Welcome to your afternoon weather update from the Met Office. There is more rain
00:04
to come for most of us over the next couple of days. Low-pressure systems
00:07
continue to dominate. This is the view from space right across the Atlantic. You
00:12
can see these little swirls. They're all little areas of low pressure and these
00:16
weather fronts currently moving in are both bringing areas of wet weather. This
00:21
one especially just lingering across parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland
00:24
through this morning and further rain to come particularly in central and
00:28
southern Scotland throughout this afternoon. Also a band of showery rain
00:31
working into Wales and southwest England. Not too much rain though for the
00:35
Midlands and eastern England. Certainly for much of East Anglia and the
00:38
southeast staying dry and much of the far north of Scotland also staying dry
00:43
through this afternoon. Still quite breezy in the south. The winds are lighter
00:46
than yesterday across the north but it's a pretty chilly day across much of
00:51
Scotland particularly when that rain is persisting. Temperatures in single
00:54
figures whereas further south mild air has moved in and temperatures again
00:58
getting into the mid-teens. 16 maybe even 17 Celsius over parts of eastern
01:03
England with a bit of brightness. We'll see more showers working across those
01:06
eastern areas through this evening. That rain continues over central and southern
01:11
Scotland in fact for most of the night and then we look at another batch of
01:15
heavy showers coming into Wales and southwest England through the early
01:18
hours. That could contain a few rumbles of thunder. Staying fairly windy as well.
01:23
The winds coming down from the north across the far north so the cold air in
01:28
place here which means the wet weather will fall as snow over the tops of the
01:31
mountains but further south the winds are coming up from the southwest
01:34
bringing that mild air. So again a very mild start to Friday. Again though most
01:40
of us will see some showery rain during Friday. Could be a bright start over the
01:44
East Midlands, parts of Lincolnshire but heavy rain along parts of the M4 and the
01:48
M25 first thing. So a lot of spray and surface water on the roads. That rain
01:53
continues over central and southern Scotland into Friday as well. So again a
01:57
lot of spray and surface water on the roads. Not great travelling conditions.
02:01
And then as we go through the day we'll see some brighter spells developing but
02:05
more showers coming in. Northern Ireland looking like a largely fine ends to
02:09
Friday. Notice the winds still coming down from the north across the north
02:12
coming in from the west along the south coast. That mild air still in place here
02:17
and again in eastern England with a bit of brightness 15 or 16 degrees whereas
02:21
in northern Scotland only 6 or 7 Celsius and feeling colder through the
02:26
central belt where that rain is likely to persist. It will be clearing finally
02:30
as we go through Friday evening from central and southern Scotland. Still a
02:34
few heavy showers possible over eastern parts of England during Friday afternoon
02:38
and evening but turning a little drier for a time. But behind me there's the
02:42
potential for further rain to come in as we go into the weekend. For more on that
02:46
you can catch our weekend forecast on YouTube that'll be available by Thursday
02:51
afternoon.
