Welcome to your national weather update from the Met Office.
00:03
After the extreme heat came a few thunderstorms rumbling on through Wednesday evening.
00:09
The Met Office do have a yellow warning in place.
00:11
Not everywhere in this yellow warning area is going to see the downpours.
00:14
Many areas won't see them and just stay dry.
00:17
But where the thunderstorms are breaking out and dropping a lot of rain in a short space of time,
00:22
that could cause a few issues.
00:24
Some disruption is possible.
00:26
Those thundery showers will steadily fade as we go through the early hours.
00:30
So most places becoming dry as we head into Thursday.
00:33
A much more comfortable night compared to recent nights.
00:36
Still temperatures holding in the mid-teens across parts of eastern England,
00:39
but generally a fresher start to Thursday.
00:42
Fairly cloudy start still.
00:44
Maybe one or two of those showers across parts of the east at first.
00:47
And we'll see maybe a few more breaking out through the day.
00:50
Certainly across parts of northwest England, a chance of some showers by the afternoon.
00:54
But not as intense as the downpours that we've seen through Wednesday afternoon.
00:59
And the vast majority will just stay dry.
01:01
Yes, fairly cloudy skies.
01:02
We should see some brightness breaking through.
01:04
Sunny spells for Wales, southwest England and across the north and the west of Scotland,
01:09
along with Northern Ireland.
01:10
In the sunny spells, feeling quite pleasant.
01:12
Temperatures very close to average.
01:14
High teens, low 20s across the north, maybe mid 20s further south.
01:18
But certainly an awful lot cooler than at the start of the week.
01:22
And that will lead into a reasonably cool night on Thursday night and into Friday.
01:26
Just maybe a few more showers through the evening across northwest England.
01:29
And we'll see a few more developing, I suspect, as we head into Friday.
01:33
Friday is a day for watching more showers pushing steadily northwards.
01:38
Parts of north Wales, northwest England, southern Scotland.
01:41
And there is the threat of some heavy thundery showers drifting up from the south
01:47
as we go through Friday afternoon.
01:49
Hit and miss affairs again, but potentially dropping a lot of rain.
01:53
Some quite intense downpours and thunderstorms are possible on Friday.
01:57
We'll foam upon the details on that over the next 12 to 24 hours.
02:01
It will be ticking up temperature wise across the south as well, back into the mid 20s more widely.
02:07
But with a lot of cloud further north again, we're mostly only into the high teens again.
02:13
As we head into Friday night, still a few of those heavy showers,
02:16
the potential for some thunderstorms across the south.
02:18
High pressure is trying to build in.
02:21
But the main change comes as we go through the second half of the weekend
02:25
with the Atlantic and low pressure systems, weather fronts and tighter isobars
02:30
having more of an influence, bringing cooler, fresher and wetter weather
02:35
to at least the north and the west of the UK.
02:38
But high pressure holding on further south.
02:40
And that will allow us to see the temperatures going back up across parts of the south on Sunday.
02:46
Quite a contrast on Sunday between some very warm conditions across the southeast
02:50
and wetter and cooler conditions across the northwest.
02:53
There's more on that in our 10 day trend forecast.
02:56
You can catch that on Facebook and on YouTube.
