00:00Let's take a look and see what family we've got this week.
00:03Hello, we're the Amarolls. My name's Mike Amaroll.
00:07This is my wife, Lorraine.
00:09And we have three boys, Ryan, who's nine,
00:12Logan, who's four, and Cade is two.
00:15We own a restaurant. We work there six and a half, seven days a week.
00:19I feel overwhelmed being a mother and also a restaurant owner.
00:23Mom's running around like a headless chicken.
00:26The boys' behavior at the restaurant just pushes us to the limit.
00:29The restaurant's an amusement park.
00:41A lot of times we don't know where the boys are at the restaurant.
00:44Ryan, are you in there?
00:49Oh, there's knives.
00:51Come on, Gabe.
00:52A new employee, after a few days,
00:54realizes that everybody kind of helps out with the kids.
00:58Nothing better.
00:59Our partner, Chris, at the restaurant, she works with us daily.
01:02They treat this more like it's their home rather than it's a place of work.
01:05They'll be running around and you can't get them to stop.
01:08We have people in the dining room, so you have to be quiet.
01:10I would love our children to respond better to discipline.
01:13Sit in the time out and don't move.
01:15Hey, don't hit me.
01:16Logan, stop.
01:17I'm talking to you.
01:20Homework takes three or four hours with Ryan.
01:22Ryan, you need to be doing your homework and you need to stay away from him.
01:30Supernanny, we need your help.
01:32We're going in five different directions here.
01:34I feel, you know, like there's utter chaos as a parent and also as a restaurant owner.
01:40This family could sure do with my help.
01:42I'm on my way.
01:43Can I speak to Lorraine, please?
01:56This is Lorraine.
01:57Hi, Lorraine.
01:58Pleased to meet you.
01:59Nice to meet you.
02:00My first impression of Jo was she was very warm and friendly, but I felt a little nervous,
02:05you know, because I didn't know what to expect.
02:07This is my husband, Michael.
02:08Hi, Michael.
02:09Pleased to meet you.
02:10When she first hit the door, it seemed like she was all business.
02:13Hair is up, glasses.
02:14This is a first for me.
02:16Exactly.
02:17Coming into a restaurant.
02:18And if we need your help, you can help out a little.
02:20I'm going to be watching today.
02:22Chopping a little or something.
02:23Today what I'm going to do is observe you and take mental notes and I'm just going to
02:28watch and see how you guys get on with things, really.
02:31Hi, Jo.
02:32Hi, pleased to meet you.
02:33Hi, Chris.
02:34Nice to meet you.
02:35I'm Michael and Lorraine's partner.
02:36Pleased to meet you, Jo.
02:37I was a little intimidated at first.
02:39She seemed a bit more stern than I was expecting.
02:42Who's this little one?
02:43Kate.
02:44Hi, Kate.
02:45Pleased to meet you.
02:46You shake Jojo's hand.
02:48Your other two, where are they?
02:49At school?
02:50Uh-huh.
02:51We're going to pick them up shortly.
02:52He's watching Daddy cook for a few minutes.
02:53Okay.
03:01I noticed pretty quickly that Kate had nothing to keep him occupied.
03:05So you're here all the time?
03:06Right.
03:07Sure.
03:08We're open seven days a week, so we spend quite a bit of time here.
03:15So do you manage to get much work done while still with Kate?
03:17It's hard.
03:21And then Mum said she needed to pick up the older boys from school.
03:24I'm going to leave Kate here.
03:25How long are you going to be doing this?
03:26It's been a while, huh?
03:27I think I'm just going to hand them off to Chris, okay?
03:30Okay, go ahead.
03:31Kate?
03:32Yeah.
03:33He's cutting on your shoe right now.
03:34I couldn't believe that Kate got handed off to Chris.
03:37And then she got left with the babysitting duties.
03:40That's not a toy.
03:41No, no, no.
03:42Where you going, Kate?
03:43Come on, sweetie.
03:44Kate, come here.
03:45Kate, come here.
03:46We try not to pour drinks when we have the kids here, but we definitely take lunch orders.
03:50That's crazy.
03:51I know.
03:52My arm's getting tired.
03:54I need a little break.
03:55Kate got passed from one waitress to the next.
04:00Does that happen a lot, then?
04:01Whoever isn't busy just grabs them and is like, and pretty much just, you know, babysitting.
04:07They expect their staff to take care of their children.
04:10It's ludicrous.
04:11It's Dave, Kate!
04:12Come over here.
04:13So you babysit whilst this lady pours your drink.
04:17Is that nice?
04:18How crazy is that that you hand your child over to a customer?
04:23That's just bizarre.
04:24This one's on the house.
04:25For the babysitter.
04:29After about an hour and a half of Kate being passed around like a hot potato, mum finally
04:34returned with the older boys.
04:36Hello, boys.
04:37What's your name?
