Storm Barbette continues to bring heavy rain and flooding. On Friday morning we
00:05
issued a new red weather warning covering parts of eastern Scotland for
00:08
the whole of Saturday. The warnings for the rest of Friday are amber and yellow.
00:13
We've got a lot of cloud covering the country and it's all feeding in from the
00:17
east. This weather front has kind of fizzled out so the rain has eased
00:21
temporarily across eastern Scotland but it hasn't further south. Lots of heavy
00:25
rain over parts of the Midlands, Wales and particularly northeast England
00:29
continuing to cause some disruption. The winds continuing to feed in off the
00:33
North Sea bringing all that moisture. So further disruption is likely through the
00:38
rest of today. As I said for today the warnings are amber and yellow. Please do
00:42
check the details out on our website and on our app. The rain though will move
00:47
back further north as we go through the night. Temperatures today 12 to 13 maybe
00:51
16 or 17 with a bit of brightness across parts of the southeast. As I said though
00:56
the rain will spread back northwards through this evening. Still very heavy
00:59
over northeast England. A lot of spray, a lot of surface water on the roads and
01:03
then it returns to eastern Scotland bringing a significant flood risk once
01:08
more. We could see a further 70 to 100 millimetres of rain in this part of the
01:12
world and because we've seen well over 150 in some locations that is likely to
01:17
cause further flooding. Temperatures overnight holding up in double figures
01:22
across the south, single digits further north. The rain will continue on and off
01:26
across parts of Wales and northwest England though perhaps not quite as
01:29
heavy as earlier on in the day. But as I said that rain is going to continue over
01:34
eastern Scotland. That's why we have the red warning in place again. A red warning
01:37
means a risk to life but there is amber warnings also across parts of Scotland
01:42
for the heavy rain that will continue throughout Saturday. Again that easterly
01:47
wind just feeding in all the moisture. Heaviest rain over the hills but it's
01:51
all going to come down and as I said further flooding is likely. We've already seen
01:56
extensive disruption and that will continue. In the south we'll see
02:00
something a bit drier and brighter for many but we have to watch these heavy
02:03
showers coming in across parts of southeast England. Thunderstorms likely
02:07
here during Saturday afternoon along with some gusty winds. But it looks a lot
02:10
drier on Saturday over northeast England, parts of northern Ireland, Wales and
02:14
southwest England turning drier later as well. The winds for most won't be as
02:19
strong. Temperatures though still going to feel chilly for most single figures
02:23
with the persistent heavy rain across Scotland. Further south we could get
02:27
into the teens. As we go through Saturday evening well we'll start to see further
02:32
showers in the south but the rain keeps on coming across the north and east of
02:36
Scotland. Hence why we have that red warning in place and that broader amber
02:40
warning as well. It's not really until Sunday that we start to see the rain
02:45
easing further across that northeastern corner. Low pressure gradually edging
02:50
away. The isobars opening up a little bit and Sunday does offer a respite for
02:56
many areas. It does look drier, not completely dry. There'll still be some
02:59
showers in northern Scotland but they do tend to fade away. A few showers elsewhere
03:03
for parts of northwest England, Wales but a good deal of dry and bright weather
03:07
around on Sunday. So as I said something of a respite for many and the winds
03:12
generally a bit lighter too, particularly on North Sea coasts. Temperatures around or a
03:16
touch below average but probably feeling a little bit better because it won't be
03:20
as wet in many locations. As I said please do check out those Met Office
03:25
weather warnings on our app and on our website for the very latest and also all
03:31
of the details. Also make sure you're following us right across social media
03:35
as we keep you updated during this storm.
