00:00
Welcome to your national weather updates.
00:02
There'll be far fewer leaves on the trees
00:05
by the end of this week.
00:06
Going to get pretty windy, especially
00:08
around the middle of the week.
00:09
Today, though, for most places, the winds are fairly light.
00:12
There's a bit of a northwest-southeast split.
00:15
A lot of cloud in the satellite image
00:16
streaming in from the Atlantic, bringing outbreaks of rain
00:19
this morning to Northern Ireland, pushing now
00:21
across a good part of Scotland.
00:23
Getting a bit drier in Northern Ireland,
00:24
staying fairly glum this afternoon.
00:26
Fringland and Wales bar the odd bit of drizzly rain
00:28
here and there, mostly in the southwest.
00:31
Most places dry and reasonably bright.
00:33
Yes, quite a lot of cloud.
00:35
But some places seeing a little bit of early October
00:38
sunshine, which will lift the temperatures up
00:41
into the high teens.
00:43
So above average for the time of year 18,
00:45
19 with light winds feeling pretty pleasant.
00:47
But the winds are getting stronger
00:48
as that weather system we saw in the satellite image
00:51
brings further outbreaks of rain to parts of Western Scotland.
00:54
The rain's starting to build up here as well.
00:56
It may ease for a little bit through this evening.
00:58
But further pulses of rain coming into Western Scotland
01:01
overnight could cause a few issues,
01:03
certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads.
01:06
We have issued a yellow warning for that rainfall.
01:09
The rain returns to Northern Ireland overnight as well,
01:11
so a soggy start to Tuesday.
01:13
Bit of drizzle here and there for England and Wales,
01:15
but most of England and Wales will have a dry night.
01:18
And pretty much everywhere, it will be a fairly mild night
01:20
with that brisk breeze keeping the temperatures up
01:22
12 or 13 below.
01:25
On to the details for Tuesday.
01:27
It's a bit of a messy one.
01:28
We start with a heavy rain still in Western Scotland,
01:31
but it should clear fairly quickly.
01:32
Quite a wet rush out through the central belt.
01:35
But even here, that rain is edging through and easing
01:38
from Northern Ireland also.
01:39
But it's going to be quite a damp day for Northwest England
01:42
and a good part of Central and West Wales.
01:44
Eventually, that rain creeping its way
01:46
into the north coast of Devon and Cornwall
01:48
and across the Midlands too.
01:50
But brining up across Northern Scotland
01:52
with some sunny spells, but staying blustery
01:54
with a few showers across the Western Isles.
01:57
Staying largely dry and bright across East Anglia
01:59
and the southeast.
02:00
And temperatures here could get up to 20 degrees
02:02
Celsius in one or two spots before the cloud starts
02:05
to spill in.
02:06
Again, generally temperatures above average,
02:08
but not feeling all that pleasant
02:10
through the central areas with that rain coming
02:12
in by the afternoon and the winds getting lively.
02:15
And this kind of central swathe staying fairly damp
02:19
as we head through Tuesday night and into Wednesday.
02:21
So pretty wet for the Midlands.
02:23
Western parts of England and much of Wales.
02:25
And that is tied into this developing weather system.
02:29
Pushes the rain back into Northern Ireland also.
02:31
This is an area of low pressure that we need to watch.
02:34
Moving in on Tuesday night and more particularly Wednesday.
02:37
Set to move across parts of Northern Britain.
02:40
The ice above squeezing together.
02:41
It's going to get windy everywhere.
02:43
Be a spell of heavy rain everywhere as well.
02:46
But we do need to watch this because it's developing
02:48
as it approaches the UK.
02:50
Could cause a few problems.
02:51
Most likely scenario is that it brings winds of 55
02:55
to 65 miles an hour that could cause a few issues.
02:58
But there is the potential for that load
03:00
to be a little bit more intense.
03:02
Remember, it's developing as it approaches the UK.
03:04
That could bring a spell of winds a little bit higher,
03:07
which would give more disruption.
03:10
So something to watch.
03:11
Now we've got this broad yellow wind warning in place.
03:15
But as I said, those winds could for a smaller area
03:17
be a little bit more significant.
03:19
So it's something we're keeping a close eye on.
03:21
Make sure you keep up to date with the warnings.
03:23
