Welcome to your National Weather Outlook. Kind of a sunshine sandwich on Friday
00:05
with much of northern England, the Midlands and Wales having a fine day. We
00:09
do have some scattered showers further north and across the southeast there is
00:13
this band of cloud in the satellite image. You can see on the radar there
00:16
some heavy bursts of rain and that's not going anywhere. It's a slow-moving
00:20
weather front that's likely to pep up at times through the day. So across the far
00:24
southeast that rain is going to be quite heavy and could last into Saturday. So it
00:29
could cause a few problems and we do have a Met Office yellow warning in
00:33
place covering parts of Kent and Sussex. Away from the southeast though as I said
00:37
many places dry and bright. The old shower for Wales and southwest England
00:40
and we'll see a few more drifting across Northern Ireland into eastern parts of
00:44
Scotland. But still some sunshine to be had. Temperatures around or perhaps a
00:49
little below average across Scotland and Northern Ireland. But further south we
00:53
could get up to 18-19 degrees Celsius. But feeling cooler with that persistent
00:58
rain across the southeast. Now that is a cause for concern. There is some very
01:02
heavy rain mixed up in that and just how much of it falls across parts of Kent
01:06
and Sussex still open to a bit of doubt. Most of it looks like being out at sea
01:09
but if it if it does linger through the night and into Saturday I said it could
01:13
cause a few issues. Certainly a lot of spray and surface water on the roads. The M2 and
01:18
the M23 for example. Away from the far southeast though the weather a bit more
01:22
straightforward. It's northerly breezes generally clear skies. The odd shower
01:27
drifting in on that breeze across West Wales perhaps southwest England one or
01:31
two maybe along North Sea coast. But for many dry and clear and as a result it's
01:35
heading a bit chilly. Temperatures well down into single figures across parts of
01:40
northern Britain and so not far of freezing through some sheltered glens
01:44
across Scotland. With that cloud persisting across the southeast
01:47
temperatures holding up here a little bit higher. But that rain could still be
01:51
around on Saturday morning. As I say some uncertainty about exactly when that will
01:54
clear away. A few showers drifting into East Anglia and coming into Lincolnshire
02:00
and Yorkshire as well. And one or two through the day could develop over North
02:04
Wales and perhaps come the afternoon into parts of the Midlands. But I
02:07
suspect they'll be pretty well scattered. Most places staying dry and bright with
02:10
some sunshine. Certainly across much of Scotland and Northern Ireland are fine.
02:14
If slightly fresh feeling day and eventually even the rain in the
02:18
southeast should peter out. Temperature wise so dropping down a little bit. A
02:24
little bit below average mostly 15 to 17 degrees Celsius. And it's going to turn
02:28
colder still as we go through Saturday night. It will be fairly chilly. Still a
02:33
few showers around across parts of the Midlands. Southeast England heading out
02:36
on Saturday night. But for most it will be dry and clear. And for most high
02:41
pressure will bring a fine day on Sunday as well. This high toppling in will
02:45
finally get rid of that weather front close to the southeast. And to say this
02:49
high pressure bringing a dry bright day for the vast majority on Sunday. But
02:54
notice up to the north deep the ugly looking area of low pressure. And this
02:58
weather front is approaching the isobar squeezing together as well. So it is
03:02
going to turn wet across northern Scotland by the end of Sunday. And it's
03:06
going to turn quite windy as well. And then this cold front swings southwards
03:10
bringing some rain with it. But look at this really opening the door to a
03:14
northerly wind. That is going to bring a very significant chill as we head into
03:19
Monday. Significant wind chill for sure. So turning much colder as we head into
03:24
Monday. The cold spell probably won't last all that long. But it's definitely
03:28
going to be chillier into next week. More on that and details of that weather
03:32
warning if you follow us across social media.
