Hello, welcome to your latest update from the Met Office.
00:03
Plenty more September sunshine for most parts of the country
00:07
today.
00:08
Light winds for most of us as well,
00:09
but it is clouding over in Western Scotland.
00:12
It's getting quite windy here, with the strongest winds
00:15
overnight.
00:16
Here's the big pitch.
00:17
You can see quite a lot of cloud on the satellite image,
00:19
but this is mostly very high cirrus, very thin cloud,
00:23
and it's just making the sunshine a little hazy
00:25
in places.
00:26
But the cloud is thickening in Western Scotland,
00:28
a bit of drizzly rain pushing into the Western Isles,
00:31
trickling into the Highlands as well.
00:33
Maybe the odd spot in the northwest of Northern Ireland
00:35
as well.
00:36
But for most places, dry and fine.
00:37
Some cloud will bubble up through the day.
00:40
Most places hanging on to the hazy sunshine, though.
00:43
And it is pretty warm.
00:44
It's been a very warm September.
00:45
That continues widely over 20 Celsius,
00:49
certainly across most of England and Wales.
00:50
And in Northeast Scotland, 22, maybe 23 Celsius here,
00:54
but cooler with that wetter weather in the Northwest.
00:57
Now, most of that rain fairly light,
00:58
as it trickles its way southwards.
01:00
But later in the night, a more active weather front
01:03
swings in.
01:03
That'll bring some heavy rain to the northwest of Scotland
01:07
and also some gusty winds.
01:08
Overnight gusts of 15 in exposed places,
01:11
maybe as much as 60 miles an hour.
01:14
Further south, though, the winds stay fairly light,
01:17
a bit breezier than last night.
01:18
That will help to prevent mist and fog for many.
01:20
But with the lightest winds in the south here,
01:22
some mist and fog patches are likely
01:24
across Southern England and South Wales to start Wednesday
01:27
morning, and it will turn quite chilly as well
01:29
with those clear skies, certainly
01:31
across the Midlands, parts of Southern England,
01:33
temperatures down into single digits.
01:36
On to the details for Wednesday, and for many,
01:38
it's another fine day.
01:39
We will start, I suspect, with more clouds
01:41
across parts of Northern England,
01:43
maybe the odd spot of rain.
01:44
Quite a wet day in Western Scotland,
01:46
but it'll take most of the day before that rain
01:48
creeps its way slowly towards Glasgow,
01:51
and eventually some rain arriving
01:52
on the north coast of Northern Ireland.
01:54
But Belfast, Edinburgh, probably staying dry and bright
01:57
throughout, and certainly across the south,
01:59
plenty more sunny spells.
02:00
And the far north of Scotland will actually brighten up
02:02
after a wet start to the day.
02:05
Still quite windy, although the strongest winds
02:06
will be overnight, but a gusty day at times
02:09
across Northern Britain, making it feel a little cooler,
02:12
even though temperatures will still be above average.
02:14
And further south, we're again looking at temperatures
02:17
widely over 20 Celsius, 23 as possible across the southeast.
02:22
That rain band will spread into central Scotland
02:24
during Wednesday evening, and we'll
02:26
see some outbreaks of rain trickling southwards
02:28
across Northern Ireland also, and some showers
02:31
following into the far north, where
02:32
it stays pretty blustery.
02:34
In fact, it's going to be quite windy through the rest
02:36
of this week across Northern Britain.
02:38
Weather systems moving in here.
02:40
Weather fronts at times bringing some showery rain,
02:42
but all the time, this area of high pressure
02:44
keeping things mostly fine across the south.
02:48
So a bit of a north-south split through the rest of this week.
02:50
Many places will stay dry and bright with sunny spells,
02:54
but certainly across the north, it will be windy at times.
02:56
But overall, although there'll be some chilly mornings,
02:59
temperatures remain above average for the time of year.
