00:00Today, Rupert sets out to make his mother's wish come true, in Rupert and a White Christmas.

00:17There's a little bear that you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.

00:23Children everywhere, gotta love him more and more, he's the number one.

00:30There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done.

00:37And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.

00:44Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.

00:51Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.

01:05Mrs. Bear is busy putting the finishing touches to the snow scene on the Christmas cake.

01:10Oh, it's beautiful, says Rupert admiringly.

01:16Yes, and wouldn't it be nice if we could have a White Christmas too?

01:20I wish it would snow, sighs Mrs. Bear, picking up the cake and carrying it away.

01:28Suddenly, Rupert has an idea.

01:32Wizardy whiz, I'll ask Willie.

01:35Somebody mention my name, asks Willie, dropping in unexpectedly as usual.

01:44Goodness, you were quick, Willie.

01:47Mummy wants a White Christmas.

01:48Yes, so do a lot of other people, Willie explains.

01:54And the Snow Queen is in despair.

01:58You see, she can't make it snow if there isn't any snow in the first place.

02:02Yes, but, but where does snow come from then?

02:07Get your chariot and I'll show you, chuckles Willie.

02:14Now, where's he going all of a sudden?

02:17Dear me, he's always taking off somewhere.

02:21Rupert has, and he and Willie streak through the sky, up and up and beyond,

02:29until they come to a large, fat cloud,

02:32where an old man sits staring glumly into space.

02:37Hello, Grandfather Snow, says Willie.

02:40I've brought Rupert Bear to see you.

02:43And he lands neatly beside the old man.

02:46Good afternoon, says Rupert politely.

02:49I suppose you want a White Christmas.

02:54Rupert nods eagerly.

02:56Well, I'm afraid I can't help you, little bear, sighs the old man.

03:02You see, my tears make the snow.

03:06But I've been thinking of so many sad things for so long,

03:10I can't feel sorry anymore.

03:13I know.

03:15Why don't you try laughing instead?

03:17Why, what an excellent suggestion, cries the old man, cheering up immediately.

03:25I'll go and fetch my friends, and we'll make you laugh, Rupert promises.

03:30Rightio, off we go, says Willie, as he hurtles the chariot through the sky.

03:35Oh, look, there's Edward, Rupert shouts excitedly as they zoom over the common.

03:42And Bill, and Poggy.

03:45The chariot swiftly descends.

03:49Come quick, Rupert calls urgently, waving at his friends.

03:53What's the matter?

03:55They demand, and Rupert quickly explains.

03:58So you see, if we can make Grandfather Snow laugh, till the tears run down his face, adds Willie,

04:05We'll have a white Christmas, cries Rupert.

04:09His friends are more than willing to help.

04:13Rupert is wearing a straw boater and a large red nose.

04:18Poggy is wearing a mop as a wig of hair.

04:22Bill has two simply enormous shoes on the wrong feet.

04:26And Edward has a top hat, several sizes too large.

04:32Old Grandfather Snow begins to chuckle.

04:35Ho, ho, ho, I feel better already.

04:39I shall now recite Hamlet's speech, says Rupert, bowing low.

04:46Edward comes on, carrying a plank.

04:48Whoops!

04:49Hey, mind my hat!

04:52I say, where are you going with that plank?

04:56To a board meeting, declares Edward.

05:04Chuckles the old man.

05:08Bill comes on with a shovel.

05:11Hey, where are you going with that shovel?

05:14I was asked to dig up an old friend.

05:18Grandfather Snow is enjoying himself.

05:24He roars.

05:25Rupert tries again.

05:30A little recitation by Poggy.

05:33And the little pig steps in front of Rupert.

05:36I eat peas with plenty of honey, which makes them taste rather funny.

05:41But I've been doing it all my life.

05:43It's the only way they'll stick to my knife.

05:46And Poggy waves a knife, covered in honey and peas.

05:50The old man laughs louder.

05:54Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.

06:02Sorry, folks, says Willie, suddenly popping out of Edward's top hat.

06:07But it's time for bed.

06:09We've brought you some joke books, says Rupert.

06:15I don't know.

06:19Asks Grandfather Snow.

06:21You're too young to smoke.

06:39What goes ninety-nine plonk, he reads?

06:44A centipede with a wooden leg.

06:47Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.

06:49and they can still hear him laughing ten clouds away.

07:03When Rupert wakes up the following morning,

07:05it's already light and his stocking is bulging full of exciting shapes.

07:11He leaps excitedly out of bed.

07:14What a strange light, exclaims the little bear going towards the window.

07:20Oh, it's snowing.

07:23And it's been snowing all night long.

07:26Rupert is delighted.

07:28Oh, thank you, Grandfather Snow. Mummy will be pleased.

07:33Why do birds fly south for the winter?

07:36Because it's too far to walk.

07:39Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho, ho.

07:46Much later that morning, as Rupert is eating his breakfast surrounded by his presence,

07:51there's a thump at the door.

07:53That's a funny kind of knock, he exclaims, puzzled.

07:57He looks out.

07:59But there's no one there at all.

08:01Suddenly, he spies a large snowball in the middle of the lawn.

08:07I wonder who threw that.

08:10He goes closer.

08:12Why, it's got my name on it.

08:15And sure enough, Rupert is written on it in large letters.

08:21He stoops to pick it up, when suddenly the snow falls away to reveal a large parcel.

08:29Daddy, Mummy, come and see what I've found, he cries excitedly.

08:34Goodness gracious me, exclaims Mrs Bear.

08:38Oh, it must be from Grandfather Snow, cries Rupert excitedly.

08:43It is.

08:44And Rupert is delighted, for it's a whole box of practical jokes.

08:50Why don't you send one of your Christmas party invitations to Grandfather Snow, suggests Mrs Bear.

08:57Oh, yes.

08:58Oh, but how?

09:00The same way, by snowball, chuckles Mr Bear.

09:06So Rupert wraps an invitation into a snowball.

09:09Snowball, snowball, little snowball, you shall travel far.

09:15Up into the sky so you must go, like a meteor to Grandfather Snow, cries Rupert, hurling it into the air.

09:24Up and up and up it flies, until it's lost to sight.

09:29Everybody has been invited to Rupert's Christmas party.

09:33Suddenly, there's a thump outside.

09:36Rupert goes to the door.

09:39There is a simply enormous snowball outside.

09:43It bursts open, and there is Grandfather Snow.

09:48Grandfather Snow is a great success.

09:51The life and soul of the party.

09:53Waiter, waiter, shouts Podgy.

09:56What's that fly doing in my tea?

09:59The breaststroke, I think, sir, giggles Rupert.

10:03Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

10:06Please, Rupert, gasps the old man.

10:09Don't make me laugh anymore, or I might cover your house with snow.
