00:00Hello, welcome to our national weather forecast.

00:03We are expecting extreme heat across the UK

00:06through the early part of next week.

00:07We have issued a red weather warning.

00:10This heat is unprecedented, potentially

00:13causing widespread health and infrastructure issues.

00:16It's all to do with high pressure that's

00:18moving in through the weekend, but then

00:20kind of edging away into the early part of next week.

00:22And as it does so, it allows the heat

00:24to be drawn up from the south.

00:27How high are those temperatures going to get?

00:29Well, easily into the mid to high 30s,

00:31and possibly across parts of eastern England,

00:34we might get up to 40 degrees Celsius.

00:36That would be a record for the UK.

00:39But the heat will be extending further north as well.

00:42So we have warnings in place, that red warning

00:44I mentioned, across a good part of England,

00:47certainly including many of the major populated areas,

00:50but also the amber warning that was been issued a few days ago.

00:54And we now have an extension into parts

00:56of Wales and southern Scotland in these areas

00:59temperatures are going to be extreme.

01:01As I said, potentially causing disruption, power issues,

01:05along with those health concerns.

01:07There's a lot of advice on the Met Office website

01:10and the NHS website about how to try and stay cool

01:13during these very hot times.

01:16During Friday evening, it's far from hot actually,

01:19a pretty cool night to come.

01:20One or two showers across the northeast of England.

01:22They're fading away, a bit of patchy rain

01:25just trickling back into the far northwest.

01:27But for most, a dry night, a clear night,

01:29certainly compared to earlier in the week,

01:31pretty cool night, single figures in some rural areas.

01:35As we go through Saturday, well, for most,

01:37it's just a fine summer's day.

01:39Yes, we'll start off with cloud and rain

01:40across Caithness, Sutherland and Orkney,

01:42that'll spread up towards Shetland.

01:44One or two showers across the Highlands

01:45and the Western Isles.

01:46But for most places, it's a dry day with plenty of sunshine.

01:50It will cloud over come the afternoon for Northern Ireland,

01:53with a bit of rain trickling in here.

01:55Temperatures, well, a little bit above average,

01:57pleasantly warm, I suppose you'd generally describe it

02:00with temperatures into the low 20s further north,

02:03whereas mid to maybe high 20s further south.

02:06But those temperatures are going to rise.

02:09We'll see a bit more of that rain

02:10spilling into Scotland and Northern Ireland

02:12on Saturday evening.

02:13But for most of England and Wales,

02:14a balmy summer's evening to come.

02:17Overnight, that rain will maybe push away

02:19from Northern Ireland, but we'll keep some outbreaks

02:21going across parts of Scotland.

02:23Again, for England and Wales, it's dry,

02:25but it is getting warmer,

02:27and it's not just those daytime temperatures

02:29we're concerned about.

02:30The nighttime temperatures will be ticking up

02:33over the coming nights also.

02:34And again, that creates health problems

02:37because the body just doesn't have that time to recover.

02:40Sunday starts dull and damp across a good part of Scotland,

02:42but the rain soon pulls away,

02:44brightening up through the central belt

02:45and across the south.

02:46Sunny spells for Northern Ireland,

02:48plenty more sunshine, strong sunshine

02:51for England and Wales.

02:52UV levels will be high this weekend

02:54and temperatures will be getting higher Sunday.

02:57We're back up over 30 degrees Celsius,

03:00Northern Ireland, southern Scotland,

03:01back into the mid-20s and continuing to rise

03:05as we go through the early part of next week.

03:08That's when we're concerned about the extreme heat.

03:10Temperatures we've never seen before across the UK

03:13with 40 Celsius possible, particularly on Tuesday.

03:27As I said, these are unprecedented times

03:30with these temperatures,

03:31so it could have potentially very serious issues.
