Transcript
00:00Thanks for joining me for your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Plenty more sunshine to come over the next several days.
00:07But as always, the devil with our weather is in the detail.
00:10The bigger picture, though, does show where the rain is.
00:13It's out here, out in the Atlantic, a big chunky area of low pressure.
00:16And that is staying out here, really, for the foreseeable future,
00:20allowing this high to dominate our weather.
00:23We've seen this little low generate some heavy, even thundery showers over recent days.
00:27And still closest to that across southwest England.
00:31There will be one or two more breaking out this afternoon through Devon, Cornwall.
00:35And the eyes are silly, perhaps, but very hit and miss.
00:37Most places staying dry.
00:39With that high pressure sitting to the north, the winds around it are drifting down from the north.
00:43And that's bringing a chilly feel to the North Sea coast.
00:47And at times, a bit of cloud over eastern England, too, breaking up through the rest of today.
00:52But some of those eastern coasts may stay a little murky.
00:55And certainly, it will stay fresh.
00:57The sea surface temperature, about 10 degrees Celsius.
01:01So, we're going to struggle to get much above that right on the coast.
01:05These cities in eastern England should climb into the teens.
01:08But the warmest weather further west, and particularly today, across the south,
01:11where we'll see those temperatures getting up to 23, 24 degrees.
01:15So, feeling pretty warm here, whereas it is fairly chilly in the east.
01:19Of course, the temperature's irrelevant when it comes to UV levels.
01:22If it's sunny out there this time of year, you can be pretty sure you're going to get damage to the skin unless you are protected.
01:29So, slap the sunscreen on.
01:30Those levels are high for most of us.
01:33Now, the breeze will continue to feed the cloud back in across these eastern parts of England through the night.
01:38Any of those heavy showers this evening should fade away from the far southwest.
01:42Generally, clear skies across western areas overnight.
01:45But, as I say, that cloud bringing the mist and the murk back further inland as we go through the night.
01:50Temperatures dipping down into single figures for many.
01:53Getting quite fresh, actually, in western Scotland.
01:55Down to 2 or 3 degrees in some sheltered spots here.
01:59A different start then to Thursday across the Midlands since much of eastern England started the day drab.
02:05It may take a while for that mist and low cloud to clear away.
02:08And, again, parts of the east coast may hang on to the harm fret throughout the afternoon.
02:14But, generally, for most inland areas, it will again turn sunny.
02:18We're losing the risk of showers in the southwest tomorrow as well.
02:21So, for the vast majority, it is a day of sparkling spring sunshine.
02:26Right. Temperatures, though, perhaps not quite as high across the south.
02:29I think western Scotland may see the highest temperatures on Thursday.
02:3222, maybe, or 23 degrees Celsius.
02:35Most places around or a touch above average.
02:38But, again, that east coast, particularly if it does stay murky, temperatures could struggle.
02:43So, feeling quite cool, particularly with that breeze coming in from the sea.
02:47So, that's going to make quite a big difference.
02:48Again, quite a contrast between east and west.
02:51And, again, where we see that breeze could just generate a bit more cloud coming into these eastern areas as we go through Thursday evening.
02:58That will continue to be a trend in the weather even into the weekend because our pressure pattern is not really shifting.
03:04That low pressure staying way out to the west.
03:07High pressure continuing to dominate and mill around just to the north of the UK, allowing those winds to continue to feed down.
03:14And, at times, bring cloudier and, certainly for most of the time, bring cooler conditions to the east coast.
03:20But, that high will continue to bring much of the country more of that spring sunshine.