04:38Logan.
04:39Logan.
04:40Hi.
04:41Hi.
04:42Hi, Ryan.
04:43Jojo.
04:44Hi, Katie.
04:45Hi.
04:46They hadn't even been in the restaurant for 10 minutes and the boys were running all over
04:50the restaurant.
04:51Hey, Ryan.
04:52Where's Kate?
04:53But mum and myself were just running through to find out where the kids were.
04:57I mean, who knows where they were half the time.
04:59I don't know where they are right now.
05:01That's behind the line in the kitchen.
05:04Chopping onions, serving the customers.
05:06I don't want you guys running through the restaurant.
05:09No.
05:10So do you have any time, quality time with the boys just to go and hang out and be dad?
05:14Uh, we don't have too much of that.
05:16Ryan, you come through the dining room again and you're going to be grounded.
05:19Do you understand?
05:20The children lack stimulation.
05:21Ryan, let me have that drill first of all.
05:23That's not something that you should be playing with.
05:25They make up their own fun in the restaurant.
05:27They are bored.
05:28Come here.
05:29What is my rule about being in the parking lot?
05:32You're not watching the playground, is it?
05:38Lorraine, clearly, she's running at a pace that's too fast.
05:42She's trying to manage too many things at the same time.
05:47What's the toughest thing you find?
05:49Balancing my schedule and, you know, making sure that my kids' needs are met.
05:54Are they both met?
05:55No, I don't think so.
05:57The first thing I noticed about Lorraine was this great big smile she had painted on her face.
06:03But it was fake, and I could see right through that.
06:06What is it at the moment that you struggle with?
06:09What is it that makes you really upset?
06:10Trying to balance everything.
06:12How's that making you feel as a mother?
06:14I don't feel like I'm very successful as a mother sometimes.
06:18I recognized I was in the company of a woman who wasn't happy.
06:22We will get to the bottom of this.
06:25But you need to be able to talk to somebody to be able to tell them how you're feeling.
06:29And I'm glad that we're doing that today.
06:32It's not mine.
06:34Because you can't put on a brave face forever.
06:37No.
06:38Coming up on Supernanny.
06:40When push comes to shove.
06:43Joe sets mom and dad straight.
06:47You're robbing yourself as parents.
06:49I'm never going to get this back.
06:51You know, Cade being two or Logan being four.
06:54I'll never get it back.
06:56When Supernanny returns.
06:57You know, these kids, they can get really aggressive.
07:06But for some reason dad just chooses to ignore it.
07:09Who would be looking after the boys, I mean if you were in the kitchen working?
07:21Nobody's watching them.
07:31What are you doing?
07:32Knock it off.
07:33When dad ignores their behavior and they're acting up, it infuriates me.
07:36Hello, I'm talking to you, Ryan.
07:38I'm definitely one that bears the burden of disciplining the children.
07:42There is no screaming and hollering or kicking and yelling.
07:45Mum tries to discipline the children, but she just doesn't follow through with it.
07:50Stop!
07:54I want you to get your backpack now and start your homework.
07:57Back here.
07:58You can't even do it at home.
07:59Later on that afternoon, mum sacked Ryan down to do his homework.
08:04I'm going to go and start loading on the computer, okay?
08:07The minute mum left, Ryan was up from his seat and homework was the last thing on that
08:14boy's mind.
08:15Hi Susan, it's Lorraine.
08:16How are you?
08:17Huh?
08:18It's clear to me that Ryan could do with some extra focus on his homework.
08:22But Michael and Lorraine, they're just too busy to help him.
08:25Come on, let's go.
08:28See you guys later.
08:30Ryan, what are you doing?
08:32Logan.
08:33Mum struggled throughout the whole of the afternoon trying to keep those kids in line.
08:36And then decided, right, it was time to go home.
08:40So off we all went.
08:45And within ten minutes of arriving home, mum was like, bye.
08:49I'm going to go to work now, so Marie's going to watch the children.
08:53How many times a week do you do that?
08:54Three to four nights a week.
08:55Wow.
08:56Alright boys, can I have a kiss goodbye?
08:57I have a kiss.
08:58Be good, okay?
08:59Alright, bye.
09:00Have a good night.
09:01Boys, be good.
09:02Love you.
09:03Bye bye.
09:04Love you.
09:05Bye bye.
09:06It's a shame that she has gone back to the restaurant and hasn't decided to stay at home with the children.
09:13Bye bye.
09:14Shut your butt.
09:15Logan.
09:16What's the name?
09:17No, right.
09:18You don't have to come.
09:20I can't find you in the pencils.
09:22Lorraine's schedule needs to change.
09:24She needs to get some priorities straight.
09:27Lorraine and Michael need to realise that their children's needs have to be met.
09:32They need to find a balance.
09:33Alright boys, I'll see you tomorrow.
09:35I'll see myself out.
