It looks like the storms will weaken by the time they reach the metro.

00:00Well, we have a hot, hazy, windy Monday on the way.
00:02Temperatures near 90, still smoky skies, gusty winds,
00:05but a cool front is moving through that's going to spawn
00:07thunderstorms, potentially severe ones in western Minnesota
00:10this afternoon into this evening, followed by cooler air.
00:26So we still have air quality issues, primarily
00:29northwestern Minnesota Monday morning, where it is unhealthy
00:32for everybody, but some of that air quality could be moving east,
00:36so still air quality alerts in effect through 6 p.m. Monday
00:40for most of the state, it's just going to be kind of on and off.
00:42A lot of fires burning, all those brown areas are acres burned,
00:45large fires in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and it has been affecting
00:49the air quality and certainly the hazy skies throughout the state.
00:53But we've got a low-pressure center, cool front to the west,
00:55that's going to be the focus for some thunderstorms developing later today
00:59and gusty south winds out ahead of it today, pushing those temperatures up
01:04to close to 90.
01:05We'll see if we can actually get there.
01:07Temperatures have been underperforming the last few days,
01:10thanks to the wildfire smoke.
01:11It acts like a bit of a cloud layer, keeping things from warming up as much.
01:16Severe risk today for those storms that do develop,
01:19primarily western, southwestern Minnesota, the yellow area there,
01:23that slight risk, that's level 2 out of 5, and then a marginal risk
01:26kind of surrounding that, but really it does look to be focused
01:28in west-central Minnesota, the severe risk.
01:31We're going to see some higher dew points out ahead of it too.
01:33You'll notice the air getting stickier as we head into the afternoon,
01:36especially this evening into the 60s, but those of course will drop quickly
01:39as that cooler, drier air moves in tomorrow.
01:42And this is why we're expecting the storms to stay severe just to the west.
01:45We've got a very narrow area of instability that will fizzle out pretty quickly.
01:48So we're looking at mostly leftover storms in eastern Minnesota.
01:52This is the supercell index forecast for late this afternoon,
01:56highest in western Minnesota, and then that gradient really drops off
02:00as you move east.
02:01And looking at two different models for the updraft tracks, essentially,
02:05yeah, all point to western Minnesota primarily,
02:07but maybe some lingering severe storms in northeastern Minnesota.
02:11So that's why there's that broad marginal risk, level 1 out of 5,
02:13kind of covering northern and western Minnesota.
02:15So storms will fire already around 2 p.m. west central Minnesota
02:18through central Minnesota by 6 p.m.
02:20Twin cities, we can expect storms by maybe 7 to 8, 9 p.m.
02:24And then kind of on and off, scattered showers,
02:26a few thunderstorms behind that front into tomorrow morning,
02:29maybe even into the early afternoon.
02:31Western Minnesota will dry out quicker, but as far as rainfall goes,
02:34half inch to an inch of rain possible for a good swath of northeastern,
02:38central, southern Minnesota.
02:40But these will be thunderstorm-type precip patterns where you can have a lot
02:45in one spot and a lot less in another.
02:47So it's kind of luck of the draw.
02:49Rain-cool temperatures tomorrow.
02:51They're just upper 60s.
02:5270s to the west where the sun will break out by the afternoon.
02:55Wednesday, the sun is out for all of us.
02:56Looks like a very nice day.
02:58Mostly 70s for highs.
02:59And we're going to stay pretty much in the 70s through the rest of the week
03:01into the weekend with some occasional instability.
03:06A few showers, spotty showers possible late Friday.
03:08These will be very convective, so sunshine in the morning,
03:10clouds kind of fill in, and then spotty or isolated showers
03:13popping up each afternoon, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
03:18So just kind of a cooler, somewhat unstable pattern,
03:22but also with sunshine, so not too bad here.
03:25I think the best chances of seeing those spotty showers
03:27will be Friday and Sunday afternoons,
03:29but Wednesday, Thursday look pretty pleasant.
03:32And mostly upper 70s.
03:33Very comfortable temperatures Wednesday into the weekend.
03:36And we'll see on the wildfire smoke.
03:39I think we're going to be dealing with it on and off
03:40for at least the first half of the summer.
03:43But at least we get a temporary reprieve.
03:45The rain and the wind shifts tomorrow
03:47should at least give us a little bit of a break
03:49from some of that smoky air.
03:51There you go.
03:52You go.
03:53I think we're going to be a little bit of a break
03:55from here.
03:56We're going to be a little bit tomorrow.
03:56You can't hit the road here town.
03:57You can't hit the road here.
03:57It is name today.
03:58We'll see you later.
03:59Thanks for listening.
04:00Bye.
04:01лес.
04:01The rain and the wind going in here.
