Hello, welcome to our latest weather update from the Met Office. Storm Dara continues
00:05
to bring some very disruptive and potentially damaging weather through the rest of Saturday
00:09
and into Sunday. It does slowly move its way south and eastwards away from the UK as we
00:13
head through into the start of Sunday. But that squeeze in the isobars still indicates
00:17
those strong winds we're likely to see through much of Sunday. But then high pressure starts
00:21
to build from the northwest, turning everything a little more settled as we head in towards
00:25
the new working week. Back to the rest of Saturday, though, and some strong winds continuing
00:29
across western parts of the UK, gusts here perhaps reaching up to 70mph by the time we
00:34
get to the early hours of Sunday morning. And lots of heavy rain across eastern parts
00:37
of England too, so some flooding likely in places here. Turning a little drier across
00:42
parts of Northern Ireland and parts of Scotland, but still remaining windy. And with that brisk
00:45
northerly wind, that should keep temperatures above zero, although it will still be quite
00:49
a chilly night and a chilly start to the day on Sunday, particularly across the south and
00:52
the east where we see that cloud and rain continuing through Sunday morning. So a cloudy
00:58
and damp start across eastern parts of England, heavy outbreaks of rain slowly pushing their
01:02
way southwards as we go through the morning. But for all of the UK, it will be a really
01:06
windy day, gusts inland still reaching up to around 40 or 50mph quite widely through
01:11
Sunday afternoon. Winds will slowly start to ease across western parts of Scotland,
01:16
Northern Ireland as we go through the afternoon, and it should be a bit brighter here, perhaps
01:19
some sunshine through the afternoon. But temperatures still remaining around about average for the
01:22
time of year, eight or nine degrees in the south and seven or eight further north. But
01:27
with that northerly breeze, particularly across southern and eastern parts of England,
01:30
it will still be feeling quite chilly here under that cloud and rain. So cloud and rain
01:35
continuing across the very far southeast through Sunday evening. It slowly pushes its way south
01:39
and eastwards, starting to fizzle out into the early hours of Monday morning. But further
01:43
north across parts of Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland, a dry night to come, plenty
01:47
of clear spells around and with light winds here, likely to see quite a sharp frost developing,
01:51
even some mist and fog in places. So turning quite chilly here, temperatures dipping below
01:55
zero. But in the south, across much of England and Wales, generally staying just that little
01:59
bit milder, particularly across the southeast where we see that brisk northeasterly breeze
02:03
continuing into the start of Monday. So a chilly but bright start across parts of Northern
02:08
Ireland, parts of Scotland, a crisp blue morning for many places here. And across much of England
02:13
and Wales, that cloud becoming a bit more patchy as we go through the morning. So some
02:16
sunshine likely here, although still one or two showers just skirting the very far southeast
02:20
of England, and it will still be quite blustery here. Temperatures on Monday still around
02:24
about average for the time of year, perhaps a little milder across the very far south
02:27
where we see that brisk breeze continuing. But further north, a crisp winter's day with
02:32
temperatures around average and some sunshine through the afternoon. High pressure then
02:37
looks like it's dominating as we head into much of next week, situated right across the
02:41
UK, perhaps one or two weather fronts just brushing the far north of the UK. But high
02:45
pressure brings us some more settled conditions and perhaps some sunshine on the way. But
02:49
that does mean some cold nights and perhaps some frost and fog on the way through next
02:52
week. There are plenty of weather warnings to keep up to date with, so make sure you