09:36I'll let you deal with the boys.
09:37Okay, thank you.
09:38Bye bye.
09:39I've definitely seen more than my fair share and I'm just really excited about getting
09:44back tomorrow and helping them deal with this situation.
09:50When I first arrive at a family's home or in this case, the restaurant, I take mental
09:58notes, I observe, I watch the family dynamics and I look out for those issues that need to
10:03be addressed.
10:04This morning, I arrived at the restaurant and was able to catch Lorraine and Michael before
10:09the doors of their restaurant opened.
10:11Hello.
10:12Good morning.
10:13Good morning.
10:14Good morning.
10:15How are you both?
10:16Good.
10:17How are you?
10:18Very well, thank you.
10:19I would love to sit down with a pair of you and have a talk.
10:20Sure.
10:21Alright, let's go over here.
10:22I was nervous when we went into the family meeting.
10:23I feel like we desperately need some changes in our family and I am open and willing to hear
10:28what Joe has to say.
10:30Can I applaud you on your beautiful restaurant as I see before me and see the amount of work
10:39that goes into it.
10:40You have lovely boys, sprightly young lads, but I've got to say that you guys have forgotten
10:55that you've got kids.
10:56Let's talk about some of the issues that I've seen.
11:01The children are using the restaurant as their activity centre.
11:07Well, these guys want to be active, want to be running around, want to be in everything.
11:12Personally, I cannot believe that you give the responsibility to your staff to look after your children when it's your responsibility.
11:25The person that gets the most of that babysitting is your partner, Chris.
11:31Right.
11:32She doesn't want to feel like she's always got to take care of the kids.
11:34She wants to be able to do what her job is.
11:37Yeah, you're right.
11:38I mean, they are our kids.
11:40There has to be a reality check somewhere along the line.
11:44You guys are so focused on what you're doing when you're at work.
11:49And having that focus and attention at work means that you cannot give what is necessary for the kids.
12:00And that makes it very unfair because they do have their needs.
12:04There's got to be balance.
12:07There's got to be children in this picture.
12:11And there aren't children in the picture at the moment from where I stand.
12:16They need your time.
12:18They need your love.
12:19They need those moments.
12:21You need those moments.
12:23You're robbing yourself as parents.
12:26It's been very difficult to figure out what's important, what's not, and put it in perspective.
12:33Which really needs to be more time spent with our kids, because I'm never going to get this back.
12:39I will never get, you know, Cade being two or Logan being four or Ryan.
12:45I'll never get it back.
12:47So, I just struggle with that.
12:50Who, who said you had to be a super mum?
12:56Nobody.
12:58I put all that on myself because, you know, I wanted to be in both places, but I just can't do it.
13:06You guys are in a perfect position to be able to say, I'm going to invest in the same amount of time and effort as I do with my business into my kids.
13:19You could do that, right or wrong?
13:22Yeah.
13:23Yeah, we could do that.
13:24One of the biggest things that Joe said to us was that we're missing out on time with the kids.
13:29And I don't want to miss that time with my boys.
13:31I really don't.
13:32The eye opener was that my work and family life was definitely out of balance.
13:35I'm ready to make some changes.
13:37So, are you guys fully committed to wanting to invest emotionally?
13:42Of course.
13:43In your family?
13:44All right, then let's get off these doors and start work.
13:46Okay.
13:47Let's get up on Supernanny.
13:49When it comes to Joe's routine.
13:50I would love to see, dad.
13:52One additional day.
13:54The kids get a dose of their own medicine.
13:56Ah, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la.
14:01When Supernanny returns.
14:03But first, a tip from Supernanny.
14:05Parents, when you come to a restaurant with your children, don't automatically assume there will be things to occupy them.
14:11to occupy them make sure you bring crayons and their coloring pads so they
14:15can be occupied whilst they're waiting for dinner
14:23for me it was essential to go back to the Admiral family and place a routine
14:30in their restaurant in order for them to have any harmony that had to be
14:35balanced between work and family life. This is your new family routine. Okay so you
14:51understand how this splits up when we've got green it's when you're in the
14:54restaurant and when we've got a red it's when you guys are at home. I liked the
14:58new schedule and it definitely gave me a starting point of finding balance
15:03between work and home. 3.30 to 4.30 dad I want you whilst the boys are at the
15:10restaurant to go out back with the boys and spend an hour with them. I would love
15:15to spend more time with my boys and you know we are missing out on that family
15:20time. At 4.30 to 5.30 Ryan homework and Cade and Logan supervise play so I want
15:27time spent with Ryan doing his homework so that you can help him. I like the new
15:32routine because I know when mom dad's gonna be home and I know when like we're
15:37gonna do stuff. Time off. I would love to see dad one additional day. Mom you were
15:44working before four nights a week. Right. What I want to see is that cut in half now.
