Hello, happy Friday. Welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04
It's been a cloudy old week for much of the UK, not everywhere. Parts of northern
00:09
Scotland have seen quite a bit of sunshine and again today on the
00:12
satellite pitch you can see that nice hole in the cloud, again generating quite
00:16
a bit of blue sky here. It's also allowed for some fog first thing. Elsewhere we've
00:20
kept the cloud. A few holes across northwest England, northern parts of
00:24
Wales and the cloud is thick enough in the southwest of England to produce some
00:28
drizzly conditions. So quite a damp day across parts of Devon, Cornwall and
00:33
Somerset too. A bit of drizzle is possible in the east of Northern Ireland but most
00:36
places again just dry and cloudy. That breeze is fairly light but dragging the
00:42
air up over the hills which generates the breaks in the cloud across northwest
00:46
England, particularly Cumbria and again across northern Scotland where
00:49
temperatures are likely to get up to 13-14 degrees, maybe 15, not quite as warm
00:54
as earlier in the week. In fact January temperatures have been dripping
00:57
off over past few days so only nine or ten across parts of eastern England will
01:01
feel quite cool and not feeling very pleasant with the drizzle and the
01:04
fairly brisk breeze around the coast of Devon and Cornwall. That damp weather
01:09
will continue through the evening and overnight. The holes in the cloud will
01:13
continue across northern Scotland which will again here allow temperatures to
01:17
fall down close to freezing. One change through the night the cloud is going to
01:20
thicken over these eastern counties producing some drizzly conditions over
01:24
parts of Yorkshire all the way up to Aberdeenshire. Temperature wise well that
01:30
blanket of cloud will generally keep the temperatures up but colder air is
01:33
moving in so it will be a chillier start to Saturday. Still most places a long way
01:38
from freezing six or seven Celsius, nine or ten further west but in northern
01:42
Scotland yes where we've got those clearer skies sheltered glens will again
01:46
likely dip down to freezing. But again here we'll have some sunshine, any
01:50
morning fog should clear away across northern Scotland but it's these eastern
01:54
counties of Scotland and to the northeast of England where it'll be a
01:57
very different day. It'll be dank and drizzly, not very pleasant at all
02:02
actually. Drizzly showers likely all the way down to Lincolnshire maybe even
02:05
north Norfolk. Parts of southern England again seeing a bit of drizzle maybe a
02:08
little bit more in the way of damp weather just moving into Northern
02:11
Ireland for Saturday all set. But elsewhere again many places just dry and
02:15
cloudy. Again with some sunny skies, light winds, top temperatures in the
02:20
northwest 11, 12 maybe 13 Celsius. But again temperatures for most places a
02:24
degree or so down tomorrow compared to today. So with eight or nine Celsius on
02:29
some of these North Sea coasts with that drizzly rain that will feel pretty cool
02:33
even for the middle of November. Now as you go through Saturday evening not a
02:37
great deal of change but notice these bands of fairly weak looking rain just
02:41
creeping in a little bit. So it will turn a bit wetter I suspect across
02:44
Northern Ireland. Those weather fronts are making steady progress and slowly
02:49
but surely eroding the area of high pressure that's been with us. This low is
02:53
heading up towards Iceland but it's weather front has a bit more about it. A
02:57
bit more welly, a bit more oomph as it brings some more cloud and rain into the
03:01
northwest. But as it moves through it will finally introduce some clearer
03:06
conditions. Not really with us on Sunday for most it's another drab day but as
03:10
the breeze picks up I think maybe a few more holes in the cloud are possible for
03:14
parts of the Midlands, South East England. A bit of brightness here. There will be a
03:17
little bit more in the way of rain as that weather front moves in across
03:20
Scotland, Northern Ireland. Also some showery rain ahead of it for parts of
03:23
Northern England and North Wales. Again many places will just be dry and cloudy
03:28
but brighter skies coming into the far northwest. The winds picking up here as
03:32
well particularly late in the day. Temperatures higher on Sunday though so
03:35
it will feel a bit warmer particularly if you do get any sunny spells over Central
03:39
and Eastern England. More likely to see those temperatures back into the teens.
03:43
Most of us are likely to see some sunshine though on Monday. If you can't
03:48
wait till then for your sunshine then check out the weather studio live. We are
03:51
back so you can watch that. That'll definitely brighten your day.
