Red weather warnings are rare, but we now have a red extreme heat warning in place for the early parts of next week.
00:08
Amber weather warnings have also been extended.
00:11
What's going on?
00:12
High pressure is moving in.
00:13
For most, it'll bring a sunny weekend.
00:15
But as it shifts to the east, we're going to draw up even hotter air into the early part of next week,
00:21
and particularly Monday and Tuesday,
00:23
as these temperatures continuing to climb to dangerous, potentially unprecedented levels.
00:29
There is a chance that parts of eastern England could see temperatures of 40 Celsius on Tuesday.
00:35
Back to Friday afternoon.
00:37
It's an awful lot cooler with some showers, actually, across northern England, parts of eastern Scotland.
00:41
They are tending to drift away, tending drier across the northwest and a little brighter.
00:45
A bit more cloud compared to yesterday across the south,
00:48
but some lengthy spells of sunshine for southern England and south Wales.
00:51
We'll see temperatures in the mid-20s here.
00:54
Further north, though, actually a touch below average,
00:56
feeling quite cool with the showers across eastern Scotland and a fairly brisk breeze in the far northeast.
01:02
Those showers, though, should fade through the evening.
01:05
For many, it's a fine Friday evening and a fine, reasonably comfortable night, actually.
01:10
Temperatures, in fact, in some spots may dip down to single figures, low teens across the south,
01:16
but certainly a lot cooler and fresher than it was earlier in the week
01:19
and a lot cooler than it will be in the nights to come.
01:23
Saturday's details, dry and sunny, sums it up for England, Wales, southern Scotland, northern Ireland.
01:28
Northern Scotland, though, will see cloud and some rain spreading its way across the northern isles.
01:32
A few showers for the highlands and the western isles
01:35
and maybe a bit of rain late in the day getting into the north coast of northern Ireland.
01:39
But certainly for most, as I said, plenty of sunshine, strong sunshine as well.
01:43
UV levels are going to be high or very high and temperatures will be ticking up.
01:48
Nothing extraordinary at this stage.
01:50
Generally just a pleasant summer's day, low to mid-20s, maybe high 20s across parts of the south.
01:56
However, temperatures are going to be rising further over the next few days.
02:01
As we go through Saturday night, a balmy summer's evening for England and Wales,
02:05
we will see more clouds spilling into Scotland with a bit more rain just pushing in, particularly to the west.
02:10
And that will still be around perhaps for a time on Sunday morning before tending to drift away
02:15
and the vast majority looking fine and sunny but turning hotter on Sunday.
02:19
But the extreme heat really arrives Monday and Tuesday.
02:22
As I said at the start, the potential for those temperatures to get up to 40 Celsius on Tuesday afternoon.
02:28
Don't get too hung up on the numbers because actually it's all just about the heat building by day and by night
02:33
with serious consequences likely.
02:36
We don't issue red warnings lightly.
02:38
And as I said, the amber warning has also been extended.
02:41
Keep up to date with the forecasts and keep up to date with the advice
02:45
on how to stay cool during these extreme times.
02:49
Best way to do that, visit the Met Office website.
02:51
Of course, the very latest will be across social media.
