00:00Well, we are finally done with the rain. The sun is back and temperatures will slowly be warming up.
00:04As we head into next week, we're in for a drier and eventually warmer than normal pattern.
00:19Well, the rain is done finally and boy, did we get quite a bit.
00:23On average, almost three inches of rain in the Twin Cities metro.
00:27And that was part of this kind of bullseye right over south-central Minnesota.
00:30But a wide area of more than two inches of rain there, all in red.
00:34Not having a huge impact on this week's drought monitor yet because the data cutoff is 7 a.m. Tuesday.
00:39So it only includes part of this most recent rainfall.
00:43Still have some moderate drought hanging on to parts of western, northwestern, and north-central Minnesota.
00:47But I think that'll be trimmed back next week, too.
00:51Skies cleared out overnight, north to south, and it was a frosty morning.
00:54A lot of places up north, near or slightly below freezing.
00:57Hibbing was 26 degrees at sunrise.
01:00Pretty chilly.
01:01But we've got the sunshine today, but you can see some instability.
01:04Fair weather cumulus kind of building in from Wisconsin.
01:07So the next couple of afternoons, we will see some of these fair weather cumulus clouds pop up here
01:11with that leftover cool air aloft and a little moisture here in the atmosphere.
01:15So as we warm things up, you'll see a few of those clouds build in.
01:18But overall, brighter conditions certainly in the next few days.
01:21Into the 60s today, another frost advisory for northeastern Minnesota tonight.
01:25All of those same areas that were frosty this morning could be very close to the freezing mark again.
01:30But this is pretty average for them.
01:32Most northeastern Minnesota locations, average last frost is sometime in late May.
01:38But we will see pretty widespread low to mid-30s there across northeastern Minnesota.
01:42Staying in the 40s here in the Twin Cities and most of southern Minnesota.
01:45Back into the mid-60s tomorrow, pretty much statewide.
01:48A little cooler into the Arrowhead, otherwise not bad.
01:51And then skipping ahead to Sunday, that's when we start to see the temperature shift a little bit.
01:55Closer to 70, both Sunday and Monday, Memorial Day itself.
01:59And then next week, we continue that warming trend.
02:01And it still looks mostly dry for most of us most of the time.
02:05That's the big asterisk there.
02:06There will be some isolated or spotty showers.
02:09Mainly north Saturday, mainly south on Memorial Day.
02:12But in the central part of the state, I think we'll be kind of poised for the majority of the dry weather here.
02:19So total rainfall in the European model, Friday to Monday, kind of paints the picture.
02:23Anything we see is going to be light and pretty spotty.
02:27So definitely no washout here for the weekend.
02:29But it's also not going to be hot.
02:31You're not going to want to go swimming necessarily.
02:33We've been in this cool pattern here across the northern U.S.
02:35Heat wave in the south.
02:37That pattern is shifting.
02:38It gave us a lot of rainfall, but next week, the south is going to be cool.
02:42So Texas gets a break from their heat wave.
02:44That means 80s and 90s instead of 90s and 100s.
02:48And we will see above-normal temperatures here mid to late week.
02:51That means 70s and 80s returning to the area by next Friday.
02:55Still a week away, but I think we'll be in the 80s here across much of the state.
02:58Maybe even earlier, potentially by Thursday.
03:01And that will set us up for a warm last couple days of May into the first couple days of June.
03:06And drier than normal conditions, too.
03:08Next week, overall, for us in the north-central part of the U.S.,
03:11the south gets the wet weather that will keep their temperatures cooler than average, too.
03:16So until we get those dew points up, we're not looking at widespread precip or severe weather.
03:20By late next weekend, dew points finally start to open up from the Gulf.
03:24Could see some stickier air, but that's not until maybe next Sunday.
03:28So until then, no widespread soaking rains.
03:31Just gradually warming temperatures to those normals and beyond, which is now in the low 70s.
03:37We should be back above normal by Wednesday and then the rest of next week.
03:41But in the meantime, a little cooler than normal, but not bad.
03:44The sunshine will feel nice.
03:4660s by day, close to 70.
03:48And overnight still in the 40s to near 50 degrees.
03:51And with just, again, some isolated chances of rain here over the weekend and early next week.