15:50Okay. I think we really need to understand that there needs to be a big compromise
15:56here. I think my family desperately needed a new routine. I didn't think that that was
16:00gonna be possible because we do have a crazy schedule. What do you think of that?
16:03Yeah. That sounds good. I'm ready to try it. Yeah. I think it might be hard for us in the
16:07beginning to get into this routine. I really feel like I need to give as much
16:11time as I do to the restaurant. So it's up here. One here in the office and then
16:15another one will be put up at home as well. Okay.
16:18Okay. Okie dokie. Because the children spend so much time in the restaurant I think it's
16:27important to get all three partners together to discuss the new rules for the children in
16:32the restaurant. What I want to give you is your own same page. Okay. With restaurant rules.
16:42I feel very relieved. I've never sat down and really discussed with Michael and Lorraine
16:47the kids at the restaurant. I guess I felt that it was something that was gonna be maybe insulting
16:52or offending to them. I think probably one of the most difficult things that we find is when there's
16:57customers in the restaurant and the kids are running through. So I think that that's something
17:01that we need to definitely put some guidelines. They can walk through but they don't need to run and holler.
17:06No hollering. No running in the dining room. And maybe there's an area like all the way on the back porch.
17:10They don't need to be behind the bar at all. Right. Absolutely not.
17:14Now talking about the employees and the staff. What do you think their responsibilities should be?
17:20They're probably more responsible for them than they should be right now. And they're doing it but you know
17:26it's taken away from what we hired them for. Right. So staff doesn't have to be responsible for the children.
17:32This is fantastic. You're talking, you're communicating and you're in agreement and you're placing it all down on this one page.
17:40It was amazing to me that we never the three of us sat down and actually discussed any of these issues.
17:45And I think that it will help our relationship as partners.
17:49Not only do the partners need to be on the same page but I felt it was important that their employees were as well.
17:55This is the same page. It eliminates you guys having to babysit our kids.
17:59It was a little bit uncomfortable to admit to my employees that I've been asking them to do more than, you know, beyond their call.
18:06I think they definitely had like a big sigh of relief.
18:09It would be a lot easier to work around here without having to keep an eye on the little ones.
18:16Mostly like Cade because he's so small you always have to have an eye on him.
18:21Now that the rules are up and in their place, it's important for the boys to understand that mum and dad's restaurant is a place of work and not an indoor playground.
18:31Okay, Logan and Ryan, this is what I want to teach you boys.
18:36I wanted to teach the children how to behave correctly in the dining area.
18:41And so I showed them exactly how they behaved.
18:49They watched me and just laughed. They thought it was hilarious.
18:54And then I walked back to them in the correct manner.
18:58Now what I want you to do, the pair of you, is to show me correctly the right way to walk through the dining area and come back again.
19:13Alright?
19:14Show me the correct way to walk through the dining area.
19:17There you go.
19:18Fantastic.
19:19I am loving this behaviour and look.
19:20Good, that's good.
19:21Mum and Daddy and Chris. Oh, Chris is crying. Look, Chris is so happy. She's crying. She's like, this is fantastic. Walk through with me one more time, okay?
19:42It was the first time I ever saw Ryan and Logan walking through the dining room, not running, not screaming, being quiet.
19:49So it was definitely a moment that Lorraine and I had been waiting for for quite some time.
19:54Because of the new rules, the children are not allowed in dangerous areas.
19:59Logan, Ryan, come with me.
20:01Alright.
20:02Get the boys involved.
20:03So we set up red tape on the floor to show the children where they could and could not go.
20:08I'm going to cut it.
20:10Marvellous.
20:11I can go over here.
20:12That's right.
20:13You can stay on that side, you can't come on this side.
20:15Okay.
20:16Because this is the kitchen and it's off limits.
20:18You're going to be in trouble.
20:19These lines are to be respected.
20:20Okay.
20:21Back on this side, Logan.
20:24It's quite possible that the children may test those boundaries and see whether Michael and Lorraine and Chris are going to be consistent. Who knows?
20:32If you guys cross this line, you're going to go on a time out.
20:35Over there.
20:36Right.
20:37Underneath the mirror.
20:38Underneath the mirror.
20:41The Amaral family are going to be spending much more time at home now.
20:44So I thought why not get the children involved in doing something that dad loves to do.
20:49I would love to see you with the boys set up today's lunch where you can all sit down as a family.
20:56Okay.
20:57And eat.
20:58Now I have a technique called the big chef technique.
21:01It gets the children involved.
21:03Well, when Joe said that we're going to start the big chef, that's for me.
21:06She created this for me.
21:07I can tell.
21:08Give the kids direction.
21:09Give them lots of praise to carry on and encourage them.
21:12Ready?
21:13The big chef technique is to get the children involved in the activity that you're doing.
21:19You write it and I'll help you spell it.
21:21To make sure that you dedicate small tasks for each child.
