Thanks for joining me for this national weather update, dry and a bright day across much of
00:04
the eastern side of the UK. But further west, the cloud is arriving, the winds are picking
00:08
up and the rain is on its way as well. Here's the reason why. Beautiful arc here in the
00:14
satellite image. It's an area of low pressure and these weather fronts pushing in from the
00:18
west, bringing cloud and rain already to parts of Northern Ireland and that cloud and rain
00:23
increasing now across parts of England, Wales and Western Scotland too. Ahead of it, there
00:28
are one or two scattered showers over southeast Scotland, northeast England. So not completely
00:32
dry here, but much of the Midlands, eastern England and northern Scotland will stay dry
00:36
and fine. The sunshine may turn a little hazy, but generally dry and bright and a bit warmer
00:42
than it has been as well. The temperatures certainly across East Anglia in the southeast
00:45
getting into the lower, even mid-twenties. Further west, though, it won't be feeling
00:50
as warm. The breeze is picking up as well as that rain trickling in. And that rain is
00:54
going to make for a damp evening, a misty, murky old night. The rain will spread across
00:59
the Midlands into eastern parts of England through the evening, southern Scotland as
01:04
well and eventually into northern Scotland. Northern Ireland will see the rain easing
01:07
off a little bit, as it will do over parts of the Midlands and Wales. But it's still
01:12
going to be murky, misty, drizzly, a dank night and a pretty warm night as well. Certainly
01:18
a lot warmer than the previous night. Temperatures likely to hold up at 14, 15, 16 degrees. Quite
01:24
a humid feel on Thursday morning, a murky old start. Still a lot of hill fog around,
01:30
misty, drizzly conditions for much of the country. Maybe some heavier bursts of rain
01:34
across parts of Scotland. That's likely to linger across the far northeast. Elsewhere,
01:39
it will brighten up in places, in land in particular, parts of the Midlands, eastern
01:44
England may see some sunny spells. But staying fairly dull, I suspect, on the south coast
01:49
with further outbreaks of rain and scattered showers elsewhere. And actually, if it does
01:53
brighten up, if you do see some sunshine, that could spark some quite heavy showers
01:57
and even a thunderstorm in the afternoon. But I'd say many places will turn a little
02:01
brighter, a little drier through the course of the day. And it will feel quite warm and
02:05
humid through the day as well. Temperatures, certainly if you see any sunny spells over
02:08
the east, could get to 23, 24, possibly even 25 Celsius. Cooler feel across northern Scotland,
02:14
where there'll be further outbreaks of rain. Shetland, though, staying mostly dry and fine
02:18
through much of Thursday, although that rain will push its way across Orkney and towards
02:23
Shetland during Thursday evening. Elsewhere, again, the cloud tended to break up a little
02:28
bit more as we head through Thursday night. But behind me, you'll notice that swirl. That
02:32
is the area of low pressure that's going to move in as we go through towards the weekend.
02:38
There's a threat of a bit of rain across the southeast from this weather front on Friday.
02:41
But many places looking brighter and drier on Friday. However, this low will bring bands
02:46
of showers back across the country and some breezy conditions returning again to the west
02:52
as we go through the weekend.
