Welcome to your national weather update.

and you'll never miss a forecast.
00:06
And there's plenty going on over the next few days.
00:08
Out in the Atlantic, things are developing.
00:11
But ahead of that, actually, our low pressure system
00:14
is sitting still out to the east.
00:16
And we've still got the air coming down from the north,
00:18
hence why it's been so chilly for much of this week.
00:20
This little weather front is just pepping the rain up
00:22
during the night, initially across southeast Scotland,
00:25
northeast England, but spreading south across northern England
00:28
into the Midlands, parts of Wales,
00:30
and eventually parts of southern England,
00:32
seeing that rain by dawn.
00:33
A few showers coming on behind across the borders
00:36
and northeastern England.
00:37
But otherwise, most places will be largely dry overnight.
00:42
And temperatures stipping down to single figures
00:44
for England and Wales, parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland,
00:47
staying a little bit milder in double digits.
00:50
Onto the details for Thursday, we
00:51
are going to start with a lot of cloud
00:53
and some outbreaks of rain, especially for Pembrokeshire
00:55
and southern counties of England.
00:57
But I think quite quickly, that rain should fizzle out.
01:00
It may take a while before it clears completely
01:02
from Cornwall and the Channel Isles.
01:04
And we will see a few showers following on behind
01:06
across, again, southeast Scotland, northeast England.
01:09
They may drift towards east Anglia and the Midlands
01:11
by the afternoon.
01:13
Some scattered showers for eastern Scotland,
01:15
but I say for many places, certainly western Scotland,
01:18
much of northern Ireland, and much of southern England
01:20
and south Wales.
01:21
Once that early rain has cleared, most of the day
01:24
will be dry and bright.
01:26
And a touch warmer, perhaps, than recent days.
01:29
Temperatures getting close to average 17 or 18 in the south.
01:32
And for most, the winds will be a little lighter,
01:34
but still feeling fairly fresh on some of those North Sea
01:37
coasts with a brisk wind bringing a few scattered
01:40
showers in here, which will continue into the evening.
01:43
The odd one keeping going over the Midlands,
01:45
but quite rapidly tending to ease off.
01:47
And then we'll see largely clear skies for most of the night
01:51
across England and Wales.
01:53
But notice behind me something rather more dramatic.
01:56
We talked at the start about things
01:58
developing in the Atlantic.
02:00
And this bank of wet and windy weather is going to swing in.
02:03
It will bring slightly higher temperatures,
02:06
certainly compared to England and Wales,
02:07
with those clear skies.
02:08
A fairly cold start to Friday, well down into single digits.
02:12
But we will start Friday across a good part of England
02:15
with some sunshine, but fairly rapidly
02:17
clouding over across Wales.
02:19
A wet and windy start for Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:23
Some bright colours there, heavy rain.
02:25
It does move through reasonably rapidly,
02:29
spring to most areas by the end of the day.
02:31
East Anglia in the southeast will cloud over.
02:33
May not see the rain here until tea time,
02:36
but it could be a very wet Friday evening
02:38
across the southeast.
02:40
Behind it, brighter skies for Scotland and Northern Ireland
02:42
on Friday afternoon, but also a fair few blustery showers.
02:46
Temperature-wise, well, again, mid to high teens.
02:49
You're actually starting to see warmer air come in
02:51
with this wet weather, but it's not
02:53
going to feel very pleasant at all with the rain
02:55
and those strong winds.
02:57
Speaking of the winds, the strongest gusts
02:59
are likely to be across Scotland.
03:01
It's that weather system arrives through the early hours,
03:03
the gusts of wind of 50 to perhaps 60 miles an hour,
03:08
maybe a little more in exposed places.
03:10
And then the strong winds transfer from the Western Isles
03:13
to the Northern Isles during Friday afternoon.
03:15
But everywhere it will be windy.
03:17
With this wind direction, we could
03:18
see some really strong gusts along the south coast
03:21
and particularly across the Dover Strait
03:23
late in the day on Friday.
03:24
Bear that in mind if you're traveling on Friday,
03:27
getting a ferry across the channel.
03:29
As for the weekends, well, the weather should be calming down
03:32
a little bit, but you can see a bit more about that
03:34
if you watch our 10-day trend video.
03:36
That's available on YouTube and on Facebook.