21:25Mix it around.
21:26Is it boiling yet?
21:28Yeah.
21:29Logan loves to cook.
21:30He's into it.
21:31You can tell he is.
21:32And Ryan spent some time creating a menu and that's a way that he can apply his creativity.
21:38Got it?
21:40Michael enjoys cooking with Logan.
21:42I can tell.
21:43You know, he loves to share all his tips and he definitely loved that.
21:46Okay.
21:47Dump that in.
21:50Keep mixing.
21:51Keep mixing.
21:52It's fun when I hang out with my dad.
21:54I feel like special about that because before dad would just cook a thing and I'd have to
22:01go upstairs and do nothing.
22:03But now I get to help a lot.
22:05So it's a lot better.
22:06I think the boys are happy to have me around a little more.
22:09It's definitely a little adjustment for me to make being away from the restaurant,
22:12but it's definitely good.
22:14This looks beautiful.
22:15Look you guys, you cooked dinner for daddy and I today.
22:18Isn't this nice?
22:19Yeah.
22:20It looks good.
22:21Coming up on Supernanny.
22:23Will dad step up to the plate when Joe gets the family out of the restaurant?
22:33When Supernanny returns.
22:35If your family needs Supernanny's help, apply online at www.abc.com.
22:49Okay, mum.
22:50Yes?
22:51This is homework time now and because we're at the restaurant, it doesn't mean homework stops.
22:55Right.
22:56It is very important whether Lorraine and Michael be in the restaurant or at home that they actually
23:01spend time with Ryan to help him succeed.
23:03So what I want you to do is to set Ryan up with his homework here.
23:07Okay.
23:08So that you can help and then set the boys up with some activities.
23:12So whilst they're getting on with that, you can then help Ryan.
23:15Here, Kate, do you want to do this too?
23:16Yeah.
23:17Here.
23:18If you do this too.
23:19Okay, good.
23:20You play with that.
23:21Is it 21?
23:22Excellent.
23:23All right, Ryan.
23:24Let's just calm down.
23:25Let's focus and concentrate.
23:26Find the number of marbles that were added to the marble groups to get that total.
23:30Okay.
23:31So words of encouragement.
23:32It will be 30.
23:33Right.
23:34Very good, Ryan.
23:35Bye, Ryan.
23:36Very good.
23:39Did you read that?
23:40Ryan, pay attention.
23:41Yes.
23:42Look at your paper and figure that out.
23:44Don't look at them, please.
23:50Can Ryan concentrate on what he's doing?
23:53Ryan, can you concentrate?
23:55Exactly.
23:56Exactly.
23:57No.
23:58So as soon as your environment becomes disrupted with lousy noise, okay?
24:04Okay.
24:05I want you to have a suitable place to be able to put Ryan so he can continue to carry
24:09on with his homework.
24:10Listen, sometimes you have to adapt.
24:12The boys were making far too much noise.
24:15So I asked Lorraine to move Ryan to a quieter place so he could continue with his homework.
24:20You're doing well, Ryan.
24:22Now mum's going to have to bounce back and forth to keep an eye on all of those boys.
24:27Close, though.
24:28I think I needed a homework technique and I can see that Ryan is actually focusing on his homework.
24:334 plus 11 is 12?
24:40It's 3.30.
24:42You've got back from school.
24:43What time is it today?
24:45Outside time.
24:46Baseball time.
24:47Yeah!
24:48With who?
24:49I've got some baseball stuff.
24:50Dad needs to get out of his kitchen to make his boys a priority because they need his time.
24:55So I decided to send them outside for some much needed fun.
24:58Come on, play ball.
24:59Come on, kid.
25:00Okay, Dad.
25:01Remember, this is your time now to have fun with the boys, alright?
25:04You've got all this backyard.
25:06What?
25:07Come on, Logan.
25:08Ready?
25:09Woo!
25:10If Dad can give a little of his time and have fun with the boys, they're less likely to
25:13cause trouble in the restaurant.
25:15Woo!
25:16We're good!
25:17Dad's always working, but now playing baseball with my dad, it's fun.
25:22Woo!
25:23Go, go, go, go!
25:24Go, go, go, go!
25:25Go, go, go, go, go, go, go!
25:27Go, go, go, go, go, go, go!
25:29He's all the way home!
25:31Yeah, Kay!
25:33This is the first time Dad's actually taken a whole chunk of time out of his daily schedule
25:38to spend with the boys.
25:40He probably hasn't had much practice in managing all three boys, and I think that's the challenge
25:46for Michael.
25:47Logan.
25:48Come on, come back.
25:49We're going to play.
25:50Dad, re-square the kids.
25:51Bring the boys back again.
25:53Logan, hold on.
25:54Don't run away.
25:55This has been a learning process.
25:57So far, it's been a little tough trying to keep the boys busy for an hour outside.
