Welcome to this 14-day outlook, which takes us within a week of Christmas.
00:05
The start of this forecast period very active as Storm Darragh is barrelling across the
00:11
UK.
00:12
I'm not going to go into the details of that here.
00:13
This is the 14-day outlook.
00:14
But if you are concerned, you can always check out the Met Office warnings through our app
00:18
and our website.
00:19
We're interested in what happens after Storm Darragh, and that is high pressure.
00:24
The jet stream moves up to the north, allowing this area of high pressure to build in across
00:29
the country and dominate proceedings for most of next week, certainly much of the working
00:35
week.
00:36
This is the most likely set up for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week, middle part
00:40
of December.
00:41
A very high chance that high pressure will be sitting close to the UK.
00:46
Where high pressure is involved, the air is generally sinking, so that's going to bring
00:49
a lot of dry weather and certainly compared to the weekend, much, much lighter winds.
00:54
Now, the position of the high will be key, but sitting under it, we are likely to have
00:58
those light winds, which means at this time of year, the nights get cold and frosty and
01:03
also the potential for fog, which may well last for much of the day.
01:08
So dry, murky conditions with light winds, that'll be the dominant weather feature across
01:13
much of the UK, likely to still be quite breezy, particularly on Wednesday across parts of
01:18
the south.
01:19
That will stop too much fog from forming, but will also bring a colder feel to proceedings,
01:25
especially along the south coast.
01:27
After that, we may well start to see a change as we head towards the following weekend,
01:32
Friday the 13th to Sunday the 15th of December.
01:36
High pressure is still around about the UK, but sinking down towards the southwest.
01:41
Low pressure systems will topple in around the top, generating a northwesterly airflow
01:45
and that's going to bring showers, particularly to northern and western parts of the UK.
01:50
So after a dry few days across the north, we are looking at things turning much more
01:55
showery towards the back end of the week and quite breezy as well, depending on where
02:00
the low pressure systems are, and it could bring some strong gusts, but likely to be
02:05
more changeable.
02:06
So there will be some sunny spells as there will be further south, chance of some showers
02:10
coming down on a northwesterly, but closer to the high pressure for the south and west,
02:15
a decent chance of actually largely staying dry.
02:19
Beyond that, the signal for the week commencing the 16th of December is that high pressure
02:26
will tend to edge away and overall over the whole week, it's likely that lower pressure,
02:31
the pale blues will be the dominant feature, sitting somewhere generally to the east of
02:37
the UK.
02:38
So we're likely to keep that northwesterly airflow by and large.
02:41
So we're likely to keep things pretty showery through that week.
02:45
Strong winds always possible depending on the intensity of the low pressure systems
02:49
and their track and temperatures probably starting off a bit below average, but generally
02:54
through the week close to the average mark.
02:57
So yes, things changing a bit over the next few days.
03:01
As I mentioned, do keep up to date with the latest weather warnings on the Met Office
03:05
app and on the website and for the day to day details as we go through next week.
