Good morning, as Storm Dara hits many of us will have a wet and very windy day
00:06
and in some places those winds are dangerous. We have a Met Office red
00:10
warning in place along with amber warnings for the strength of the wind
00:14
many other warnings also in place too. Let's look at the winds first of all
00:18
here's the storm system actually tracking across northern England and
00:21
southern Scotland this morning but it's on its backside if you like where we're
00:26
seeing the strongest winds already very blustery across Northern Ireland and
00:30
feeding down through the Irish Sea. These darker purple suggesting gusts of wind
00:34
along the Wales coast of 80 miles an hour. We could also see very strong gusts
00:39
along the south coast of Wales and up through the Bristol Channel. The English
00:42
Channel also having some gusty conditions and as the storm heads into
00:46
the North Sea on its northern flank we'll start to see some strong winds
00:50
coming down the eastern side of Scotland and eastern England too. So a very windy
00:55
day indeed. The strongest winds in the west that's where we have the red
01:00
warning in place for this morning. A broader amber warning area covering
01:05
Northern Ireland, South West Scotland, western parts of England, Wales and that
01:08
red zone along the west coast of Wales, the south coast of Wales and up through
01:13
the Bristol Channel on the north coast of Devon and Somerset. We also have
01:17
yellow warnings covering a good chunk of the UK. Every chance that this storm
01:21
will impact your plans through the day today wherever you are. So do keep up
01:26
to date with the forecast, keep up to date with the weather warnings. Yellow
01:30
warnings also in place for those winds as they strengthen down the eastern side
01:33
a little later today. Also the heavy rain could cause some issues. We have yellow
01:39
rain warnings and an amber one across parts of South Wales where it's going to
01:42
be very soggy indeed. Of course recent flooding here so extra rainfall likely
01:47
to exacerbate the problems and it is a very wet day across much of Wales
01:51
central and eastern England seeing bands of rain moving through. A little drier in
01:55
Northern Ireland, southwestern parts of Scotland may see a largely dry afternoon.
02:00
The winds remain very strong throughout but those damaging gusts of wind should
02:05
at least ease somewhat during this afternoon but staying very blustery and
02:09
the winds coming down from the north bringing a colder feel as well.
02:13
Temperatures really struggling, single digits at best add on that wind and it
02:17
will feel colder than that. Cold enough for some snow across Scotland that is an
02:21
extra hazard still some snow coming in here over some of the higher routes the
02:25
A9 in particular strong winds and snow means for blizzards through the day
02:29
easing a little bit as we go through the night. The rain easing in quite a few
02:32
areas as well but it stays pretty wet across eastern and central England it
02:37
stays blustery also. Further west turning a little bit drier and with some
02:42
clearer skies temperatures dipping well down into single figures with some
02:46
shelter across parts of Scotland. Many towns and cities will hold up at five or
02:50
six degrees Celsius. Another cold and blustery day on Sunday but at least for
02:55
many it should be a drier day tomorrow certainly for Wales and southwest
02:59
England. Much of Scotland, Northern Ireland also dry, even some sunshine. A few
03:04
showers over northeast Scotland, plenty more showery outbreaks of rain though for
03:08
the Midlands and eastern England and still that wind coming down from the
03:12
north or the northeast bringing another chilly day. Again the winds not as strong
03:17
tomorrow but still brisk enough you will notice it temperatures it'll read seven
03:22
to nine Celsius on the thermometer but again feeling colder with the strength
03:26
of the wind but the winds particularly strong and dangerous in the coming hours
03:31
this morning. Do check out the Met Office weather warnings for yourself they're
03:35
constantly being monitored, constantly being updated. You can check them for
03:39
yourself through the Met Office app and the Met Office website. If you haven't