26:02You need to go in your time out, Logan.
26:05I said no when you jumped over there anyway, so now go.
26:07After an hour with the boys, Logan broke the rules and stepped over that line, but I
26:13was really pleased to see that Michael stepped in and took charge.
26:17Logan, you're in a time out now because you crossed the line, and so now you have to sit
26:22here for four minutes.
26:23I feel good to see that Michael's disappointing the kids, and I'm excited about that.
26:30Just ignore him.
26:31Just keep an eye on his time.
26:32And then when he's done his time, he can go back there, and I'll come back with you.
26:34Logan, you're over here now because you crossed over the red line, and you know you're not
26:39supposed to do that.
26:40I want an apology from you.
26:41Okay, stand up.
26:42Mum and Dad get so wrapped up in their business.
26:53They forget about the true things that make them happy from within, and today they found
26:58that.
26:59I'm going to play a game with these water balloons.
27:02I'm going to get you.
27:03All right, let's get a circle.
27:04Let's form a circle.
27:06There was a fantastic opportunity for Mum and Dad to enjoy being in their boys' company.
27:17Before you knew it, everyone was soaking, including myself.
27:24I think the boys are a little bit surprised to see us out there on the lawn throwing water
27:32balloons around.
27:33That was a blast.
27:34That was definitely fun, to do it all together.
27:35I was feeling pretty good out there playing the water balloons with the kids.
27:49I definitely feel like the kids really enjoyed it, and for me...
27:52All right, now is your turn to get me.
27:53It was great to have that quality time with them.
27:56Bye-bye.
27:57A little hug.
27:58I'm going to hug now.
27:59Bye.
28:00Bye.
28:01Bye.
28:02See you soon.
28:03Bye.
28:04Bye-bye.
28:05Bye-bye.
28:06Bye-bye.
28:07Bye-bye.
28:08Bye-bye.
28:09Bye-bye.
28:10Bye-bye.
28:11Bye-bye.
28:12I'm a little curious to see how things are going to go when Joe is gone.
28:16You know, we don't have the coach there to come in and tell us exactly what we need
28:20to do in this situation, so we're going to have to figure that out ourselves.
28:23I'm very excited in being able to watch them.
28:27I just hope they do really, really well.
28:30Coming up on Supernanny...
28:32Whoa!
28:33When Dad strikes out...
28:34Do not fight.
28:35Dad, you did!
28:36He has to go inside.
28:38Joe calls the plays...
28:40I've only been gone a few days.
28:41You're back to square one.
28:43...when Supernanny returns.
28:45But first, a tip from Supernanny.
28:47Parents, when in your own family kitchen, beware of the dangers.
28:51Knives, put them away.
28:53And handles on pots, turn them in.
29:04They've done a good job up until now, so let's just see how the admirals get on without me.
29:10That's great to see.
29:15Mum's sitting down with Ryan doing his homework.
29:18I want you to...
29:19When you're doing it, I want you to read the words out loud, okay?
29:22You're doing a good job, Ryan.
29:25I want you to read the words out loud.
29:27Now this isn't good.
29:28Logan's beginning to act up.
29:30I think you need to take a nap a little bit and you're tired.
29:34I'm not going to be able to finish now.
29:36Are you bored?
29:37Mum, you've got to keep him occupied.
29:39Give him something to do.
29:41Will you shut the heck up?
29:43Do you want to go sit in a timeout?
29:45But I'm telling you to stop.
29:46How can Ryan focus, Mum?
29:48You should have moved him away.
29:54Can you call MJ right now?
29:55Try that girl.
29:56I'll give you her number.
29:57Tell her.
29:59Right.
30:01Where's Mum?
30:02Why's Cade running around?
30:03Oh, it's like a date.
30:07Where is supervised play, Lorraine?
30:14Come on, Cade.
30:15Let's go play ball.
30:16He wants to play.
30:18Way to go, Dad.
30:19It's good to see you out there with the boys.
30:22Tag him out, Logan.
30:27Oh!
30:28No, Dad, you said I can do after cake.
30:30No, I didn't.
30:31I said everybody takes a turn.
30:32Yes, you did.
30:33Logan, boys, don't fight.
30:35Do not fight.
30:36Break it up, Dad.
30:37Don't let it get out of control.
30:39You're not sharing.
30:40Dad, you're dragging through after cake.
30:42I didn't say that.
30:43He has to go inside.
30:44Giving up, Dad.
30:46What are you doing going back into that restaurant?
30:49You're meant to be spending time with the boys.
30:53Michael, can I talk to you for a minute, please?
30:56You know, you took them for like 20 minutes outside.
30:59And I need some time.
31:00Okay?
31:01Okay.
31:02All right.
31:03The time now with my boys is really valuable time to me.
31:07But it's been a challenge because the bottom line is I'm still at work.
31:10Daddy!
31:11Stop doing it.
