07:15
Oh, look!
07:16
Rupert whispers to Raggedy, pointing at the old lady.
07:20
I know a rhyme about her.
07:22
There was an old woman tossed up in a basket, seventeen times as high as the moon.
07:28
Where she was going I couldn't but ask it, for in her hand she carried a broom.
07:33
Yum, yum!
07:35
Raggedy eyes the broom hungrily.
07:38
Old woman, old woman, old woman, quoth I.
07:41
Where are you going to up so high?
07:44
The old lady turns and stares at Rupert.
07:47
To brush the cobwebs off the sky, she cries crossly.
07:51
And he looks as though he could do with a good dust, she cries, brushing Raggedy with her broom.
07:56
He's supposed to look like that.
07:58
Now there are cobwebs all over my planet, says the man in the moon.
08:03
In fact, the whole place could do with a good dust. Those rockets make so much mess, he grumbles.
08:10
The old lady is delighted. I'll be there in a jiffy in my basket.
08:14
May I go with you, asks the man in the moon.
08:17
Yes, hop in.
08:19
Goodbye, Rupert. Thanks for the lift, and if you ever come to the moon, I shall be glad to show you around.
08:26
Thanks, shouts Rupert, waving goodbye.
08:29
Yuckety-yuck, cries the old lady.
08:32
No time for that when there's work to be done.
08:35
And the basket streaks away.
08:38
Oh, thank you, Rupert, sighs Mr. Weather.
08:41
I'll go and tell Mrs. Weather she can come out now.
08:44
And he hurries indoors to the warm fire.
08:48
Mrs. Weather comes out.
08:50
The cheek, she explodes, suggesting that there are cobwebs in my house.
08:56
I'm sure there aren't.
08:58
It was such a lovely night just now, too, he sighs sadly.
09:02
And it will be again, I promise, says Mrs. Weather cheerfully.
09:07
And she's right.
09:09
For by the time Rupert lands outside Raggety's house, the moon is shining and the clouds have gone.
09:15
Mr. Grimnasty is standing outside.
09:17
You know, Rupert, he says, surprised.
09:20
I'm sure I just saw an old lady with a broom and the man in the moon in a basket land there just now.
09:26
Wizardy-whiz, that was quick, chuckles Rupert.
09:30
Goodbye Raggety.
09:32
Goodnight, Mr. Grimnasty.
09:33
And Rupert rockets for home.
09:36
Leaving the astonished Mr. Grimnasty still staring up at the moon.
09:45
Rupert, cries Mrs. Bear as he comes in.
09:48
Where have you been?
09:50
You've been so long we thought you'd gone to the moon, adds Mr. Bear.
09:55
Well, I haven't been quite that far.
09:58
But I did meet the man in the moon, chuckles Rupert, and he tells them all about it.
10:05
Later that night, Mrs. Bear brings Rupert a mug of hot milk in bed.
10:10
Look, Mummy, the moon looks much brighter than usual.
10:14
Well, there's nothing like a good dusting, says Mrs. Bear.
10:19
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
10:26
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
10:31
In all of his games.
10:33
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
