20 July - national forecast presented by Ellie Glaisyer
Transcript
00:00Good morning and welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office.
00:04There was a lot of showers and longer spells of rain around for many of us on Saturday
00:08and not much is changing as we head through the rest of Sunday either.
00:12Low pressure situated towards the south-west of the UK with the bands of rain and showers
00:15swirling around pushing their way northwards across much of the country through Sunday
00:20afternoon.
00:21We'll see some longer spells of rain across parts of Scotland push their way northwards
00:24but almost anywhere could see a shower through the afternoon, however we will start to see
00:28a bit of sunshine developing, a bit of brightness and when you do catch the sunshine it will
00:32still be feeling pleasantly warm.
00:33The sun's fairly strong at this time of year, 24, 25 perhaps even 26 degrees across the south
00:39and even in the north those temperatures are a little above average around 21 or 22 degrees.
00:45As we then go through the rest of Sunday we'll continue to see those showers spiralling around
00:49that area of low pressure pushing their way northwards, perhaps merging to some longer
00:53spells of rain across the north-west, across parts of Northern Ireland and western Scotland
00:57and a further area of showers pushing up from the south into south-eastern parts of England
01:02too.
01:03Parts of south-west England, Wales, even northern parts of England perhaps turning a little
01:06drier overnight and into the early hours of Monday.
01:09Some clear spells here but it will still be quite a mild night, though perhaps not quite
01:13as mild as Friday and Saturday.
01:15Temperatures still holding up into the double figures for most of us but perhaps a little
01:18more comfortable in terms of sleeping into the start of the new week.
01:24But for many of us it's going to be quite a damp start again, particularly across parts
01:27of Northern Ireland.
01:28Parts of Scotland will continue to see some outbreaks of rain.
01:31Across the south-east too we'll see those heavy, thundery showers and once the sun comes
01:35up almost anywhere could see a shower through the afternoon, particularly across northern
01:39parts of England but almost anywhere seeing those heavier downpours.
01:43Some hail, some thunder mixed in too and a little breezy in and around those showers.
01:48However, it's the north-west that holds on to those longer spells of rain through the afternoon.
01:53Once again where you see the sunshine it will still be feeling pleasantly warm, 24, 25, perhaps
01:58even 26 degrees again and in the north into the low 20s although always just feeling that
02:03little bit cooler where we hold on to that cloud and rain through the afternoon.
02:08Looking further ahead and the picture isn't changing too much, plenty more heavy and thundery
02:12showers are on the cards.