31:12Dad, if you'd have played for an hour earlier with the boys, they would have used up all
31:23of their energy.
31:24And they wouldn't be acting up in the car now.
31:25Let go of his arm.
31:26Stop hitting me.
31:27Logan, stop.
31:28Logan, stop hitting him.
31:29Dad, they're not going to respond to shouting.
31:30They're bored.
31:31Okay, that doesn't feel good.
31:32Ow!
31:33Stop!
31:34Don't do that.
31:35Keep your hands to yourself.
31:36You guys could do with some strong reminders.
31:49I'm heading back.
31:50Hiya.
31:51Hi.
31:52Good to see you.
31:53Good to see you as well.
31:54You well?
31:55Yes, very well.
31:56Good.
31:57I always look forward to coming back and showing the parents the DVD footage because it allows
32:07me to give them the opportunity to see where they've gone wrong so we can mend those mistakes.
32:12So whilst I've been away for a couple of days, I've been having a look at some footage.
32:17So here goes.
32:18Good to have you.
32:19I want you to, when you're doing it, I want you to read the words out loud, okay?
32:23You're doing a good job, Ryan.
32:26Will you shut the heck up?
32:31He managed to do his homework.
32:34However, having Logan on the same table presents itself with a problem for you.
32:40Ryan says, be quiet, Logan.
32:43But Logan wants to be involved.
32:45Finding things for Logan to do will be key for you.
32:48That's good.
32:49Right.
32:50Yeah.
32:51Kate.
32:52Kate, look at me.
32:55Kate's cruising around.
32:57Where was the routine?
33:00It was meant to be that you're in the office and he's set up with activities.
33:04Right.
33:05But the routine's not being used.
33:07I mean, it really is crucial for you guys to be able to balance between the restaurant and home.
33:14So if you guys don't put that routine in place, the children won't get their time that is needed from you guys.
33:23Come on, Kate.
33:24Let's go play ball.
33:25You won.
33:26You won.
33:27Whoa!
33:28Don't fight.
33:29Do not fight.
33:30He has to go inside.
33:31It's about the boys getting your hour and them able to have that time with you because they so desperately need it.
33:39Stop doing it.
33:40Stop hitting me.
33:41Logan, stop hitting him.
33:42On this day, the boys didn't get their hour.
33:43They didn't get all of your time.
33:44And now they're getting it by misbehaving.
33:57You need to be giving them that hour and then stimulating them in the car in a positive way.
34:03When I saw myself on DVD, I learned that the mistakes were things that I did.
34:09And the boys react differently if the techniques are not followed exactly.
34:15I'm here for the whole of today to be able to reinforce these techniques so that we can make amendments to the footage that we have seen where it's gone wrong.
34:26I've accomplished a lot with the restaurant and it's definitely evolved.
34:29But at the same time, you know, I want my children to be happy and I want to be a good mother.
34:34And that's really more important to me.
34:37So, are you ready?
34:39Ready.
34:40All right, let's get to work then.
34:41Coming up on Super Nanny.
34:43So now we're driving home together.
34:44The kids are in for a ride.
34:46Who's the black team?
34:48When dad launches into action.
34:50Hey!
34:52When Super Nanny returns.
34:57Okay, mum.
34:58Let's go spend some time with Cade, all right?
35:01It was crucial for me to go through the supervised play again.
35:05Because mum went back to square one and ignored the routine.
35:09All right, this is nice and light-hearted.
35:11Lots of fun.
35:12We're going to play a little game.
35:13You want to play a game with mum?
35:14Where's number one here in the shapes?
35:16Good kid, where's one?
35:17Good kid!
35:18Lots of prizes!
35:19Well done!
35:20See that?
35:21Well, you're back here.
35:22I just got a call.
35:23Can you fax that menu over to Sandra?
35:24Oh, sure.
35:25Okay.
35:26Yeah, no problem.
35:28Mommy's going to go do fax.
35:29I'll be right back.
35:30You press the numbers in, okay?
35:31Okay, keep talking while you're doing it.
35:32Cade, you keep putting your numbers in.
35:33All right, sure.
35:34Mommy, look at the numbers.
35:35You putting the numbers in?
35:36Good boy.
35:37You're doing a good job.
35:38Mom learned to juggle work in the office, but at the same time, give Cade the attention
35:51that he needed from her.
35:52All right, it's all done.
35:53We did the fax.
35:54It was important for us to reinforce this situation today.
35:57I like that.
35:58Because I don't want to see you back to square one.
35:59Neither do I.
36:00No, but you did good.
36:02I noticed that Logan doesn't like to take turns.
36:07So I introduced the play by the rules technique.
36:10So that play time doesn't turn into a fight.
36:13The object here is to have fun with the boys, because it's your hour with them.
36:16But at the same time, we're going to go through Cher as well, so that they learn how to do that.
