00:00We recap yesterday's storms, take a look at the cooler, windier pattern ahead with more showers,
00:05and eventually when we crawl out of this cool slump next week.
00:18So the storms delivered yesterday. We had several tornado reports. It appears about
00:24eight preliminary tornado touchdowns and two funnels that were spotted. Western central
00:30Minnesota into western Wisconsin and one possible funnel that came right through Minneapolis or at
00:36least a wall cloud it appeared that many folks saw over MSP airport and then tracked right through
00:42uptown downtown into northeast Minneapolis. And just to show you where I was, it passed right over
00:47my house. Now by the time they came over northeastern Minneapolis, it was definitely more disorganized,
00:53but this is possibly the feature that a lot of folks had seen earlier in the south metro as a
00:59possible funnel or wall cloud. So the system really kind of disintegrated pretty quickly as it moved
01:04through the city, but that's about as close as you get to a tornado in the heart of the city
01:07without it actually touching down. Thank heavens. We also picked up some rainfall, not as much as we
01:13needed, and it really depends upon where you were because that's the nature of thunderstorm rain.
01:17Some spots up to an inch of rain, but southern Minnesota being largely missed. But importantly,
01:22on those fires in northeastern Minnesota, about three to four, five tenths of an inch of rain.
01:27Again, not enough to put it out, but that combined with the cooler temperatures, higher humidity,
01:33will allow crews to really fight or at least contain those fires. So the system is still spinning
01:39over us that prompted all the weather yesterday. We've got an upper level cutoff low, rain spinning
01:44around it, and lots of wind too. It looks like a hurricane there from space. And southern Minnesota,
01:48we are going to have quite a bit of wind today. 15 to 30 mile an hour sustained winds,
01:52gusts as high as 40, 50 plus miles an hour. So we have that wind advisory in western and southern
01:57Minnesota. It's still windy tomorrow, but not as windy at least. And these are the wind gusts over
02:02the last 24 hours. Now, what you're seeing in South Dakota, those are from the severe storms from the
02:06night before. But many of these 50 to 60 mile an hour wind gusts are just from the system itself,
02:11not from thunderstorms here over the last 24 hours as that front came through. Our high of the day is behind us.
02:17We're going to see temperatures continue to fall here, mostly in the 50s for the better part of
02:21the state. Southeastern Minnesota will actually still squeeze out a kind of warm day there near
02:2570, but we're going to be in for a midday, early afternoon round of rain, and then continued spinning
02:31showers for northern Minnesota tomorrow, more spotty tomorrow. And yes, those are snow showers.
02:36Places like International Falls, Halleck that were in the 90s for the start of the week,
02:42might end the week with snowflakes. I don't think we'll see snow fall.
02:45Most of the models keep that into Ontario, but awfully close. And still,
02:50just to even talk about that possibility in the region after the heat wave we had is pretty nuts.
02:55Tonight, temperatures will be colder, mid-40s Twin Cities, but look at northwestern Minnesota,
02:59close to freezing. Yeah, Halleck was 100 last Sunday, upper 90s Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
03:05and now close to freezing. Just 50s for highs tomorrow, 40s in northern Minnesota. That'll set us
03:10up for a cold overnight tomorrow night, frosty for much of the northern part of the state.
03:14So if you're in the northern third of the state, you're going to want to be prepared for possible
03:20frost if you have planted anything or put anything out. And still pretty cloudy tomorrow. Clouds today,
03:25clouds tomorrow. It's the nature of these systems. But by Sunday, I think we'll see more in the way
03:30of sunshine. Tomorrow, as far as southern Minnesota, some peaks of sun. But Sunday looks brighter,
03:34more of a mix of clouds and sun, an even mix. And that'll help the temperatures too. It should be in
03:39a low to mid-60s. That is about eight degrees below normal, though, and staying in the 50s
03:44for northern Minnesota. And we're going to stay cooler than normal through the middle of the week
03:48and kind of a series of upper-level lows for the central U.S. The next one to affect us will come
03:53in Monday night into Tuesday, bringing, again, another shot at some rain showers. This looks to
03:57be mainly a southern Minnesota rainfall where we could see anywhere from an inch or two of rain.
04:03But some of the models have been starting to shift south. So we'll have to watch that to see
04:07if that trend continues because then it might miss the Twin Cities area. But we're about two inches
04:11behind for most of the state now after these two very dry, very warm weeks. So we definitely need
04:16some moisture. So we're in this series of upper-level low pattern that I talked about. That's cold air
04:21aloft. That means cooler, wetter, cloudier conditions. But by the end of next week, looks like
04:27things start to build back towards more of a upper-level ridge pattern, which means warmer temperatures,
04:32drier, and brighter conditions. But yeah, today and tomorrow, polar opposite of what we had the last
04:38several days. Almost a 30-degree difference in those temperatures. Sunday, again, a little bit
04:43better. A bit of a break to Monday before. More rain Monday night into Tuesday. Could have a lingering
04:49shower early Wednesday, but I think we'll see the sun break out. And by Thursday, there we are,
04:54more seasonable again. 72 the high, which is about average by that point. And it looks like early
05:00sneak peek at next weekend, Memorial Weekend. We should see more seasonable temperatures,
05:04mostly in the 70s, southern Minnesota, 60s north. And I don't see a lot of rain, at least. Maybe
05:10a slight rain chance later in that holiday weekend.
