Thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03
Something of a north-south split this Monday afternoon with fairly drab
00:08
conditions across the south, something a bit brighter further north. But it's kind
00:11
of an east-west orientation with the bigger picture with high pressure
00:15
sitting to the east and it will be here for much of the week. A big low pressure
00:19
and weather fronts trying to push in from the west and it's going to be a bit
00:22
of a scrap as to who wins out. But to start the working week we've had this
00:27
little area of low pressure bringing some pretty soggy conditions across the
00:31
southeast. That rain is slowly petering out, clearing away and leaving just a lot
00:36
of cloud across Wales, the Midlands, southern England and East Anglia. A bit of
00:40
drizzle here and there. There's a weather front also bringing some showery rain
00:43
across northern Scotland that is also tending to clear away and much of
00:47
Scotland, Northern Ireland and a good chunk of northern England having a fine
00:51
Monday, dry and bright with sunny spells and light winds. A bit on the chilly side
00:55
here first thing but temperatures stumbling up to 11 or 12 Celsius. The
01:00
south, reasonably mild air so temperatures here 15-16 degrees but
01:04
obviously not feeling all that mild. We've got this thick cloud and the drizzle
01:08
which will continue just to push a little further north as we go through
01:11
the night. So turning misty and murky over the hills, over the Pennines and
01:15
the mountains of North Wales and eventually into southern Scotland and
01:18
Northern Ireland. Some light rain and drizzle as possible. Far north always
01:22
staying dry and clear and here again there will be some pockets of frost in
01:26
the countryside but elsewhere the milder air is wafting northwards so
01:30
temperatures in the south staying in double digits and that milder air will
01:34
continue to push north during Tuesday. But so will the cloud, a fairly drab day
01:39
tomorrow for most. Northern Scotland being the exception with these southerly
01:43
winds. Some shelter here, we'll see some sunny spells throughout the day but
01:47
elsewhere well sunshine in short supply may brighten up a touch, particularly
01:52
across North Wales, maybe parts of North West England but even further south we
01:56
could see some brightest bars developing. But overall a dry and cloudy day until
02:00
we see some showers coming into the south coast later and also possibly
02:04
into Northern Ireland for the afternoon. But as I say most places just dry and
02:08
cloudy but it will be mild. Those temperatures above average for the time
02:12
of year getting into the mid teens maybe the high teens if we do see some of that
02:16
sunshine coming through and the milder air continues to stick around through
02:20
Tuesday night and into Wednesday. But with the milder air wafting up from the
02:24
south a bit more in the way of moisture joining in that means some showers are
02:28
likely. Potential for some heavy ones through Tuesday night and as we head
02:32
into Wednesday. So that bigger scrap going on with the high pressure sitting
02:36
to the east and the low pressure on the weather fronts from the west continues
02:39
through Wednesday and Thursday. It looks like the weather fronts will win out and
02:43
bring some heavier rain for a time on Wednesday but still pretty warm and then
02:48
more weather fronts bringing fresher conditions as we head towards the
02:52
weekend. Potentially some strong winds too. Plenty to talk about with this
02:56
week's weather. The full week ahead forecast that'll be available on YouTube
03:01
by Monday afternoon.