36:20Because that was a problem when you were last out here.
36:22All right, here's the game.
36:23Logan and Ryan, look.
36:24Whoever gets the highest score wins the game, okay?
36:27But we've got to take turns, because we're only going to use one at a time.
36:30So you're going to get your turn, Logan, and then Ryan will have his turn.
36:33Put your toes right in front here on the line.
36:35Oh!
36:36Oh!
36:37Good shot there!
36:38That's a good one, Logan.
36:39All right.
36:40Oh!
36:41Logan, get ready.
36:42Oh!
36:43All right.
36:44Now Ryan's going to shoot one.
36:45No, no, no.
36:46Now, it's going to be Ryan's turn now.
36:47I want to throw one more.
36:48No, no, no.
36:49Do it, Logan.
36:50Hold on.
36:51No, no, no.
36:52Do it, Logan.
36:53You took one.
36:54Now Ryan's going to have one, too.
36:55Tell him to give it to you.
36:56Say, give me please.
36:57Have it right away.
36:58Yeah.
36:59Straight away.
37:00You nip that straight in the bar, all right?
37:01Dad needs to remember that when the kids are not sharing, he needs to put a stop to that
37:07behavior.
37:08Good shot.
37:09Logan, get ready.
37:10Your turn again, Logan.
37:11I'd like to work on having more fun with the boys, teaching them how to share.
37:15That's going to make it easier for us to spend time.
37:17Dad, keep reinforcing.
37:18Whose turn is it?
37:19Hey!
37:20All right.
37:21There you go, Logan.
37:22All right.
37:23Now it's Ryan's turn.
37:24It's about Logan recognizing he needs to share.
37:26Logan, Ryan's turn.
37:27Come on.
37:28Let's go.
37:29It's a tie.
37:30Look at you.
37:31All right.
37:32We got a tie.
37:33Michael did very well with the technique.
37:36He was able to see when the problem was arising and nip it in the bud.
37:41And as a result, they had a happier time and all enjoyed themselves.
37:45I could tell that Dad needed some suggestions on how to engage the boys in the car.
37:52So now we're driving home together.
37:53Yeah.
37:54All right?
37:55Look at all the boys.
37:56Look.
37:57Playing football.
37:58Play soccer.
37:59Football in English.
38:01Who's the black team?
38:03Football.
38:04Joe kind of pointed out that the trick in the car is to keep the boys engaged in some kind
38:09of conversation.
38:10You've got to talk to them or keep them interested and it's a good opportunity to do that.
38:14Have you guys noticed that every time it rains, like at night, all the frogs come out on
38:19the road?
38:20It used to be the swamp but then, you know, now they put the new road in.
38:24Isn't it a swamp?
38:25Well, it used to be like there was no road.
38:28I couldn't believe that we're in the car driving and the boys are not whacking each other in the head.
38:33You know, they actually, we could carry on a conversation and it was interesting.
38:38It was fun.
38:39So this is good, Dad.
38:40With Dad engaging the boys in the car, it means that they'll be excited to have stimulating conversation
38:46with him.
38:47They won't start fighting with one another or acting up, which means the car journey is going
38:52to be stress free for everyone.
38:54That was good.
38:55I'm glad that we weren't hitting and fighting like we were the other day.
38:59So this has been good.
39:01It's going to be a tough job.
39:10It's challenging for any parent.
39:12So I just hope that as a team, they work together so they can maintain that balance.
39:17Mom, Dad, please keep up with it.
39:22All right?
39:23Keep that scale even.
39:25You're more than welcome.
39:26Take care, Michael.
39:27All right?
39:28I'm Miss Jo.
39:31We enjoyed having her here.
39:35This family needed a good routine that allowed them to have quality time as a family.
39:42And because of that, these guys are going to have a better quality of life.
39:58Come on.
39:59Come on, guys.
40:00Maybe we'll find a little gator.
40:05I've seen huge changes in our family.
40:07The boys are calmer.
40:08It's good for me because I get to spend time with them.
40:11Look at the fish.
40:12Okay, look at the little fish right here.
40:13You see them?
40:14This has been a growing process for me, and I think I've changed quite a bit.
40:18I do feel like a better mother now.
40:19I think Lorraine has gained confidence, and Michael and Lorraine spend more quality time
40:25with the kids.
40:26Daddy, I need you to drive me car.
40:28I would love to tell working mothers to keep a balance and, you know, take a look at yourself
40:34once in a while before you spend four years doing the wrong thing.
40:39It makes you realize, you know, what's important.
40:41Family comes first.
40:43Joe has just helped our family immensely.
40:46I think for both of us, and for the boys, it's been a very rewarding experience.
40:52JoJo's been good for our family because we get to do more stuff with Mom and Dad.
40:57This process has definitely brought us closer together.
41:01I didn't realize how much I was missing out.
41:03There comes a wave.
