Hello. Welcome to your national weather updates. We're going to see the weather chopping and
00:04
changing over the next couple of days for sure. Again, further heavy showers likely
00:08
on Saturday and Friday's picture is a bit of a mess. This is the view from space. You
00:13
can see a lot of cloud on the satellite image and zones of rain. But in between, some brighter
00:18
spells much of Yorkshire down to the Midlands, dry and bright for a time this afternoon.
00:23
Sunny spells developing across Scotland and Northern Ireland. But there will be some scattered
00:27
showers here and brightening up this afternoon across parts of southwest England. Elsewhere,
00:31
quite a lot of clouds, outbreaks of rain at times. Still pretty mild though across the
00:36
south with a bit of sunshine. We could get up to 16 or 17 degrees Celsius. A cooler feel
00:42
though compared to recent days across Scotland and Northern Ireland. As we go through this
00:46
evening, most of that rain will either sink southwards or clear away out into the North
00:50
Sea. So many places becoming dry. I think we'll keep some outbreaks of rain going for
00:55
south Wales and that may drift back northwards across the Midlands. And then look at this
00:58
more rain coming in through Northern Ireland during the early hours and by dawn into parts
01:03
of Scotland and northwest England. Temperatures will drop away. It is going to be a bit of
01:08
a chilly night in the south. I think we'll hold up in double digits, generally speaking.
01:13
But certainly before this rain arrives, if we just rewind the clock with some clearer
01:17
skies across northeastern parts of Scotland, just a hint of blue on the chart there. So
01:21
suggesting there will be some pockets of frost across parts of eastern Scotland, as
01:25
I say, before the cloud and the rain arrives. This rain likely to be fairly heavy, but also
01:31
likely to be moving fairly rapidly. So Saturday morning, if you just pause it at nine o'clock,
01:37
some heavy outbreaks of rain across parts of northern England and a good part of northern
01:41
and eastern Scotland too. But elsewhere, something a little bit drier. There'll be some sunny
01:46
spells. But then as we go through the day, we'll continue to see a mixture of sunshine
01:50
with further bands of showers coming in for northern Ireland, western Scotland and across
01:55
England and Wales. Probably not too many getting to the far southeast. And after the early
01:59
rain, northeast England and northeast Scotland, mostly dry and bright through the afternoon.
02:04
So as I said, chopping and changing a lot going on with the weather. Gusty winds to
02:09
boot, particularly lively winds around these Irish sea coasts. That's going to make it
02:13
feel quite chilly here. Temperatures, again, generally a touch below average across the
02:18
north, but around or a little bit above average for the south, particularly if we get some
02:22
sunny spells between the showers. Plenty more showers to come, though, as we go through
02:26
Saturday evening across parts of eastern England, but also across Scotland and northern Ireland.
02:32
The showers just continually blown in by these gusty southwesterly winds. Same goes for West
02:37
Wales. The showers on and off on Saturday evening. Bear that in mind if you're heading
02:41
out. It's that low pressure responsible for that. Then look down to the southwest. Another
02:46
area of low pressure develops during Saturday night and through Sunday. And that will eventually
02:51
bring some wet and windy conditions into western areas. But most of that, I suspect, will be
02:56
through Sunday evening and overnight for a good part of the country. Sunday will be dry
03:01
and bright, a little bit chilly early on. There'll be some showers across Scotland,
03:05
but they will be fading. And then, as I said, that area of low pressure will bring more
03:09
wet and windy weather, particularly overnight into parts of the north and the west. Keep
03:14
up to date with the latest throughout this weekend by following the Met Office across
03:18
social media.
